I was cruising the forums and saw your name pop up and had to come say "hi." She's a great one, isn't she, Don? Mine is a huge tree. I keep pruning her back to the main trunk, and she keeps coming back with a vengence. She can take a fair amount of neglect and still do well. I like that best about her.

Hi Clare,I believe this is off your tree!!!
I don't get the big flushes of blooms as yours does, half dozen at a time.
But it's over 10ft tall!
As these get older lets say 5 years or more to the loose there bloom ability?

Thanks Erick.

Me too Louise, but I'll settle for 6 or 7 blooms at a time when there this big!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

That is BIG, who needs a flush when you have something like this? Thanks for sharing.

Hooks, TX

Erick,
I'm still waiting for my first ever brug bloom. It is a Golden Lady and there are several buds now - some that are 4 and 5 inches long.

Oh, the wait,wait, wait-

Hi Don! It's nice to see a baby of my mama thriving! My mama has a huge trunk now. I keep cutting back to a main frame, and every time it responds by putting on about six feet of new growth. It blooms a lot on the new growth so you might try pruning way back like I do and see if that helps with your flushes. You could also try fertilizing more often, but I hardly fertilize at all. I don't always get big flushes though. Sometimes, the little flushes are nice too -- less mess to have to clean up on the ground after the blooming is over. I thing the flowers are bigger when there are less of them. It also blooms more profusely in the cooler weather of the spring and fall. Did I ever show you this pic below? The tree branch was so heavy that it pruned itself! This hasn't happened since, and now I prune off any weak-looking branches.

This picture was taken in July after I re-landscaped a portion of the front yard. It was too lanky after the last pruning, and the blooms were too high up; so I cut it back again to a lower main frame, and it immediately shot out new growth again and is blooming, and it looks fuller this time and the blooms are lower. I like it better when it isn't too much taller than I am.

Mouth wide open! Fantastic plants and blooms. Here in Utah I doubt they would ever get that big.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Oh My Clare.I can imagine how heavy that branch was to break like that!!
I think I will cut mine way back, after the next buds open up,there at the very top, anyways time to prune to get ready to bring in for the winter.
Remember the cassia and rubbervine you sent me?
There huge, but not a flower one yet, both over 10ft tall too!
I've been feeding them bloom buster too!
This is the 3rd full summerI have had them. But I won't give up!!!
Louise.haven't seen Golden lady, please post pitures when they open.

Tropicman,

Hi Don! I hope that Cassia flowers for you soon! I didn't send you the rubbervine. That must have been someone else because I've never had one. I think I sent you some Passifloras though. Do you mean P. alata "Ruby Glow"? Your Beaumontia grandiflora is still hanging in there and in the ground now. It is still small, but maybe it will take off next year. Your epi's bloomed like crazy this year, and I love them! All the plants you've sent me over the years remind me of you!

Love those pots you got them in!!!!
I'm sure you sent me the Pandorea Jassmine vine, they call it rubber vine around here.
Beaumontia grandiflora vine, hope it takes off for you soon, just so you can tell me about the fragrance!!!!!

Louise,if you ever cut back your Golden Lady, please keep me in mind,I'm sure I have something around here we could make a trade!!!

lots of hicups today with Dave's server updates! LOL

Gorgeous tree Clare! Next time you do some pruning, can I send you postage for a cutting?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

LOL! That is a lot of My Goodness! Yeah, Dave's servers are up to some good tricks today;-D

Don, you are right I did send you that Pandorea vine. When you said "Rubber Vine," I was thinking of a different vine. Don't be afraid to prune that either. That blooms on new growth. My epi's took three years to bloom well. The first year they rooted; the second year they grew and bloomed a little; the third year they bloomed really well. I use a Bloombooster formula starting in the spring and then fertilize regularly until fall. Do you recognize this one below? It is "Padre."

Hi Calif Sue, I am really sorry, but I don't do trades or mailings of plants or seeds any longer. It just takes too much time, effort, and stress to do the whole sending-plants-in-the-mail thing. I just don't have the time or patience for it any longer. I hope you understand.

Hey Clare, good to see you here! Your PB is incredible. I remember similar WOW pics when you had CG in full bloom along side those. Just amazing. You have that special touch!

Don, I think Rosamond is even a bigger flower than Pink Beauty at least she was here. They do love to bloom. What a show!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Kell! Thanks! I was just checking out some of your Wow! pictures too. That beautiful pink that didn't make the grade! I bet that hurt to take that one out. You are too kind. I have no special touch but am just lucky to live where I do.

