ooops..you are right Pixie!

My cats understood some basic commands, like 'no' [haha], time for bed, go get your toy...no special talents except for Midnite's speed spider plant eating, and watching things fall to the floor as they gently push it off the table!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Anita,
My cat eats my spider plant too! I ask the vet about it..said something about him being addicted to it now as there is some type of hallucinagenic (sp?) in it. I know that if he eats to much he grows really courageous and attacks the dogs on a dead run. Pounce's on their heads, runs down their backs and jumps off at the tail. He's so fast they don't know what hits them!

Ok gang, I'm officially out of control on the baking. yeah, yeah, I know the solution...send the cookies to you guys...you wish LOL it's been so long since I really felt good enough to bake and I've really been enjoying it.

the ones at the bottom center are my MIL's 'brown cookies'. I haven't glazed them yet...later today. but they are amazing. that's one of the recipes I posted. a mix of chocolate and spices and they melt in your mouth. I leave out the nuts because I am highly allergic and they are still wonderful.

what fun! my 17 yo got in a big box not too long ago. they never really grow up, do they? now all they need is some snow :0) Bet Tarsha is disappointed about the lack of 'white stuff' too.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes Gram she is....but she was cold! She said she's never been this happy to be cold. LOL She also had Maine seafood last night so she's very happy indeed!

I got some really nice winter? reading.
Lilies by Pamela McGeorge
The daylily by John P Peat and Ted Petit
National Audubon Society : Field Guide to Birds Eastern Region
Edited: Also got : The Complete Book of Bulbs & Bulb Gardening by Kathy Brown
and a $50.00 gift Certificate to Bluestone Perennials and a $50.00 GC to lady on ebay I buy daylilies from. This is to cure my winter dull-drums.
I also got Ice Skates!!!!! I can't wait to skate again. I do realize this was a concoction that my DH and DBIL thought up so that I would be the one to teach my DSIL how to skate. Never been on a pair of skates in her life and at the age of 45 wants to learn. I'm making her sign a waiver that she won't hold me responsible if anything should happen! LOL

Pixie, if you want to make a very fast sled out of those boxes, coat one side with duct tape. They don't last too long but the memories and laughs, will.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thats a good idea Andy...but I'll pass, not much padding on these old bones! Kids would love it...if we ever get any snow. It's 47 here today, not feeling much like Christmas weather wise, but the spirit's here!
DD got me this to go w/the rest of my fairies, she's beautiful when she's plugged in.

gorgeous girls... and uncle Josh is really a handsome young man!!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks Kassia, did you and your family have a good Christmas? I bet the boys were excited!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pixie, You have a beautiful family!

Belated Merry Christmas to all!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi Pixie, well we had a mixed feeling kind of xtmas.......
... my mom, sister and Victor are still in Brazil... Victor's dad is a #@$% (not really sure is a bad word... since I don't really say bad words this is the close I can do...) he was enough of a pill to create problems for them... not that he is part of Victor's life at all... he has seen Victor only 2X in 3 years... so they are still waiting for the judge to grant my sister permission to come... and to make things worse, my grandmother just died a week ago... (I am so glad she is no longer suffering... she is probably telling God that He needs more dahlias in heaven...lol...)

so Xtmas was not the best, but at least some of my friends did all they could to make it a nice day for me... even if my entire family was not together, thank God for good friends that comes to the rescue! I had good laughs and had a chance to enjoy life and give thanks for what I have... we are going to let the xtmas tree up until my mom gets here, hopefully by the end of January and we are going to have our family xtmas them... hopefully!!!!

my nephew Alec loved the tent and the sleeping bag! such a cute boy!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Kassia, I'm so sorry for your loss and troubles, just know things WILL get better!
I'm glad Alec liked his tent and sleeping bag. You two can make plans for the summer about where to pitch that tent so you get the best views of the stars!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Pixie, I believe things will change... I believe that for everything there is a purpuse... I just I learn the lessons I need and can be a better person after that!!!! one thing I realize is that God always opens a door... sometimes is at very unusual places! like when I looked at the 4 rose cuttings I planted and they all have little sprouts... life's little miracles... spring will come... so hope is on it's way!

I doubt that my sister will ever let me sleep with Alec outside... the poor kid must taste good because the mosquitos just bite him with no mercy! and he is white as a ghost! I am planning to get tons of citronella and see if that helps... I love taking him out to see the moon ... that's what I love about winter... no bugs... no mosquitos at least!!!!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, nobody's been musing...I've just been looking thru my seed box to start my wintersowing. funny how just looking at the seeds makes me happy. I can picture the plants, see the little seedlings in my head. I love to sprout seeds...new beginnings and all that, I guess. Now my biggest challenge is not to go overboard and wind up with 1,000 plants when I can only plant 20. Although I told folks over at the wintersowing forum, giving away free plants is a great way to make friends :0)

My DDIL had a elderly neighbor who used to divide his perennials every year and put the extras out at the end of his driveway all labelled, free for the taking. the whole neighborhood looked forward to it. He's either died or moved away, but they'll remember him.

Andy, are you out there? this is the only place we see you anymore. I miss you. Happy New Year!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Hey Jan, I've been doing the same thing with my seeds. I usually start my wintersowing around now too. I also have to update my database with some of the new seeds I'd purchased.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Anita, what do you use to label your containers? That was one thing everybody said they had trouble with was the labels fading. I have one of those nasty smelling Paper Mate permanent markers. I wrote on a piece of duct tape and tried to wash it off with soapy water and it wouldn't budge, so I guess that should work.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi Gram, Yes I'm still here. I've been spending time learning how to use PaintShop. There are bumps on the learning curve, but it's going OK. I've been over in Photos a lot, too.
There hasn't been much Musing on my end lately, Winter is not my favorite season.
I'll start Page 6 later today.

Gram & Anita, I too took out some seeds, and got a package from Parks last week that I really didn't get a chance to look at. It seems I made a mistake when ordering....I wanted some Candy Lily's so I ordered 3. Well it was 3 packs of seeds, 20 seeds in each pack!!!! Here.s what they look like: http://www.parkseed.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10101&langId=-1&SearchText=1540&mainPage=textsearchresults&RequestType=NewRequest&go.x=13&go.y=9
I also ordered Pruneilla only one pack of seeds. http://www.parkseed.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10101&langId=-1&SearchText=1701&mainPage=textsearchresults&RequestType=NewRequest&go.x=11&go.y=8
Anybody want some Candy Lily seeds???? If the links don't work, on the home page it says search w/a little box...put in 1701 for the Pruneilla and 1540 for the Candy Lily.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh yeah....I also bought 48506, 7013,and 3741 (like thats a suprise!) They ship in spring so I'll have something else to look forward to.
The Candy Lilies bloom late summer, that was one of the reason I bought them, but i don't need 60 of them!
3741 Penstemon Espirit Mix blooms late summer into fall and so does the Pruneilla, I am hoping to get more color out of late summer - early fall.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey - it's a Jan~a~gram debut ;)

Celeste - I got some of the candy lily from Anita so I'll pass.

I have been looking over the catalogs as they come, and I do take in mind that I actually have to have room to plant them all. I give away a lot of plants, but they do take room until then.

Musings here is that although it has been fairly mild here I am a little tired of the 2 weeks of clouds.

Seed catalogs are coming in from all over! Thompson & Morgan are offering $10 off - no minimum! It would be rude not to use it, wouldn't it? (You still have to pay handling and shipping though. ) They have a BLACK hyacinth in their on-line catalog -- a mere $20 per bulb! (Won't be buying that one!) I try to buy something from every catalog so that the company will keep sending the catalogs. I end up with an awful tangle of seeds that way. I'm with grampapa - seeds are dreams. Welcome to my nightmare.
Little sprouts are coming up in my cold frame - they seem to be growing in slo-mo - guess it will take until spring to get any radishes at this rate. Maybe I've already winter sowed and don't know it.
