Anita, I'm not a hardware geek, I'm a software geek. And mostly what I do is criticize existing software and say I could have written it better LOL.

Pixie, I like your 'eat til the wrinkles fill out'. I have a girlfriend who I have literally been friends with since birth (our grandparents and parents were friends and she is 23 days older than I). when we we kids we were always about the same height and she weighed about 10lbs more than I did. well, things change, I got taller and a lot wider. and she always wanted to know why she had more wrinkles. I told her to just gain 10 lbs a year LOL

gram ~a geek~

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

gram - that filling out the wrinkle thing is SOOOOO true. I visited my college roommate this summer and she is so thin that she doesn't even have a stomach - and wrinkles - ohmigod! She is a month younger than I am and looks 20 years older! Fat is good for the complexion!

I'm kind of a geek, too. My speciality is Excel and I know something about the other pieces of the office suite. I'm not a techie - I don't have a cell phone and only have a CD player in my car - that I hardly ever use. (I still have, love and listen to hundreds of LPs. ) But need something done with Excel and I'm "the (wo)man". ~*snicker*~

I got this in an email message. Jeff Foxworthy gets the credit for it.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

ain't it the truth! Love the way Jeff sees things!

So your niece feels old?? What does that make me??? I'm only 41!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Yank, I LOVE Excel. I keep spreadsheets of everything for my garden (in addition to the gardening software I have ~ that I could have written BETTER LOL ~). oh, yeah, I use it for work, too. but when it comes to writing formulas and using it as it was intended I sometimes get stopped in my tracks. so all hail to the Excel Master! LP's RULE! as does Foxworthy.

Pix, on second thought, tell your niece to get over it!

I'm feeling a little old right now. I've been a busy boy all day.
After checking in here and adding another pic to my blog I started outdoor work. It's been a beautiful day.
I washed the outside of the windows in the front of the house then washed the car. I then gave Sidekick Sarah a bath then washed all her towels and bedding. While she and the laundry were drying I lifted all my Glads, Oxalis and most of my many Dahlias. Trimmed all the greenery off and composted that. The bulbs/corms are drying on the lawn now. We then took our daily walk and snack. And I have a couple of decades on Anita.
The only important item I didn't do was spray my indoor plants that have been in the basement for 2 days. They don't come up until they are de-bugged.
It feels good to sit down. lol. It's also nice to have clean windows again.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

How exactly does one "do" windows? LOL This is the first time I've lived anywhere long enough to feel that wasging the windows outside might be a good idea. But then all the other people on the street (who have lawn services) could look in and see who they were laughing at. There's one to add to the list.

If your neighbors leave anonymous notes that your property is affecting property values for the whole street, you live in New England.... or at least near Boston.

This weekend was pick your own apples time. I couldn't go as my special needs son was sick, so my younger son and his girlfriend went to help out with the girls. He should get Uncle of the Year award! He's only 18 and has 2 days off a week(sometimes just 1) and he spends one of those days w/his niece's. He's a good boy and the girls love him to death!
This is Uncle of the Year .......Uncle Josh

And his girlfriend, Mallory. She has fit right into our family over the last 2 years, wouldn't mind if she ended up my daughter-in-law someday. (someday being 7 yrs. @ least!)

Hi, Everyone,

While I don't post often, I read all of yours in the Northeast every day and enjoy them immensely.

My heart goes out to the snow people, though--I'm sorry to see your frozen plants and hear of your power outages and damaged trees. Kassia, Your sign was so thoughtful and your turtles so adorable.

Andy, It's so nice of you to share your photography tips. Congratulations, Dave, on your award.

I have Honorine Jobert growing now. I had to put them in jail this year for their own protection because Bambi & Co. took them all last year.

Pixie, the horses were great but your kin was cuter.

Hi Loretta! Thank you. I'm amazed your anemone is still going strong. I have about 3 buds left on mine.

The age talk has me wondering how many decades we have covered on this thread. I know we have 40s 50s and 60s covered. (the attentive DGer will be able to deduce my decade from this statement) What others decades do we have covered?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi, Loretta, nice to hear from you. you should speak up more often so we know you're there. Honorine is so pretty. glad you didn't lose them to the d##r.

Pixie, Josh & Mallory are both pretty special to spend time with the girls. of course, they seem like pretty special little girls, so it works out all around. another great fall Sunday right out of the picture books! (hope Justin is feeling better)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Loretta, that anemone is beautiful !! Must put a smile on your face everytime you see it. White flowers surrounded by fall colors and still blooming. Mother Nature must like you!

