Today is Labor Day and I am ready to do labor. The nights here in TN are beginning to turn cool and soon it will be time to move my tender plants and cuttings back into the GH. Have sent a lot of cuttings off to different people this summer and given some of my plants away, but will still have a full GH. Right now, it is crock full of plastic containers, unwashed pots, old seeds that need to be discarded, gardening equipment that needs to be returned to its proper place under the shed, garden tools that need to be clean and sharpened, etc. Also this yr. will have to be sprayed down with fungicide, since I had a problem with it last yr. The gravel needs to re reraked and am thinking I should rearrange the tables also. One side gets more sun than the other. A full day of labor on Labor Day. Did get rid of a bunch of dried gourds. Traded them to a woman who paints them in exchange for her painting one for me with hibiscus and hummingbirds on it.
I wish everyone a good autumn season. Liz
Gettiing GH ready for winter
Ohhh I hope it is not too hot for your ambitious project today. Labor day for me means going to get some work done at work without interuption. You do that when self employed. : )))
Hey Liz I started on my greenhouse yesterday. Grabbed all the pots inside with poor performers and dumped them in the compost pile, checking of course for anole eggs. I set aside those which want to be repotted or cut back. I have a mound of pots now that need to be cleaned and put away in the shed. Today I'll be potting up rooted cuttings and decide which plants will go to the plant trade. I'll also check and see if any ants have set up housekeeping in any of the pots. If they have, they will get repotted too. When the nights stay in the 60's I'll remove the shade cloth and empty they whole thing out, clean the polycarbonate walls inside and out. 409 does wonders. I'll spray it on and let it sit for a minute or two then take a sponge mop to it. Once they are clean I'll rinse it off with the hose and paint lavender oil in all the crevices to deter the pharoh ants. I'll also lay down a perimeter of Triazide granules around the gh and also on the inside. Ants are my biggest problem in the gh in the winter.

Anole eggs; what in the world do they look like? Also, why wouldn't you want anoles there to eat those ants? I always felt blessed when I had a little critter or two in the GH helping me keep the bugs under control.
I don't think I've ever seen an anole eat an ant except for babies which they promptly spit out. They probably taste awful being loaded up with formic acid, besides there are way too many ants for the anoles to take care of. The anoles in the greenhouse eat other bugs though. My greenhouse, except for ants is pretty bug free.
Below is a picture of an anole egg I found this morning. I put it on a popsicle stick so you could get an idea of how big it is. This egg was probably laid a few days ago since it is small and hard. When they are ready to hatch they get the size of a red grape and are kinda squishy. I buried it back in the dirt after taking pictures.
