Good morning to all. Hope it's sunny and beautiful wherever you are.
Here's where we were http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/649051/
Coffee and ..... for Sunday, September 10th
big, fat, juicey worm is mine......I have the itchies sooo bad that I have been up 4 times putting anti-itch lotion on. This time I tried the hot water treatment and then ice. Oh, this is the worse it has been! And it seems to be spreading down the arm. Sure is a puzzle as to what is causing it..
Did I miss something. Kooger- you are no longer working? Last I remember you had gotten a warning for chatting. Someone let me know!!
Maria, that is scarey about someone tampering with your mail. We have a mix up here as there is another house with the exact same address. I have the postal guys email addy and I shoot off an email to him when I get someone elses mail 2 days in a row. We've had 3 times where bills didn't get to me on time and I was late then in making payments. I called the places, explained what had happened and each time they took off the late charges, but acted like they were doing me a major favor. They probably get a lot of calls with crazy reasons for not paying tho..
Darius - hope you found something to take care of the sweet attack. I have three unopened gallons of ice cream in the freezer...vanilla of course, peanut butter cup and butter pecan. There's also hot fudge sauce and caramel sauce in the frig. If you were closer, I'd scoop you up a big dish!! Also have a jug of that spray whipped topping- DGS loves that on top!
defoe-good luck on closing the pool. When are you going to start? It gives me great pleasure to look at ours all covered. Especially when the thermomater says 47 deg out right now!! Brrr- got it closed just in time. I've got the heating pad on my back....feels delightful!
Mary is your DH going to Romania for a reason or just a visit. Sounds like a long trip to me!! I watched the Tom Brokaw special on the air traffic controlers on 911 - very interesting. Must have been a frightening time for them when they discovered three planes not following the flight paths. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time. I still am astounded at the amount of planning it took to pull that off.
Hope, I hope (now does that sound silly LOL) that the kittens are growing and thriving for you. They sound like cute little buggers.
Well, the anti-itch pill is kicking in and my ice bag needs refilling, so I'll be off and try get some sleep....seems like I've been up all night- never fails as I have a busy day on Sunday
Morning al,l sun is shining but a cold wind is out there, had to put on my wooly robe while taking Samson out, only 55'
Sarv. have you been to the Dr. about that itch? If not you better get there, sounds like nothing to fool around with.
Bought a small food processer but for the life of me cannot lock it in, now I have to dend it back, grrr,
Good Morning, Sarv, sorry about the itchies, and the aborted sleep try. Hope you get some relief soon.
Maria, glad the weather "looks nice". It is overcast here, but the temps are still good.
Gotta get moving as this is take DM to church Sunday. Have to leave much earlier than when I go to my church.
Will check in when I get back. Happy Sunday to you all.
Finally had a sunny day yesterday and transplanted some daylilies. With my back, it took several sessions before I got them all.
Spent last night waiting for my nephew to call about my sister. I had talked to him earlier and he said she was getting help to go to the bathroom. It seems, before the brain surgery, she was having hallucinations last Saturday, and fell out of bed. Now they suspect a fracture in her ankle and her hip. I am furious with them. They knew she was hallucinating; why didn't they take measures against these accidents?
He was supposed to call last night around 8 o'clock and I didn't hear from him. He didn't answer at home nor with Glee's cell phone, which he has been using. I finally just broke down something awful. Since this is rare, it really frightened my husband.
I finally called the hospital and they said she was OK. Her son had merely forgotten the cell phone, and he was at the hospital. His wife works evenings and wasn't home either.
Apparently he and family are going to move into her house, which is quite large, so she won't be living alone. I don't know if this will work out. She is a very solitary person and having 2 littlle girls running around, plus a lazy and messy DIL it going to be a hard adjustment. I wish I was there.
ws - that's terrible. My mom had hallucinations after her grande mal seizure. It was awful and so scary to see her like that. Her's were attributed to morphine. I can't imagine how worried and helpless you must feel. I'm thinking of you today. Hang in there.
sarv - you musta missed my 8:31 am post yesterday. All the gory details. lol
~~~~ to everyone. I have to get going. Leaving for KS for a cousin's funeral so will be gone overnight. See? another blessing... no way I could have gone to this last week. :) I have to do MIL's hair and pills before we go so better get cracking. BIL and SIL left for her mom's in IL on Fri. and as usual, didn't mention it to us. grrrr! They are SO helpful...NOT NOT NOT! lol In their church, they wear their hair in buns and since SIL and MIL are members, she does MIL's hair and they take her to church. They refuse to take Aunt Jo so that is why DH volunteered to pick her up every Sun. and we haven't been to our own church in months. It gets old, oh well, this too shall pass. We'll be old and decrepit some day too. :)
Have a blessed Sun all. Laura
Woodspirit how sad for you, it is awful not knowing the bad or the good news about some one you love and care for, I too go to pieces when I do not know any given situation about people I so worry since I can not be with them.to see for myself.
I am sure there is a public telephone in the hospital, some think the cell phone is the only kind in existance.
