Hi Tracy, sure the more the merrier :o)
Welcome,
Connie
CLOSED: CGs Last MOST WANTED Seed Swap 2006
I am going to hold off editing the first post to add the new members just in case we get some more between now and tomorrow... If you know someone that would like to join let them know I will be closing it tomorrow, Once it's closed... IT'S CLOSED...
Thanks :o)
Tracy you are # 26 :o)
Remember I need all the lists of wants up by Thursday. Once I have all those I will start a new thread relisting them all so it will be easier for all to go thru them....
Then you all can list and tell me which seeds you are sending of the wants to fulfill.
Like this...
Example:
I'm sending :
1. melon - heavenly hami
2. winter squash
3. flowering garlic
4. Cosmos - mixed
5. Basil - “Indian Sweet”
6. Calendula - “Mixed”
7. Nicotiana - “White”
8. Four O'Clocks - "mixed"
etc, I think you get the idea :-}
That means I have 8 packs of seeds to fill the wants and will also include 7 packs of other seeds to make it a total of 15 packs of seeds to send...
Please only post like this on the new thread, so I don't have all the other post to go thru.
edited to say: For got to tell you what the new forum will be called...
CGs LMW Seed Swap 2006_2 listings I will also mark this thread as closed so no one else tries to sign up on it...

My god Connie, you are gonna be a busy girl....................
Have you managed to get all your seeds listed now??????????????????????
roflmbo, no that is only part of them lol
How are you doing? check your IM, I'm on...
Connie
OK, here's my want list:
* Bronze fennel
* Any geranium (esp. hardy perennials or annuals in orange or red shades)
* Any orange Echinacea
* Blue nepeta
* Any fragrant sweet peas
* Cuphea
* Asarina (snapdragon vine) in red or purple shades
* Gaillardia (esp. "Arizona Sun" or "Sundance")
* Datura "Double Golden Queen"
* Any silver or red-leaved ornamental grass
* Hollyhocks (other than Nigra)
* Any unusual salvia
* Zinnias (tall in shades of yellow, orange, or red)
* Green-flowered nicotania
* Cosmos "Cosmic Orange"
Let me join in the cacophony of confusion for those of us new to swaps:
In addition to the garlic cloves, I have a gazillion little self-seeded dill & borage plantlets (if you don't grow borage you REALLY SHOULD). They'll fit in small Ziplocs & should travel well. Would it be OK to include them? Unless I'm breaking some rule, isn't a seedling better than a seed as long as I have them to spare?
seedlings, I don't think would travel well this time of year... And by the time I got everything sorted to each person, I fear your seedlings would die... I think you would be better off starting a thread that you have those for trade, and after all this is called Seed Swap ;-}
But thanks for the offer :o)
Connie
I am sorry I am such a pokey.
Top of my wish list would be:
Dorothy Benedict hosta seed
Other streaked hosta seed
Collinsia (sp) chinese houses
Emilia coccinea
Unusual coleus
Double impatiens
Named daylily crosses (especially spiders)
Trailing petunias
Any agastache besides blue or purple
Interesting heuchera
To add:
Leonotis
Redbud
Bronze fennel
Dierama
Centranthus ruber
Acanthus
I'm sure there are lots more I want I just can't think of them now.
Brenda

