Garden Center Listing?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm getting the same thing, I'm sure Dave is tweaking things. What he had up and running this morning I think was sort of a "beta" version so he could get some entries in there before finishing up search features, etc so he's probably in there now either finishing things or ironing out some bugs.

is anyone having any trouble accessing it with Firefox? Or is it only IE users?

dave

I can get in with Mozilla.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

no trouble with Firefox here.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I tried with IE and it can't open it.

Northern California, CA

No access with IE7 here.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

IE here and cannot too . . .

It should be working for IE folks again now. Could you all try again?

It's working for me in IE.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

It works!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

It works - and I will start getting some in there this coming weekend.

Dave -

What would you like done with garden centers that have multiple locations? There is a family owned chain with 5 locations, all of which have excellent staff and plants. I've entered one location, what about the other four?

I notice now that I look at the list again, that you have seperate locations for the same outfit listed. I'm just wondering if 5 (or 10) entries for the same company might get a little unwieldy.

Candy, I was just coming to ask the same question. I put in Passanisi, but they have a Pengrove and San Francisco location.
Same with Sloat's and Armstrong.

Also Dave, my map disappeared. It was there when the count was at 47 entries, but gone now.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Multiple locations should be added separately.

(and my map is gone, too.)

Northern California, CA

Once the address information is entered and you check the actual entry page, the text reads "Mailing Address."

In some cases the physical location and "mailing address" are quite different. Annie's http://davesgarden.com/local/view/23/ is an example.
The mailing address is P.O. Box 5002 Richmond, CA 94805

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Dave - it's working now!

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Dave, I added a few this morning but there's one you'll need to remove - ,NA - cat walked across my keyboard before I could fix it - LOL :)

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Hi Dave, when I was adding some entries this morning, I noticed that the last two digits of the Canadian postal code are not showing up.

Sandy

I'll have Edit/Delete ability today and my goal is to also get the comment section finished today, too.

Canadian postal codes: all new entries going forward will be correct but existing entries will need to be edited (once that ability is there).

Regarding multiple locations: I think Terry is right that we should list them separately.

Great, thanks Dave!

So where on this website do we find Local Resources other than scrolling through this thread for the link?

I ended up being held up for many hours this morning so I didn't get as much done yet as I had hoped. Nevertheless, editing and deleting entries is now finished.

Only admins can delete entries.

Only admins, as well as the creator of each entry, can make changes to entries.

I'd like to come up with a better name for it (any ideas?) and then make a new tab for it at the top.

dave

Northern California, CA

I now have a N/A that needs to be deleted. :-)
It is the remains of MacAllister Water Gardens which has closed down. Thx.

No great ideas, but a term that comes up in threads covering local favorites is "Nursery Hoppers". That leaves out the public gardens, etc., so don't think it would work for all the categories.

Lakeland / Memphis, TN(Zone 7a)

Naming it is gonna be tough. What about Garden Trips ?

Northern California, CA

In the same vein as "GardenWatchdog," how about "GardenHound(s)"?

Like a hound follows a trail to the gardens, parks, farms, etc.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Garden Gallivants

The meaning fits it perfectly!

So I'm clear, I input Behnke's. I should input again for their other location, correct? Thanks very much for this new resource :)

I vote for Garden Hounds since I'm usually searching for something particular if I look it up and it goes so well with the Watchdog. I do like the GG alliteration though.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Or maybe Garden Directionary ;)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Garden Road Trips?

great ideas so far! Keep them coming!

I've added a tab to the top now (it currently says "Local"). When we finalize the name I'll change the tab.

dave

Also, you can now post reviews of the entries!!! The reviews will show up on the "Local Resources" homepage.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Love it! This is a great new feature! Yay!

Dea, great name "Garden Directionary"! Yet another new word stemming from DG from DG Folks!
(Well, at least I'm one who's never used the word 'directionary' before. Not yet anyway!

Shoe.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Slept on this last night, thinking name for this new feature might just pop into my head - didn't happen, but came up with a few ideas - none as catchy as "Garden Directionary" or "Garden Hounds" (I like that one Happenstance:)

Suggestions:

Garden Adventures
Garden Daytripper
Garden Gems
Garden Rambler
Garden Traveler
Garden Treasures

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

In keeping with the canine theme, instead of a golden retriever....Garden Retriever?

Dea

Has anyone used the zipcode feature yet? I'm wondering how it is working for you.

Specifically, does the map show up on the right?

Example: http://davesgarden.com/local/zip.php?zipcode=77808

dave

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

I'm getting that same old IE error, dave.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

IE error here also

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It works great with Firefox - except that no one has entered any nurseries in Houston yet. LOL