Maria, what kind is your little food processer? I have trouble getting my big Cuisinart to lock sometimes, and then I start sweating, and remember it takes a good hard turn to get it in place. My little minichop doesn't seem to have that problem. But, you have to put the workbowl on just perfect, and put the blade in after it's in place. It's a counterclockwise turn to make it click into place. How frustrating.
Cloudy and overcast this morning. Should rain at some point, but thisis the second day of gray, so I wish it would just rain and get it over with. I want to go out and start collecting some seeds, so I need to get some ziplocks ready. After we go out for breakfast.
Sarv, you need to see an allergist and find out what's causing the itchies. Could be something as simple as your detergent, or even something in the air. I read that this year particulates in the air were worse than ever, and you can develop a sensitivity to something that never bothered you before. Not something to fool around with.
Maria, see if your handyman can replace the mailbox he ordered for you with one that locks, since he hasn't installed it yet, he should be able to find one, and if he can't, tell him to cancel his and you will get it instead.
WS, I hope everything is all right. People get so forgetful about other family members when there's a crisis, they think they are the only ones worrying.
Hang in there, I know this is a tough time for you, but we're here when you need us.
Darius, if I ran out of ice cream, I would have had to raid the bag of chocolate chips.
Later, time for a shower and clean clothes. ~~~~~~~ to all,
Sheila
WS how terriable for you. I hope you can get hold of him today to get more news. Please keep us updated you and all are in my thoughts and prayers.
Maria, we went through someone stealing mail here and it is frightening. They did'nt let us know they had caught the woman and had our mail untill after the trial by then it was months later and they wanted to know if we still wanted our mail....Duh..no..
Have to get moving I must transplant an entire bed since I bought a new azalea. Will post pictures later if I am still alive....
Oh I made "The Worlds Best Cookies" they are on the counter so eat up...The recipe makes a ton of them but not good for dipping....Lauri
Good morning. Pretty pre-sunrise this morning. Streaky clouds over by the fire started out gray, then turned pink, and are now silvery. The sun won't be up from behind the mountain for a few more minutes.
Yesterday's trip to Boise was about 250 miles round trip. Hubby is the President of a charitable foundation and also is a member of the missions board of this particular mission, and so he makes this trip every year to oversee the projects and people. He takes vacation time from his day to day job to make the trip. I hold down the fort (home) and take him to and from airports as needed. When he comes back he will be accompanying several college students who will be returning to their classes and will be flying into Portland, about 300 miles in the other direction. Fritz gets to go home to stay for the winter with his own kids (the students), and we will stay overnight and come home the next day since the flight comes in late in the evening and we also have some other business in the area.
Meanwhile, without hubby at home I will get a lot of yard work done! No cooking to do unless I want to, not much laundry, and no schedule!
Defoe, you should measure those tummies full of babies, it is a fun thing to do. I used a string off a hay bale to measure one of our mares. Her tummy was over 8 feet around and I was glad I did it when I did because she delivered a day or two later. It would be fun to do that while your granddaughter is there.
Maria, I had a food processor that added plastic shavings to my food when I ran it. The replacement did the same thing so then I got a refund and never got another one. You would think that they would check these things before they send them out. What ever happened to quality control?
Back later, have to get myself dressed and take Fritz out to water the bushes.
ISheila, it is the small cuisinart that also fits the base of their blender. it is like two in one since I gave my daughter my blender some time ago I thought this one would be perfect for me. I just could not click in either , it does seem to click but dows not catch.. I was getting to warm and sweaty, and tired just do not quite feel up to snuff and very cross, was ready to taake the out of doors and smash them against a rock I did everything over and over again following the directions , is seems so easy
Good Morning, it's a bright sunny morning here. Coolish right now but will warm up to 80º and thunderstorms this afternoon.
Guess that means I should get cracking on getting a gazillion plants in the ground. Or, maybe I'll just leave them in the duck pond until my brother gets here and let him do the digging. Planting by the moon says not to plant now anyway, wait until after the 12th. Which means for me, after the colonoscopy on the 13th.
I miss the Saint Paul Sunday Mornings on NPR, used to have good music. Of course, I've also missed the Texaco Saturday afternoon operas for years and years. I don't even remember why they took them off. All my stereo equipment is here and I hope my brother will help me get it set up, along with my DVD player and VCR. I don't have a stereo stand here, will have to rig up something. There are some varnished shelving boards here I took down from the pantry room.
When I talked with my brother Bobby last night, he was in Kissimmee with our youngest brother Donnie. Donnie will be in Raleigh this week while Bobby is up here so Bobby is trying to talk Donnie into renting a car and come here for the weekend. I haven't seen Donnie since our Dad died in 1992. We have a middle brother, Billy, but he shuns all of us for the most part. He's ultra right wing and we are all heathens. Haven't seen him since Dad died either.
I bought a ton of yogurt cups at the GO store (grocery outlet). I think they buy up unwanted stuff and resell it here. I got the cups on Aug. 30th but the expiration date was Sept. 3rd so I froze most of them.
