Patriciag, I have no idea how to prune lavender....most varieties aren't too happy down here with all our hot humid weather in the South. But I did want to say hello to the 3000th person to join DG! Welcome!!!!

It won't do well in Texas, so I haven't a clue....I just wanted to stop in and say

Hello Patricia! I usually just give my lavendendula a haircut. At least that's what I call it. I trim off the dead stalks after it's finished flowering. Very easy.
I join in the good wishes and hope you enjoy your stay with us.
Over at the uk forum I'm in the process of having a tea party. We having a cream tea. If you'd like to join us you'd be most welcome.

Hello Patricia and also congrats to you,3000th member''This is my 1st time growing lavendula augustifolia' It's been really slow but our weather has much to do with this problem, humidity' I've seen the tv shows where some grow it well,no problems, lucky' Mine is getting somewhat straggly, maybe soil, weather but I'm not touching it until after it blooms,if it does that is' I rarely water it as others say lavendula prefer somewhat arid conditions'As for pruning,I'm just letting mine go and reseed in the container as this is its 1st year' Have you asked any nurseries?? Let us all know''Sis'

I don't know if its right or not but I always cut mine back in the spring... all the dead. But I have been known to take a snip here and there if I don't like the looks of it and it seems to do just fine.

I prune mine hard very early in the spring.....like in March. I cut it to within inches of the ground and my plants are full and bloom nicely each year.
