You know, Dave, I'm a big fan of the Photos Forum, and I've thought many times that some of the pics we post on here should be there, for all to see. Great fortune to have been in the right place at the right time....and with a camera, pixie!
Daily Musings, Page Two
Thanks guys, I was lucky!
Super shots, Pixie. lovely.
Nap, I'm not shy. This thread is seen by such a small portion of the members that any 'special' pic of mine will also be posted on the Photos forum. Although some times I feel that there is more response here than there.
Maybe the bar is a little higher there.
Yesterdays Mantis 'event' lasted all day and into the night. I got some nice pics, too.
I'll only post one here. A semi-humorous one.
Early in the 'event' she caught and ate a bee, never offering a bite to her lover.

Hoo hah hah !! says the lurker. ~~ waving ~Blooms
Darn lurkers - hi Blooms. I always know you are there even if I don't say so.
Dave - so are you behind me or ahead of me with that photo.
Ya got me, Dave (not Dave). That critter looks mighty dangerous. I hope you didn't get too close.
Blooms, it's nice to know you look in now and then. I think we all do our share of lurking, lol
Andy P
Dave, why not submit that to the ID Forum. They know a lot!
Andy, it's because we're 'family'.
Al, I can't believe you didn't do that first!
Hi, Blooms ~ waving back~ (all the way from Utah! Imagine!)
Andy, you lurk? Care to say where? I used to lurk in Roses and Dahlias. No time to lurk anymore.

It's going to be a lo-o-o-o-o-o-g winter, isn't it?
Dave, where did you say you live?
Pixie, that first shot is incredible. (the other one ain't bad neither). it's not luck. the art of photography is catching those shots at the right time, framing them, etc.
Hi, Blooms. I have family in Utah.
I'm not a very good lurker. I always find I have something to say (can't even shut up my fingers LOL)
gram ~a girl~
Dave lives in Bedrock, gram.
that's one for Nancy LOL
Actually, it's a nice gated community called Jurassic Park.
Score one for Dave47!
I'm guessing that it wasn't decaffeinated, was it>???
Dave, now that's a gated community I might consider.
Pixie, I agree with gram on that - it's the eye behind the camera.
I may have said before that my roots are in the Catskills and my marriage was in the Adirondacks . My sister market farms near Mechanicville. [sells at the Troy market on Sats]
And I 'know' most of you guys from other threads too. smiling here. ~~~
Blooms
ok, I found you guys again... pardon my lack of vocabulary... what does daily musing means????
Martha, if you like earings let me know.... I make earings and let me know your favorite color... chances are I have beads on that color...
Cool, Pixie. I just got a caterpillar book. it's a wooly bear, becomes an Isabella Tiger Moth. I guess we all look at the wooly bears in the fall to see how cold the winter is going to be (or something like that), but I never knew what they 'grew up' to be.
I haven't seen any monarchs for a day or 2, but there are lots of the little clouded sulphurs. they're so pretty. they like my asters as much as I do
Blooms, I used to 'lurk' summers in the Adirondacks. my family had a camp on Raquette lake near Old Forge. the land has since been sold back to NY state under the stipulation that it be kept 'forever wild'. :-)) smilin' back at 'ya
gram ~a girl~
Nice Wooly Bear pixie
What book do you use Gram? - I usually google, but that can be a pain sometimes.
Kassia, Welcome. Musings are small rather insignificant thoughts. Things that come to you when you're comfortable and you let the mind wander.
I'm starting to see those woolly bears now. I noticed one racing across the street Saturday while walking Sidekick Sarah. Another was in the lawn near the mower I was swearing at.
Does anyone know how to 'read' the coloration on those things to predict the Winter weather?
Andy P
People believe if the Wooly Bear's brown stripe is thick, the winter weather will be mild. If it is narrow the weather will be severe.
Leave it to a "Mainer" to know that one! LOL

Anita, this is the very first time i have 'used' this book. Got it because i'm planning on doing some plantings of butterfly host plants starting next year and I need to be able to tell the 'good guys'. it's 'Caterpillars of Eastern North America' by David L Wagner. I don't remember if I checked Bookworm here or not, but it got some nice reviews at Amazon. good pics and it has moth and butterfly cats.
Pixie, the wooly bear I had a good look at had a wide dark section in the front and a narrow one in the back. Mild start and cold end, right? lol
Andy P
Andy,
Don't say that! LOL
From what I understand, they have black on the head and tail end, it's the width of the brown in the middle we need to watch for. Now i'll be chasing monarch's and wooly bears around the neighborhood!!
Keep chasing them until you find one you like ;-)
And when you find the one you like - don't let any of Andy's Mantis near it!
Does anyone know the number for the telephone "Do not call" list? I had a land line installed a while back and the telemarketers are overflowing my answering machine.
Andy P
The number is: 1-888-382-1222. You can also do it on line: www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall. I finally did it and it has cut down the number of calls exponentially!
Thank You Yankee. I used it for my old number that I later switched to my cell. The mantis must have eaten my note with the number, lol.
I'll call right away.
Andy P
Thanks Andy...
That mantis is really cute... mean but cute... I saw a picture with a mantis on another thread, can't recall which one, but anyway it was such a great collage... you guys are really good...
Nancy your cards are absolutly gorgeous... I will Dmail you soon about getting one to actually frame....
Excellent, Kassia. Thanks.
Thanks Gram - I love Amazon.
Pixie, did you feel the earth quake last night?
Andy P
no Andy, my house always quakes so i wouldn't of felt it. 4 dogs running, a cat chasing them, an 18 yr. w/his GF and buddies, and 2 grandchildren......my house ALWAYS shakes!
I didn't see as many this year. We had tons last year.
I actually bought lady bugs this year!