Hey Don that bloom is huge!! Mine has buds but it will be a week or so before it
blooms, can't wait!! It was so windy here yesterday some of my branches broke
off my angel's trumpets and of course loaded with blooms......I hope I do see some
blooms soon. Getting very impatient!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

No problem Clare, I totally understand! LOL, I am getting up the nerve to sell off some plants but dread the digging, cleaning, packing and shipping, seeds are so much easier, pop 'em in a bubble envelope, drop it on the porch mailbox and I'm done!
I'll just get some from Kell when she starts pruning, she's close by.
Then again, I need to get rid of plants, what am I thinking?!!! I shouldn't even be looking here!
Ignore all previous posts! I'm a nutcase.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks for understanding and being so nice, Sue. It does take a lot of time and effort to do it right even if you are getting paid a little something to do it. Good luck with selling your plants. You are so lucky to live near Kell! I didn't know that! LOL! I know exactly what you mean. I did lots of digging and tossing of plants this year for the first time in a long time, and it is still too crowded here.

It looks like my picture is not showing up above. I wonder if it is a server thing.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Hey Connie,Wind felt like hurricane winds here yesterday and today,I had castor leaves everywhere, blew down banana trees too!
My Isabella and HG both have buds,I hope they will open brfore the first frost comes, which I have a feeling is gonna be early this year!
Don't know why 50* feels colder in the fall than it does in the springtime.

Clare,I was thinking padre was a hot pink color, but I'm not sure.

Kell,I think I'll have to get one,I tend to like more of a bigger flower than a lot of flowers!!!
Sound like a texan huh????LOL

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Don, did I send you HG? I might have; I can't remember now. I hope those HG buds open for you. This is the right time of year for them. Let's see if I can send this picture again. It was really windy here too, and I lost some limbs here too.

Clare !!!
You do have a green thumb!!
And I'm just green with envy!!!!LOL
Here I've had these plants 6 years and not a bloom one,and yours are blooming like roman candles on a fourth of july night!!!!!
Your right about these epie's,they forgive you if you forget to water them, hardly a pest one!
And if there you, they reward with a bountiful of flowers!!!!
Yes you were the one that sent me the HG,it's about 6ft tall, and as about as wide,I have it planted in the ground, and said bloom or die your choice!!!!!!Well Its trying too!!!LOL
I wonder if I take cuttings from the mother epies and throw the mamas away I'll get some flowers!!!Naw,I couldn't do that!!!I'll just keep praying they will flower before I die!!!LOL
Thanks for posting them pictures, now I'll have something to dream about tonite!!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Clare , you are so modest. But your photos belie your modesty. LOL. Sue is a great friend of mine. I will give her a standard cutting of Rosamond/Pink Beauty. I had thought I had tossed them but I have one now flowering that has to be one or the other or the cross of the 2, Pinkmond. A very vigorous brug.

Your epis are just great. You won't believe it but I just took a late night run over a few blocks with my camera just to see if one was blooming tonight. I had walked by it this afternoon but none were open. And none were tonight though I was up on this front porch in the dark with a flashlight thinking I may be get shot. LOL

I thought it was odd how the blooms are hung but I see you have one that is very similar. But these have a real red stem and outer petals. Do you have a name for it?

I will try again tomorrow.

Clare, beautiful epis. I have 1 that has long skinny leaves? and never a bloom. I have it on a high shelf in the gh and it almost reaches the floor.

Hope the photos will post today

Thanks, Don and Kell! Don, they are actually heavy feeders and like some winter chill to bloom well. The reduced light in the winter and increased light might be a signal for them to bloom if you can duplicate it through the winter. My plants stay outside all year long and are subjected to nighttime temps in the low 40's/high 30's, and they feel the effects of the natural light decrease and increase. The hybrids bloom from April to June. The Epi oxy bloomed in July and September. You could definitely try planting some cuttings and root them, but I wouldn't throw the mama's away. It would take a couple of years for your cuttings to bloom well. I would just try hitting them with a bloombooster early and often until you see buds forming. I have you to thank for these flowers, Don! They are so bright and cheery in the spring.

Kell, you are too kind and generous as always. You such a great pal. A late night run...I'm very impressed! Don't get yourself shot! LOL! It sounds like an Epiphyllum oxypetalum. My buds were red too.

Linda, if you can post a picture, I should be able to tell.