Well, when I was thawing one out recently, I ate one before it was completely thawed out and it was as much fun as eating ice cream. Now I have learned that I can put one in the freezer for 1 hour (I use a timer) and it is partly frozen thoughout but NOT enough to make ice crystals, the perfect consistancy. Try it, you'll like it.
Edited to add the word NOT
This message was edited Sep 10, 2006 1:34 PM
yogart realy lasts a lot longer then experation date. I freeze it too, just plain, put ino the blender ot the inversible beater add same amount of milk and a couple of strawberry jam or whar ever I have
with blueberry jam it is also vey good., It makes a wonderful drink
Finally I can get on, now to see if I can post without timing out. Been trying for two days now. I know part of it was a problem with DG but I think I managed to get some sort of virus on my computer that was causing issues.
Defoe, what special things do you have to do for closing the pool for the winter? We use about 130.00 worth of chemicals a month during the summer. The sun and heat just zaps the stuff out of the water so fast. In the winter here we cover it and use about half the amount of chemicals then in the summer, but add a shock treatment once a month because our water is old. We haven't emptied our pool since relining it three summers ago, and before that it hadn't been emptied since 1989.
Darius, I have never seen a cushaw never mind tasted one. Squash is not a very popular veggie here. Two of the closest grocery stores to me dont even carry acorn squash in the winter other then the week before Thanksgiving.
Maria, about 4 years ago we were having a serious problem here with our mail being stolen. Everyone thought that it was young kids because our house and mailboxes were in the path of the kids walking to the elementary school. It took about 4 months and alot of stolen mail before the postal department caught three neighborhood women who were doing it. They all received 10 years in federal prison for it. I know of one couple that is still having issues from the identity theft that started from that. The whole thing really shocked our whole neighborhood. These women all had young children and husbands that made good money.
Kooger, I would never have been hired at that company. I am glad that the whole stressful experience is over for you and now its time to go on to better things.
Sarv, 47 degrees outside. Brrrrr.. We had a high of 96 yesterday and last night it only cooled off to the high 70's last night. We dont start getting below 80 until mid November during the day and the low's don't even hit jacket weather until late October early November.
Now about this itch you have. I agree with Maria that you need to go see a doctor to find out the cause. This cant be a simple thing, been going on way to long.
WS, so sorry that you are not able to be closer to help out with your sister. I know it must be hard for you. I am sure there is going to be alot of adjustments on everyone with people living together but at least she wont be alone. My parents really enjoyed having their house all to themselves after me and my brothers moved out, but moving in with my family when they couldn't care for themselves forced them to be more social and I believe it extended their lifes in a good way for everyone. I know that my children learned alot about compassion during that time and we all became so much closer.
Mary, I have the same problem with my food processor. It is just sitting out in the storage area. Couldn't find the receipt to return or exchange it and I just havent gone in there and thrown it out. I thought I had done something wrong the first time it happened but it was with every use. I just manually cut up everything now. Plan on getting a new one when we move to help with the canning a freezing of the veggie garden.
Ice Cream is required staple in this household. I dont think a day goes by that someone hasn't eaten it. I can't eat alot of it because of my Crone's disease but my kids are addicted to it.
WS, I use to eat frozen yogurt like that alot when I was pregnant. It was a great treat.
Time to get off my butt and start stripping the paint off a dresser I found by the side of the road in Tahoe. Thought DH was going to loose a socket when I had him help me lift it into the vehicle while we were there. Hey, it is solid wood, and structually in awesome shape. Has about 4 coats of various color paint on it though.
Hope all have a wonderful day, and Sarv dont forget to call and make an appointment for the doctor. Dont want you scratching your skin off in your sleep.
Casey
GM everyone!
I'm actually up and about and have nothing on the docket for today! Woohoo! I won't know how to act. DH and BIL are on their way back from Nimpo Lake, British Columbia from their fishing trip and should be pulling in late this afternoon. In the meantime, I'm having a nice cuppa and a yogurt for brekky. I've already gotten my laundry done up and the last load is in the dryer as I write this. The poochies are laying in their doggie bed. It's Sunday you know, the dogs day off :-)
I wish a wonderful Sunday for everyone. For those struggling with personal difficulties, you have my greatest sympathies. For those who are enjoying their day, what a lovely blessing.
Hugs to all, ~Babs~
Breaking news... an earthquake of 6.0 magnitude hit in the Gulf of Mexico about 250 miles SW of Tampa about 1-2 hours ago. Tsunamis are feared on the Gulf Coast.
http://baynews9.com/Home.html
I dug some more irises. One had a marker I put on that said Supreme Sultan or Dusky Challenger? LOL.
Talked very, very briefly to my sister and she sounded pretty normal. I think the effects of the brain surgery are clearing up.
Planted some foxglove seed today. I had the first ones this year and they were fabulous so I saved seed. But I saw an article in Carolina Gardener that said plants grown from saved seed were not as robust and I should buy fresh seed. We'll see.
Going back out to plant some Huechera "Palace Purple" that I got from NatureWalker and maybe dig another iris. Wonder what it will be....?
