Does anyone know if Ostrich Ferns can be moved successfully when they go dormant in the Fall? Or, is it better to wait until Spring to dig them up and transplant? Any info about transplanting them would be helpful....Thanks :)

Moving Ostrich Ferns
Hi, I've moved them at different times during the growing season, but mostly in the spring. I don't think I've ever lost one. They are very hardy and can take quite a lot. If you wait too long in the fall, they may not have a chance to settle in before it freezes. I'd wait for a cool spell in the near future and then plant them where you want.
I had someone send me some last month. They cut back all the fronds for mailing. I watered them, and they are growing like gangbusters!
you can move this one when ever you like, just give the new plants a good soaking when you pot them or replant them, and off they go.
The only problem with moving ostrich ferns now is that they are sending out underground runners to start new plants and you risk damaging them. I was transplanting near an ostrich fern today and ran into one that hadn't surfaced yet. *sigh* I hope I didn't damage it too badly. A couple of others have already broken ground.
