carpentry help on lean to greenhouse

Beaumont, TX

Bin's built AND a bonus either planter or storage bin behind it. :) I took advantage of my scraps. In order for them to be long enough to reach the back 2 X 4 support where it's hinged, I had to use the dog eared part. It's different there than the rest of the counter...but I know exactly where the bin lid is. LOL

LOL I can see her doing that while sitting in your lap. It looks great Connie. I can see spades, and all kinds of implements of gardening in that spot. Just be sure to wersh 'em off in that cute little sink ya got there afore ya put 'em in the spot.

I'm fixin' to go see if one of them new winder box planters'll fit in the hole.

Beaumont, TX

yep. :^D

Janet I did not plan that. LOL

Salad in the greenhouse! I love it! You can wersh the veggies before you bring them in. Just toss your salad into a wooden bowl and viola! ROFL You couldn't have PLANNED that any better!

Beaumont, TX

Cool, huh ? :)

I got two of those plastic window boxes at the same time as the "sink" so I could use them for the seeds and one for an insert in a window box in the front of the greenhouse below the stained glass window. Thought I might try and use up some of my scraps. I had just planted that tomato plant, and got some gourmet lettuce and finger carrot seeds started in that planter. These will be my first veggies besides my herbs. No sprouts yet on the seeds but it was just last weekend I planted those. I picture some geraniums in the window box. Red looks great with the cedar.Or maybe some of the dragons wing begonia that does so well for me.

Beaumont, TX

Cedar was 50 cents a board cheaper yesterday than it's been being so I got what I needed to build the cabinet doors and under the sink counter closed in. Looks much more finished. Got some extras while they are reasonable in case I decide to do something else.

Looks great Connie. Now all you need is some "dressing" seeds! :-) Does Olive Oyl grow in a greenhouse? %*}

Beaumont, TX

I wish! I'd grow it! LOL

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Oooohhh!!!

You could grow Olives in that "real estate" in front of the greenhouse that you just re-gained. LOL

Beaumont, TX

suuuuuuuuuuuuuure. I'm going to have to do some serious amending of the soil there. Or put things in cedar scrap planter boxes.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

You got enough scraps to do the boxes. Git 'er done! HAHAHAHA

Is there enough sun to grow fruit trees? Like oranges or lemons? Remember, that Japanese Plum did great there.

Beaumont, TX

A grove!! lol I won't know until this spring. I dug up some bricks on the walkway this evening and raised them up where it was low and puddling. Then it got dark so I couldn't finish. I was sitting on the back steps pondering. Gotta look for a while before I decide what I want to do back there.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Once that tallow comes down, there might be more sun than before. You could plant grapes, blackberries and reaspberries. I could come eat cereal at your house. Or you could make some cobblers and invite me over to share with coffee.

Beaumont, TX

Can I grow coffee beans, too??? :) Boy maybe I need a cow and some chickens! Then we could have milk butter and cream and have eggs for the cobbler. I think I need some more real estate.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Bannies wouldn't take up much room. Connie you can grow ANYTHING you want in that spot now. That's plenty of real estate.

You still need to get busy growing mushrooms too!

Beaumont, TX

We can put those mushrooms in our salad. :) Janet I have a feeling those seeds sprouted so quickly because the dryer vent is right under there warming the seeds. I opened the cabinet doors the other night so warm air could get out now that the cabinet is closed up. But warm air was coming up thru the space between the cedar counter top like a grate. I thought I might reroute the vent from the outside wall to the front of the cabinet maybe under the stairs where it's not noticeable. Put a AC grill on it so it looks nice. Use some of that corrugated stuff just like goes from the dryer to out that hole on the outside.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Sounds like the perfect spot for starting seeds. I should bring all of mine over there to start when your plants come back out. (wriggling eyebrows here)

Sounds like you have got a great plan there Connie.

(BTW, Tell David that his return is ready. I will try and run it by to you there tomorrow.)

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

how about adding a small sink and a drain?