Hi folks,
I'll comment on the end of yesterday and then have lunch and read the first 17 messages on today's thread. Am just back from church where I had a Social Action committee meeting after church. Visitors went to church with me and then after coffee, went to visit another local friend for lunch. They will do dinner on their own since I have a rehearsal this evening and since DH is in the Netherlands. they have a key; so can come and go as they wish.
Might put forth some more cyber treats. Bought some McIntosh apples, but they are uncharacteristically tart. Am trying to decide just what to do with the rest of the half bushel - or maybe quarter bushel (is that a peck? I've sort of forgotten such measures that we learned in school).
I'm another who find shopping for clothing frustrating. Maybe if I'm fully successful at Weight Watchers it will improve. The bottom of me will fit into plus sizes but the top of me is another story. Never wear dresses as a result. And add no standardization of sizes and poor quality and the fact that I can sew and I'm really reluctant to buy clothing. Give me T-shirts, sweaters and pants - at least I've found a brand of pants (Northern Reflections, whhich I think are now in many US locations too) which fit me quite well.
Maria, I hope there is a solution to the mail pilfering. Is it possible for you to pick up your mail? Not convenient for sure, but might be worthwhile at least for now.
Mary - your Sedum sounds great. I just have ordinary stuff although it's starting to look pretty now. Will try to get out in the garden with the camera this afternoon if time permits. BTW. I took a picture of the salmon trout filet the other night which I had decked out with Nasturtium flowers and parsley. but it's on the camera which DH took with him. Hopefully, he won't do something foolish like leaving it in a rental car again...
Bonnie - for a moment there, I though you were taking pool lessons. LOL Hope the craft project continues to go well.
~~~ to everyone else. I'll be back after lunch to read today's messages.
Ann
Rats. I may not have my colonoscopy this week as planned. I took the new prescriptions for the pills instead of the gallon of liquid into the pharmacy today. They neglected to put a strength (comes in 2) on the scrip and of course the DR's office is closed for the weekend. I just got the scrip yesterday, when they were also closed.
The pills were to start at 8 am tomorrow, pharmacy doesn't open until 9 am, and God knows how long it will take the DR's office to straighten it out once the pharmacy calls. Besides, my drug plan won't pay for the scrips so I'll have to find $60+.
The pharmacy hasn't even filled the scrip for the liquid... some snag that they faxed to my Doc a week ago after I took the first scrip in.
Maybe I'll just skip the whole thing and take my chances with colon cancer.
Well folks, I thought you were really quiet this afternoon, but I forgot to watch the thread.
Sarv - if the itchies are keeping you up, it’s time to see the Dr. Have you tried oatmeal baths? They might help. Quite useful for Chicken Pox sufferers. Hope you were able to get back to sleep.
Sorry about the food processor, Maria. Did you ask someone else to take a look at it before sending it back? Might be worthwhile.
Woodspirit - glad you found that Glee is doing as well as can be expected. This is a very stressful time for you and you certainly have a lot of thoughts being sent your way from this list. Glad she sounded good when you talked with her.
Kooger, I guess you’ll be gone by now, but hope your trip goes well. Always some stress at funerals, but also a good chance to catch up with other relatives.
Lauri - hope your transplanting goes well. Thanks for the cookies.
Darius, the Met operas are still on - at least on some stations, but not sponsored by Texaco any more. We get them on the CBC a bit later in the season and other opera productions until they start. You might be able to listen through the Internet.
WoodSpirit - thanks for the tip about partially freezing yogurt. Generally speaking, yogurt will be good for at least a week after its best before date. We used to get it often at or just before the date at the Food Cupboard I used to run. If you have plain yogurt that you need to use quickly, try making Jello with 1 cup boiling water and about 1 ½ cups plain yogurt. Yummy. I’ve had wonderful Foxgloves that seeded themselves.
Casey - glad that you got onto DG. It was really slow on Friday and I occasionally found it a bit slow yesterday too. So it’s not just your computer. Don’t know what kind of food processor you are thinking of, but I bought myself a new Cuisenart not quite 2 years ago.
http://www.cuisinart.ca/cgi-bin/index.cgi/en/item.cgi?item_id=DLC-2011BCNC&cat=food_processors Couldn’t believe how much better it was than my early 80's vintage Cuisenart. I love it. Good luck with the paint stripping project. Take a picture and show us.
Hi Babs.
Darius - any more news on that earthquake? It hasn’t made the CBC news yet. Bummer on the prescription news. I hope you get it sorted out.
Well, I wrote all that, refreshed the screen and nobody else had written; so I guess it IS a quiet afternoon. Hope you are all happily busy.
Ann
Hi everyone - back from the shower and stuffed to the gills. Had cheesey broccoli soup and cherry chicken salad - but it was drenched with a garlicy dressing and was way too strong. Finished with cake and ice cream...good meal. This was held at a hoity toity country club - we all laughed at how the 'other half' live. Long drive tho - over and hour one way....
