Originally I tried that but I got so many hits. I was having trouble finding what I wanted. This spring I planted a windbreak of 20 Leland Cypress and a hedge of 10 Hollies. The Hollies had timed release fertilizer in the pots and were watered in with Mircle Grow. The Cypress was watered in with Mircle Grow. I was wondering if I could/should fertilize these before fall and should I use Messinger or Super Thrive with my fertilizer. Some people use both??. My husband brought a bag of HollyTone fertilizer. These plants seem to be doing well and I wouldn't want to damage them by overkill. But since both are being planted to provide privacy the more growth the better. Any suggestions are appreciated.

don't add any more fertlizer until next May! Most shrubs and small trees don't need fertilizer for the first year if they are planted in properly amended soil.

You will stimulate the plant to produce lots of tender new growth at the expense of ROOTS. Roots are what gets the plant through the winter, not leaves.
