It blooms a lot on the new growth so you might try pruning way back like I do and see if that helps with your flushes. You could also try fertilizing more often, but I hardly fertilize at all. I don't always get big flushes though. Sometimes, the little flushes are nice too -- less mess to have to clean up on the ground after the blooming is over. I thing the flowers are bigger when there are less of them. It also blooms more profusely in the cooler weather of the spring and fall. Did I ever show you this pic below? The tree branch was so heavy that it pruned itself! This hasn't happened since, and now I prune off any weak-looking branches.