You all would have laughed at me. I took along a cooler filled with ice packs and meds for the itchies!!! I had this years and years ago, went to the doc several times and they couldn't find any cure. Doc said it seems things just build up in your body and then it erupts in the form of itches . I'm due for my yearly physical, so I'll ask her during that (can you tell I don't run to the doc!!)
Kooger- I went back and read about you getting the axe. Shame on them for loosing such a good employee - their loss for sure. Now you can be onto bigger and better things!
Weather got up to 59 deg- cloudy, windy and still chilly. DH said he was going to light off a couple of logs to take the chill off. I'm sitting with my heating pad, but thinking of getting a blanket to toss over my tootsies!
WS, I've purchased frozen yogurt, but when I stick mine in the freezer it turns out so hard you can't even put a spoon into it. I'll need to try your 'hour' thing... Glad to hear your sis sounds good....
An earthquake in the gulf---yikes, I'll have to keep a watch for news on it. DH is watching the travel channel now and you know men - I daresent mention turning the channel!!
Darius- did I read it right that you are taking pills instead drinking the gunk? Oh, I'd love the pills...I had a hard time chugging down all that liquid. Hope things work out for you getting the proceedure done. I have to do another in 2 yrs. I'm on the 5 yr plan as I had two precancerous polyps removed last time I had one. drat... DH refuses to have one- and I'll be the one to have problems...I'm sure... He never stresses about much and I am a stress magnet.
VI- how about a nice apple crisp with your apples....
Babs- glad to see you stopping in. I didn't get a stitch of laundry done all week, so guess what I'll be doing tomorrow....
Carat- you put chemicals in the pool in the winter?? Are you still using it then? We just shock ours good, pump the water down and put the winter cover on it. We don't add any chemicals until we open it 7 mos later.
Maria- laughed at you saying you were going to smash your food processor- you wouldn't really do that...just get yourself a new one....
Well, time to lay back and take a snooze.
Sarv, I was supposed to start the pills at 8 am tomorrow but the pharmacy can't fill the scrip until the Doc says what strength. Looks like I will have to postpone the procedure.
Yes Sarv, we have to use chemicals year round here. The water starts getting to cold about the first of Oct and we are usually able to get back in the first part of March.
Saw the news about the earthquake and thankfully other then some small shakes no effects have been felt on land. The risk of a tsunami's is all but gone now.
Vann, the one I have is a cuisineart. It is at least 5 years old now. After posting I went in and took it down from the shelf. I will clean it up and try it one more time. If I still end up with plastic shavings I am just going to throw it away. One less thing to pack and move later.
This is the dresser as I found it.
I am soooo embarrased just blame my eyes that are not as good as I want them to be. You are right Ann, I did ask my SIL why it does not click in, lol, he said because you did no put it on "ON", Just never thought of that because my old one did not have that feature and of course I did nor see it now looked for it, so I am the dummy!
Still Sarv, you shoukd see the DR. !!!
Casey, I hope they catch who ever it is stealing the mail, it is just simply disgusting,
Both my daughters stopped by today it is so great to see them now I probably won't till next weekend, they are so busy with schools and teachng, so do both my SILs
It has been the most beautiful day, very cool even had to put on a sweater, I pulled out the flowers that were from the window boxes, picked a few tomatoes, there really are not many but quite a few green romas.
Cannot get your beautiful gardens vout of my mind Sheila, showed them to my daughters, they are avid gardneres too but just flowers. . Especially your roses are out of this world..
Darius, some times nothing seems to go right, hope your health problems will be solved very soon
Bonnie and Elaine where sre you?
Here is some sour cream coffe cake with streusal filling and real maples syrup glaze, have some now or tonorrow with your coffee. Also made some Limpa bread it is in the fridge.ready for tomorrow morning to be baked
sarv, this sounds like an allergy. have you tried benedryl? and extra Vitamin C?
Maria, the sour cream coffe cake looks delish!
Maria, the mail thieves were caught a few years ago and are still in federal prison as far as I know. Lucky for us that we really dont have any paper bills. We pay either by direct withdrawal or on through internet banking. A few of our neighbors were not so lucky though.
Oh that cake looks yummy. Think I will go make a cake real fast for dessert.
Hope all have a great night. Here is the dresser after removing the first coat of paint.
Opps, guess I could have turned it before posting it. Sorry......
This message was edited Sep 10, 2006 5:41 PM
Cut me a BIG piece (and is that another of your flower arrangements Maria?) glad the puzzle of the food processor was solved....now what are you going to make in it???
Wood, I take a prescripton allergy med every morning and a benedrayl tablet at night..I just want it stopped!! I've stopped all my other vitamin stuff but may start with a vitamin C.
Guess what......teacher DIL just called me (going to her grandpa's funeral with them on Tues) anyhow she said "I failed the test" At first I didn't get it- then it dawned on me - she took a pregnancy test and a line showed up. That means a baby!!! Oh my gosh, I'll have two new grandbabies within two months!! Won't that be jolly....I'm not getting really excited until she visits the doc- she's calling him tomorrow.....
