Thanks fleursdetouquet, I think so too. he's been a regular and I have grown quite fond of him.

I love the Rose Breasted Grosbeak (male and female)! We only seem to see them during the migrating times of the year stopping for sunflower seeds. Beautiful!

Thanks for sharing your photo Pixie.

Neat pictures everyone!! I love your view of all your feeders Donna! I bet the raccoons and ground feeding birds find a lot at the bottom of all of those, no need to climb up. I have problem keeping my two or three filled, guess I need to put more out then they would last all week.....maybe?
Well work calls, you all have a great day!

Marlton, NJ

Pixie, I love the variety of birds you have! Great pics!

Hebron, KY

Meant to add........

The Grosbeaks only stop a very brief time to eat and run when they stop over. We may only see them for a few minutes (or longer if we're lucky) and only for one day. We are so thrilled when they grace us with their presence!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

pelletory, thanks but I must confess.....most of them were taken through the window. It was nasty out(sleet/snow/freezing rain) so I cheated and took them through the window! With the exception of the BO and RBGB.

Marlton, NJ

Thats okay Pixie, you won't catch me sitting outdoors in the cold weather either.

Pixie,

That's your secret! ;-))

I'll have to try to do that. Great shots!

Here's a Tufted Titmouse I got in October in the evening when it was chilly and dreary.

Here's one that looks like the Tufted Titmouse is taking off with a sunflower seed in his/her beak. I kept snapping photos even though I was chilly. LOL

no picture, but my cats love the feeder right outside the window. this placement also gets it ten feet off the ground and inaccessible to squirrels. I hang it from string which I shut into the top of the window to hold it. Makes the sill dirty but the cats and birds and me are the only ones who will look at it.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I had to quit using sunflower seed in the feeders. I put some wildbird seed on the ground near shrubs and back towards the Dam. We put out whole and cracked corn in several places on the backside of the pond and near the back of the Dam. My suet was then the main attraction for the coons lol. Had to move those feeders to where they couldn't get to them. I use sunflower chips in my platform feeders but just a couple of tablespoons in each everyday

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

All these posts are so inspiring! So much so that I actually washed my windows today lol! It does make a big difference in the pictures. Now I have to move the feeders closer to the living room windows. Right now they are about 15 feet away.

Also, I found my Madeline feeder!! Peletory asked me about it earlier in the thread. It was a Christmas present from my sister 2 years ago. I lost it in a storm, found it and put it in the garage since it was pretty beat up. Then I MEANLY accused my DH of throwing it away during one of his "clean out the garage" binges. Well, I found it today - YAY!! I will have to apologize when he gets home. :-)

You guys are really killing me with all these Tufted T's. I've only seen them in my yard twice but I know their in my area.

Susan, Glad to see you found the feeder!

I love those tuffed titmice. First saw them living in VA. Dont have the nuthatches down here, but the titmice are prevalant. Sure enjoy them.

Sally,
Love the feeder outside of the window, 10 foot off the ground! Hope you don't open the window and the cats fall out the screen trying to catch a bird!! LOL!

I am envious of your Madeline feeder, it is such a novelty! Glad you found it and DH is out of the dog house!

Cute little sparrow, but there are so many with the striped crown that it would take more investigation to id it. You might start a thread for sparrow ids. A lot of people would like to know which ones they have, I am sure.

Marlton, NJ

Susan, not easy to tell from the back but could it have been a White Throated Sparrow?

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

Yes it could. It's not a very good photo so I'm not expecting an id. A sparrow thread is a good idea Sheila because I do tend to get them mixed up! I'll try to get some better picture.

I love all the unique and beautifully placed feeders that have been pictured on this thread! So many different kinds that I am totally amazed! I've got feeder-envy! LOL

I was at HD tonight and found a bird feeder that was clearanced and bought it. I like it because of it's looks and I want to place it on the top of a 4" X 4" post. I just thought it would look perfect there! This is a photo of it. I pondered whether to get it or not because the design is not very practical or easy to clean if I permanently mount it. So therein lies the dilemma. (I can still return it!) I am trying to figure out how to securely attach it to the post, yet make it easy to remove for cleaning and filling.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could possilbly do that? (It was made to be hung not mounted.) I was thinking there might be some sort of flip-lock latch that I could mount to the bottom of the flat feeder and then to the post. Which would allow me to just unlatch it to remove it. My dh and I have been pondering how we could possibly come up with a way to do that.

I need some suggestions if anyone has any!

Why not just mount a square extension from 1x3" wood on the bottom of the feeder? That way you could removed it for cleaning. Birds wouldn't be able to remove it; and I doubt that a squirrel climbing on it would effect it.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know about attaching that one to a pole, I usually hang them from a strong tree branch. So I'm probably no help at all, lol. I had 3 kinda like that, and a hanging tray out front last year. I don't even know what I will do in Spring yet..
I like that feeder though.. with the short perch it can only attract smaller birds, and the Doves will generally eat the crumbs the smaller birds throw on the ground.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sheila - I'm not sure what you mean when you say mounting a 1X3" wood extension to the bottom of the feeder? How would that make it removable? Please explain, as I am interested to know!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, and I don't worry about the Squirrels.. We only have a couple families of them here, and they never bother me at all. I put nuts out for them they eat, tho one can't blame them for wanting to eat the already shelled Sunflower seeds and cracked Corn..

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Deb - I have the other feeder which I am going to "hang" from the end of a 12" long bracket that will also be mounted to the same post on one side. The other bird feeder is this one:
http://www.bestnest.com/bestnest/RTProduct.asp?SKU=HF-7511

And I figured I'd hang a suet feeder on the opposite side of the post.

Or is that too many feeders on one post/pole?

I'm clueless, gang! :-}

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, see if this sketch makes any sense to you or the DH. You would need a thin peice of plywood for the base and the 1 x 3" board to cut the square that would slide over the top of your 4 x 4" post.

Looks like a dandy one Sheila! Pretty smart design..

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Best I can do after working all day and trying to watch TV too! LOL!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sheila - So this extension piece with the bird feeder attached to it would just slide down over top of the 4" X 4" post? If so, do you think it would hold up in gusty winds if a storm approaches and I am not home to take it down?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't think it's going anywhere if it is nailed securely. to the post via the base..

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Deb - Unfortunately, my dilemma is that I do NOT want to permanently nail the feeder to the post. I need to be able to remove it to clean and fill the feeder. Which is why I think Sheila drew up the very interesting extension piece for the feeder. The more I am thinking about what Sheila came up with, the more I think it would work. Especially if I made the extension part long enough to keep it from blowing over and off the post.

Thanks, Sheila! I think you've got a great idea there! Thanks for taking the time to draw it up for me. I was clueless until I saw your drawing. Great suggestion!

You're welcome Becky. I am not sure how high the wind would need to get to take it off the pole. If that was a concern, you could drill a hole through the sleeve, into the post, and slip a large nail in it. You could glue the nail into a small knob to grab onto it easy.
That is all of my brain power tonight. Need sleep, nite all!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks, Sheila! You are pretty resourceful ..... even when you are tired and sleepy! :-) :-) :-)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great ideas Sheila... A dowel or nail pin will secure it on the post just fine..

I have just noticed a kind of wee greenish birdie with a yellow bum, that doesn't eat the feed, but likes the new insect suet I put out. It hangs out in the back corner looking for bugs.. It's only about 4" long. Maybe a finch, but I am going to let Ben ID it before I post the pic..

I set the tray of mealworms back under that tree in the corner now, instead of with the seed feeding bird feed.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

i 'd say greenish suggests warbler, but I'm no expert
