I will see if I can capture the sepals in a picture, Ron. I will have to pose the picture, because the calyx is closely attached to the stem, with little to no stem (petiole?). I am on alert status to deploy to the hurricane zone as of yesterday and may not be around for a few weeks. Everyone pray the hurricane misses Florida altogether!

Love the Rose Sil Tie Dye, Q751, Maruba Asagao and so many others! Here is my Fujishibori. Thanks for the seeds Emma.

These I think are 'Maisugata'. I am getting lots of blooms from them.

All your pictures are beautiful. Anyone know the name of this one? It came from a Japan in a co-op I participated in last year but I lost track of the names along the way.

Joseph - the sepal photo you posted above for the Ipomoea lacunosa here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Gerris2_1156647033_50.jpg
is showing alot of hair on the sepals along with an elongated throat and the above sepals looks like an Ipomoea purpurea to me...

lincolnitess - the fuji shibori looks excellent when the white along the folds is particularly distinctive like oon your blooms here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/lincolnitess_1156707280_346.jpg

Ipomoea pandurata...looking forward to photos of the developing seedpods and any resultant seeds
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/lincolnitess_1156707468_950.jpg

The yojiro look particularly interesting when the mid section of the secondary folds develops a different color like the bloom in the upper left here

shadowgirl - Excellent (!) photo of the side view of the flower here

The large number of pink colored JMG's can have alot of overlapping features...it may be an

Benigasuri

Hanahubuki

Heian no Kagayaki
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/58541/

Ushio is another possiblity...

Perhaps at some point a side-by-side flower, leaf and sepal comparison can be done to help clarify the plant(s) in question...in the interim, please (everybody!) continue to post photos of the blooms along with leaves and sepals (in the forums and in the PlantFiles) to aid in comparative identification...some named types may indeed be truly distinct, whilst others may eventually be discovered to be duplicates...

Thanks Ron, it is "Hanahubuki". I am making sure this one sets seeds so I can grow it again. Most of the main stems of my MG's were chewed at the ground this year, probably by a vole, so not many grew to maturity. And I had such high hopes.

Joseph your Q751 JMG is absolutely stunning.!!! Wherever did you get it?!

Robbie, I especialy like the double white, you don't see them too often.

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Seedsower - The Blue Silk you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Seedsower_1156891114_845.jpg
look really nice with the serrated outer edge and the equally nice serrated white inner star pattern around the throat...
The speckled bloom you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/Seedsower_1156891291_465.jpg
may be the Kanoko if the dots really look pink in person

Robbie - The light blue-purple purpurea you posted here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/rh3708_1156944640_210.jpg
is a very pleasant color...I've always liked those..it also has an inner white star around the throat...if it's hard to see>squint when you look at the flower and the star will be easier to see...

The reddish one here

I love it! That is neat seeing them all side by side. The iron work is beautiful too!!!

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

lincolnitess - Outstanding(!) collage...Thanks(!)...

P.S. - You better have your list ready of what's in there ,cuz you know(!) your gonna get asked (?!) > like "what is that sheeny light blue one in the lower row to the right of the large white one">(?)...

TTY,...

Ron

(Zone 7a)

rh3708 and Ron, this morning a Hatsu Arashi (from The Fragrant Path) flower spiraled from the center in such a way that it looks like a funnel within a funnel. Has anyone seen this before in Hatsu Arashi? Any advice on how I could breed Hatsu Arashi to do this more often in future years? Are there other MGs that do this that I could cross with next year?

Well, all the MGs gifted and traded to me by Emma, Ron and Ansonfan are beyond any adjectives I can think of now - awesome would be too inadequate. I think DH has caught the fever - mornings will never be the same around here after you guys.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Ron, the shiney light blue one is 'Akathukinoumi'. It is a self sown one that surprised me this year. It grew about 12' from where I had them planted last year in a crack between some bricks. Not the best place, but I was alble to pull it up and drap it over a raised bed it was growing near.

Bluespiral,
This is my first year growing Hatsu Arashi and so far nothing out of the ordinary.

Robbie, mine is solid dark blue-purple without that white eye in the middle. I'm going to try to get pictures with our regular camera and see if someone savvy in computers can scan some on the computer for me to show on this forum. Hatsu Arashi has not repeated this spiral funnel in funnel business again - but I did bag and mark which pod it was. The second, outer funnel was actually one-quarter of a circle, not a complete second circle.

But I love the contrasts in others, too...who ever has seen a MG they didn't like (we're talking flowers here, not aggressive habits)?

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

Bluespiral, Good luck getting the picture scanned I would love to see your MG.
All the blue ones I've planted this year have a white eye except heavenly blue and this one it's the only one with a slight pinkish red line around the eye.
i haven't seen a blue that was solid with out any other color with it.
If you get seeds enough to share i hope you will keep me in mind, I'm sure we could work out a trade for something I'm growing.

Robbie, mea culpa, oof and oy - my Hatsu Arashi does have a white eye like yours does. However, this morning, the first flower of Mr. Rasmussen's bonus seed packet called 'Double Blackie' just opened up (The Fragrant Path). I've put you down on my list for seed to share of this one in October - if all goes well - along with Ron_Convolvulaceae, EmmaGrace and Mr. Rasmussen.

Conveniently enough (Mwa-haha), I get to inflict my purple-prose description of this "purple" flower upon you since I don't have a digital camera:

This MG has the usual exquisite color gradation of ivory in throat to pale haze of fuchsia in tube to black-blue-purple in the limb, with medium blue-purple shadings.

It's form is the thing - 2 funnel-like limbs that are shredded and twisted and recurve making the flower look more double than you would think with 2 funnels. In the side view - on the bottom, the ivory part of the tube emanating from the sepals - there are tiny "feathers" with more feathering on themselves (kind of like a fractal image where one form repeats itself infinitely in both diminishing and increasing directions of size). And then the pale fuchsia shading to a sudden explosion of ruffling and recurving of the outer limb in its various dark and lighter shadings of blue-purple.

Hopefully, Robbie, we'll have some trading to do come October.

bluespiral -- There were some outstanding double dark purple Ipomoea purpurea offered for trade (only to listed members) a couple of years ago in the Flower & Herb Exchange publication...I'm wondering if the flowers you have are ultimately from the same source...they were offered by a veteran MG grower in Texas who got them from 'another' MG vet...
