ready to start growing?

Southern Mountains, GA(Zone 6b)

Now that Christmas has past, how many are already chomping at the bit to get started on the garden? I find I have less patience to stay indoors and let winter pass with indoor activities. I will bring my seed starting light setup into the kitchen and get some seedlings going. I hope we have an early spring.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I already have 40 hibiscus seedlings just getting their true leaves on. 15 for a neighbor, 10 for me and the rest for trading. Around the middle of January I start really getting busy starting seeds. I've just started going over my seed catalogue to see what I want to grow this year and try to decide what people might want for trades. I'm also going to take the plunge and try some clematis.

Love my greenhouse .. makes spring come earlier for me!

I mailed in my first seed order, tomatoes, peppers, and carrots. I also promiced myself I'd do a better job keeping my journal up to date this comming year.

I'm afraid if I start too early we'll get an ice storm!!! But it won't be long -- all those sweet little seeds are calling my name...

I'm thinking of starting a flat or two of carnations and pansies just to have something green coming along. We're definitely in for some winter weather before spring gets here. It's not even January yet, although this afternoon it's sunny and in the mid 60's. Wonderful!

Bolivar, TN(Zone 7a)

I can't believe I have not received ONE seed catalog yet. I feel deprived and left out. Someone told me they had received one already. I am more than ready for spring and we have not had any really bad weather yet (except for a few days when it was in the low 30's daytime and teens at night. Still have a lot of work to do in flower beds. Tomorrow is supposed to be in 60's and we have to deliver honey to a friend of ours. Made some bluebird houses and we will be putting them up the wk.end. Have already seen bluebirds and the gold finches are getting their color back. Can spring be far behind? Happy New Year to all. Oh Pansies what a great idea. I haven't gotten my plant table up and running yet but I will soon. I've done very little plant propagation but I can't wait to get started. Any hints on pansies?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Roseone, do the pansies for sure. They will shake off frosts and freezes and keep blooming. I always keep some just to keep my spirits up... : )) Happy New Year to all!

LC2s ~ Go online and order seed catalogues! Get them started comin'! I've gotten the common ones Jungs and Burpees this past week. Don't wait.... It is what gets us thru the winter! pod

HollyAnne, haven't ever grown pansies before but I will read directions on the seed packet as well as some online reading. Can't be that hard. I already have store bought pansies planted out since September and they are hunkered down but still putting out a few blooms, one of the many benefits of living in the south. :-)

Bulbhound, Looks really good! That's exactly what I spent my weekend doing. In my own smaller way that is. I got the guys moving that’s DH & DS. Ric started working on a very old light table a friend built years ago. He got it cleaned and started painting it. It will need new lights and rewired, too. He got a great start. They cleaned a bunch of old stuff out of the attic and moved some of my totes that were stored in the extra room up in the attic. I cleaned and rearranged and then they brought the metal frame in and set it up. I have plenty of room to move around it. I guess we’ll pick up the lights and electrical wire next week and I should be ready for planting. Ric suggested I pick up a garden sprayer to use to water, that way I can mist it as fine as I want. I thought it was a pretty good idea do any of you water with a garden sprayer?

I have ordered/purchased all my seeds/plants/tubers for the upcoming season--4 kinds of cukes, 4 kinds of tomatoes, pole beans, eggplant, 2 kinds of lettuce, peppers, datura, coleus, dahlias, geraniums, sweet peas, and black-eyed susan vine. Of course, I still have many seeds from last year. I'm going to start pansies today. That's probably all I can start this early in zone 5. I'm really excited for this year's garden. I just hope the weather cooperates more than it did last year! Tamara
