A Visit from Another Alaskan DGer!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Alaska is a big state, but there just aren't many Alaskan DGers, though I see more and more every day! I was lucky enough to have a visit from Kiska and her DH who drove down to Seward from Palmer up in the Matanuska Valley, some 160 miles north of us. It was a real treat for me! I sent her home with a few tough perennials, and she left me a yummy pound cake. You can't beat that for a trade!

That's great! I've had a few here, the world is getting smaller.

It was sure nice to meet Kiska, and the cake was yummy! She gave me the recipe.

Yep, The Ol' Tomcat and I are heading up to Palmer next spring to buy seed potatoes and blue poppies. I'm hoping to have time to stop and see Kiska while I'm up there. Yes, Shoe, it would be nice to have our own Alaskan round up one of these days!

* Hmmm, I reckon it's better late, than never, 'ey!?! * .. (hee)

Ahh Hah! (goodie, goodie!) We finally getta good gander at a couply 'laskan DGers!
A mitey sweet shot of the three of you folks .. along with that dandy backdrop, to boot.

Sounds like it was an ideal trade. But, it jes don't seem fair none, for the two of you to keep that pound cake recipe to yourselves, tho' .. (hint, hint)

Weezengreens, I was just wondering where you had got to. Miss you on the Seed saving forum. You were the main support there, and it is just not the same.

Glad you found a fellow DG'er and glad that the trade went well. (I think you got the better end of the trade BTW) LOL

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Sorry I've been so absent lately! For one thing, we bought a new computer... actually two. DH got a laptop and I got a new desktop. Still working the bugs out. I updated my trade, but haven't posted that on a thread because I still haven't updated my want list. I really need to look through that huge seed tote of mine to see what I need! That's going to be a big job! Actually, most everything is available for SASE, and I've got a gallon bag of seeds I need to give to someone to dole out to everyone. Kim Gaither used to do that for me, but I haven't seen her here in quite awhile. Where did she go?

Weezin, I was just thinking about you to and not seeing you around much. Sounds like you had a wonderful time! Nice to see pictures of our DG friends.

Thanks, Deborah! If you get to Alaska, be sure to visit Seward and my gardens! Hey, Bernie. I can almost taste that warm chocolate! Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Happy Birthday, Weezin!

Hope you do something fun! Hey, follow Bernie's lead, bake brownies! Or maybe chocolate cake! Or, hey, isn't there some fancy dessert called "Baked Alaska"!!? That would be special and also might warm you up! (Baked?) (Heck, I don't even know what it is, just know the name!)

Happy Day to ya! And from what I remember this birthday means you are now old enough to legally buy a bottle of wine to celebrate, right you little whippersnapper? :>)

My goodness, morning_gayle. Do you have a virtual fork to go with that virtual cake? Yum! Actually, Horseshoe, I had chocolate cake for my birthday lunch. It is my 60th, so I am officially a Senior. A friend made arrangements for us to lunch at the Senior Center. We had barbecued pork sandwiches, corn, french fries and salad bar. The staff even came out to welcome me into my waning years! Yesterday I was on the old end of middle age, but now I am on the adolescent end of old age! I feel younger already! Afterward, we went over to a friend's house for coffee and chocolate cake. I'm stuffed and happy! The Ol' Tomcat is making fried chicken for supper, so I'd better slap on the snow shoes and run around the house a few times to make room!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

hah! What a great post, Weezin!

Sounds like you are having a great day. And topping it off with fried chicken!!!? My favorite! (And I imagine those Alaskan chickens are huge, like all those Alaskan veggies I see growing up your way! Wow!)

Congrats on becoming "younger". Keep smiling!

Thanks, Shoe. We postponed the chicken until tomorrow night. I'm still full after the barbecued pork and the birthday cake! I think the chicken Dennis thawed was probably from Arkansas, not Alaska. Dennis would like to raise our own fryers, but I'm afraid I'd name them all and we'd never get to eat them. Home grown fryers are much better, I know.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Thanks all for the birthday wishes for Weez.
She"s right , she probable would name the chickens. I can see it now, me cooking chicken and her asking which one was it is I'd say "it was Henry", Oh no not Henry.
Weez used to take naps with their old brood sow "Babe" when she was a little girl.
At least she doen't name fish, so I'm still OK there.
