Well, I'm back from the funeral and my butt is dragging. We left at 11am and got home at 7:30pm -long long day. It was a 45 min trip there and the same back. It was DIL's grandma who passed away and I've never in my whole life met such a delightful family. They have welcomed us in with open arms. Grandpa got up and spoke at his wife's funeral - can you imagine. I was blubbering and I've only known them for 3 yrs! After the funeral we went back to grandpa's house for a huge spread. Had fun, but now I am whipped. DIL told me she goes to the doc tomorrow to find out if she is pg...yahoo!!
defoe - those are gorgeous sweet potatoes. I have the same green ones and mine have spread all over also. Have you ever planted the ones that are pink tinged? They are beautiful with pink geraniums. Do you take cuttings of them? Oh for my funeral garb I wore a pair of black pants (which were stretch, but still tight!!) a white top with a nice looking green dressy sweater. I actually looked nice!! People show up in the darndest things, and I felt just fine.
Deanna - I found a bag of the same stuff in DS coat pocket that I was going to be nice and wash for him. I thought it was just junk and thru it out. Later I found out what it really was!! He never asked what happened to it of course!! I still have some kind of burner thing upstairs that one of the kids used (found behind the dresser....) I do need to get rid of it - wouldn't it be funny if someone else found it when I croak!!
Well CRS has hit and I am bushed, so nighty night!! (seems like a Sat night to me...)
Mary, what a wild day with the animals. You need to set up some cans and do target practice!! No bragging, but I am a crack shot. I've always loved shooting guns. I'm not good with a bow and arrow, but think I could be if I tried harder.
Darius= your bro sounds like a typical male....no more comments..LOL
M5- I am so hot in bed that I often want to strip and be naked....a sheet is enough of a cover for me. But I do use my heating pad in my chair. I've turned the furnace on 2x already - and it's only Sept!! Built myself a woodstove fire last night even.
kooger- what a family!! I could never keep up with all the cousins like you did. And how sad about the death of the 15 yr old. My greatest fear is that my children will leave this life before me. My godmother buried her husband and all her children. I always thought that was so sad.
Coffee and ...... for Tuesday, September 12th
kooger sorry about the 15 yr old in your family. Talk about a shocker.
Maria you are sounding so much better and your goodies are looking so good.
I found a recipe for a fresh apple cake that is good with or without ice cream.
MaryE you had another adventure. Doesn't sound as if you have to many boring days. Hope the neighbors horse gets better. My Dh would like the coyote story. We had a porcupine the other morning that was close to the house.
Sarv if I am remembering right you had hummingbirds. I'm still lucky and have 2 here yet. Each day I expect them to be gone.
Yes somer tell us about the cheesecake chimmichunga. Cheesecake good!
Hope nice recipe. I'll have to pick up some peaches to try it.
M5 I'm always more willing to pick up a book instead of work. Especially after a day of hard work. Which some don't think happens around here.
Dresser into wine holder. Great job! Also craft gift for a friend is good .
These are all I can remember.So Hi to everyone else and goodnight Gracie!
No word yet on the cause - I imagine he had to be taken to a larger town for an autopsy. I sure hope they saw him when they got home -since they were at the funeral in KS, it was abt a 9 hr drive home for them. They woulda got home late. When the kids were little I always peeked in on each if we were home late from something but now with only a 17 yr in the house, I check for his car and shoes, that's it.
We have big families on both sides. I'm the middle of 9, my dad was 3rd of 10 and mom was last of 12. Two of dad's sibs stayed in Holland and only mom and her oldest DB came to Canada so there's tons of first cousins across the pond. There's 40+ cousins on both mom and dad's sides. My parents had 38 grandkids. Makes for wonderful family gatherings!

M5- I am so hot in bed
Mary - keep the fires at bay..hope the horsie is getting better.
darius - borrow the fire from Mary to put a fire under that DB ....
whoever was sick, please get better quickly! Twyla, so sad for your great-niece. Hope she is doing better?
welcome to DeannaV. Always nice to meet a new coffee drinker! (I'll admit I had to stick to tea today.)
I'm feeling some better this evening...physically, at least. Still having diverticulosis problems, and am worried abt making it thru till Monday. The nurse suggested sticking to a soft diet to get me through this week. No meat, lots of easily digested food. That should help. I'm crashing soon so have a good night all.
~~~~ to everyone else, sorry, too much CRS tonight.
