Good morning everyone,
I hope that today brings all of your fondest wishes to fruition. (If not, I hope that it's at least a very enjoyable day!)
Here's where we were http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/642886/

Darius hope your knee is healing up no infection.
Have good thursday all.
~~~~Twyla
Thanks, Twyla. Moby brought a whole flat of them to IA RU and it's been fun watching my first dat. It's certainly taller than I thought it would get. I gave one to a coworker and his is abt 6 ft tall! I didn't fertilize at all and mine is abt 5 ft tall. The colour and scent are amazing. Very intense.
It's procedure day so I am up and too antsy to fall back sleep. I'll play some games to while away a few hours. Have a good day everyone!
Hi all,
Got storms last night so I've been up since 2am. Just turned computer back on about a half hour ago. Waiting til the thunder and lightening stopped now its starting again. The loud boom that woke me up also cut our electricity for about a minute so I got to run around re-doing clocks. Cable's out so DGB is not having a noggins afternoon. She likes Moose A. Moose.
Went out and checked the rain gauge and we got just a tad under 2 inches. So I don't have to water even the pots and baskets today. Scattered storms throughout today, tomight, tomorrow day and night and Saturday morning.
Thunder is getting bad again and lightening is lighting up the backyard. I'm shutting down again. Hope everyone has a good morning. BBL ~~bye Cherie
Morning everyone = I am so groggy, I can barely think!! Slept fitfully last night- had storms rolls thru like a few of you. Thunder, lightning, rain....had to get up and unplug the computer and shut the windows. I don't even have enough oomph to take a garden walk.
I need to be off in an hour for coffee with the girls - I'd love to skip it, but then I know I'd regret it later. Afternoon is taking MIL for blood work - sure hope she is in a good mood and not crabby and complaining.
On my trip we went thru many towns on the water - and saw lush lush gardens. Makes me want to start mine over and fertilize the heck out of them...I've never seen such petunias! My big pots got aphids off and on all summer and look pretty pitiful!
Well, the bathroom is calling - my system gets all outta whack when I am traveling- gonna take a book with me!!
Weather gal just said they had baseball size hail just south of us!! Yikes!!
Good Morning everybody, slept well last night. Evidently Mr. B had a party last night, his large toy basket is emptied and toys are in every room. Don't know if he had guests, or if this is all his work. At any rate he kept the noise level down, and didn't disturb me!!
First order of business this morning is going to get a haircut. Then I have some corn to freeze, laundry, and preparations packing for my departure on Saturday.So it will be a busy day.
The scratchy throat, runny nose, sneezing, etc is still with me. Have been taking Airborne, Vit C, doesn't feel as bad as last night. Hope it is a minor problem by Saturday.
Well, gotta scoot out of here. Please have a pleasant day, yeah for those who got rain, but no hail here please!
BBL
Storm is over but still gloomy, I realy need to make sure my glasses are on when I read that dang gauge. It wasn't a tad under two inches It was a tad under an inch. When the rain stopped I went out again and its at 1.5 now. I don't like this getting older and my eyesight needing glasses to read anything.
Walked out by the pond and there were the two frogs again. Maybe they come back at night? I don't know. Have only seen them once aweek ago when we first got the pond set up. Who knows.
Darius don't be trying that drywall yourself! My DS#1 is a drywaller by trade. In fact at 23 he is the foreman with a crew of 7 men. He won't attepmt it by himself. I get from reading this thread all summer that you are super woman but lets not try okay???Too bad that your helper can't work after school. But I guess I understand his moms reasonings.
Vess522 hasn't been in in awhile hope everything is alright. Maybe busy with her bomb site as she always calls it. Or she's found the secret to becoming unlazy which I still haven't done. i still have a burning bush that needs to get a new home when I figure out where thats to be. I know where I'd like to put it but that would require DH's cooperation and a couple morebushes. K-Mart here has nice size ones for 5 bucks. I could get three more for under twenty bucks but convincing him that that stretch between the two beds out fron needs to have the shrubs there because it so hard to mow it is going to require drastic measures. I'll have to get him drunk tomorrow night ply him with lots of Bud light, he'll agree then, I hope.
CRS set in so I have to go back and read the last of yesterdays thread. ~~~~~to everyone bl
Cherie
Morning All... I can't make myself say "good" morning, LOL. I woke up in a bad mood which was made worse by a phone call from my Doc... Yet ANOTHER trip to TN tomorrow to see a dermatologist about the skin lesions on my back. That will make over 800 miles (4 trips) in 13 days, with more doctor visits and tests yet to go.
