Shenandoah Valley, VA

Fo those of you looking for kalmia latifolia, mountain laurel, there's oodles of it growing in the national forest near me. I can't collect plants but I can collect seeds. I'll try to find you all some seeds if the wild kind will do. They have pink flowers, bloom in May. Not sure how late they hold their seed pods.

Also, someone wanted redbud seeds. I had a very few but got a bunch from my mother's tree on Thursday so I have plenty to send.

Connie, good luck on the new job!

hi hart...oh yes the wild ones will do...and id love a bunch if you can get some! im not sure about the seedpods either
pamsue

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Oh good, hart! I am one of the seed swappers that wanted redbud seeds. I didn't realize that they grow up north in VA? I understand that it blooms red/pink little flowers before it even gets leaves in the Spring. Is that true? I've only seen photos of this tree. It looks beautiful.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

It's a native tree here. Yes, the flowers are tiny little purple/pink balls studding the branches before the leaves emerge. It's the prettiest color. Where they grow along the roadside here it will be just a mist of purple for miles along the road.

The leaves are heart shaped. I think redbuds are just about perfect trees. Pretty flowers, pretty foliage, tough as nails and they don't get too big.

I'll check on the mountain laurel seeds this week if I can get up there.

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Hey Hart, Save me some laural and redbud too please :o)

Thanks a bunch, Connie

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Will do, Connie. I don't know if I'm going to be able to find the mountain laurel seeds but my mom's redbud has about a zillion seed pods so I can get as much as you all want.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

hart - Oh yes please! get some for me. Connie, I hope you will add some of the redbud seeds to the package that you are sending out to ME for this swap! This is something that I really want! THANK YOU, hart!

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks Hart, will take as many as you want to send me, I am soooo sick of DH planting all these maple trees, you know the kind that come up everywhere. :o)

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

no problemento rofl...

Hart if you just want to send them to me with each users name and number on them, I can stick them in with their return envelopes...

Shenandoah Valley, VA

What I'll do with the redbud and mt. laurel seeds is just make them up into a bunch of extra packets to make sure everyone who wants them gets them. If that isn't enough, I can always get more redbud seeds when I go to Mom's house for Christmas.

hi hart..id love some redbud seeds also if you get some as they are pretty and i am looking for shrub and small tree seeds as well
thanks so much

pamsue

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Could those of you who want redbud or laurel seeds go back and edit your lists to add them? That way I don't have to go through every single post to see how many are needed. I'm sure I can get plenty enough redbud seeds for anyone who wants them.

Backus, MN

Hey Summerkid,
The milkweed grows wild here, so I don't know any biological info, but I'll see what I can find. I can get all the seed you want. Anyone else? You need lots of the plants as the female only lays one egg on each plant.
Linda

I still need the following people to d-mail me their mailing info:
12. dorothy_2006 - Joyce
19. alinehuey

Thanks, Connie

Monroe, NY(Zone 6b)

Connie, I'm sorry. In my excited haste I misuderstood the instructions. However (since I only have a very limited amount of seeds in quantities to share) waiting for everyone to post their wish list really wouldn't make any difference in my case. I hope I didn't create more work for you.
Just one question Connie. Do we post the seeds that we do have?

Sal

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Sal, no problems, after I close the swap on Wednesday, if you have seeds that match some of the ones that others are wanting, you just list those seeds... not the persons name, just the seeds that match :o) I hope I explained that ok :o)

everybody I got a d-mail from dorothy_2006 she isn't a member of DG any more. So she can't post. I am waiting to hear back from her. I told her I would list her seeds for her, if she still wanted to play... Will let you know what I find out...

Connie

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Well, no luck with the mountain laurel today. I couldn't find a patch of it where I could get to it. It's a narrow mountain road with no shoulder and there was no place near any of it to pull over. I walked quite a ways where I could pull over and couldn't find any growing there.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I have finally made up my want list:
Corkscrew vine (vigna caracalla)
Chocolate cosmos
Black-eyed Susan vine (Thunbergia)
- alba(white)
- Spanish Eyes
- Sun lady
- blushing susie
- Blue glory
Spanish flag (mina lobata)
Japanese Morning Glories (unusual ones)
Sunflowers (unusual ones, i.e. black, red, fuzzy, etc)
Butterfly weed (ascelpias) Gay butterflies, this is red, orange and yellow in one.

Thanks!
Susan
=^..^=

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

hart - Thanks for attempting to get us some mountain laurel seeds. Not worth risking your life over! I'm perfectly happy just getting some of the redbud seeds! :-) :-) :-) Thanks for trying!

Shenandoah Valley, VA

It was very frustrating, Becky. Where I could get to the woods, I couldn't find any. When I drove about a mile down the road, there were oodles of them growing right by the road but I couldn't pull over anywhere to get to them.