Laura
Meezer, I have so many drawings and scematics of the new property that I needed to make extra room in the file drawer for them. We are gaining about 4-5 students a day. It doesn't take long for the little brats to find their way back up there. Most of the ones that are staying are our serious offenders and the most time demanding. So I am sure I will have things to do. I just wont be running around as much. I do wish I could get DG on my work computer. I have been doing some job researching for the past couple of days. I am also planning on purging some of the files and that should take up sometime.
Mary, I really dont consider myself a sewing machine collector. I am just a keeper of them. LOL I have the same issue with alot of other things, hense the reason I needed that first trip to SC to take some of my stuff. Ihope all the fires are under control and out soon. So sad to know all that vegitation is lost.
I know that the horse is use to standing but it just breaks my heart knowing he is to scared to lay down when his legs and feet hurt so much. I hope that he feels much better tomorrow.
Dorothy. What a wonderful piece of history you have there. None of my machines are close to that age. A friend found a 1880 cir. peddle powered one at a yard sale for 25.00 a few years back. It had been painted bright blue. She stripped off the paint and salvaged the original paint and design. It is a piece of art in my eyes. I am sure it would be worth far more then she paid if she ever chose to get rid of it. I am sure in this city of sin if she had ALL of the extra goodies with it she could really get a high return on it. LOL I worked with a lady a few years ago that had a relative that made his living purchasing the items from abandoned storage units and then reselling the items on Ebay and at yard sales. Once he found a small suitcase that had several hand guns wrapped in towels inside. He turned them into the police and they told him all of them were gang related and used in prior shooting deaths.
Darius, you look so cute on that motorcycle. I see the biker babe is just in your blood. LOL
DH forgot to bring home my detail sander from work so no progress on the dresser today. Instead I came in sat on the couch and took a nap. Thankfully Suzie called and woke me up before dinner so I didn't sleep to long. I would be staring at the ceiling all night and really be complaining tomorrow. The air was out again at work. It got up to 91 inside my office. One of the girls that has her desk right next to a window literally had sweat running down her back. Yuck. Our weather he has been hot again. Today we broke a hundred again. Had to remind Suzie not to waste precious packing space with long sleeve shirts or jackets.
Deanna, I think that would be a perfect example of why I would never want to be "hip". Good thing he saved you the trouble of kicking him out. I am sure that you and your boys are better off.
Defoe, I was telling DH about the designer dogs and then asked how far of a drive your house would be from our new home or would it be to much of a problem to make a detour on the way. He snapped his head around so fast he pulled a muscle. LOL Now he is cursing me under his breath.
Cherie, glad that you feel well enough to be out doing things but please dont over do. You know how we all worry when one of us is down.
Vann and all the rest of you that are collecting seeds. I would to take any extra seed you have. I have never had the room to keep seeds from one year to the next so I could just throw some out. I am babying my only datura in hopes of at least one seed pod. I dont think transporting it across the country is going to work.
Daruis, just take his shoes away from him. I am sure being your brother he should suffer some of the same ills and you can just smile when they occur. You, on the other hand need to make sure your shoes are double tyed.
Defoe, those are beautiful. Will they grow in SC???? I love the contrast in colors between the two of them. I had never seen them before I went to Gettysburg last September. It is to hot and dry here they just fry in out heat. Do they flower and seed or do you take cuttings for the next year???
Kooger, oh please dont try to figure out why. You will drive yourself mad. Things happen and its heartbreaking that they have happened so many times in that family. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to them and you. I dont even want to imagine that pain. I tryed to figure out why I had to loose so many family members in such a short time and all it did was depress me to the point of not wanting to get out of bed.
Okay, I think I am caught up. I really need to get the last couple chapters of this book done before I forget what happened in the previous ones. Happy thoughts for all, and frantic ~~~~'s to everyone..
Casey
Evening everyone,
I hope that you don't mind that I'll be posting the link a bit early tonight. I haven't gotten much sleep for the last two nights and am dragging.
kooger and sarv, condolences on your losses. For the last couple of years I've been afraid that I might find my mother that way, but it has to be even more of a shock when it's just a kid! Do they have any idea how it happened?
Bonnie, glad you're nearly finished with your craft project. Did your doctor prescribe anything else to help you get rid of that cough?