Oh Carat - I like the lines of that dresser.. are you taking it back to its natural wood? I have the hope chest my grandpa gave my grandma as a wedding present. My mom had it and painted it several times - once even using a floor paint of all things. I have stripped and sanded that thing, but there are so many little crevaces that I just cannot get all the blue paint she used out of them. I think I may have to just repaint it. I was so frustrated with the whole thing that DH put it in the top of the barn. May have to haul it out for a fall project.
Darius maybe you can just start the pills later in the day - what time is your proceedure?
I''m watching the 911 program on NBC...
Mmmmmm, think I'll pass on my brownies and have some of Maria's coffee cake instead! Maria, you are making me blush, I should have included some photos of the roses with a nasty Jap beetle sitting right in the middle of a blossom! They seem to like the climbers better than the Carpet of Flowers and Knockouts. But that 's the nature of gardening, solve one problem, discover another. Did your Valerian survive the wet weather?
Carat, the Cuisinarts are supposed to be the best but I don't think that includes plastic shards in the food. I wouldn't even attempt to use it, there is obviously some major malfunction going on. Did the work bowl get warped, like mine did when the dishwasher died? That could cause the blade to strike the side of the work bowl. You are right though, one less thing to pack.
I gave my old 80's Cuisinart to my DD, when I bought the new one. I don't think she uses it much, but I use my new one all the time. New one is SO sharp, and fast, by comparison. I love new kitchen toys. LOL
Sarv, if you don't fit the standard measurements for the majority of manufacturers, it's almost impossible to find decent clothing. Like Ann, I was very fond of the Northern Reflections pants, and sweaters. I still have some, I don't think they will ever wear out. But the company left the U.S. three or four years ago, and the only place I've seen them now is on Ebay, used. And believe me, I have no prejudices against used Northern Reflections clothing, but the selection is very limited.
BUT, in October, Hancock Fabrics is having a class on fitting patterns..and I signed up my DD and myself, it's only $5, you get the class for over 2 hours, two video tapes, an instruction manual and six free patterns. I'm pretty sure they will try to sell something ...markers, boards, or even sewing machines, but we can be pretty resistant. I have a Kenmore with not too many miles on it and a good variety of stitches, DD has a serger, and a Singer that has multliple functions as well. We don't need new sewing machines.
It did finally rain, and got very very cool. Had some leftover sweet corn from yesterday's dinner, so I made crab/corn/potato chowder and heated up a loaf of foccacia for tonight. Brownies will fill up any empty spaces later.
Also, Sarv, listen up!! If you are going to an internist or a general practitioner for your checkup, they will only ask if you ate something unusual, or if you were in contact with something different, they are not allergists! They are usually clueless about skin problems, which is why you didn't find out what it was last time. I am guessing they didn't do any scratch tests, or patches, to narrow it down. This is a long time to have an allergic reaction to something unless you are getting continually exposed. Go see a dermatologist or an allergy specialist.
Ugh, Darius, the worst part of the colonoscopy is drinking all that evil tasting stuff and being hungry for solid food. I got a good report so I'm not doing it again in five years, For crying out loud, I'll be 76, at that point, to heck with it.
Enjoy your visit with your brother and put him to work!! I'll admit I had visions of you woozy from your exam, clinging for dear life on the back of his motorcycle. I LOLed about your alienated brother thinking you are all heathens!! That's what my ex-MIL called my kids, while she trotted dutifully off to Mass every morning, and lived in my home for several years and never lifted a finger. My kids absolutely despised her, but were unfailingly polite and helpful to her. My DS used to get up and shovel snow at 5:30 in the morning so she could go to church. I think he was the better person.
WS, it sounds like your DS is doing much better. Have they decided whether she will go home right away or to a recovery place? I'm sure she would rather go home, given a choice. It will be a change for sure to have another whole family there, but there don't seem to be a lot of options.
Carat, do you have the missing drawer? Or are you planning to do a little remodeling on the dresser. Nice find. I would have picked it up too, and I don't have room for anywhere for one more piece of furniture.
Babs, a whole day off!! Did you make good use of it and do a lot of nothing? Maria recommends it! Nice that you could drop in, we miss you.
Suspect IO1 is having some quality time with her DH after having company for most of the week. My DH goes back to work tomorrow!! :-))
I know I haven't addressed everyone, but this is the best I can do tonight. Everyone else gets a ~~~~~, just wait until they try to catch up!!
I think Olivia wants her name changed....everytime I say Baby, she comes running.

M5- I have the kind of insurance where I have to go to my primary care physician first- then she will send me onto someone else - Whole lotta monkey business I think!! You're right, I went to a GP years ago too - never been to an allergist.
So, then you have to say to your PCP, "who are you going to send me to to find out what is causing this??? " and then, of course, you have to GO.
S.
yes mother..LOL...
Good girl, now you can have a brownie and some ice cream.
LOL LOL you have my number- chocolate and ice cream!!
Darius, what day is your appointment?
When I made my appointment they gave me 2 small (2 oz.bottles ) of Fleet.
