Pride of Barbados and many others, this is a good time of year for us, lots of sun but not too harsh and temps are much cooler than our brutal summers.

Lisa this is the only time of year that I am happy to live here- winter is fine, spring ok but summer is awful. Fall is the best!

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

aprilwillis, love your pic of the coral vine and POB together. Two of my favorites!!!!

Ann isn't that an amazing combo? It happened purely by accident, but I sure do like it!

My confederate rose bush is blooming.

Oh that's very nice!

Hanover Twp., PA(Zone 6a)

I'm sad! It's not fair to ask a zone 5 person what's still blooming. My fall blooming sage, a few rose bushes, the toad lily, the berries are bright red on the heavenly bamboo and the fall callicarpa berries are beautiful.

Do any of you know this vine. The small yellow flowers aren't that wonderful but the seed pods look just like butterflies. So the common name butterfly vine. I had to bring it in because it will bloom up to December. Way to cold for this zone.

Here is a picture of the seed pod. They get paper brown and I've seen people paint them. They really look just like butterflies.

And some of my cannas are still going full throttle. Since ths is tropicals, I won't mention the red flowering sage, variegated purple flowering sage, petunias, 4 O'Clocks or pansies. BUT, my brugs are putting on another flush of blooms which will be opening soon. God, I love it here!

I also forgot to mention that my Justicia Carnea is still blooming. And again, non tropicals I have purple dahlia still blooming and a very confused azalea that is NOT an Encore.

Gotta show that purple variegated sage, though...it is just too pretty to ignore...Oh, and I just cut down the last of my blooming nanners for this year. I'm going to be mad if any more put up flag leaves at this point in the year....

mgarr, I would continue to call that vine Butterfly Vine. See this link for the correct, unpronouncable, name.

Thanks! I just bought them a couple of months ago from Buried Treasures. They were just tubers (or is it rhiazomes?) and they came up and bloomed that quickly! I have three other cultivars I bought from them that are growing liek gangbusters but ahven't bloomed yet. They are:
C. Orange Kiss
C. Purple Queen
C. Laddawana
He had them on sale for next to nothing. Check the Classifieds...right now Chris has his Euphorbias on sale!

Lovely plants everyone! I will try to get out in my yard tomorrow and take some pic's of what's blooming in my garden! I'm pretty new to the DG website, just joined the beginning of this month, and I'm loving it!

Aprilwillis:

I am so curious about that GEORGEOUS plant you called 'Pride of Barbados'!!! I have never seen or heard of that plant before. Is it fairly easy to grow? Do you know if it will grow outside in my zone 9b in Central Florida. Or, could it be grown in a container and moved indoors during cold weather as I have to do with many of my plants? Do you know of a mail order source for them?

Thanks for any info you can give me on this plant. I hope to be able to add one to my plant collection!

Again, thanks everyone for all the great photo's of your blooming plants! And, I hope to post some pic's tomorrow!

Lin

I'm sure Pride of Barbados (Caesalpinia pulcherrima or dwarf Poinciana) will grow for you in zone 9B Lin. It's a lovely plant and should not be too hard to find; otherwise they are easily grown from seed.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm in 8b and POB does great in the ground. Because it gets so big and sprawling, I cut mine back to about 1' each fall and lo and behold come spring there it goes again. I think that cutting it back lets it really concentrate on building good roots. Haven't tried rooting a cutting but the dried seeds can be soaked and planted deep in fertile soil and bloom the same year they are planted. That's been my experience.....

Ann

(Zone 1)

Thanks for the info on this plant! I'm going to try and hunt up a source for one! It is really Georgeous!

Well I threw the Tropicals into one of small three GH's have weeks ago.
The temporary one is just plastic thrown over a gazebo.
We've had at least 5 heavy frosts and three freezes.
No Heat in here and......

Plantladylin sorry I didn't respond sooner, I have been having internet problems the past few days.
This small tree will do very well in your area. They are readily available here and I am sure in FL as well. Easy to care for and during the summer and fall they are covered w/ beautiful flowers. This tree is one of my favorites and I can not say enough about it.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Oh Delecie, I am so jealous of those plumerias, mine chose not to bloom this year. All your plants are beautiful but you can keep those peppers. I love hot spicy food but I draw the lline on the Scotch Bonnets.

Now tell us what that gorgeous red foliaged plant is behind the Cornutia (which. by the way, I had never heard of or seen before). You gotta love the things you learn here on DG.

Viera, FL(Zone 9b)

Still have lots blooming here, gingers, plumeria, jatrophas, firebush, brugmansia, tibouchina, firespike, and cupheas.
