I just went through and read your whole post. Boy what an accomplishment. Outstanding. I love it.
Wish I was that cleaver.

carpentry help on lean to greenhouse
Thanks Linda. And thanks for reading this whole thing too. It been kind of a journal for me to see the progress for myself. I am pretty proud of it and I had a blast doing it. ...now I think I'm ready to tackle something else. :) Seemed like it took me a long time but I could only work on it when I had time to get dirty or not worry about other things. I have several things now that got neglected I need to fix or do. Like laundry. LOL
It's nice and toasty in there. We're getting some really cold weather right now. Maybe sleet tonight. 31 the low.
Connie: What an Outstanding Job! You are blessed with a lot of patience and a LOT of Talent! That has to be the most beautiful Greenhouse ever made! You see the regular, plain ole', plain ole' type around, but your's is truly a Custom Made By You "Connie's Cottage"!!!
I sure hope you will continue to post a few photo's now and then! I really enjoyed reading this thread and seeing your photo's! What about a pic of the sandblasted glass? Or, maybe I missed that photo .... thought I saw all of them though.
I know you are going to have a Wonderful, Green, Growin time in your new "Cottage"! You said something about just using it in the winter for storage? I have a feeling it will be used year round! You could always just build something else not so fancy for winter storage! LOL :) You need to make room for one of those little round, wrought iron cafe type tables and you could have your tea or coffee out there and just contemplate your beautiful oasis!
Thanks you so much for the journal of progress! Sure wish you could channel some of that talent my way!
Lin
Oh Lin how nice of you to say these things. What a great idea about the table ! I found a cool little table at Goodwill Saturday which Janet and I put my pot of herbs on when she helped me lug in the big plants on Sunday. Then we decided those herbs might be better off in the garden window in the kitchen. I have them on the table still but that little table would be perfect! Now I need a little chair of some sort ...light enough to hang up out of the way when not in use but easily accessible when I want it...that way I don't have to sit on the steps with my coffee in the mornings. Oh! I'm going to go out and take a pic of that little table right now ! I bet it would hold two cups of coffee...wanna stop by ? :)
Great idea Lin. I really wish you could see it "in person". I liked your suggestion on the other thread for a title of "Made in the Shade Cottage". :-)
Connie, I told you that you need to make a cedar step ladder. Instead, make a folding stool that you can use for coffee, or reaching. You could use that waybigo cedar board as the top. In my mind, I'm seeing something like the chair that becomes an ironing board. You know what I mean. Something else that I thought of is that little square table you recently re-inherited from Melvin. You could park that outside (close to the fence so you don't have to see those neighbors) with some chairs in warmer weather. You could also use that table as the base for YOUR butterfly house! MUAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh yeah! I like that idea too Janet. Both of them.
If you're gonna use that table for coffee, you'd best be finding a piece of glass for the top. If you don't have one that small, I'll ask Rickly if he has any. He came up with one for that small bamboo table for me. It's actually too small for the bamboo table, but might be perfect for your table. Let's get out the tape measures! My glass is 16 1/4 and a hair bit! HAHAHA
I was thinking I could use a piece of that glass Hillary brought me. It's half a kidney might fit nicely. I'll check it out later.
OK
Later Tater
I have the dryer running and two loads of clothes to go. It was 55 degrees in the greenhouse when I took the pic. Remember that little thermometer we got a few weeks back?
I'll measure it next trip I make out there. I'm eatin' right now.
It's 12 inches so 16 1/4 would give it a nice overhang and make it a little bigger too. It'll work.
Sounds perfect for TWO cups of coffee. I guess you'll be needing 2 stools. One for you and one for me! HAHAHA
Yeah! Egggggggggggsactly what I had in mind. So how many boards will I need to buy for you to make me one out of cedar too?
LOL We may have to sit on our fists and rare back on our thumbs for a while.
There are plans for it on the internet.
Oh, I love that table! And, yeah, a folding chair, or one you could hang somewhere to keep it out of the way when not in use would be perfect.
If I lived closer, I would love to come over for a cup of coffee, to sit and chat, gaze at all your wonderful plants & art, and that glorious "Cottage"!