I think my next door neighbor might take me when I have to go for the colonoscopy, she works 2 days a week and only works because she's bored with retirement.
Cherie, I have NO intention of lifting any drywall again, esp. over my head! I might do the drywall screws myself as I'm fussy about screw pops and my drywall screw gun is touchy. Probably because it's old and I cannot justify a new one.
I forgot (I think) to tell you I could have seen a dentist yesterday if I hadn't been in TN for tests. Message on my machine about a cancellation. Antibiotics are all gone, tooth keeping me aware it still has problems. WHY is everything falling apart all at once?
BBL
Morning everyone
Well, we are suppose to have rain today ... but no thanks on that hell! We need the water but I can do without all that other stuff. Of course it *would* rain now that the DH has cleaned all my carpets. LOL The baby is good to stand there and wait to be dried off, though, so I'll just have to dry her feet!
Twyla, my blooms are white on my brug. I can hardly wait for them to open. I've been calling them blooms, but I guess they're really buds. These are suppose to be fragrant, aren't they? This was a gift from a sweet DG friend. I had never even heard of it before. I get compliments on it from my neighbors all the time. :-)
Cece that's great about seeing the little frogs again. If you need some more let me know and I can sure send you some! LOL Glad you're ok after that weather came through.
Defoe, sounds like Mr B had himself one fine party last night. :-) Take care of yourself and don't work too hard. We want you to have a good time on your trip!
Everyone was asking about Maria yesterday. I got a personal Email from her and wanted y'all to know. She was still feeling bum yesterday and said she didn't like to post when she felt bad cause she didn't like to complain. I told her to just pop in if she felt up to it and let us know she was alive so we wouldn't worry. Maybe she'll feel like saying hi today.
Okay, will just ~ to everyone else for now. I'm going to find something to get into ... and it won't be housework!
~Elaine~
To whoever asked about my arm ... it's so so much better ... and bless you for asking. I know how Maria feels. When you hurt it's all consuming. I was getting very depressed. It's wonderful not to hurt! :-)
I should take Maria's stance and not post complaints!
Hope she's feeling better.
Darius 800 miles in 13 days to a dr.? Oh Darius I do feel for you. And its a darn about the dentist and you weren't there to get the message. My thoughts are with you dear girl. Take care of yourself okay? Did you get the tetanus?
101 I've never seen a brug either except on pictures posted. Do they get big like shrubs or how do they bbehave? Like my weather if they llike yours?
edited to say: posted st the same time. you can't do that Darius......whats the sense of feeling bad if you can't complain about it to your peers.
This message was edited Aug 24, 2006 9:33 AM
Nope, no tetanus shot, but no infection on the knee either. I wish I was smart enough to keep a list of what shots I get and in what year... and keep the list in a place I can find it. I may even be current on tetanus booster but don't really know. Moved too many times, too many doctors. I think my pneumonia shot was a once only thing, and I won't take the flu shots because I'm sure they will give me the flu. Besides, they don't protect from all flu bugs.
Cherie, you can grow brugmansias but will have to bring them inside for winter. I overwintered mine in the cool basement. Some are VERY fragrant, some have little fragrance. They are heavy feeders if you want blooms, and there are a bunch of colors available.
They sound heavenly...........maybe once I talk DH into that greenhouse. In a couple years lol
Good luck heading off the whatever bug, Bonnie! Sometimes if you catch it early it can prevent a major episode.
Yup, I was up and down all night too, DH fell asleep in his recliner and when the big boomer rolled through I turned off the computer and went back to bed. Storms kept rolling through with thunder and lightening, I thought at one point it sounded like hail but I wasn't curious enough to dump the cats off me and go find out. I'm sure my gardens sucked up that rain water with great joy. Supposed to keep up through the weekend. Should help with pulling out some of the queen anne's lace that has grown up through the artemesia in the side garden! I'm thinkin' it might be a good time to pull up the artemesia too as it spreads like weeds and needs a good thinning out.
V'ann's vacation so far sounds like more work than a full time job! Now, start slowing down, Ann, so your system won't go into shock when you actually relax for a few days. I can just see you now....relaxing?....with your fingers flying on your latest needlework project....!
