Good morning to you all. Hope it's a great day.
I probably won't get a chance to check in again until late as I have to play hostess today.
Here's where we came from http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/646597/

~~~~Twyla
I'm not doing any good either, Twyla. Got a call from my nephew yesterday, and it seems my sister, Glee, who had lung cancer surgery 3 years ago, has had it metastasized. It's in her brain. She has had hell for the whole time. She had to quit work which lowered her retirement income, had the surgery and chemo but the chemo was a train wreck for her. She had always had a queasy stomach and the chemo caused her to lose so much weight . the nausea and stomach pain never went away so it was discovered that the chemo had caused an exceleration. She had back surgery 3 times and the pain in her stomach stopped but it took some time for the nausea to slow down.
We went to the beach where she keeps a large travel trailer stored, and it was pulled out to the beach. The day after we arrived, she began to have nausau and spent the entire rest of the vacation in the hospital. She hasn't had any peace since this started. She is having brain surgery Tuesday, but the doctor's say to "expect the worst but hope for the best." I have no confidence in her survival. Her son, Trey, said she looks 10 years older since I saw her last year. She weighs about 95 lbs. She was 5'5" but is now 5'3". She's 64 now.
Sorry, I need to unload my burdens a bit. It's so hard because Glee and I were never close until about 4 years ago.....
Morning - foggy and 52 deg outside, but promises to be a sunny day. I'm sitting in my lazy boy and thinking how beautiful and lush my morning glories are. These flower late in the summer and always bring a smile to my face.
Welcome back Vi- glad you arrrived home safe and sound. Now for the replay of all you did!!
Wood, I'm so sorry to hear about your DS. It so scares me that it seems cancer is everywhere. I pray a cure will be found soon. Wish the best for DS and for heavens sakes don't apologize for unloading...that's what we're here for.
Defoe- what a wild time- losing power....You sure have a huge circle of friends. I'm envious. I think you are an exception tho, but a wonderful one indeed!! And yes, we almost drained the pool -35,000 of water. Oh well, it is done and I'm smiling! Hmm, wonder what's up with the foot? Probably complaining about wearing shoes... LOL at DH dumping in chemicals. My DH never tests the water - just throws in chlorine and algae stuff. This summer was the cleanest it has been - lucky I think!!
Kooger - you haven't had 3 days off in how long??? I don't blame you for postponing the date of your surgery. Fall Fest sounds like great fun!
IO1 - love craft shows - but with a house full of that stuff, I seldom buy anything anymore - I'd get some kettle corn too along with an elephant ear!! Blow some of your warm weather up here - this is too cold too fast for me!
M5- I see a big treat in your future....I'll help you shop for it!!
Nothing big planned for today -I still need to go to Sam's to do pics
Hi folks,
Been up since 4:30 - that's what a 13 hour time change does for you. Got laundry in and suitcase unpacked - didn't even open it last night when we got home.
Wood - sorry to hear about your sister.Will hope for the best for her surgery.
More later
Ann
Betty, SO sorry to hear about Glee. Must be a big emotional pain for you. Hoping for the best for her surgery.
Kooger, I shall be hoping for the best for your surgery too.
Ann, glad you are back!
Bonnie, was there a spider in those shoes? Sounds like maybe a spider bite. On the blackberry juice... First I plan to make some blackberry savory, which I absolutely adore and can eat with every roasted pork or chicken dish I make. I may have to make a new batch of spiced vinegar first, not sure if mine got too strong in the bottles this summer. Then if there's more juice, probably jelly. I still have a little more juice to strain and then clean up the mess from Charles and Lizzie!
My DB called last night for directions. He plans to leave Jax either the 6th or the 7th depending on how he feels after his MRI, and the weather since he will be on a motorcycle. He plans to bring 5 pounds of fresh shrimp if he can get some dry ice. (He lives about 2 miles from where the shrimp boats come in.)
McCool... take it easy, get some rest. How's the DH?
