I will be brave and admit I don't, in fact, I don't even know what a blog is. What is it? Just an electronic journal?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi, Cathy. Yes I blog too. It's fun and there is so much to learn to customize it as well. I didn't see any options for links on your site, did you remove them or were they not there to start?
I'm at http://bugsnbuds.blogspot.com lots of bug and flower macro shots. I've included a link to Nancy's (nap) blog on there. Check out my blog and let me know if you would like me to add a link to your blog, too.
Have fun.

IHi, Cathy. Andy and I sort of discovered blogging at pretty much the same time. So we have links to each other's blogs, as he mentioned above. I would also be happy to link to yours, if you'd like.

I've added some links. This is so much fun.

I'm almost an old-timer in the garden blog world, since my blog is almost two years old (an eternity in blogs). I can tell you young'ns that your real test will be in the middle of January... do you disappear for two months, do you start posting about what you're going to have for lunch, or do you do what most of us serious garden bloggers do... look for the cats to see if they'll do something cute you can take a picture of.

it can't be that good, if nobody can address my comment

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Vossner, A Blog is a Web Log, something like a journal. Some folks use it to sell things, discuss politics, post video clips or almost any thing. It's like your own personal web site, you can do/post anything. Some people make money by taking advertising on them. Mine is more for photos, thus the term PhotoBlog.
It's also FREE.

Zone, I have a backlog of pics so I should be OK through the Winter, unless everyone looks at my PhotoShows which is unlikely. lol. I don't post every day any more, either.

Zone denial, you've got some awesome pics on your blog. Thanks for linking it for us.

Kylee

Hey Kylee! I can't get into your blog. All I can see is the cardinal.

Yes, I'm told I blog every time I use My Garden Diary here. Seriously, I don't blog and didn't even realize I was blogging here until somebody pointed it out to me. Every once in a while when I do a search for something, somebody's blog will show up. They're kind of neat but I'm afraid I don't have time to maintain one of those. I do enjoy them when I run into them particularly when it is the blog of somebody I know.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi Ya, Kylee. Long time no see.
It looks like there is good activity on your blog. I gave up on mine after months of talking to myself.
I started a photo web site and invited a bunch of friends to join. We are up to 158 members with dozens of posts per day, nearly 5000 pics in the public gallery and I'm not talking to myself any more. I even use it as a free image hosting service. Visit http://dailyPics.ning.com/

Hi E! I'm not sure why you can't see my blog. I haven't had anyone mention a problem. Try again? I've discovered a whole network of fellow gardeners through blogging, sort of like here. :-) I've met a few of them, too.

Andy! Good to 'see' you! Yes, pretty good traffic for my blog. :-) I'll check out your site!

I will try again!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I am one of Andy's members and if you want to see some great photos and some 'familiar faces' then Andy's Daily Pics is the site to see.

Kylee, I loved your blog! Your wintersowing tutorial pictures were so explicit, that even the most novice of gardeners should be able to do it. And the gray cat sniffing the yellow lilies...what a beautiful picture!

Thanks for the tour! I don't use my blogs for commentary, only for photos. But if you want to see them you can click here www.heavenscentbynancy.blogspot.com and here http://heavenscentbynancy2.blogspot.com/.

I've heard the term for years and thought it sounded so stupid! But upon seeing a friends nice presentation of one that journals the happenings in her family I thought I'd give one a try. I use blogspot.com for free and have it set up so that ONLY person I have invited can view it.

The funnest part is creating a moving slideshow of pics downloaded from your computer to this link: www.onetruemedia.com and then setting it to music, also free, posting the html code to your blog so the video you made there appears on your blog page.

I've learned a lot as I've played with both sites and find it fun and rewarding. I can't believe I still have relatives who do email but say they don't know how to open my blog (with the password given to them). Sigh. That was the whole point initially, to give people far away a chance to check in on us.

Nancy, your images are exquisite!

Thank you!

Kbaumle, I just saw your comments on my blogs, and yes, many of the pictures I posted are scans!

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I tried that once. The picture is here: http://ourlittleacre.blogspot.com/2007/11/scanned-rose.html

I did a fern leaf, too. Mine don't look so hot. LOL.

I'll admit it's not as easy as it sounds, especially when the subject has any depth to it. But you did great! Try playing around with the histogram. I think your fern leaf looks perfect! (it's flat)

Histogram?

Oh, I did an hydrangea, too. I forgot about that one.

I messed around with the fern scan in Photoshop and did various effects with it. Now THAT was fun!

I guess we're getting off the subject, sorry!

Hi, just saw this thread and wondered, too, about blogs and blogging. Cathy, your blog is so pretty and it looks like you'll have a fun project.

I really have no clue about how to set up a blog on the 'net--if it's easy to do or you have to be a 'programmer' or something...

And how do people find your blogs? Is it by word of mouth? Are all blogs linked into Google somehow so that they will come up when you search for something they discuss?

Another question--are the 'flicker' photo pages considered 'photo blogs'?

I googled and found "Blogger" was one place to have a blog.

Any comments? Thanks for your patience.... t.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I know nothing about programming. But I do know that the Blogspot site makes it quite easy to do. Just go and sign up and follow their instructions. You can always make changes later if it's not what you want. They lead you through the process. Be brave!

I don't know the answer to your other questions. I'm sure someone will be along shortly who does.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

tabasco, I'll try to answer your questions.

You don't have to know anything about programming. Blogger/Blogspot is a very easy site to set up your blog. That's where mine is. I've had it for a little over a year and have found it quite easy to use.

People have found my blogs by word of mouth, yes, for sure, but people will google different search terms and if I've written about that thing, then my blog will show up in the search results. Many people have found it that way. Once people start reading your blog, they'll leave comments and you can then visit their blogs and leave comments on theirs. I've found many great blogs by visiting the blogs of those that have commented on one of my blog posts.

I don't use Flickr for photos on my blog (although I will probably have to in the future, when I've used up all my photo space on Blogger), so I'm not sure if Flickr has a blog section or not.

As nap says, be brave! Just do it! It can be addicting. I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I do.

Thanks, Kylee, for your tips and recommendations and for sharing the link to your blog.

I read the story about your hometown, and now I am totally curious about the name of it!?

And your photography is beautiful and so is your blog lay out. I don't remember seeing that back ground as a choice on blogger, but maybe you have a premium package? I'll have to go look again...

Ah, well, I will have to study blogging a bit more. Yours is a great example of one though, and if you think of any other ideas, I hope you will share them with me! t.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, t! No, that isn't one of the standard layouts. I just recently changed it. There are other templates that other people have made that are for free out there. I wanted one with three columns, not two. So first I changed that, then I used a free background graphic for both my backgrounds. If you know a little bit about HTML, it's easy to change things. I know just enough to be dangerous. LOL.

Oh, I didn't want to list the name of my hometown on there just to have a teeny bit of control over privacy, although it wouldn't be too hard to find it.

Kylee

thanks for the follow-up. I will fiddle around with Blogger and see what I can do. It sounds like you have some talent with HTML, but HTML only makes me crazy...a big frustration for me in today's computer world...

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, believe me, I've had some HTML disasters. LOL.