Congrats on the budding/blooming brugs. I have one that I got at the RU, but nothing like buds on it yet. I think I will winter it in the garage downstairs, as it is partially kept temperate as it is part of the basement. We can heat it but I close the vents because DH hasn't done anything about the gaps under the doors. Where the mice and voles come in. No sense in giving them a spa for the winter.
Have to get out on the road and go feed the grandcats, didn't go yesterday because I loaded them up good on Tuesday. They'll be glad to see me today, except Max who will have nothing to do with me.
Mary, our kids have a romp every night, we call it the ten o'clock crazies, racing around leaping and chasing, seems to be a cat custom everywhere. Only takes one to start it, and it goes on for at least a half hour....then they are happy to retire. There is an occasional middle of the night spree, but that's less predictable.
Darius, more tests! You will not have an unscrutinized inch on your body by the time you are done. What a shame you missed the dental because you were on the road. Sometimes you just can't seem to catch a break.
No laundry done yet. No inspiration. No problem . It will still be there when I get around to it. I took a short nap this morning trying to catch up on what I missed last night. Hasn't worked well, I still feel like I'm in a fog.
Catch up later, duty calls.
Sheila
M5... if you cut the queen anne's lace, put it in a vase of water with some food coloring in it, it makes a lovely cut flower as it sucks up the colored water. Try red or yellow. or a mix.
And you are right, there shouldn't be an uninspected inch on my body when they are through... except no brain scans. I think I still have that working (mostly)!
I need to attack the laundry monster also. I have half a tub full of just dish cloths from all my canning messes, not to mention my pile of personal clothing, towels, sheets, etc. I need to check the weather forecast for rain since I have only a clothesline and no dryer. Too much to microwave, LOL.
I've been thinking about a nap myself. Tried once when I shut the computer down but I'm up, I've got coffee. I'm good to go.
Sun is out now. But the weather map showed a storm in Northwestern WI that they expect to move Southeast and be in our area about mid-afternoon. Possibly severe. I do wish they wouldn't use those two words together. I am a big baby with Severe thunderstorm Warnings and Tornado WATCHES... I think I see them everywhere. DH sits outside gives me blow by blow updates. You know things like there went the tree on the corner.........there goes Jenny's trsh can.......Here comes heavier rain.....oh d%$%^% there goes Jenny and she's not walking. Anything to get my mind off the storm. Tornado siren goes off and people are in the basement.....everyone but DH once again he's waiting to see one he claims never had seen one. I have tooooooooo many. When we lived in TX I had my fill at 10 years old.
How did I get on that? Srry peeps. I'll close my mouth now so to speak.
Well, the hair cut is a good one, when I got home DH had the corn shucked, silked, and ready to start on. It is on blanching now, so will tackle it just as soon as I post. Have done some dusting, and plan to run the vac. 1 load of laundry is in the dryer, and one in the washer, with another one to go. Looks like it is gonna be a long day, and hopefully a productive one.
~~~~as I scoot to the kitchen.
BBL
McCool thanks for the hi & by as I am a lurker much more than anything else.
Defoecat as to a compliment from by DH if I can an 'its okay' thats a compliment, I guess. To me it seems like a 'it'll do',
Darius, ditto on the trips to the doctors, way too many.
You are very wise on not getting the flu shots.
Am at work, trying to take a lunch break, but as I'm here alone for the moment, the phone & the radio keep interrupting me. Did get out yesterday evening and cut back wave petunias in the front that had quit blooming. The ones in a brick planter had stopped blooming earlier, cut them back & they are full again. Had a couple in 12-16'" pots and they have not done a lot this year. Think I'll just put them in the ground from now on. They have done so much better.
& my cannas are taller than the eaves of the house. Never seen them that tall before.
Back to work~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm back from my busy morning and my eyes are just little slits = I think I may have to have a nap before dinner!!
Went to coffee at the McMansion today - gosh, it really is lovely and I'm happy for her (green for me tho LOL) She is a penny pincher at heart and did all the landscaping herself and asked my opinion. She planted everything too close to her house and her beds were way to narrow in relation to her huge house. She took all my suggestions gracefully and thanked me over and over. Her choices in bushes/flowers/trees was very nice tho.
Oh get this...her even richer neighbor didn't like to look out the window and see their new house, so asked if she could landscape between their houses. Man, you should see what their gardener put in! We laughed at that one!!! Lucky her. It's drop dead gorgeous...
nuts, I'm trying to send a pic and it won't go thru - BBL when I figure it out AGAIN
Hello everyone. Yesterday and last night we had pretty strong winds and today it is calm, partly cloudy, high forecast to be about 75, so a pleasant day. Cooler feels good to all of us.
