Suggestion regarding Dmail

I'd still like to be able to delete.

Well, it's not really "mail" in the true sense of the word.

Mail is something you send to someone else, and they can do with it as they please (read it, trash it, share it, shred it, etc.) If the sender wants to keep a copy of the correspondence, they need to make a copy before sending it.

Likewise "email" is an electronic message that the recipient can save, print, delete and/or reply to without affecting the sender (typically your system stores a copy of all sent emails, which the sender can keep, print, re-send, forward, or delete at their discretion.

But "dmail" is really just a discussion thread. Unlike our public discussion forums, a dmail is private, between two individuals. No one else can access your dmail or reply to it except the sender and receiver. But if one of them could delete it, both would permanently lose their ability to access the message. That's why you can't delete it ;o)

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. I was hoping our resident guru would have a solution, but I see it's just not possible to do.

Thank you Terry! I finally understand why old mail can't be deleted!

I agree that there's a privacy issue and no desperate need to know if somebody has read an email I've sent them...

However... :-)

There are times when I'm trying to get in touch with somebody, haven't seen them around the usual forums lately, checked and saw that they haven't started any new threads, etc.... but I really have no way of knowing if they're still "around" DG, if something has happened, or if they've just gone offline. This has practical implications, especially if I've got a partly completed trade... recently, I had a box ready to go out but hadn't heard from the person in over a month and couldn't verify that they'd be home to receive plants that week... I ended up not sending the box, and I followed up with snail mail, but I still haven't heard anything from them.

In addition to being able to see what threads a person has started, is there any way to click on a link to their most recent post, or even to click for information such as the time of their most recent post, just to see if they're currently active at DG?