Casey, yeah ---- I also meant to mention that your plans for the dresser sounded really neat! It's great that you have the imagination along with your skills at refinishing. I never would have thought of that potential use for the dresser. As to the cosmos seed, I'm sure that I'll have more than enough for you and anyone else who'd like some. Some of these plants are 7 feet tall and blooming their little heads off. Just D-mail me when you're ready for them and give me the new address and I'll send them out.
Mary, as someone else said, you sure don't get time to get bored! I feel bad for your poor neighbor. Losing one pet is awful, but one after the other can really break you down. I had an e-mail from a friend last night asking for my opinion of a cat hospital near my store. Their cat had been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, but they thought that the medication was causing major stomach upset and were thinking of having a radiation treatment done instead. They had an appointment this morning to have an ultrasound test done and it turned out that the poor little thing has lymphoma in her intestines and liver and hasn't long to live. All they can do now is get some medication that might make her comfortable and have her euthanized if that doesn't work.
Deanna, welcome! I don't remember seeing you here before (but since "I don't remember is beginning to be a mantra of mine, please forgive me if it's just my faulty memory).
Darius, glad that your brother made it there okay and I'm still waiting to see that picture of the two of you! Can't say that I ever understood the fuss guys make over cars or motorcycles.
cece, please don't overdo! As others have said, you really don't want to put yourself back in the hospital. I'm sure that once was more than enough.
V-ann, glad that you liked the bouquet. It's still on the kitchen table and still looks pretty good. Yes, finishing that repair was a large part of the reason that I didn't get much sleep last night, but then I put the thing in my bag, brought it to the store, forgot to call my customer, and dragged it back home with me. Well, at least it's done (until the NEXT time he brings it back and wants something else changed)!
Hi to sarv, Maria, ves, lauri (by the way, what the heck is a "penny ball"?), I01, Twyla (I've got to try that recipe!), Sheila, dmcd, somermoone, 9kitty, all of our MIAs and any lurkers who are out there. Here's wishing you a peaceful and restful night. I'll be back in a minute with the link to tomorrow's thread.
See you all on Wednesday's thread ----- http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/650472/
Well a quick check in before bedtime.
Casey, I think you are the one who asked about the fillers, or binders in medicines. As I understand it, there are 2 types, and I am difinitely allergic to one. The ones generic meds are made from. I understand that the drugs are mixed with things that make it a consistancy for pills to be made. I am sure that it probably is some common concoction, but I difinately avoid generic meds if I can. Mr PCP, is always writing my insurance that I can't have generics. About the sweet potato vines, they are annuals here, there were ittty bitty plants when put out the last of May. I will need to get out when the rain stops and cut them back, as they are taking over the sidewalk, the shrubs, and anything they can wrap around. About the detour here, if you take a southerly detour, it wouldn't be far out of the way. Hope the DH's whiplash heals quickly. I sure would be glad to save you a designer puppy, cause it would look so good guarding your new property.
Mary, sorry about the mix up in relatives.
Kooger I am so sorry about the 15 year old. Please share with us when you know the cause of death. It surely is not normal that someone dies so young, without some underlying cause.
Sarv, you sound like you were attired properly for the funeral. About you breaking up, I can cry at a funeral for anyone, even those I don't know. I sometimes think that I could be a professional mourner. I have the pink tinged sweet potato vine in a pot with a "purple geranium". I had never seen one, and it wasn't even in bloom, when I plopped the vine in with it, and it was so pretty a combination. Talk about dump luck!! I sort of got whiplast with your comment about being hot in bed. I thought a woman who is not ashamed to admit it!! LOL.
I01, took me awhile, but I got it, raining cats and dogs, just ship them to M5. LOL. Once my DM who worked in a school cafeteria which also employed a black janitor, opened her mouth to say it was raining N babies and pitch forks, and just about died of embarrasment. I certain have inherited that foot in mouth disease occasionally.
Darius, I second Sarv, a male, no more explanation needed.
Well, it is getting late, and I have other threads to read, so ~~~ for now, may bbl.
Oh, just had to say, I called Maria tonight and she sounds great. We hadn't talked since June, when I was there, and it was good to get caught up. She is such a lovely person, wish all of you could meet her in person. Hugs to you Maria.
