Coffee and .... for Wednesday, August 30th

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Just want to say good night every one and thanks again, The new Dyson is still in the box, wi;; not restle with it too tirering, besides I do not follow directions, they don;t explain the way I want them too, LOL.

Feel soo much better tonight but am still wide awake, I envy Samson the way he just folds up and sleeps till tomorow morning when he decides to wake ME up ::-))

Had such a nice visit with MDD, we had a soothing drink and proscitutto panino on crackers. She was so pleased with the way I have recovered except for the cough that starts at times but no where near as bad as the non stop pace I had to suffer through.

With all that rain we had , the lawn looks like a hayfield, where ever is he who is suppose to cut the grass.? It was such a nice day today, just peerfect for doing that. Some times I wish my husband would have let me to use the tractor to cut the grass but it was always a big NO, he even had a fit when I first bought a food processor afraid I would cut myself, would you believe that?

Have been watchung TV all evening, does anyone watch 'The Closer' ? I think it is one of the better dramas on TV.

Well better get to bed now it is getting late, see you tomorrow though it is that here already

Howdy Folks,

I'm back from seeing Mum and having supper with DH. What a lovely evening we had. Mum was doing pretty well considering. She was giggling and swapping stories about being a newly wed with her roommate. It was really cute.

The roommate related being in a "writing relationship" for two years with her DH. They met during the war while he was in Chicago and he asked her if she would still be in Chicago in 2 years after he returned from the war. So they wrote to each other for two years and when he came back, they married. She said since it was 1946, there was no material available, (everything had gone into the war effort) or any ready made wedding dresses so her mother took a linen table cloth and some lace doilies and made her wedding dress for her out of it. She said she was also a bridesmaid 5 times over and used the same dress that she was married in for each of her 5 sisters weddings. Now, that's getting your $15.00 worth out of a dress, I'll tell ya! Ha!

I'm including a photo I found of my Mum and Dad on their wedding day. As you can see, Mum had her hair "fluffed up" and her heels on. Between the "big hair" and her heels she was a whopping 4' 10" next to my 5' 11" Da. My Auntie Nova made the dress from material her Mum had left over on a bolt in the back of her dressmakers shop. Mum was a domestic (she had been in an orphanage prior to being hired as a domestic) when my Da married her. She was working for a banker and his family. She cooked, cleaned and did the laundry as well as watched after their two children. Mum was never very big, but she weighed a whopping 98 lbs when Da married her. Can you imagine her giving birth to 3 babies all over 7 lbs each?!?

I just love hearing the old stories. I can't imagine how anyone could say they can't stand older people. I find them endlessly fascinating and I believe they are truly "The Greatest Generation".

Have a good evening everyone! Hugs to all, ~Babs~

What a GREAT picture.....

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi folks,

9:30 in the morning here on September 1. That makes it about 8:30 pm on the 31st back home.

Last day here. Shopping day. Conference sessions end around noon but DH has a meeting n the afternoon. Then we are going for Sushi with Japanese friends. Am meeting with another Canadian friend (from Calgary) to go shopping soon and with others (two Germans) for lunch.

Yesterday morning was Japanese cultural day where we learned about tea ceremony, did some flower arrangement with guidance and got dressed up in Kimonas. Hard to breathe in them and most of us had to fit into the sandals for men because our feet hung so far over the end of the ladies' ones they had. A bit of a challenge dealing with us large western women.

I've got some pics that I'll post when we get home. This is, most likely, the last time I'll be able to post anything until we get to Vancouver airport. We have to kill about 5 hours there. DD will have the parents and grandmother of DSIL to be visiting; so unless we take a taxi and meet them just for lunch we won't see her.

Still haven't had time to read much of anything - that will have to wait till I return.

Ann