Beaumont, TX

Done did that phicks. It's the terra cotta pot up a few posts. Not your standard sink. LOL

Connie, I think it's time for a before and an after photo. I looked through my photos and couldn't find a good after photo of the whole front of the greenhouse. The only one I have has a big glare. Now that you have all of that real estate back, it's time to get some photos. :-)

I must tell you that every time I walk in that greenhouse, it looks, more and more like it's been there all along. You've done a fabulous job of creating a masterpiece Connie.

Let me know when it's time to make up some dressing to go on the salad. :-)

Janet

Janet thank you. I was just thinking the other day that I needed to remember to get some pics before I dive into that yard. Still no response from the tree cutter (on the tallow )I left a message with. I need to call a few more to have a variety of bids anyway. That needs to be done before I get in too deep and the tree tears all my work up. I remember the thud those logs made dropping in your yard when you had that tree removed. It sure would make the job easier to do before it sprouts out again.
I did get the trunk of the little plum all the way down. Little bugger was heavy for no bigger than it was. Very dense. Soon as we need no more heat I'll redo the plumbing on the gas meter so it'll look more presentable and be boxable. I don't want to have to crawl up in the attic over and under hanging upside down to relight the pilot on the furnace. I have to be a contortionist to do that so once a year is enough.

Oh! And a brick bar b q grill ,,,while I have the gas plumbing open fit it for a burner in there. Walk right outside the back door from the kitchen. Right where the tree is now.

I loved reading this thread. Your gh (could stand for guest house!) is amazing and beautiful!
Ann

Beaumont, TX

Thank you Ann. :) I have a few more nit picking things to do, but I'm there. Soon as I bring the plants out...and it won't be long now...I'll open up the fence to have swinging doors there for the summer. It'll make it so easy to bring plants in next year right off the deck and onto the greenhouse benches. They are strong enough to walk on and hang as I go. And that'll make another wonderful breeze in there. The dutch door and gate to the pool being directly across from each other does great now for air movement.
Still'll need to reroute temporarily that dryer vent when it's warmer and no longer necessary.
Got scraps under the bench still using and tools in there too. I hate to move either out just yet. I get wild hairs and still need them. Oh and the cedar window box needs building too for under the stained glass window. I might have time this afternoon to cut a few boards before it gets dark.

I got another of those planters from Walmart Janet, since I used both the ones I have already for seeds. One that was the designated insert for the window box has purple angels trumpets and pride of barbados seeds started.

I have mini carrots now sprouted with secondary leaves too ! Yay! They're soooo cute!

A tree cutter was here a little bit ago...500 bucks.

Beaumont, TX

Here's one just before I cut that plum the rest of the way down. See my bricks in front ?

Great photos Connie! I love that Real and Not Real. I knew the lizards would love that greenhouse. I bet you will be breeding them (intentionally, or not) in the winter. They will realize what a great place they have there to keep warm.

Still need some fancy trim around the top but it looks purdy good. I think it needs something to spill over the edge. Might need to go plant shopping !

WAYBIGO GRIN! And yes I'm shouting! HAHAHA Looks fantastic. Your planter looks wonderful! I like those angles.

How tall will the geraniums get? Will you still be able to open the window?

I wanna go plant shopping with ya, but I can't buy anything, after splurging like I did last weekend. I do love my new Icelandic poppies and bluebonnets. Can't wait until those BB's bloom. And I haven't killed the Goldfish Plant yet.

%*{|)

Beaumont, TX

The window does open but the planter also comes right out in case those geraniums get too tall.
I'm thinking of a curlyish design just like the trim has around the top edge of the planter. Might be a waste when the spillage occurs but I still want it there. The places I read on window boxes said they should be the same width as the window which is 36" so the planter is skinnier/not as wide but that leaves a pocket on each end (about three inches) for another small planter with something too.

I have a Denali and a PT Cruiser (both BIG timesuckers) tomorrow so I probably won't get to go plant shopping till the day after....maybe ...Fridays appointment's have ? beside them.