Hi folks,
Been a busy day. Well not really, just this afternoon. I sat around in my jammies till lunch time, working on the computer. Was almost eating lunch when a neighbour phoned. Her husband had a car accident (totalled the car) and she needed someone to drive her to the towing compound to pick him and all the stuff in the car up. Fortunately he wasn’t hurt, although he was bruised and when I checked later this evening, he was feeling more and more sore. But he had been thoroughly checked over by medics who were passing by and stopped. Don’t quite understand what happened, but it seemed to be a big truck making a funny turn that it shouldn’t have been. (Wouldn’t have been surprised if he had been at fault, having seen often the way he drives, but it appears that he wasn’t. They are French from France and drive like the stereotypical French driver - quite aggressive.)
Did manage to get across town to pick up my Mephisto sandals after I got them home and before my students arrived. No orchestra music to pick up yet; so I didn’t try to get it.
Have spent the evening editing the Japan and Vancouver pictures which got put on hold when visitors arrived last week and transcribing some violin material on the computer for my teen-aged viola student.
Maria - you may not post a lot, but you are an important part of this thread. I look forward to hearing from you each day and I’m sure others do too.
Bonnie (or anyone), if you want some seeds, please D-mail me your address. Glad you got through your stack of paper. Those are some sweet potato vines. Mine are in a planter and MUCH smaller. On the north side of the house too; so maybe they grow slower there. Annabelle is gorgeous.
Elaine - I lost a long post in the Hosta forum this morning. Didn’t try to redo it.
Mary - what a life - yowling cats and shooting at coyotes.
Kooger - my hear goes out to you and your family. What a tragic thing to lose a 15 yr old with no obvious reason.
Dorothy - your talk about laundry makes me think there is some wet in my washer. I only put part of it into the dryer yesterday. Better look after that before I go to bed.
Sheila - sorry about your lost post. I think the Rowenta iron is German or at least European isn’t it? A German friend had one That I used quite a few years ago and it was great. But at that time it wasn’t available here. Sorry about your mattress pad warmer. Can’t say that I’ve seen them in Canada, but they ought to be sold here. I haven’t actually looked. I did experience them in New Zealand, not that we needed them because when we were there in December (2002) was their summer. Sheila, is sitting in front of the computer in my jammies all morning slow enough for you?
I want to know more about cheesecake chimichanga too, please.
Darius - glad you aren’t totally MIA.
Sarv - what you wore to the funeral sounds fine. And you are right - people wear anything these days. Hope DIL is preggers.
McCool, hope you get a good rest. Sorry to hear about your friend’s cat’s illness.
Well, I was gonna get to bed early tonight. DH is away and I tend to stay up too late. But it’s close to midnight already. Better sign off and wish you all a good night.
Ann
I found the picture of the sweet potato vine 'spilling out' of the pot.
This picture is actually TWO pots with the coleus in the right pot and three kinds of spv in the left pot. You cannot see either pot. And that hanging basket of purple petunias was dead I thought. I sheared it back and stuck it in that tree. It recovered and is blooming much better than in the beginning. The fragrance fills the whole area, it is wonderful.
Susan
=^..^=
McCool, I meant to say that I would love some of your extra seed. As if I need more of anything.
Kittymom, those petunias are gorgeous. I had saved seed for 3 years from my petunias, and this year they were little and puny. So am purchasing new seed for next year. Will be cleaning out the old dirt and filling with new everything next year. I am swearing off all hanging baskets. Maybe I need to put them in another place, but had some gorgeous red petunias, and a red geranium in baskets on the front porch, and they didn't do well at all. Since I am short, and DH tends to hang everything high, maybe that they didn't get the water they needed. Hanging from the eaves of my front porch.
Well, gotta get my mind and body in agreement that it is bedtime. My body says it is, mind says it isn't, so need to have a serious talk with the mind!!. Can't seem to shut it down some nights.
But anyway, to all, a good restful night.
Thank you, Ann and Bonnie, how nice of you for the compliments. Thank you loads
Yes, Bonnie it was wonderfu to talk with you again. it was only a short while ago I could hardly talk witjout losing my breath and cough all the time but am so much better now. Told everyone if the so much as sneeze not to knock on my door because I will not let them in :-) Just take care of your cough!!!
Bonnie get one of those long handled chrome water hose that attaches to your hose, it is just great use it a lot , you will be able to reach most any where
My petumias did notdo well this yeaR EITHER, USUALLY THE BLOOM TILL FROST, HAD TO DISPOSE OF THEM MUCH TOO SOON THOUGH THE WERE BREAUTIFUL TILL ALL THAT HEAT STARTED, IT SIMPLY BURNED THEM , LOL oops not going to write this again to late at night it is almost 1 AM here.
