I have a dozen trees in my backyard, and a couple of the places where I want to plant have tree roots either poking out or not far underground. Anything I can plant in those areas? I'd rather they not stay bare. I've already decided I need to plant a new peony elsewhere because I'm afraid the tree root might steal nutrients from it.
Tree roots
I'm trying some wild violets underneath mine where the tree roots are on the surface. It will be awhile before I'll know if they will survive and I just plant them out a few days ago. I've also dotted rain lily bulbs here and there as well and they do just fine.
