Disturbing

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

I was doing some research on acephate (Orthene) and found this study.
I found it disturbing they fed it to beagle dogs or any dogs. Isn't experimenting on rats conclusive enough?

I think a Fertilizer/Insecticide Forum would help us be more informed when we do select products.
What do you think of this idea?

Fly_girl, Are these trials still ongoing? It appears the document was for 1985. By inference, you could anticipate what might happen to your favorite puppy if he loves to graze daily in a consistently treated area of the garden for 2 years

I don't know, I e-mailed Valent the manufacturer, asking about it.

If they don't get back to me I'll give them a call.

I think if the rats die that's a good enough indicator that my pets could do the same.

Yep... that's a big enough clue!

I thought maybe they stopped their trials on dogs, but found this

Here's a study done in 1998 on dogs, rabbits and rats with the insecticide Danitol

I'm just looking under Valent USA products

fly_girl, very interesting,...very interesrting indeed!!

Some countries require that toxicity testing be done on more than one mammal and specifically on one "non-rodent" mammal. I'm not sure of the US laws, but if the company is shipping to any of the countries requiring the additional testing, well...

I don't understand why the testing has to be done on non-rodents but it looks like our own EPA requires testing on non-rodent animals.

Here's a site where we can try to do something about it.

Most likely the only way it will change is if enough people boycott the product and the manufacturer's testing methods.

Many greyhounds that are "retired" from racing and don't get adopted end up in those testing labs. With the inevitable results.

aaaawwwww, it's not right.