Darius, I'm sure sorry you missed the dentist appointment. Did you call them again to let them know you still need them ASAP if they have a cancellation at a time when you do not have a doctor appointment? That's a neat trick on the colored water for the flowers, I have heard that daisys can be made to turn colors that way but hadn't thought of other flowers. Limited imagination here. I tried straight rubbing alcohol on another ink spot on my hubbys brand new white shirt, it didn't get rid of it, so now I have a paste of something similiar to oxyclean on it, hope that works. I think he needs to buy some colored shirts so spots aren't so noticeable. At least this one is just a single streak on the sleeve where it doesn't show much.
Sarv, it might take a day at home before you can settle down and get a good night's sleep. I hope you have fun today with your group.
Maria, I hope you feel better today. We like to hear from you even if you just check in to say you are still alive, just not too well. We all take our turn with the cold germs.
The horses get new shoes today, a week ahead of schedule because my farrier will be gone to visit his daughter in Germany for the next couple of weeks. She is in the Air Force and does something with photography. Anyhow, it is a once in a lifetime chance for her folks to go there, so they go tomorrow. After he gets my horses done I will go riding since it isn't going to be really hot today. I had thought about going this mroning but I got busy with other things and didn't want to have to hurry back home.
Meanwhile, I'm flood irrigating the vegie garden, and have beets cooking for dinner tonight. Pickled beets, yummy! The garden is feeding us pretty well now, except for that darn tomato plant which has only had about 4 ripe ones so far. The variety is a new one to me, called Quick Pik or Pik Right or something, I'll try to find the tag that came in the pot, it is probably there under the mass of leaves, stems and green tomatoes. The corn is wonderful, we have lemon cucumbers, yellow squash and zucchini, onions, carrots, potatoes, chard, green beans (need picking again) and probably more. Oh, and a cabbage has split so I need to be making something with it soon, maybe I'll make carrot and cabbage slaw.
Who is it here that is always making slaw? Defoe? How do you make your dressing? You feed a lot of folks at those fish fries, so it must be a good recipe.
Elaine, take it easy now, just enjoy the day. You and Kota take a walk if it isn't too hot. Fritz and I already took ours, I think we go about 1 1/4 miles most days, sometimes longer. Today Fritz wanted to go past our driveway in the other direction which adds almost another half mile to our walk, but I had the hose going and needed to move it.
Yesterday a minor leak in the basement became more serious, I had placed a plastic wastebasket under the drip and it filled in about 8 hours. My hubby looked at it and will get a new valve and a short piece of pipe to put everything back together, maybe tonight. This leak has just produced a drip now and then for months, was keeping a spot on the cement basement floor wet but it was just saucer sized. A few days ago it was about twice as big, then yesterday the wet place was garbage can lid size, and I put the wastebasket under it because it was handy. Hubby turned the valve off overnight and that helped but now I don't have cold water to the kitchen sink unless I go down there and turn it back on for a while when I need it.
My barrels need a shot of fertilizer today, and the weeds are still ahead of me, yard sprinklers need to keep moving around, perennials that need cutting way back or pulled out because there are just too many of them, plenty to do out there for sure. Now it's time to change the vegie garden water again. Back later.
Yippee! My neighbor Martha will drive me for my colonoscopy, just need a Wednesday appointment now. Call into Doc as we "speak".
Somehow I got fouled up on one of my gas card payments in moving. At the same time, they elected not to renew CheckFree.com where I always paid it and I haven't had a paper bill. I only have 2 gas cards, pay them both in full each month but messed up on this one. Man, the balance is high! I could only pay half of it.
Mary, farriers have hard work so the vacation will be good for him.
BBL, I need a late lunch.
I need badly to thin my rabbit's foot fern. Anyone know how?
I had a better day all around. My back is better so I dug some iris to divide with my daughter. Also cleaned up the greenhouse. So far, I have not had much luck with my brugs, but am going to try again this year.
I hope the brug folks are as generous as in the past.
