Jan. Bingo Calls - Philo Theme

IMHO Bingo players pay for their cards and we should be willing to help defray the cost of the prizes. If we want to allow all subscribers to participate, their lack of ability to pay should not be a deciding factor and should not be mentioned on the forum. I feel that we gardeners are by far, a very generous and fair bunch. If it turns out that some participants are not as fair and generous , and these games are their method of taking advantage of that generosity, the games can be stopped. My two cent's worth. Lou

Here is the new thread

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/688286/

I will be checking on this one as well for comments on the next game! Post your interest quick, as soon as we figure out prizes, I'll be able to figure out if it's best to really limit the # of participants. We still need someone to handle prizes (I just don't think I have the time to remember to send them out)

I guess games I feel should be open to everyone !
PLus the Sponcor/Host and Card Holders never play this would not be fair. ~
It is Av /gesneirda forums 10 month with Bingo game. I did sponcor June and Ocotber , June giving six prizes and October there with , we did have 7 prizes that month from donaters. All the other games up to Decmeber were Sponcored by one person and they donated the gifts.
The gifts come from people hearts.
Each game has been opened to everyone , wether you grow an African violet/ Gesneirad or not, lot's of people come to play that never hardly ever came to the forum before , some come back , some don't but thats OK. I have been playing Bingo on other Garden groups for years many people join just to play.
But to require a FEE to play . This is just a fun game on a fun garden group to enjoy each others time. Learn about new plants, enjoy the pictures help bring in new friends. Make new friend but keep the old ones some are silver the other are gold !
When Bingo first started as I have been playing for years I started it on Dg's in Av forum in June.2006 I did host the first game and donated 6 prizes each person got two large priority boxes taped together with plants and leaves, plus 25 4 inch azeal pots and av book inside them :)) It was supose to be one winner but I could not say no.We have had different sponcors each month sense :))
Sharan Dmailed me last month or so and asked if I would mind if HousePlants had a Bingo. As she felt it was my idea. Of course I said yes !
See the Bingo games were always sponcored by people with names plants. They would list 35 named plants they owned and donate 15 sets of leaves, cuttings, or babies to the Winner !
Other group I've played with past 4,5 years we would sign up a year in advance.
In October I sponcoered another game . I donated the first gift $25.00 gift cert. ( as I am disabled bed bound 99 percent of time and don't grow anymore)
I also donated box of Gesnerida and Begonia plants.
And a box of Suplies worth over $50.00
But many others donated gift prizes and we had SEVEN super Winners. !
The next month Jill sponcored going back to original way using plants she had and donated all the gift prizes herself !
The Host/sponcor and card holders NEVER play.
The games have always been open to everyone ! From every forum every paid member :))
Make new friend keep the old one is silver the other is gold.
When I sponcor I expect to give the Gift Bingo prize.
If others want to donate they can but I never want to make people feel they need to in order to play, nor do I ever want people to feel they have to sponcor ever in order to play :))
It's the fun and joy of the game sharing info about the plants being posted and more !
Hope you don't take this wrong I just don't like anyone to feel left out .
thanks, Charging money to play these games will take the whole meaning of them away :((

My understanding is that its not actually a $7.00 fee to play the game but simply a $7.00 offering(donation) given by those who are able to put it toward prizes correct?
.kwz7NC, So does the $7.00 bingo prize fund money get sent to whomever offers to be the prize distributor and then it is their responsibility to award the prizes to the winners? I would be happy to hold the cards for this game if Moretz decides not to.If Moretz wants to be the cardholder that is fine too.Just thought I would offer so she can play this game. I wouldn't mind holding cards.I also will gladly send extra funds for prizes if need be to whomever wants to be the prize distributor.

I would hope people would not be expected to pay to play ?
Plus the gifts donated is a gift , gifts from the heart, can be a plant from your home, A good used garden book !!, Wind chime, Someone donated a garden hanging decor for one of the prizes in October it was so pretty ! , box of garden suplies, Some cuttings from your plants ! there does not have to be gift cards. We started having them when it was too cold to ship.
But Bingo is just it's name it's It's a growing game. Growing friendships, growing Daves gardens , growing and sharing and learning about new plants, sharing pictures of the plants your growing. Making new friends , having new friend come to the forums that might never have and they will see how wonderful fun it is to grow houseplants they may have never knw about !!! It's endless of fun growing game just the name is Bingo !