Connie
Just a thought..... I like many don't have much of what others are wanting and I keep forgetting other things I want untill I see someone post it. So when you close the swap and we list what we have are we going to be able to say hey I want some of those since we really don't know yet what anyone has??? I plan on sending about 30 packs of seed, some like Lions Tail are unusual and other may want to try them. It is a reall neat very tall annual that can be overwintered in doors like a perennial. Some people were not joining in because they don't have what others are wanting
I imagine many of the people participating aren't going to have anything on anyone's list. (Especially since some are listing hybrids. Many of the named hybrids I'm seeing on some of the lists aren't even available in seeds and none of them would come true from seeds from a parent plant.) I think a lot are not understanding the point is just to try to match some of people's wants. It's not required.
That lion's tail is one cool plant!
Donna, I have like 20 types total (or more) that others are looking for, but like Hart said
I think a lot are not understanding, - the point is just to try to match some of people's wants. It's not required.
hmmmm Lions tail, I will have to try that one too :o)
This is just to see if each of us can get some of the things we would like to have, with out having to pay all those different trade postages... And also alot of trades is just that, they don't want sasb envelopes and they don't want to give their seeds and not get something in return... And like me, I don't have what they are looking for, so then there is no trade...
I have gotten totally ignored a couple of times when I have posted if they would except a sasbe for what they have and let me tell you. It doesn't feel to good either... And seriously if the ppl that did that to me wanted something I had now, well (you got it) I would ignore them.... People don't have to be rude, all they have to do is just say no.... And to top it off, the people that did this to me, lol I sent them seeds back in the summer at my expense... So my attitude to them is they can bite me :o)
It doesn't matter if you have what others want, but the lists narrow it down to what they would like to have... I will be tickled pink with any thing I get. :o)
I think the 26 people we have is a great number, if others don't want to join and list, that is up to them... As you can see, just from my list alone, there are many things I would like to have... that doesn't mean I am going to get them... BTW I found my original list that I had been working on for my shade garden b4 I started this swap, so I added it to my list of wants. *grinning*
I have received one envelope already and there are a few in there that someone wants, also dorothy_2006 has a few of what others are wanting... so it isn't going bad at all... reading the post made there are others that have some too that others are wanting..
The swap will close tomorro and list will be up on Thursday... and that's when the fun really begins ;o}
Hart I still get confused about Hybrids lol and I am glad you know what they are. I haven't a clue, unless it states that it is... Are there many that are listed that aren't available for seed? Can you list them, if to many don't worry about it.
Shoot I am still trying to figure out the seeds that I have, if they can be winter sowed or not. if they are for my zone or not and weather they are annual or perennial... It's very very time consuming, and I don't know how someone that works even part time, does this. lol
Connie
Oh BTW Hart, the job was already taken, so it's back to the Help Wanted Ads :(

Connie I usually give my seeds away SASE and get plenty in return. Is a slow year for me with starting over in a new place since Hurricane Katrina. Had a friend collet seeds for me to swap with since she normall doesn't collect but a few so I have a good variety. I wanted to do your swap first, already offered them at the butterfly group and they got what they want and still have plenty left. Sometimes we just don't know about or think a about a plant until we see someone offering. I will list all that I have and hope people want them. I plan to send lots of extras for you to pass out but want to make sure I put in enough for those that want them
Thanks DonnaB,
Man I did realize you were in Katrina. I can't imagine what you went thru and probably still are going thru... I do know it had to be rough... One of the Churches here went to Mississippi to help out. I wanted to go with them, but didn't get to, we were out of town when they went. I seen some of the pictures and man, the distruction was just unreal... I know there are alot of people scattered all over the US... Quite a few ended up in Detroit and surrounding areas. Glad to know you, and you are doing okay :o)
I will be starting the 2nd thread on Friday so you can list your haves there okay?
Well I am off to bed, everyone have a good night, and God Bless, Connie
Just about any perennial that has a name has a name because some hybridizer created it. So if you ask for coneflower Razzmatazz, for example, you're asking for seeds from a hybrid. If someone has that plant and collects seeds, the plants you get from those seeds won't be Razzmatazz.
You can buy hybrid seeds for some varieties and the plants will be true - Cosmos Cosmic Orange just to cite one - but if you save seeds from those plants, you won't get plants like the one you collected the seeds from.
And a lot of new hybrids are only available as plants, not as seeds. For example, the Razzmatazz coneflower. Go ahead and do a search. You won't find anyone selling seeds for it. Except some idiots on Ebay.
There are some exceptions. The Goldstrum blackeyed susan that I have will come true from seeds as do the White Swan coneflowers. I really don't if this is because they're not hybrids or if they're a later generation that reproduces the traits of the parent plant.
So what do you get if you plant the Razzmatazz seeds? Is it still pretty or are they sterile?
I may have to try that. I wasn't that impressed with my Razzmatazz anyway, it sure didn't look like the picture.
Susan
=^..^=
If the sprout at all, and they are often sterile, you'll most likely get a standard purple coneflower.
Okay we are still waiting on these three to list their wants...
Oh we are getting closer, :o) I can hardly wait lol
20. Susan51 - Susan
21. ZZTOPSOIL - Lelan
23. CheerMom - Sue
Are you 3 still around?
Has anyone heard anything from them?
Connie
Hi Connie, Just got back from our Thanksgiving trip to Ohio and stopped in to my favorite website just in time to see your "last" seed swap of the year. I think I have quite a few of the wants so I guess I'll jump in (don't know what possesses me sometimes). Do you happen to have a list of the wants you could send or post--easier than cutting and pasting all of the posts...
Thanks,
Deb
Hey Deb, welcome back, hope you had a great Thanksgiving - and welcome aboard. :o)
Remember I need all the lists of wants up by Thursday. Once I have all those I will start a new thread relisting them all so it will be easier for all to go thru them....