Home again. The procedure went okey dokey. Thankfully I do NOT have interstitial cystitis. I have urethritis and narrowing of the urethra also. Both easier to deal with than the IC. That is a huge, major relief. I have antibiotics for the 'itis' and they did a stretch job on the tube. And I do not feel like I'm passing razor blades, whew! just a small tack or two. LOL Tylenol for a day or two and 2 months of some sort of muscle drug to help with retention and I should be good to go for a bunch of years. :)
Bummer on the missed dentist opportunity!
Mary, did anyone suggest hydrogen peroxide? I forget what I've read. I used it with a Q-tip for some kind of stain, forgot what kind now, but it did the job.
Ok, rest time. bbl
Oh, Laura, SO happy for you that it wasn't worse!!
I just got out of a HOT shower, yippee. For 2 days now my water heater has tripped the breaker so NO hot water when I want it. I turn the breaker back and it lasts a few minutes but usually NOT when I want a shower. Feeling clean has got to be the best feeling on earth, saving a few when I was young!
grrr, this picture posting drives me crazy!
Here is a pic of the bridge we had to cross. It is the longest suspension bridge (3rd in the world I think) in the US. Please correct me if I am wrong!!
Anyhow there were wind warnings out and we could only travel 40 mph. And man could you feel it sway!!! I was white knuckled all the way across>>>> But we made it!
Cool pics, Sarv. Thanks.
I had an uncle who had so sense of humor that we could tell. One year at my mother's house, he told this story. (He was kinda into construction.)
A man opens his lunch box, opens the sandwich and says, "Oh, no... peanut butter again!"
The other guys laugh, and say, "Who fixes your lunch?"
He says, "Oh, I do."
Cracked me up especially because he had never told a joke.
I think about that story when there's nothing in the house I really want to eat although there is a lot of dried or some frozen food. Who does the shopping? Well, I do! LOL
Darius, I have a rabbit's foot fern too and I want to start some new plants. Mine seems to be major pot bound. I read that you just need to pull off a foot with a fern attached and lay it atop moist potting soil. Now I haven't done it, but do plan on trying.
Good joke too!! LOL
Kooger - yahoo on the procedure all done! Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be. And no razor blades either!!
Wood, I'll have to post pic of my brugs. They are awesome this summer. I planted them out in the garden in full sun and they have grown monsterous. I have one brug called Monster White that is totally covered with blooms. With Messenger, I've not been bothered with mites at all. With fall coming, they really put on a show here, but then I have to dig them up...oh, is that a job....
Maria, you better stop in, if only to tell us how crummy you feel!! We don't mind anyone complaining- this is the place for it. If you still feel punk, I (Dr. Sue) think you should go back to the doc. Maybe you need something stronger than what you are taking. Don't mess around until you get pneumonia again!!
Mary, yuck on water leaks. Had several down in our lower level - and that is where we live! Hope you find the problem quick and get it fixed. By now your horses all have new shoes. Hope they behave and don't kick!!
Well, it is raining (but we need it so I won't complain), and I feel like getting my pj"s on< so check with you all later
Hi Folks,
Just checking in. Spent the morning finishing up the cleaning - baseboards and walls in living and dining rooms. Then laundry before we pack and move on tomorrow. Then at noon, an Ottawa friend who has been out here for 3 months with her daughter and grand children came by and we went out for lunch. Back to DD's housefor awhile when her granddaughter (who cam with her) finished up shopping in the funky shops near my DD's house.
Darius - bummer about the missed chance to get to the dentist.
Sarv - enjoyed the pics.
Well, DD will be home soon. She's been out applicance shopping as the ones in the house are really cheap and they will move them into the downstairs flat and get better ones. There will be a BBQ party this evening including the 6 of us who went to Portland last week and another second cousin with his wife and kids who have just packed up and move to Maui for a few years in a few days.
May not get back again for awhile unless we have time in the airport lounge tomorrow and they have wireless Internet or computers (some do, some don't). We'll have to get our rental car back by 9 to get to the airport in time.
Hope you all are well and behave yourselves (LOL) until I get back again.
Ann
It's been a busy day for many of you, not so for me...what a slug! Went over and fed the grandkats, Max let me pet him! I stroked him for a while and told him what a nice boy he was, and he was fine. Filled the food bowl, and gave them fresh water. He came over and took a nibble, looked at me and scooted! Must have been desperate for a little love, and then realized it was me! Spent the afternoon reading a Michael Connelly book, The Lincoln Lawyer. It was gripping, and I couldn't put it down. Made polish sausage and american fries for dinner, with boiled cabbage and buttered crumbs. Finished the book while I stuffed my face. Still raining off and on, but not thundering/lightening. Hope it's soaking in real good.
