This is yet another continuation, here is where we left off. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/667957/
As I pondered about a pic for this thread, I looked down and saw this.
Post away, my friends.

Sarah looks so content to be relaxing in the warmth of the sun. And if she can manage to keep her eyes open, she can stay current with the goings-on in the neighborhood. A very nice picture, Andy.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Makes me remember climbing into bed on a weekend afternoon with my napping cats. Their black coats were so warm and they would let me snuggle right in for a short nap. I miss them.

By the way Grams - congrats on selling your picture. I bet it feels real good to be published.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Andy, what a nice way to start a new thread. I think that's the best picture of Sarah you've posted yet...at least it's my favorite. I agree with Anita. I want to lie down next to her and rest my head on her warm fur. think she would mind?

Anita, thanks. It does feel good, although I wish it had been for a better pic. but I'll take what I can get. just think, if I had never joined DG I wouldn't have sold it, so the $15 was a pretty good investment

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Gram, she has very soft fur, like mink.
The skunk smell is all gone now, too.

Here's something I've been working on this last week.

A fella at work approached me about creating a gift for his wife for Christmas. When their adult son was a kid, he and the parents planted a tree. During the October devastating storm we had, the tree was ruined. It had to be cut down. It was a sad time for the mom, because the tree was so memorable. He saved a chunk of it and wondered if I could come up with an idea to surprise her.

He gave me the piece of tree and a photo of his 3 sons from that approximate year. I asked him to think of a title or caption or something I could print as a tribute. He wrote a poem!

I took a picture of mine of a gorgeous tree that I took this Fall, and cropped it and muted the color and made it mosaic. That became the background. Then I had to alter the photo to remove the brothers, and change the background, and sharpen up his face because I had to enlarge it somewhat.

A few days ago I had my son slice off a section of the tree limb and I stained and varnished it. Yesterday I found the perfect picture frame for holding the wood which is about half an inch thick, as well as the picture I created.

This is the result.

I am supremely impressed, Nap.
Mom is going to cry when she gets that.
Well done.

Nancy, that is lovely. that lady is going to cry on Christmas morning. a very sweet thing for her husband to do.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Very nice Nancy! Maybe you should talk to this guy about a collaboration....his poetry, your art work. lol

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks. He was so 'trusting'. Everytime I asked his opinion on something, he just said, "you do whatever you want to do." I can't wait til he sees it tomorrow. Do you think it would be asking just a tad too much to invite myself over for Christmas morning?????

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

ROTFL ..Nancy your to funny! Yup..thats a tad too much.

Northern, NJ(Zone 6b)

nap,
You certainly made a perfect frame choice for the piece. May I ask where you bought it?
Andy,
One of my dogs, Willow, was out enjoying the sun yesterday. Too bad it turned cold today, snow maybe tonight.

What a pretty dog.
We may get our first snow tomorrow morning. Sarah likes snow.
Andy P

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Sure. It came from Michael's. It has slots which maybe you can see, and comes with two pieces of glass. It's actually intended to hold a 'floating' 5x7. You're supposed to put a photo between the panes and slide them into the slots, and they appear to be suspended. The sides remain open, so my piece of wood could fall out if tilted. (But I sort of like the idea that the tree is able to be taken out and handled. If he wants me to, I'll glue it in)

Nice dog, Willow is. Pretty. Nice yard as well.

semp, I like your Willow. it's a nice name for a dog.

Northern, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the compliments on Willow and the yard. She's a Vizsla, no undercoat, so it's coat time for her. My other dog is a shelter rescue mixed breed called Moxie and very camera shy. It is cold today and the plantings look forlorn, no snow though. My dogs like snow too. The photo is of Moxie waiting for the gate to open so she can bolt away from the camera.

I thought Willow might be a Vizsla but couldn't figure out how to spell it, lol
OK, I'm off to trade in this old Laptop. If I'm gone for a while, don't worry ! "I'll be back".
Our first snow gave me one last flower shot.

But it did make things pretty. This is the camp road across the street from my house.

pix, still jealous of your cardinals :0) but what is that white stuff all over the trees?

andy, is that Zebrina still blooming in December? I planted a couple this fall. they were blooming in the box when they arrived, kept blooming while they were sitting around waiting to be planted. I can't wait to see them next year. Good luck with the new laptop!

Semp, Moxie is pretty, too. I like a dog with 'eyebrows' LOL

Fayetteville, PA(Zone 6b)

I still have my "Snow Flurry" camellia blooming.. It should continue up until about Christmas. Then it will be about 2 months until my Lenten Rose hellebores start blooming in Febuary, along with the early Crocuses we have.