Okay, the swap is now closed... Once I get rest of the wants that need to be listed, I can finish my list and start the new thread, You all have a good night.
Connie
I'm sorry I missed this one Connie, but with moving I'd never remember to send or be able to find everything in the first few weeks at the new place. Our move got pushed up to THIS WEEKEND...Oy Vey! I'll never be ready.
The worst part...I have to leave all my plants (sobs). DH said we're not digging up all that I've planted, so someone will inherit my babies (and all the weeds since I've not stepped foot outside except to grab more boxes in almost two weeks!)
I'm so sad to leave my plants :(
But on a brighter note, everyone enjoy the swap. Maybe I can get in on the next one. HAVE FUN!!
~Sunny
Oh Sunny, sorry to hear you have to leave all those plants... And sorry you missed my last swap of this year. I can relate to not knowing where things are, even tho I am not moving. I have things boxed and stored waiting for dh to get our remodeling done, if ever lol :o)
Keep in touch and let me know how the moving goes.

Just pullin' some more seeds. I, too, have a bunch that zz's asking for. Grasses, amaranthus, cleome, columbine, foxglove...
JoAnn
Wow,After I got to looking over everyones lists so far I should be able to supply a few more than I originally thought of the wants listed so far.(man did that seem like a long sentence or what??) I better get back to checking what I all have. This is really *Fun* Connie.Thanks for putting it together!
Nancy
LOL Nancy, and we still have 2 that haven't listed their wants yet :o}
I really enjoyed the last one I did and I think this one is turning out to be another good one... Everyone is so great. I am already thinking of doing either a St Patty's or Valentine one... But that is just a thought, no really heavy thinking on that yet rofl... Got to make it thru to the new year first :-).
I HAD my pc desk all nicely cleaned off, Had lol... I have seed pks scattered every where :o)
Oh the excitement, the next to the last phase of this swap is at hand ;-} I can hardly wait til the final phase lol.
cg
This one will definitely be a Great One Connie! Oh My Gosh..I can't get the thought out of my head.I keep picturing poor Connie drowning in a sea of seed packets. : )
Me too Pamsue, & LOL @ Nancy, HELP gurgle gurgle I can swim rofl :o) or I should say choke choke rofl...
Connie
Connie, fortunately or unfortunately, I have come to my senses and will have to drop out...I have two birthdays, a major Christmas festival at our school and a monthly obligation for our church in the next four days (plus some major baking to do before Christmastide!
--Deb
Deb, :( Sorry to here that you are dropping out. But I hope you have fun with all the projects you have coming up :o) Happy Holidays to you and yours,
Connie
Well looks like were at 26 again, I hope I hear from cheermom - Sue soon...
Okay, I really don't want to do this but if I don't get her list by 12 pm est tonight, I will have to drop her from the list... So we can move forward :( I d-mailed her yesterday to let her know the deadline was today, also it is in the very first post... (RULES) I haven't heard a word from her since she joined and d-mailed me her mailing info... I hope nothing is wrong...
I don't want to sound like I am being mean, but I have to hold to that rule... Once I post the new thread tomorrow morning there will be no add ons... Only the wants that are met listed...
Any questions and such should be posted on this thread so the new one won't get so jammed up that I have to hunt thru all the post...
So to make it easier for all to see, if you have extra seeds to offer, I ask that you wait until every one has listed what they are sending to fulfill the wants list first ... Only after all those have been listed, then you can post the extra seeds you have to see if somebody wants any. :o) I also have some to post that others might want... I think that will help each of us to keep things straight. Me especially :o)
(I will be listing dorothy_2006 & Roose's) Roose has already sent me his seeds... And dorothy_2006 is not a paid member, so we are talking thru d-mail... She has already sent me a list of the seeds she has on hand...
Hope that makes since to you all :o) lol
Connie
One more harebrained question, though I don't want to make rabbits look bad (it's my first swap, be gentle):
Is it OK to offer brand-new commercial seed packets, of which I have several duplicates of ones people are looking for? Being in a new garden, my seed-collecting has been minimal this year.
T
I would think that if it they are currently dated seed packets, they should be just as good as any harvested by folks here. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not picky about how I get some seeds that I want or any seeds for that matter .... just as long as I get some! :-) And I know how it is just starting out as a gardener. I'm only in my second year, but was able to harvest seeds from a number of my plants this fall.
I'm sorry, I thought I flagged this to follow but I guess I didn't -- here's my want list:
