Whats blooming at your house?

Hi Ardesia:

I agree with you about the peppers! I'm a chicken when it comes to eating spicy foods so whenever I use a pepper, I use the smallest one that I can find. LOL

The plant with the red foliage is Acalypha 'inferno'.

I had also never heard of the Cornutia until I purchased it from Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. I find plants at their sales that I never find anywhere else.

Your photos and your plants are wonderful! I hadn't heard of Cornutia either, beautiful.

I checked the Fairchild calendar and they have a number of plant sales. Are any better than others? I am overdue for a roadtrip to FL and would like to visit at a good time for plant buying.

Thank you April.

Ardesia:

The Member's Day Plant Sale is a good one. It's held in October every year and members of the garden can choose from a limited amount of "distribution plants" and other sale plants. The distribution plants aren't commonly available and each member receives a distribution list prior to the sale.

The Ramble is a great sale. Fairchild sells plants along with vendors selling plants and other items. This is an
event for the entire family and it's more than a sale, it's a garden festival.

There are also sales sponsored by different plant societies. My favorite of these is the Tropical Flowering Tree Society's sale held in May.

Thanks, I'll keep all that in mind and try and plan a trip. I love Fairchild: perhaps I'll become a member, I bet they have a great and informative publication.

This weekend there's a plant show in Mount Dora, about 45 minutes from Orlando.
Lots of different plants, beautiful show.