My appointment was for a Thurdsay morning, so the instructions were to have no food after Tuesday night at midnight. I could have any clear liquids, such as apple juice, clear sodas, boullion, jello, just nothing red or purple.
At 3 o'clock on Wednesday, mix one of the bottles with 4 oz. water and drink it, followed by 16 oz. clear liquid. Then ( I think ) 3 more 16 ounces liquid before 7 o'clock.
At seven repeat the same with the other bottle, except after you follow the bottle with the 16 oz liquid, the directions didn't say you had to drink anymore.
Of course, no liquids after midnight anyway.
Now if your appointment is in the afternoon, there's a different time frame for taking this.
Maybe you could check with your Doc tomorrow to see if you can take the Fleet instead of the pills. I would never have had mine done if I had to drink that whole gal. of stuff.
Just a little tip..... the Fleet stuff is very salty, so if you do take it, have a wedge of orange ready and as soon as you drink it, bite into the wedge.
It helps take the taste out of your mouth.
I hope you don't have to cancel. Ginny
Sarv, and Meezer, I am more then likely going to be repainting the dresser because it is made of three different types of wood and even with a stain they wouldn't match up well. I am going to try it anyways though. Plan on using a deep cherry stain. If it doesn't work then I am going to wash it with a black wash and get a deep red/black color.
I dont have the missing drawer and really dont need it. I am not keeping it as a dresser. I am going to use it as a wine rack. I will use one of the drawer fronts as a door to a shelf where the bottom drawer is. I want to be able to hide napkins and small shot glass in there. The third drawer will come out and I will use the drawer wood to create a grid to store wine bottles. The second drawer area will be raised up an inch or so and I will build slides to hold the wine glasses. I hope to take off the top and the reattach with a piano type hinge so it can be opened for a serving area. I am using the drawers for all the building wood except the inserts that I will need in the serving area for support. I have some left over birch wood from another project for that.
I really dont have the room for this piece or for the other dresser I am going to be remodeling to use for storing all my sewing and embroidery thread. Remember I just had to drive across the country with a 17 ft moving truck to empty some of the stuff out of this house.
Tried out the processor, and it is now in the trash. I also sent an old crock pot and deep fryer to the trash with it. I guess I really dont need two of each of them.
Meez, I had to laugh at your comment of having a machine so you dont need another. I own two sergers. five sewing only machines, one embroidery only machine, one embroidery/sewing machine and a quilting machine. DH doesn't trust me to go to a store that sells machines anymore. LOL The man has no sense of adventure. I only have my big Brother Innovis' 4000D and one of the sergers here. I took the others to SC.
I also have a hard time finding clothes to fit a 40 year old woman for work. I have a 34" inseam so finding pants long enough with heels is an adventure all on its own. I wear more skirts and dresses with my blazers then anything.
Darius, I hope that you can contact your doctor and get things straightened out with those meds. And when do you have the dentist appointment????
Well I finally had to break down and buy a new iron today. I was really hoping that the old one would hang on for another few months until we moved. But as usual that is not what happened. Bought me a real nice Rowenia.
Well time for a shower and then off to lala land. Good night all. Hope everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow.
Casey
Hi y'all!
Sorry I've been MIA this week-end but have been busy ... doing what I'm not sure ... but I *have* been busy doing something! LOL Actually the DH has a big presentation coming up at work, and I've been lending him a hand. Have also done some cooking and have been really getting back into that over the week-end. We had church today, then I played in the rain! :-) Wow, I've got a *lot* of catching up to do!
sarv, so sorry you're still being plagued with those itchies. I'm one of those people who attract any sort of insect and the bites welp up on me, so I can certainly sympathize with you somewhat. It makes no difference what sort of bug spray I use ... they just keep on a munching, and I scratch until I bleed and don't even realize it. Hope you get some relief soon.
Defoe, glad you got your pool school over with and are armed with all that knowledge. :-) It seems like only yesterday you were plotting how to get it and now it's time to close it. Now hasn't it all been worth the fight! LOL How are the Mommies?
Mary, what's the news on all those fires out your way? Sure hope no one's in danger. I'm saying prayers your DH has a safe trip. Good for Fritz getting to go home and be with his family for a bit. :-)
Wood, I am so sorry to read about your sister, but am glad you were able to talk with her. Maybe it will work out ok with the family moving in with her. Things have a way of working out sometime. Maybe it's a blessing waiting to happen? :-) Do you know when you'll be going to see her?
Maria, thanks so much for asking about me. Sorry to hear about the mail theft. Hope they catch whoever's responsible. Oh, and how is that sweet Samson doing? I took a big slice of the coffee cake ... just in case you wondered who that was that cut the great big chunk out! LOL Yum yum!
Kooger, well, it sounds to me like it's good riddence with the job, but I know that's easy for me to say. Sure hope you can find something you enjoy where people respect and appreciate you.
Darius, so sorry to hear about the mix up with the RX and possibility of having the test canciled. Hmmm, maybe that's not such a bad thing! LOL
Maria, I didn't know you could do yogurt that way. In fact ... I have copied all these wonderful tips down as I *love* yogurt. Thanks!
