CLOSED: CGs Last MOST WANTED Seed Swap 2006
Mamajack, that's great! Please join the swap or let me know what I can send you to get some of your seeds.
Donna, if you're talking about balsam when you say touch me nots, I have seeds for those. I have zinnias and four oclocks and a few other things I see listed on some of the lists. I have blackeyed Susans but they're Goldsturm. They do come up true to the parent, very large flowers.
connie
i'd love to join. cont get my list togethrt till the weekend.i have quite a few of the wants listed. oh how fun!
diana
yes Balsam and Goldstrum is a good one too
I HAVE
cosmos
candy lily
purple majesty millet(from the actual plant, does it come true? surely it does) LOL
zinnias
I have some butterfly weed but I think it just the common orange, should I put it in?
I have a bunch of the echinacia Harvest Moon, Sunrise, Sunset, etc. but I don't think they are supposed to grow true...
I will check for others after while, have to put my groceries away. Went to WalMart today, groan....but it's my regular shopping day so I went...
Susan
=^..^=
Okay lets wait til the swap is closed to list any more haves or were gonna have to start another thread rofl...
Well all I am off for the night, got lots to prepare for tomorrow.
Also wanted to say you all are just a great bunch of WONDERFUL People
Have a Wonderfull Day Tomorrow :o)
Connie

Susan
=^..^=
no need to appologize, but we are filling this thread up really really fast lol
And I did kind of start it by asking what kind of garlic Nancy wanted and I broke my own rule rofl...
But, well, uh, oh shoot. rofl I was never one to pay attention to rules no matter who's they were roflmbo...
dorothy_2006 I need you to d-mail me your address, your not in the exchange.
Anyone else that joins and your not in the address exchange, please d-mail me your address...
Thanks Connie
Well I am really getting off this time, honest ingians (sp?) slang lol no such word.
Connie
Connie, it's honest Indians. LOL
nope, just remembered it, honest injuns, rofl. We never say proper words roflmo...
Connie
I think I might be in omh here. I do have lots of annuals and have saved seeds for the first time ever from some perennials, but I have not saved seed before, so I don't know if they will come true. Also, I mostly know I have seeds and what the general name is, I do not know specifics. EX: Cosmos, mixed shades of pink and white. If there is more than one variety I won't be able to specify....just how exact is the science of this swap? I can wait and try another one later if scientific and specific variety are important to others.
Happy Turkey Day to all!! Since I'm the main chef for the event, I'd better get off here and back in the kitchen.
As long as you know the common name and give as much info as possible, that should do...
For saving seeds, and what they look like, this is a good place to start http://theseedsite.co.uk/ Also if you know common names you can google it and usually come up with the real name, Just saying that for your own records...
I have to look up alot of the seeds I have received and it just makes it easier for newbies like me when I need to know what zone they are because most of the ones I have aren't for my zone so I have to grow it like an annual also it makes it easier to find out if they can be winter sown, so just list it the way you can and I am sure someone will come along and give us the name of it :o)
Linda, Most ppl on here that aren't new will help us with names and etc... So don't worry about it.
Connie
i don't think i have 10 kinds of seeds in any quantity. let me count...scarlet milkweed.
red tx. star
red m.g.
cleome lutea
catalpa...................enough for your whole state hart
pink asclepias.......unknown variety
4 o'clock.........but maybe only 5 seeds of custard and cream, red glow, peach or apricot............but that's 3
unknown blue m.g.
mixed jap. m.g.
blackberry lily
but nobody wants but 2 of these things so how can i do this? this is the part i don't understand. i have to send 10 packs of seeds. how do i get 10 packs of seeds that somebody wants? i know i was supposed to list my wants and i am sorry for not following the rules but there is something i am missing on this because other people stated they didn't have these seeds either so how does it work?
I'm still working on my seeds - most are in brown paper bags but maybe this will spur me on.
Sign me up - I have a very few of the wants mentioned.
Brenda
You don't have to have 10 different kinds of seeds, mamajack. Just 10 packs. I would personally love some red Texas star. Yehaaa on the catalpa. It grows all over the place around here but I don't know a soul who has a tree.
I think what Connie is doing is trying to match up things from the want list and beyond that, it's whatever is sent. Do I have that right, Connie? In other words, if someone has three things that you want, the rest of the seeds you get would be luck of the draw whatever was sent in.
mamajack, lol I am so sorry to confuse you. The idea of naming 10 seeds you would like to have, is just that a list of things each of us are looking for that we don't have.
that doesn't mean we will get all 10, but maybe only one. Whick will make me happy :o) Also the total seed pks to send are 15, what ever you have that some one else wants and then the ones you have extra of.
Example:
Hart wants catalpa, you have 1 kind that someone is wanting. You don't have anything else anybody want per say... So with that one pack you will add 14 pks of the extra seeds you have or don't want.. Once I receive all the B.E. I will divide the seeds to all participants... First to be divided are the ones that meet the needs. All the other seeds will be divided after word...
I am not sure how many seed pks each will get until I have closed this swap and counted how many ppl are participating...
Say if all you had to give is 15 pks of catalpa, then that is what you would send...
I hope that helped you...
Brenda welcome to the swap :o)
Well I got all my food stuff ready that I could tonight and in the morning I don't have hardly anything to do... I will start cooking around 12:30 and enjoy stuffing myself when it's all done :o) Hope you all have a great day, I am heading for bed, I am beat...
Mamajack I hope I explained that to where you can understand it. It is basically just a regular swap but with ppl listing seeds that they would like to get... Now I am going to read your mind rofl, It's not you, Sometimes I have trouble explaining things ;-) You are not alone....
Connie
right on the nose Diane :o)