We also have some confused plants here.... There is some Jasminum nudiflorium on the campus of the college where I'm studying at in the evenings that's started blooming, and they don't normally start until about Febuary....

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm back, sorta.
Pixie, it looks like you got a bit more than us. It started as rain then turned to snow. A lot went down the drain.
HT, got any pics?

My new laptop works OK but I'm having a hard time setting up the Wi-Fi with security. I got very frustrated and set it up without security just to get going.
None of my pictures for 2006 got transfered. Some programs are missing, other unknown ones are here. I have to go back tomorrow to try to correct the situation. I'm using the old one now.
Yes Gram, it's a Zebrina. they die in Winter but the seeds sprout all over the place.
Here is another shot.

We're getting 'lake effect' snow from the Great Lakes tonight. 2" an hour. It's supposed to move south. we'll wait to see how soon that happens to see how bad we're socked in. it usually stays further south. and when I say south, I mean it goes to see our friend nap (Nancy).

Andy, sorry you're frustrated with the computer. the one thing we've never been able to get set up in the house is the wireless network. so we can still only print from one computer. but the wireless is fine for internet access and that's what I need for work.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I seem to be following you all over the Garden tonight, gram.

Only about 2 inches on the ground right now, but the drive home at 7PM was treacherous. The city streets' traffic was moving at about 20mph, the Kensington Expwy clipped along at only about 35 mph, and the last leg of my travels, the last 3 miles by the airport, it was bumper to bumper doing about 10 mph. It was a solid sheet of ice across all 5 lanes. I was glad to get home safely. Wonder what the morning commute will be like.

By the way, the guy loved the picture. So did everyone who saw it. It was very encouraging to me, to have everyone compliment it. He laughed at my 'tongue-in-cheek' offer to spend Christmas with them! He said the son is coming over for Christmas Eve, so that is when he wants to have her open it.

Nancy

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Nancy, I was telling my DH about it today because I think you are so talented. (not at all surprised your friend loved it) he said they should also include a certificate or something for a new tree that she will plant along with her son in the spring.

I work at home on Mondays. I'm seriously thinking I may just stay home tomorrow too. they do cut me some slack and I take advantage ot it. most days I get more work done from home than I do in the office anyway.

ps you can follow me around any time :-)

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Thank you, gram. I will. (follow you around)

And thanks for the comments. I will make the suggestion about the tree tomorrow!

So my hubby just heard that we can expect 2-4" per hour for the next 6 hours. Oh, and it's started. Right after my last post I looked out the window and almost couldn't see across the street. Snowing hard here right now. Whereabouts is your job located? Stay home, if you can.

Going to sleep now. I will probably get up earlier than usual tomorrow.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

No snow in Bridgeport and I cleaned the garage until I found my snow shovel on Sunday!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Catching up here.

Nancy, That was a great idea beautifully executed!

Semper, great dogs!

Pix, great photos!

Gotta run.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Dave!! See ya!

Snow not a major problem here. It moved south. Only a few additional inches.

Gotta run!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

It looks like it wants to snow here but nothing yet. It sure is cold enough.
I'm off to the PC place.
Gotta run

Sarah in the sun, makes me wish I was a dog sometimes.

Good job Nap! That turned out really neat. He'll be glad he wrote the poem. Makes him involved with it and his wife will really cry over that!

Willow and Moxie are beautiful!

Pixie, the snow missed us completely but we were COLD and WINDY. Bitterly so. But your picture makes me want snow. Camp road looks like a beautiful place to get a walk in for exercise.

Andy, good luck on figuring out your computer. I would be completely lost!

The mixer is sitting on the counter. The butter is softening in the microwave where the cats can't find it. The flour, sugar and other baking essentials are on the counter. I should have been out there this morn baking cookies!I

It looks like it could snow here too. Cloudy and chilly. We had 12* at 4:30 am and it's only 24* now! At least the wind quit.

My efforts of last week.

Thumbnail by billyporter
Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

ROTFL! I didn't realize the mixer and water jug could be seen thru the window. Remind me to clean up the background next time!

Fayetteville, PA(Zone 6b)

I got pics of the Camellia, but not the Jasmine... I'll have to remember to take my camera to the school tomorrow night to take some. I'll post the Camellia pics later tonight. That camellia is one of the hardy National Arboretum cultivars.....

I've been keeping tabs on the weather, and it looks like that snow might actually push over the mountains and into the valley here. If we do get any snow that lays, I'll take some pics of my palms.

Fayetteville, PA(Zone 6b)

Here's a pic of my camellia blooming in this weather, of all things! But this is the time of year it blooms, though....

Thumbnail by Hikaro_Takayama
Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I'd love to have a camellia. I tried about 7 yrs ago and it didn't survive a cold winter. Have they improved the hardiness?