Maria, you take it easy too. Throwing balls for Samson out in a drizzle isn't good for someone recovering from pneumonia.
TTYL
Good foggy morning! Sure feels like fall in the air. Fine with me, I'm sick of hot humid weather. Fall is my favorite time. That's why we got married in October, and we luckily had an absolutely gorgeous day. I'm thinking of having a bunch of friends and family over for our twentieth, which falls right between our birthdays but haven't done anything constructive about it yet.
Blackberry savory sounds delish Darius. And the kitchen does look like a slaughterhouse!! I hate the mess, but I so enjoy the results of those kinds of efforts that it's worth the clean up. How's Gracie these days? It's time for another flea treatment on ours, and I haven't seen any for at least a month so I'm optimistic that it has worked well for them. When my DS and family lived near the shrimp haulers, they used to send their well endowed daughter down to buy the shrimp because she always got the best ones!!
Talk about exploiting your children!!
As far as the car collection goes, I know there are worse things he could be doing, but I get irritated when I keep hearing, "It's an investment, I'll sell it," etc
when I know that will be a long time coming. Right now there are three vehicles we do not have garage space for, and six parked inside the garages. Puhleeeeeze!! All I'd need is some colored flags and it would look like a used car lot. OK I've vented.
As far as spending to make up for it.....after twenty years we still have separate checking accounts. He pays the mortgage and miscellaneous outdoor equipment and I take care of the food, utilities, etc. so any extra luxuries I spend money on comes out of my own funds! So, no leverage there at all!
Was sorry when Kooger called and said they postponing, but completely understand the reasons. DH was out busily cleaning up the yard, which has needed attention for a while, so I didn't tell him about it until he was done and had made a run to the recycling center with weeds and trash.
Welcome back Ann, we're looking forward to seeing pictures. There was just an article in the Trib about how expensive travel is in Japan. Was it wonderful to sleep in your own bed??
WS, my deepest sympathy for your poor sister. Sometimes it seems like the treatments just prolong the suffering and make the patient more miserable than the disease. We wish her well, and hope they can keep her comfortable and pain free. It's so hard to not be able to do anything.
IO1, the craft show sounds like fun, and yummmy kettle corn and elephant ears! What a good day. If we get any more hot weather I'll be sure to send it down to you.
Bonnie, keep an eye on that foot (that sounds strange) and make sure it doesn't look worse. My DS got a spider bite a couple years ago and it affected his whole arm, swollen and red for quite a while. They still don't know what kind of bite it was but it sure made him miserable. And you lost power during your big fish fry, Bummer!!! I know you were looking forward to having some space in the freezer and using up a lot of fish. I'm sure a good time was had by all, regardless. You have a wonderful circle of friends, and that's worth a lot. Hope you are feeling better by now.
Maria, take it easy!! Samson can wait a few days for some ball throwing, and he needs you well!!
Gotta go DH is pacing and the car is running
TTYL
Sheila
Morning everyone
DH is Cooking ME breakfast and ordered me out of the kitchen..Asked me don't you have someone on the computer you need to talk to? lol This is scary.....He pulled green peppers out, eggs, cheese, chili beans and japalenos out and I don't know. He stirs up the weirdst concoctions sometimes but they always taste good.
Woods I am so sorry to hear about your DS. I t's always so hard when its a family member...you feel so helpless and lost then you ask anyone who will listen Why? Unload all you want on me. You can even d-mail if you find youu need to Ok?
Sheila---Going to the St. Matrin Street fair???? It is simlilar to 7 Mile fair. The vendors are on both sides of the road is barred to traffic and its alot of fun. The bars and taverns along the way some will have bamds playing outside to enjoy and lots of bargains. Last year I got about 4 perennials to plant and it came to like 8.00 if I remember correctly.
DH and I were going to go tomorrow but weather channel is calling for 60% rain for tomorrow. Nope won't walk St Martins Street in the rain. We've a chance slight chance of an afternoon shower today 40% I think it said. We're going down today.
