Dutchman's Pipe

Hi, I'm new to this so bear with me. My grandmother has a dutchman's pipe vine, that covers the whole side of her porch. Its about 50 years old now, but she has noticed this year that its leaves are curling in an upward fashion, they are not drying out they just curl up. Does anyone know what causes this or what is going on with her plant. I don't know what variety it is. If anyone knows where i can go to find this information, i would appreciate it. Thanks. :)

Hi cheekygirl and welcome!! This sounds like aphids to me or some type of sap sucking insect.

Thanks very much for the message. Now since i failed gardening 101, hehe, what is Aphids? Sorry, really not up on the gardening stuff, i came to this site to find out about my grandmothers vine, but this is a cool site and i thik i'll stay :) If this is an insect, any recommondations on how i get rid of the little pesky pests, :)

Welcome cheekygirl. Glad to have you here at Dave's Garden.
Now to answer your question. You can use Garlic Pepper spray, which you can get at an organic nursery. It sells for $19.99 here for a quart but you dilute it with water and use a hand sprayer and just spray on any of your plants that are getting eaten by insects and see if this helps. This is what I use on all my plants. Just be sure that you spray in the cool hours of the morning. This bottle will last for quite some time. If you have any other questions will be more than willing to help you out if I can.

Hi CoCo, thanks for the advice, I'll try it. This vine as i have said is 50 years old or more, and its become a common trademark when visiting my grandma. I am sure she will be thrilled knowing that she can possibly save it. Thanks again, take care :)