Sarv, the company I worked for owned the Edmund Fitzgerald. There was no insurance on the men who worked and went down into Lake Superior on that vessel. I could not believe it. Lost their lives and their families received no compensation. The ship was named after a former president of the company. The Gordon Lightfoot song haunts me still.
Mary, if the alcohol didn't work, I think that stain is there for keeps ...although it may fade if you keep working on it. Some of the inks they make now are new formulas, and old tried and true methods won't work. Isn't is wonderful to enjoy lower temps? It was cooler here today but the humidity is so high, I've kept the house closed up.
Ann, have a wonderful time, and if you can't keep in touch, you'll just have to catch up when you get back and recover from the jet lag. You'll surely be busy seeing the sights, and shopping in Japan. Be sure to take pictures and share them so we can enjoy your vacation. That apartment surely needed a deep cleaning didn't it!
Kooger, good news! No razor blades....and a good spell ahead with no problems. I just made an appt with my Internist, sort of overdue, but my scripts haven't run out so I wasn't in any hurry. She does the whole annual exam, gyn., as well as liver panel, and cholesterol test. And will ask me if I'm still smoking, and I'll ask her if she wants me to lie.
Darius, thanks for the suggestion...I was thinking about dipping them in batter and frying them...! Colorization sounds healthier and less messy. I see those dyed daisies in the supermarket all the time, they really are vivid, but look so unnatural.
My sweet tooth is whispering to me but I don't feel like making anything, so I'll see what kind of ice cream is in the freezer. DH is always good for a bowl We had banana splits the other night. I've been watching old Homicide: Life on the Streets reruns. Good thing I've got a bad memory.
Look at this, leave your chair for a minute, and the squatters move right in!
Saying good night early, and hope to sleep through tonight without sound effects from the weather...
Sheila
m5 - your doc sounds like mine on the weight and exercise issue. lol He never pressed it much till he lost 50 lbs., so now he's a nagger!
I agree on the Gordon Lightfoot song. I had/have? the record - he grew up abt 30-40 miles from my hometown. (I bought it back then but haven't seen it in decades so may have lost it somewhere.) I'm finding Big and Rich's song The 8th of November to be of the same quality. The story was told to them by a veteran in Deadwood, SD. One of their favourite haunts.
Okay everybody has been busy except M5, reading is hard work sometimes, so maybe not a lost day. Glad the grandkits are being well cared for. Wasn't Max a resident at your house sometime ago?
Kooger, glad the procedures were not all that bad, and your situation was not as feared.
Sarv, liked your pics. Wish I had known about 5 years ago that you were "up there", when we visited Macaknaw Island, would have loved to have extended the trip with a visit to you.
Darius, good joke, and nobody to blame but "you". for no food in the house. Gosh that is a lot of miles in so short of a time. Hope that you get all this done, and then settle in for a winter of "no dr appts. When I get back from my trip I need to schedule a pap smear and mammogram, plus a fasting lipid profile.
Woodspirit, your back feels better, but you are chancing digging iris? Are you a glutton? LOL. I know that those jobs need to be done, and who else will do it.
Mary, glad your temps are milder today, and that the horses have new shoes by now. Glad that your farrier has gotten the chance for the trip, that is great. About the slaw, I just make a very ordinary one, my speciality is the hush puppies that go with the fish. Ususally we furnish the fish and hush puppies, and someone else always brings the slaw. All I do is use my mini chopper to chop the cabbage, onion and carrot, then use celery salt, pepper, and a mixture of Marzetti's slaw dressing, a dash of sugar and mayonnaise as the dressing. I am not a slaw fiend, so this does it for me.
Viann, now you are really in need of a vacation. You rest tonight, and be sure to take plenty of pics to share with us, that may be the closest to Japan as I ever get so get some good ones please.
Petralittledog, a compliment around here is second helpings, and if I ask advice, like is this okay, the answer is "it's okay". So no abundance of enthusisiam in this household. While shopping the other day, DTS was trying on something, and I sat in a little alcove, where an elderly gentleman was waiting. Evidently his wife appeared in a pants suit, he admired it, then she turned to me and asks "does this make me look old?" I was waiting for the "fat" word. Threw me for a loop. She was a very lovely older woman, and the pants suit looked great on her, so I told her she looked elegant, which she did.