I've probably been unclear. The first time I played bingo was in this month's game.

I am aware that the caller didn't play, but didn't know about the card holder, thanks for letting me know that. I was intending on putting up a prize, I was hoping to find someone else willing to distribute Prize or prizes to the winners because the end of the month gets busy for me workwise, ie. I'll gladly send someone else a money order now than later.

The idea of people chipping in on bingo was one that came about after the jan. game, and it seemed like several people thought it was a good idea. I am definately not trying to charge people into a game and I didn't mean to come across that way. I have reread my post on the feb. thread, and it did sound as if it was mandatory to pay, and I edited that. I apologize.

Hi guys- don't have time to read all these messages in details, but it sounds like there's a discussion about whether people should pay to play. My vote is against it. I'd be happy to donate towards the next prize, whether by monetary means or providing a plant once the weather warms up. But paying to play...sounds a lot like gambling to me. That's against some people's religions/standards/personal beliefs, etc. So you'd automatically be excluding people. I'd personally refuse to play if there was a fee involved. Even if it was just called a mandatory "donation." Sounds like a fancy word for a fee. But I'd be happy to donate every so often.

(Zone 1)

I agree cjolene. I have been watching this thread before I decide whether I want to play or not. Some people can't afford to donate even $5.00 .... everyone's circumstances are different and as you said, charging a fee is like gambling and many will be against that for moral/religious reasons. I am all for donating towards a price or donating a plant as a prize, but something just doesn't "feel" right to me with a mandantory fee being charged to play.

So ..... I will keep watching to see what is decided.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I agree with you completely too CJ and Lin, I am sure ( well anyway I am hoping) thats not what kwz7 meant.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I do not want to make people to pay a fee to play, please see the Feb. game forum and above post. If someone wants to donate a prize, that would be nice. I certainly don't want people tothink that is the caase and opt out. I am sorry for the confusion.

So get on over to the the Feb. thread and sign up if you want to play!

I agree Bingo is a game gardners have been playing for years and a fee never charged nor anyone exver expected tp donate a gift, sponcor a game or hold cards.
All forums are for ALL 200 hundred thousand plus Dg's paid members and all are well come to play each and ever month with no payment required .
This gardening game is not about the prizes that are gifts shared by the heart of people when they can.
They can be a good old gardening book, cuttings of some of your favorite plants, a house plant , some gardening pots, a journal with pen and stickers , There does not need to be more than one gift .
It's a gardening fun game to have fun together, chat, learn about new plants maybe one you never grew before , seeing pictures of pretty plants, just friends spending time together enjoying a fun game !
Everyone is Well come to play each and every month and you are never exspected to pay any money, donate a gift , nor spocor/host a game or hold cards. This is up to the person if they want to.
I agree with all above . Thank you,
Hope a zillion people join in the fun ! And everyone Dg friend is always wellcome to play the Av/gesneriad forum games too ! We are all " One" Dg memeber Friends !

****THERE IS NO FEE TO PLAY BINGO NOR IS PARTICIPATION LIMITED IN ANY WAY****

I apologize for any confusion I created by posting anything contrary. I have edited those posts and don't want others not to join the game because they beleive they are required to give a prize or a fee. If I have totally polluted the game at this point, I can step aside and allow someone else to host. I was not trying to confuse anyone or change the game. I apologize, and want the fun to continue.

Livermore, KY(Zone 6a)

You are fine, Ok everyone, lets move past the suggestion of a fee to play and just play. If anyone wants to offer a prize, please dmail host. I have offered to be the prize holder if she wants.

Lets just have a good time. Ok, all. Be sure to send in your card, as the game starts next week.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

My apologies if my suggestion of all participants donating toward the prizes offended and/or upset anyone...certainly that was far from my intention. My thoughts were that it would be helpful so that everyone shared the monetary aspect of it. Again...I'm sorry.
Sharon - our posts crossed...didn't mean to go on with this.