Sarv - 57 and foggy here too. Highs are supposed to 74 so we'll see if it brings rain.
Vi - welcome home.
~~~~~~~~~ing to all I didn't mention and hope everyone starts feeling better soon.
ttyl Cherie
Well, my worker hasn't shown up AGAIN. I guess he will when he needs money but I may have to take a hard line.
Meanwhile, this is my worker kitty. As you can see, she works hard with all the drywall screws!
No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.
Darius, Shame on you, you are working The Baj way too hard.........LOL
I just want to snuggle into her fat little belly. She wouldn't let me though, you know cats hate my snuggling attention.
BTW, I have cuke, zuke and that other squash thing (Table Queen) germination. After only 4 days. Still waiting on all the other Part 2 veggies to appear. http://www.georgiasupply.com/veggie119.asp
If I put my glasses on when I go outside, I'll bet I will see a lot more new seedlings. Maybe I'll do that now.
Molly
:^))))
Molly, have to laugh about wearing glasses... I just started another batch of bread now that I bought new yeast. Followed the directions, wondered at why the sponge was so thin. As I was washing up the debris, I noticed I had used the half cup measure for the flour, not the cup measure. I shoulda had my glasses on! (I did add more flour to the sponge.)
Morning y'all. Good nights sleep and woke without the nagging migraine. Off now to a local winery to help bottle 1,000 bottles of a 2004 Cabernet. No pay, but get a couple to take home. Gotta run, need that Latte from Starbucks to get the juices flowing.bbl
Hi.hubby did it again Breakfast was delish. He took the peppers and cut them in half and precooked them in the mic, The he took a can of Vegetarian chili with beans shredded cheddar, diced up jalapenos, shredded hash browns and about 8 eggs. Mixed them all together and put them in the green pepper shells. Baked them at 350 and left them about 40 min. Then sprinkled some mozarella cheese on it. I thought it sounded awful but it was very good.
I took a quick shower then came down to the computer. He's banging outside womewhere I hear the bangs butI snuck down.
Yep I'm left to clean up I don't care, though not really but I have to grouse anyway to him otherwise what would be the point?
Must go dry my hair.....maybe now that its cool actually put a little makeup. I don't during summer with humidity, Why put it on to have it melt off at its earliest convenience. bbl Cherie
Lunchtime!! Oh man was the weatherman wrong about the weather for the holiday! It was nic yesterday and even nicer today! The fog burned off and the sun has been blazing. This is a wonderful time of the year. I wandered the garden, pulled a few weeds, squirted roundup on some poison ivy that I spied and thought about a new bed I may do.
DH cut down two trees and that cleaned out an area around some trees...hmmmm He threw all the brush in the back of the trees (grrrr),but I think what I'll do is toss some Grandpa otts morning glory seeds back there and they will scramble over the brush and plant daylilies and hosta in the remaining area. I dont' want to have to bother to weed there, so I am putting in tough plants that will take a lot of neglect!
LOL Darius- loved the pic. Is that Gracie? Did you make firm plans with Brent? I find out with my own kids that I have to lay it out in black and white - especially boys. Oh no- another disaster with the bread- hope you fixed it with no problems....
I need to dig up a huge patch of daffys. They didn't bloom well this spring and I'm sure they are too crowded. Hate to do stuff like that tho.
cece - yum breakfast sounds good!! My DH often throws together the darnest things. Sometimes they turn out OK, but other times they hit the garbage. One of the things we say to each other often is 'did you use a recipe?"
bal - 1,000 bottles? Man that's a load!!! That will give you a mighty headache!!
M5- laughed at sending the well endowed daughter...some things never change do that? Your DH sure does have his share of cars!! My DH just collects other peoples junk. You'd think he was a depression kid. I think it comes from his famiy- they all do that. The kids always laugh that if you need something just come to DH barn - he'll have it. And usually he does! But my what a mess. I hope I go before him - I don't want to clean up his mess.
