Here's something I've been working on this last week.

A fella at work approached me about creating a gift for his wife for Christmas. When their adult son was a kid, he and the parents planted a tree. During the October devastating storm we had, the tree was ruined. It had to be cut down. It was a sad time for the mom, because the tree was so memorable. He saved a chunk of it and wondered if I could come up with an idea to surprise her.

He gave me the piece of tree and a photo of his 3 sons from that approximate year. I asked him to think of a title or caption or something I could print as a tribute. He wrote a poem!

I took a picture of mine of a gorgeous tree that I took this Fall, and cropped it and muted the color and made it mosaic. That became the background. Then I had to alter the photo to remove the brothers, and change the background, and sharpen up his face because I had to enlarge it somewhat.

A few days ago I had my son slice off a section of the tree limb and I stained and varnished it. Yesterday I found the perfect picture frame for holding the wood which is about half an inch thick, as well as the picture I created.

This is the result.