Lin
I'll trade you my glass for one of Hillary's kidneys. Good Lord! That sounds like I'm trying to get one of my daughter's kidneys! HAHAHA
Maybe one of those "kidneys" will fit on top of the bamboo table. Getting out the tape measure again.... The bamboo table is 22" across the top. Ya think one of them will fit?
As for sitting on my thumb.... I think I'll just do the "getting outta the pool thing" and sit on one of the benches until the stools are ready, if ya don' t mind!
Remember Aunt Eltie used to say that when we'd get ready to go sit on the front porch if the chairs weren't setting out there. She took up the whole swing. LOL
I have no vehicles to tint this morning deliberately due to the freeze so I'm fixing to head out there with my coffee and see how the warmth did in the greenhouse.
I'm sure either half of Hillary's kidney would work Janet. I've seen Pat use his belt sander to smooth out the edges on glass for me so we could do that where it broke. It's a nice straight break.
Thinking about filling in the edges of the bricks this morning.
Anytime you're in this neck of the woods you're welcome to stop by Lin.
I'm sitting here waiting on Jolie to get here so I won't be worrying about that glass for the next few days. I'm watching her each day through Thursday. Maybe Friday we'll worry about that glass for me. In the meantime, if you want to come by and get that piece of glass I have, you're welcome to it. I've already taken it off the bamboo table.
I've been working on our web page this morning. I added a page for jewelry. We need to get a good hosting site because it's almost ready!
OK now we have trim around the dutch door. I didn't do the door itself because it's heavy enough with the glass. It swung perfectly before the glass and now it sticks just a tad. Just a little adjustment on the hinges but I'll have to have Janet's help holding it up there while I scoot it up a hair bit. Then when I have plenty of clearance, I'll trim it. This pic makes it look kinda skewed. I took it from up high looking down and that could be why because it looks fine in person. Made a little shelf today too, but haven't taken pics yet. It's staying warm in there. I used my new brass hook for my flannel shirt while I worked on the trim. :) Oh I've also filled in the bricks on the edges. And got the water hose in there hooked up to a faucet on the cold water side. Still no sink yet.
Fixed the space between the top and bottom. Didn't have to move those hinges after all. Sliced a hair bit off the cedar trim piece on the table saw that was the spacer on the top of the bottom gate which also gave me something to mount the window latch to before I trimmed the inside and now the upper door opens and closes just fine with just enough clearance.
Looks much better Connie. Ya done did good!
I'm running one more outlet on the other side tomorrow, so I'll use the box already there on the other side then put a new box with 4 where the one I'm moving is. Might not need them later but right now I have charger and a couple saws and radio and baby monitor and heater and LOL
I moved the radio to under the eaves after I watered the plants and discovered one hanging plant dripping on there ! The radio doesn't need the sunlight anyway. Got all my tools in the sterite bin that has nothing in it yet so those stay nice and dry when I water.
Got me a nice flat bed wagon today at Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=38137 It was nearly half off! I been needing one for coming around the house with huge bags of potting soil and other things. Thinking about building a little wood cage or rim around it out of cedar scraps (got plenty of those!) that comes off and on and finding some sort of "barrow" for dirty work for it too. Just the right container will come along. Couple 5 gallon buckets will work fine until then.

Thanks Janet! I'm thrilled with it. Getting pretty good at this trimming. Especially when I think to myself...Rick'll notice that...better do it again. LOL
Rick is Janet's hubby who happens to BE a trim carpenter. Several things got redone after he saw how I'd done them. I'm much happier now. Thankful for his input and him allowing me to pick his brain. He also said I could nit pick it to death. He was right. I am. LOL

I had a little time this afternoon so I started on the side where the sink was going. Moved all the ladders and scraps. I had been thinking about what I wanted to use for a sink. Janet's hubby suggested I make my own. I think it's perfect for the greenhouse! I used the Dremel to make the hole bigger and beveled so the drain would fit down in there last night. Today I built a bench and got the top started, cut out the opening for the "sink" where I wanted it to be. Haven't got it hooked up yet or the faucets up there. I'll mess with that tomorrow if I have time.