Well, time to hit the shower..
Whew, my arms are falling off but I finally have what might make BREAD! It's on the second rising after kneading, two more rises to go, then bake. :)
Sarv, that's my old cat Bazha. She's at least twice the size of Gracie. Gracie occupies the back porch and Bazha the front porch (when she's outside). If they see each other, like at the kitchen door, they get in a hissing contest.
Oops, Cece, not going to the St. Martin's Fair, making a side trip to Brennan's for some more of those luscious peaches before there aren't any left. Only got enough for a couple of pies, and I want to make some jam. And eat some. hahaha Eat many!!!
Sheila
Man, Sheila, I'd love to get more SC peaches if it's not too late. Could make a cobbler for my brother when he gets here. But then, I'd have to use the rest for more peach melba and I'm sick of being in the kitchen. Yeah, I know, no rest for the wicked!
Well, good afternoon all, went to church, then home, had sandwiches for lunch, and I made a pot of chili. I know it's not cold enough yet, but I just had a hankering for it. That will be tonight's fare.
The foot is less painful today, but still red and swollen. I have looked, and cannot see anything that looks like a bite. I just think it is protesting shoes, after a summer of freedom!! There is another church this afternoon, but guess what, I came home from morning church and put on pjs, so what does that tell you? This lousy cold is still hanging on, and I coughed almost all night, which didn't let me get much sleep.
Okay, somone tell me what is Kettle Corn? Maybe I have had it, and didn't know it. Is it usually carnival or festival food?
M5, laughed about you needing some colored flags!! Sometimes that is how I feel, but instead of cars, it's tractors here.
Sarv, I don't see how your pool turned out so well, with your DH just dosing it without testing. Just guess a blind hog finds an acorn sometimes.
Darius, did you get Charles and Lizzie cleaned up? Blackberries make the worst mess, and to make it worse here, I have light beige counter tops, and usually have to clorox them to get the stains out.
cece, what a treat to have DH cook for you. Even if I had to clean up, it would be a treat here.
Woodspirit, so sorry to hear about your DS. I do think the treatments prescribed are more for the benefit on the Dr, than the patient. I guess they think they are making the patient feel like they are being helped.
Hope, sorry that you didn't have a restful night, that is so frustrating.
ViAnn, welcome back, now make some time to tell us all about it.
|Molly, it is amazing the things we can see with glasses. You may have a bountiful crop that you just haven't noticed.
Bal, take it easy with the bottleing today, but please do enjoy your payment!!
~~~ to scooterbug, drop in more often, not just at bedtime.
Well, gonna go get comfy on the couch with a good book, probably won't read many pages before the book hits the floor, and my head the pillow.
BBL
Hi folks,
I've started reading over the posts from the last week. Am now through Tuesday, but have to take a break and get the rest of the laundry into the dryer, download all the pics we took while away, and get on some gum boots and examine the garden in the rain. I've not tried to comment on everything, but had to on some posts. So, here are my comments on posts through last Tuesday.
Saturday, August 26th
Babs - I’ve noticed that congestion due to colds is improved by the morning coffee. Always thought it was the moist heat and wasn’t aware of compounds within the coffee. Interesting the wealth of information available on this thread.
Kooger and all who were talking about cookbooks - which books were you showing? Did you say late 30's vintage?
Casey - there are other ways to get enough protein than from red meat if you don’t want to eat a lot of beef.
Sunday, August 27th
Casey - are Oleander allergies common? You’d have an awful time in California where the medians and edges of highways are lined with them. But if that’s the problem, I hope you are able to come to an agreement with your neighbour.
Monday, August 28th
Belated happy birthday to Cece and Carat. Hope you both had great days.
All you people who had haircuts - my Vancouver one is proving to be a good one. Must get back to my own hairdresser before it grows out too much and tell him I like it and maybe he can continue similar.