I've never done a "group" seed trade. I've been reading this thread and it looks so interesting that I can't resist! Count me in! I have some seeds that others are wanting, so hopefully everyone will get some of their plant wish list filled!
What I'd like:
Tagetes tenuifolia - Dwarf Marigold
Mirabilis jalapa - Four O'Clock (any color flowers except yellow)
Zephyranthes - Rain lily (any kind)
Monarda didyma – scarlet beebalm
Nicotiana
Salvia splendens - Salvia (prefer red, please!)
Hemerocallis - Stella d'Oro Daylily
Cercis canadensis - Eastern Redbud Tree
Asclepias - Milkweed (any kind except Scarlet)
Petunia multiflora - Old Fashion Vining Petunia (all colors)
Conoclinium coelestinum - Blue Mistflower
What is the address that I mail the seeds to? And where do I find my DG number?
The only thing I see I might have a problem with is what zones it will grow in and the height. Can I guess, if I don't know or can't find the info online or on DG PlantFile?

Thanks Connie, that explanation helped me a lot!! I am still trying to get my list of wants together. LOL
btw, I would like to try catalpa if it will grow here. I remember those south of Oklahoma City, can't remember seeing any up here though.
Susan

Becky I am in the address exchange - you can get to it from the home page under extras... Just look for my user name. Your number will be next to your username/name once I can edit the first post, I did my edit limit yesterday so have to wait like 12 hours b4 I can edit again :( Once I can get in to the very first post all new comers will be added and given and a number will go next to their name....
Just give what info you can on the seeds you send... The rules are basically just a guide line. The more info on the seeds is just helpful to the ones that will receive them... thats why I use google to look up all seeds, instead of the plant files here on DG. sometimes my search will bring me to DG-PF's but that doesn't mean all the info I need is there. so I search other links when that happens... And I usually find what I am looking for, The only problems I run across thru google alot is when I click on a page, its usually in a foriegn language :( I know there is away to read all web pages in english, just haven't figured out its done yet lol or if there is a program I need to be able to do that... There are some links in google that says translate this page, so thats a big big help... But most don't have that link :( geesh...
I just looked up the word - catalpa on daves, there are different types listed so the only problem I have now is, which one is it???
There is catalpa- Desert Willow, Desert Catalpa, Flowering Willow, Orchid of the Desert Chilopsis linearis 'Burgundy' zone 8-9, Sun to Partial Shade
Farges Catalpa Catalpa fargesii zone 5-8, Full Sun
Chinese Catalpa Catalpa ovata zone 5-8, Full Sun
Northern Catalpa, Western Catalpa, Western Catawba, Indian Cigar Tree, Fish-Bait Tree Catalpa speciosa zone 4-8, Sun to Partial Shade and
Southern Catalpa, Catawba, Indian Bean Tree, Fish-Bait Tree Catalpa bignonioides zone 5-9 Full Sun.
If it is one of the ones for zones 8 and higher, I couldn't grow it here.... I am zone 5..
That is one of the reasons to put your name on the seed packs so whoever receives your seeds can d-mail you. If you have no idea about the seeds you send, write no clue...
Hey mamajack which one of the Catalpa do you have?
Thanks, Connie! Got it now.
Can I just staple the info about each plant to the baggie? Or are you splitting up the seeds in each of the baggies? Or are we just dmailing those we received seeds from for more info? Or is the information going to be posted somewhere on DG in a thread?
Also, are you going to start a new thread somewhere for the "Have" seeds list?
Sorry to be asking so many questions.

So all in all, I have a great deal to be thankful for :o)
You all have a great night, I will be on tomorrow.