Connie, it looks much better than what it did yesterday in Walmart! HAHAHA You're brilliant Woman! Just BRILLIANT!!! I love it!
Okay I'm totally jealous of your masterpiece! It is amazing!!! It's perfect and tooooo tidy....lol! Are the plans free for the chair/stool? I've seen it before and thought it would be perfect for a greenhouse.
:) Donna
LOL Thank you Janet and Donna. :)
OK...I'm getting a little carried away...I know. But it's turned out so nice, better than I envisioned in the beginning because of the stained glass mainly, and I'm really having so much fun doing this.
No, I think I remember they were 12 dollars for the plans, Donna. I saw one on ebay that had gone for 39 dollars already build but the auction had ended. It'll be more fun to build one but maybe not cheaper after lumber, hinges and hardware.
I'm not sure if it would hold water like a real sink but it's not like I will be doing dishes out there. :) Just somewhere to wash my hands without having to do it one hand at a time holding the hose. OH! I'll need a special hose hanger too. Remember that hand I found at the Treasure house Janet? THe one somebody wasted all the welding rod's probably on the clock. LOL I was thinking that might be a good hanger for the nozzle.
The hand circled in this photo is the only hand I can recall, but then I've slept since the last time we went to the TH. Is this the one you're talking about? That lizard from Ross would be cool in there. Do you have enough low voltage wiring to make him light up in the greenhouse?
The "sink" is about 6-7" deep. It's hard to see just how deep it is in the photos. Connie, I just can't get over how good it looks.
Yes! I nearly forgot him Janet! ooooooooooo His wiring is right there on the same back wall (fence)of the greenhouse! Right there where I'm going to open that up as a window/gate is his wire.
yep...That is the hand.
I was thinking this morning...I saw some various lengths of brass nipples in a bin at Sutherlands the other day while perusing the plumbing section. Think I'll get me two of those about 6 inches long as risers so I don't have to look at the PVC above the counter top. Then attach the brass spigots to those. They'd look a lot better than seeing the PVC on top. Underneath who cares.
I sure wish I didn't have to work today. It's miserable out there raining and nasty.
I know. I've been up since 6 am. The brass plumbing idea sounds great. I wondered how you'd do the "fixture" business. I knew you'd figure SOMETHING out! HAHAHA You always do!
Something else I thought about. You could make some small "lighted bottle" bushes on either side of the window box.
I'm feeling a need to get my hands dirty.... just so I can come wash them in your new sink! Dayum Woman! Ya done did good... yet again!
Sure can ! But it's awfully cold today especially when your hands are wet ! brrrrrrrrrrrrr
I'm going to like the hose moved to where it is now much better. It stores nicely under the front bench now. It reached fine before but I had to drag it across the entry to get to the plants. I only had to temporarily take out 10 bricks (straight shot from under the sink) to get to the other side and around the corner. I'm figuring out the easy way as I go. Well ...not always easy to accomplish... but easier for me when it's done.
The soil bin is next. Janet suggested I raise it up to the sink counter level and have a hinged opening on top. I made the counter support framing with this in mind. The big sterite bin fits between the 2 X 4's. It will be supported underneath with a little platform between the steps and the house wall making that space usable. And easier to unload big bags of potting soil off the new wagon right there at the entry and into the bin.

Looks great!
You had a great idea putting that shelf under the sink. You can put your pots, etc. there and with that grate on the shelves, any moisture would drain off the shelf.
When we talked about those white shelves earlier today, in my mind the split shelves were going to go under the bigger benches. I like this much better. The pots will be close to the dirt and there will be water right there too.
The dirt tub platform looks great. I'm seeing cedar trim on the front, coming down the steps, to cover that side up. Then, put "doors" over the white shelving. With the little space between the bricks and the counter (can't tell if it's "flush" or not due to the angle) you might make some cedar bi-fold doors there.
Don't you just LOVE me for spending YOUR money! HAHAHAHAHAHA
Janet
Quit reading my mind! I never said I was doing that out loud! LOL