Hi Babs ... it's so good to see you again. How is your Mum? She's still in my prayers.
Hope your DH made it in safe and had a good fishing trip.
Hi Casy ... great find on the dresser. Wish I could do stuff like that!
Woohoo sarv!!! Another baby! LOL
Okay y'all ... I'm gonna post this before it winds up in the poof pile so if I've missed anyone please forgive me and let me get by with a ~ for tonight. I hope everyone is able to get some R&R tonight and wakes up refreshed tomorrow. Oh and by the way ... I'm *real* jealous of all that nice cool weather you're having Maria and sarv!
~~~~ Elaine
Well the MIA queen is back!! It has been a long long day. Took DM to church, had nothing planned for lunch, but came home and prepared a meal. DGD after lunch announced that she needed some money, so asked if I would pay her for cleaning the house. You bet I answered. So we cleaned. She ran the vac, mopped the kitchen, 2 baths, and the entry hall, while I dusted and cleaned the 2 baths. She was selling from a catalog for a fund raiser for her school, so took her to several family members, so that she could coherce them into buying something. I hate this crap. I would just rather make a monetary donation than be robbed by these companies. Turns out, she works cheap, when I asked her how much I owed for the cleaning, she says, "all I need is $10.00". Which is a bargain. She is a dear sweet little girl.
I01, so you have been helping DH with a presentation. That is good, hope that all goes well for him. Ain't it loverly that we can add our expertise to help the DH's?
Mary, so Fritz will be going home soon? I know that you are attached to him, so it will be like you are having a vacation for awhile. Hope DH has a safe trip, and that you fare well while "holding down the fort". Mary, the foal will appear soon, as DH went out to check her this afternoon, and she is making a bag. He predicts 3 or 4 days. As for the designer puppies, I still haven't gone back to look about the date. But that even appears to be imminent. DGD wants to be notified of each event. She has already named the foal, drat can't remember, but she has a name for a female and male. Okay, I confess, got the filly part, but what the heck is a male colt called? CRS, terminal disease.
Darius, sorry about the Rx mixup. Suggest to them that you could start taking the fleet, and will get the same results. Can't see any reason why the procedure would have to be cancelled. Put that brother to work. He can probably do more in an hour than you could do in a day. Not to put us women down, but use those manly muscles while they are available.
Babs, glad to see you back. Sure hope that you had a good day doing nothing. How's your mom? I think of her often, and hope that she is doing as well as can be expected.
Wood, glad you got to talk to DS. I am sure that she is being well taken care of, but for pete's sakes, looks like the nephew would have called to let you know what was going on. Sorry to hear about her falling, hope nothing is broken.
Kooger, hope your trip goes well, I really hate that you get to have reunions at funerals.
Carat, since our pools will be closed for a longer period of time, we have to do a "Super shock", and a conditioner, plus a pool cover, lowering of the water level. It is all accomplished when the PH reaches a certain level. No chemicals added during the winter, but have to be vigilant about minimizing the freeze damage possible. Hence, plugs, pump maintenance, pump cleaner, etc, etc, etc. You know the drill, all the chemicals cost an arm and leg, but I hesitate to not do as told, for fear that I will have catostrophic damage!! The weather here is still in the mid 80's so will not be closing it for another 3-4 weeks. I still enjoy it almost on a daily basis.
M5, glad that you are doing the sewing classes. I have no desire to do anything like that. Why don't you go, learn everything you can, and come back and teach a DG class on the subject? You know what happened to Julie after reserecting her interest in embroidery, We've scarcely heard from her, don't want that happening to you. I will personally come and drag you to the computer to post!!
Maria, Don't feel like a dummy. These sophisticated machines are meant to intimidate us. Thanks for the cake, it sure was good. I took my chunk out beside the one where I01 took hers.
Sarv, why in the world don't you listen to the best friends you have ever had? You need to get the Fannie in gear, call the Doc first thing in the morning, make an appointment, or better still ask if you can get a referral to an allergist, and get there pronto. The cooler temps may help, but please have it checked. Our seasonal allergies are worse this year than in several years past. Don't know what it is, but ragweed here is the main culprit.
Viann, gosh those apples are calling to you to make a good apple crisp to sit out on the counter. Don't you just love the fall apples. I bought some Saturday at a farmers market, maily cooking apples, but DH just ate one, and he termed it a tart fall apple.
Lauriewilson, how did the new bed turn out? Gosh a new azalea, I have something that is attacking mine, and the surrounding shrubs, so don't know if they will make it through the winter or not. I am gonna post some pics over in the Garden Foes forum, to see if someone can identify. They are covered with tiny white specks of something.
Well, gotta get this body in bed. They day has been long and tough. Hope that I sleep the sleep of the dead and don't awaken til 10:00 tomorrow.
Night John Boy.
Heee,
baby horse = foal
female foal= filly
male foal = colt
You just had things turned around a leedle bit ;-))