You were all talking about Ernesto and I heard on the news on the airplane yesterday that we are up to a J hurricane. Seems like there were a lot of storms while we were away. All the TV news, even CNN was in Japanese; so we’ve been in a bit of a vacuum. Still don’t know whether the rainy weather here at the moment is hurricane related. Might be.
Darius - do you have pics on your other thread of all your recent projects? I didn’t have time to watch it while we were away.
Sarv - I was on vacation and figure my weight is all out of sorts because of the 37 hour day yesterday with meals every few hours, but on Tuesday it’s back to WW. I was holding steady until before we left but had not gotten as low as I wanted to be. If you want to take some weight off, I challenge you to a weekly reporting. Gonna be a mother of the bride sometime next year which is decent motivation. Might also be able to get back into the emerald green silk suit I had made the last time I was a MOB.
Darius - did soaking your salt grinder in vinegar work. There is a cleaning product called TLC sold in Canada. Don’t know whether it’s available in US. Or get a ceramic grinder. I found one in Japan for about $15 Cdn. Dunno whether they export to NA, but there is a website. Might be only in Japanese though. Love the “gravy dipper” story.
Sheila - good news on the bird you found.
Maria - glad you were well enough to post last Monday.
Tuesday, August 29th
Sarv - the cheesy potato recipe sounds good. Will give it a try. Will left-over freeze or keep in the fridge for awhile? With just DH and me, it would take awhile to eat.
Elaine - ROTFLOL after reading your toilet cleaning instructions.
Darius - hope your counters finally came clean. Thanks for the tip on road tar. I know I’ve got a couple of stubborn spots on my car.
With various mentions of jam/jelly here and there, it makes me think I should try some crab apple jelly this year. I don’t have any trees, but I know where there are some on public land that produce large crab apples. The last time I made any was several years ago and I believed my jelly thermometer rather than jelling tests and the finished jelly was like rubber. I think I could do better. LOL
Babs - what a great idea making a collage of photos to take in to your DM. I should think she will appreciate it, but it may also help care staff to remember that she’s a real person. I sometimes think that staff in care facilities might forget the interesting lives that their patients have led.
Karen - glad to see you posting. We stopped by Bellingham to eat both going and coming from Portland a couple of weeks ago.
I'll BBL to catch up some more.
Ann
Darius, is that a little blob of Blackberry juice over there beside the bowl??? LOL
Ann - yes, the cookbook was Better Homes and Gardens from 1939. An oldie but goodie. :)
ws - so sorry to hear abt your sister. Cherish the closeness you have now.
sarv - since Mar 21, 05, the day I started. :( And it's raining again so no painting tmr. I'm going to 'nest' - bake cookies and bread maybe.
I have to tell you guys abt DS's weird experience. You know, he was gone almost all summer, working on the grain bin crew in IL so now he's making up time, playing cards and tv games with his buddies. Fri night he played almost all night - (Mom had words with him, got up at 4 am and he still wasn't home!) He told me he left the friend's house around 6 am. This is a town of 800 so it's tiny - he could drive 1.5 blocks north from the friend's house and turn west down our street 5 blocks. Or he could go .5 block south and take the 'angle' road (follows the former railroad tracks at an angle) and end up on the west side of our house. He went south and he sees a person walking down the middle of the street towards him, about 1 block down. Totally naked!! There's a small car parked just past her with a pile of clothes beside it. I asked him if he stopped - LOL - "NO", he said, rather emphatically, and turned and came home. His friend said she came past their house, yelling. Someone called the cops but she disappeared before they got to town. So far, no one knows who she is!! Bizarre or what?
dfc - kettle corn is very popular here. A friend makes it at all sorts of functions. He built a large cooker on wheels. The main difference is the sugar in the mix. It makes it delicious! His kettle runs on propane and he throws in the sugar at a certain point in the popping process. Yum! Yum!
I was a dummy and started reading a book at 12:15 am and finished it at 4:15 am. Dummy, dummy, dummy, dummy! Years ago I could get away with that all the time, now, I feel tired all day. grr! dummy me! Old habits are hard to break.