Dave ~ Thanks, I think the 'kin" is cute too. The work horses just amaze me, so big and powerful in the fields but patient and gentle wiith the kids. Reminds me of my Grandfather, 6' 4" with huge hands, swung a chain saw like it was a pair of scissors. Clear blue eyes fanned by weathered crows feet, crisp white hair, and a soft "boom" of a voice. (he talked softly but his voice was so deep it "boomed"...if you know what I mean.
Gram ~Thanks for the good wish's toward's Justin. (can't believe u remembered his name!) He's got a head cold w/a sinus infection and not up to tromping through the orchards today. But we were glad to eat the fruits of THEIR labor! LOL

Those anemone are beautiful Loretta. Thanks for sharing.

Pixie - as usual -you have one good-lookin' family!

Andy, I did a lot of yard work today too. Felt good to sit down as well - just painful to get back up!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pixie, your description of your grandfather is beautiful!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Awwe thank you Dave! He was a big beautiful man.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i got my first frost yesterday. yuck!!! all the annuals are gone. i didn't even know it was coming, although it arrived one day before our last frost date.
i'll work outside as the weather permits but if i don't, it will be there in the spring to clean up and the plants still standing will be considered winter interest. i like that expression. LOL works for me. :-)

gram, what kind of gardening software do you have? what do you use it for?

i have office excel on my computer but i only get it free for a month, so forget that. i also have windows spreadsheet, which i'm trying here and there to learn. i used to know lotus 1-2-3 pretty well, but i haven't used that in about 5 years now. do either of you know windows spreadsheet? i would like to make an inventory spreadsheet of some jewelry making supplies i have. or can i buy something lke this. i'm totally geek less. :-) been out of work for 13 years too, so that has something to do with it too. no exporsure to what is out there anymore.

well................adios. i must get dressed and head out for my manicure and pedicure. going to aruba next monday morning. :-) big big big grin.
debi & franklin (who they are leaving home while they go to the warm sun and sea....bad momma and daddy.......) LOL

Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Dave,
I think you have 2 clues for us re: the age thing. Is the 47 in your name what I think it is? Sorry I don't have a new decade to add; I'm already covered.

Pixie,
Great family pix and stories. Gram, too.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I peeked out at my tubers drying out on my patio this morning. It's so sad to see that. I do love the fall colors, but knowing that my garden is going to sleep is sad. It made me start thinking of things to look forward to.

1- Seeing the bulbs planted now, bloom in the spring. What will they look like? How many more do I need? What colors need to be added. Do I need more early spring or mid spring bloomers?

2- Wintersowing! I love deciding which seeds to sow. What will the plants look like? Will I want to repeat them?

3- Focusing on my houseplants and 'babies' in the basement under lights

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow Loretta - you totally left that open for Al!

I'm already covered in the decades.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm covered in the decades :0) I know Dave's :0~ but I won't give it away

Anita, I love your 1-2-3. have 1 & 3, will be adding 2 this year, looking forward to it. Love the link, too. Dax can be a hoot!

Debi (and Franklin) I can't believe you're even thinking about software if you're going to Aruba. I'll D-mail about my software.

we had an actual first frost today, not to be confused with the record breaking storm

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

No Loretta. I'm not 47 yrs.old.(Hint: check other people's posts)
Don't we have anyone in their 20s,30s,70s or 80s?

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I sometimes like to sit with my coffee and read the blogs. One of my favorites is this one http://www.thisgardenisillegal.com/ . Just like my thoughts, starting in one place and ending somewhere completely different, I follow her weblinks. This time I ended up here http://ciamc.blogspot.com/ which prompted me to google and arrive here http://www.umass.edu/nrec/snake_pit/pages/worm.html . Needless to say, it complete wigged me out.

Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Dave,
I found the other thread--I was prematurely aging you. Sorry about that!

Anita,
Thanks for all the great links--although with all the good stuff to browse and read, I'm having trouble getting any work done! I'm looking forward to hearing all about your winter sowing as it progresses. Your pictures from last year/this year are inspiring me to try it.

Loretta

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Loretta. I think you will like it.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Dave - I'll take 20's if no one else does.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I'd settle for 30's, since it hasn't been spoken for.

Ok, who wants 90's?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I feel like 90s today, does that count?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Andy, it's yours. Bad day?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Not a bad day, just a lot of up and down a ladder for 2 days.
Andy P

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

aahhh. like you've said. that's a kid's game. not fun

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

It's a kitchen cabinet painting job. You wouldn't think it was that demanding. But you have to work up in a lot of nooks and crannies. Cleaning and sanding, etc. Plus this is a big job that the happy home-owner already tried to paint.
Give me some walls, doors and window sashes, lol.
