clay buster plants for zone 8

Killeen, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi ,
I am looking for info on clay buster plants that would grow in zone 8 and prefer it dry.
Preferebly red, white and blue (purple ) plants.
Thanks for any suggestions

Port Lavaca, TX(Zone 9a)

How about salvia, I have red and blue and yesterday I saw some white. They are wonderful in my black clay in zone 9a, they like dry. Red and white are coccinea, they seed so if they freeze you'll have voluteers come up. And the blue is farinacea "Victoria." Plumbago is a good light blue. If it freezes it will usually come back.

I saved an old magazine article entitled "Clay-buster garden"., lol...

here are the plants they suggest:

'frisia' black locust tree
'nearly wild' rose
'six hills giant' catmint(note:...I prefer 'walker's low', myself...)
sideoats grama(Bouteloua curtipendula)...(note: sea oat grass is nice, too)
Liatris spicata
Russian sage(Perovskia atriplicifolia)
'Goldstrum' black-eyed susan(Rudbeckia fulgida)
'Heavy metal' switch grass(Panicaum virgatum)
Cup plant(Silphium perfoliatum)
Frikart's aster(Aster x frikartii)

I don't have much knowledge or experience with many of these(except where I noted),...just copied the list for you. Hope it helps.