Time to go do something. Have a good aft and eve all!
LOOKS SCRUMPTIOUS!!
Yeah, I just hope it tastes good. Half WW and half bread flour. Still to hot to cut a slice and slather with butter, LOL.
looks wonderful, Darius! I still bake my bread usually two kinds regular white bread and sweet Irish soda bread,
As a novice bread baker, I will take ALL accolades!
Maria, what is sweet Irish soda bread?
It is a recipe that was give to my daughter when she was in Ireland, the lady who runs a B&B where Cynthia stayed gave it to her.
kooger- maybe the naked person walking the streets was sleep walking. I've never known anyone who sleep walks, but you know it was on the news a while back that people who take certain meds were sleep walking and doing all kinds of crazy things in their sleep.
I havent been keeping up with this thread in the past few weeks, but have been trying to read through some of your posts today. We've been really busy with the kids back in school, and just life in general. We are supposed to go to DMIL's house for a cookout this afternoon and DH is stalling. I will have to peel him off the recliner eventually and insist that we go. Tomorrow I am off work and DH is not so I will have to go to my side of the family's function with just the kids (which is fine cause he is always ready to leave anyway) LOL!
Went outside and pulled some long overdue weeds from the bed and hammered down a little "mock" pickett fence I got at Lowe's. Very Cute if I do say so myself. I planted some pumpkin seeds last weekend and they are already about two inches tall. We are attempting to grow our own Jack O Lanterns this year for Halloween. That was actually my 7 year old son's idea. I thought it would be really fun so we are going to give it a try. I have never grown pumpkin before so I hope I have done it correctly so far.
Will check back in later, baby just woke up from nap time.
Katy
Sheila, I think I have MOST of the blackberry juice stains off my counters, stove, cabinets, microwave, etc. but will have to bleach them later. Also have ALL the seeds/pulp in a garbage bag, and the bag in the back of the truck for a dump run! Didn't think there was enough good stuff to be worth putting in the compost pile.
Kitchen needs a thorough scrubbing, but do I do it before my brother comes, or after? He's as messy a cook as I am. But the last few years, he's gotten into grilling and smoking. Maybe he will put my unused smoker together. I love shrimp smoked on the grill.
BBL
So, what's the recipe, Maria?
lol, Darius, it is a state secret.....NOT
Just teasing Darius, will get back later about Recipe.OK?
Bread looks excellent....I'll take the heel off one of the bread pan loaves with a good slather of butter, thank you. I think bread making is one of the most satisfying things you can create in the kitchen....all the way through, the smell of the yeast, the feel of the dough as you knead it, and the beautiful golden brown loaves hot out of the oven at the end. A favorite winter meal is beef vegetable or chicken soup and fresh hot bread.
Darn! Now I'm hungry.
S.
More catching up on previous posts -
Wednesday, August 30th
Laura - what do you can apples in - a sugar syrup or other? Boiling water bath?
Maria - the baking looked scrumptious on Wednesday but O hope you didn’t overdo things. Glad to hear you felt like baking though.
ves522 - do you freeze your apples for pies? If not, what do you use them for? We get a lot of McIntosh around here and they are cheap to buy at this time of year.
Mary - could your older house cat who has been peeing in the wrong places be diabetic? My last cat was diabetic and for awhile until we got her diagnosed, she was peeing around rather than in her box.
Hi Larkie. Hope you post a bunch more.
Thursday, August 31st
Just found this which I posted on the Wednesday thread. I think I got the thread from the wrong day, so don’t know how many of you saw it.
Hi folks,
9:30 in the morning here on September 1. That makes it about 8:30 pm on the 31st back home.
Last day here. Shopping day. Conference sessions end around noon but DH has a meeting in the afternoon. Then we are going for Sushi with Japanese friends. Am meeting with other Canadian friends (from Calgary and Ottawa) to go shopping soon and with others (two Germans) for lunch.