I01, what have you been up to today? Would love to see your blooms on the brug? I have never tried to grow them, so maybe next year you can give advice about it.
Well, my day was productive. Went to get the haircut, and since I had only called the day before, and she "worked" me in, I took her a jar of strawberry preserves, and a very good tip. I really appreciate her. She has been my hairdresser for about 15 years. Then when I got home DH had shucked and silked the corn, and I put it on to blanch. While that was on the stove, started laundry, and cleaning. DH made a run to town to get turnip seeds and fertilizer, and when he got home I was still working on cutting the corn off the cob, so he helped finish that. After supper, I finished cleaning the house, folding laundry, and still have the kitchen and laundry room to clean tomorrow. I have to run to the bank, library, drug store, tomorrow morning, then home to IRON clothes and pack. DTW is coming tomorrow night, so that we can get a very early start to the airport Saturday morning. Our flight is at 6:30 am. Since I am not a morning person, I need to have everything ready the night before. I am still feeling bum, the throat is still scratchy, I am coughing, and just feeling lousy. I may call my Dr. tomorrow morning and see if he will prescribe something, and if I can get an appointment, go see him. I sure hate to start this trip feeling this way.
Maria, please let us know how you are doing. It is all right to just check in and say that you still feel crappy, we understand, but get anxious when we don't hear from you. Hope Samson doesn't catch this from you!!. I once gave my dog a cold, and he was sicker that I was. The vet says that this is common, to pass things between animals and humans. He went to the vet, but I didn't go to the Dr. Does that tell you where my priorities are?
Well, hoping to get in bed at an early hour tonight. Maybe rest and sleep will go far in making me feel better.
May check in later, but if not, hope you all have a good night, pleasant dreams only, nightmares prohibited!!
Mary-I don't know if you have Dollar General stores out where you live, but if you do, they have a product that will take ink out of clothes. I can't remember what it is called, but it comes in a little tub and looks like the goop stuff that guys use in garages to clean grease off their hands. I bought some to take stains out of old baby clothes that had been sitting for years and it took them all out. My uncle took some and rubbed it on his jeans where a pen had busted in the pocket and the stain started coming out right away even after they had been through the washer and dryer several times. If you don't have a Dollar General store let me know and I can get a tub for you. It only costs a dollar and lasts forever.
Defoe-I got my hair cut today also. They cut off 15 inches. I had them braid it first so I can send it to Locks of Love.
This morning made me angry. I had to go to court to testify against some woman I don't even know. Last November I was on my way to the grocery store and this woman ran out in front of my truck, so I slammed on my brakes to keep from hitting her and she came around to my door and opened it and tried to pull me out of the truck. She was yelling about someone coming to kill her and kept going on about it. A man came up right behind her dressed in a security guard uniform and was trying to pull her off of me. He had already called the police, so within a minute or so a bunch of cops pulled up and came running and grabbed her. It took five of them to hold her down. Turns out she was on meth. But anyway, this morning I went to testify, waited for two hours at the court house, and then a lawyer came out to let me and the security guard both know that she failed to show up, so they have a warrant out for her arrest and will reschedule the court date. Now I have to take another day off of work and make the half hour trip to go sit and wait and probably get told that she pleaded guilty so I don't have to testify. It makes me really angry that someone can do something stupid and then waste taxpayers' money and a lot of different people's time by not being considerate enough to show up and take the punishment for what you did wrong.
OK, time to get off my soapbox now! Other than that, I had a pretty good day.
Greetings all,
kooger, so glad that things turned out well for you. I feel the same way about the Gordon Lightfoot song, but never heard the other one that you mention.
darius, sorry you have to go to all these doctor appointments, but glad that your neighbor will take you.
Bonnie, looks like you're as busy as ever.
cece and Sheila, hope you've seen the last of the lightning and thunder for while and that you both get a good night's sleep. Lightning that's close scares the heck out of me.
woodspirit, glad you felt better today.
I01, glad that your arm is doing better. Now you just have to remember not to aggravate it.
sarv, nice pictures! That's some bridge. Bridges don't generally bother me, but that one would've! Glad you had a good time ---you'll just have to give yourself a couple of days to get back in sync.
Hi Mary, Twyla, Maria (if you're out there reading this), petra, V-ann, Flowerchild and all of our "lurkers" I wish you all a good night.
Tomorrow's daily is up over here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/643613/