Yesterday morning was Japanese cultural day where we learned about tea ceremony, did some flower arrangement with guidance and got dressed up in Kimonos. Hard to breathe in them and most of us had to fit into the sandals for men because our feet hung so far over the end of the ladies' ones they had. A bit of a challenge dealing with us large western women.
I've got some pics that I'll post when we get home. This is, most likely, the last time I'll be able to post anything until we get to Vancouver airport. We have to kill about 5 hours there. DD will have the parents and grandmother of DSIL to be visiting; so unless we take a taxi and meet them just for lunch we won't see her.
Still haven't had time to read much of anything - that will have to wait till I return.
Bonnie, good to see you back. Sorry you were sick but hope the meds are fixing you up. Also hope DH is healing well. All in all, it sounds as though he could have injured himself even worse, but I’m sorry it had to happen at all.
Darius - how many loaves of bread did you make that the kneading is so intensive? I make a regular batch of 4 loaves every couple of weeks. Used to make 6 loaves until I built the new kitchen and couldn’t fins an oven large enough to fit 6 bread pans w/o one having the imprint of the light bulb. Glad you caught the smoldering towel before you had charred bread. Your rising problem could have been old yeast. But sometimes, even with the same recipe, the bread doesn’t rise as well as other times. I make all of mine now with the quick rising yeast that you can mix right in with everything else and just add hot liquid. I buy it in a large package and keep it in the fridge once opened. Sometimes proofing the bread in the microwave (about 10 minutes on the lowest power available) helps get the rising started really well.
Friday, September 1st
Sarv - sorry to hear that the itchies were still bothering you on Friday. Have they settled down? If not, have you seen a Dr?
Elaine IO1 - sorry I missed your birthday and sure hope it was a great day. Starting to celebrate early was a great idea and I hope you’re still celebrating.
Cherie - sorry to hear about your headache. Hope it hasn’t recurred.
---------------------------------
Well, I got through Friday. It’s now about 4pm here in Ottawa. That’s 5 am Monday Japan time. One of the best times for sleeping and I’m thinking maybe I need a wee nap before continuing.
BBL
Ann
Ann - I used the light sugar syrup - same as for canning peaches and pears. They really are delicious! Sprinkled them with a little cinnamon before eating.
darius - I forgot to mention, just came in from staking down four black currant stems so they'll make babies. I don't know if it will work this late in the summer - may have to leave them there till spring. An experiment... :)
Well, I did do the book/couch thing, and it sure was good!!
Darius, the bread looks wonderful, I will take the heel off the other end of the loaf that M5 cut, and please plenty of real butter.
Maria, that Iris soda bread sounds good, care to share the recipe? So how are you feeling?
Viann, I would like to know the history of the tea ceremony. It sounds like you had a good vacation. Bet it was weird not being able to keep up with the news.
kooger, that person could have been on drugs, and was halucinating?
katym, Hope the pumpkin experiment takes, but it seems like they won't have time to make pumpkins. Hope I am wrong.
Well, it is almost time to go to church, so have to go get dressed. BBL
Hi everyone - day is winding down and I haven't done much of anything - but it is a day of rest and that was what I was doing!!
Gosh Vi - making all those comments!! LOL I make the potatoes when we are having people over - it is way too much for 2 people and since you are using frozen hash browns thawed, I don't think refreezing would be a good idea. But just half the recipe!! No I haven't been to the Dr. I am one of those people who only go when they are dying....this is just a minor bother. I have a high pain tolerance, so I muddle thru.
Darius - I want the butt off a loaf too, but I will slather on peanut butter (LOL oz) They sure look good. Tell us when you sample them. Did you ever hear from Brent? Maybe the smell of fresh bread will lure him over.
Maria- how ya feeling? What naughty things has Samson been doing?
Kat - your DH must be related to Defoe's and mine. Could there be trio of DH like them? We had our gala yesterday and today seems so boring. I could come in DH place!
