Mary, thank you for your carring words, I truly appreciate them
a big hug just for you
Coffee and ... for Wednesday, August 9
Well, I forgot to watch this thread again. *sigh* Thought y'all had been tooo quiet. Should have known something was wrong. LOL
Congrats cece on your win. Doesn't that just feel good through and through?? I know I know ... that sounds so mean, but I do so love to win. :-) I'm so sorry to hear about your Ex sil. That's so sad, and my T&P's will be going out to you and the family.
Mary so sorry to hear about your poor horse. Gee, if it's not one thing it's another isn't it. Sure hope it doesn't get infected. Do you have another ride this week-end?
Meezers, wow fingernails? You mean you actually have fingernails? Mine just break right off and then I pick at them and yeah okay I chew a bit too.
Y'all will never believe what I've just done. I was watering the big pots out under the carport when the phone rang, so I just laid it down and ran in to answer as I wasn't through. I thought I'd remember to go back and move it cause I still had 3 more pots to do. Well, crazy me just remembered about an hour later, so the poor hosta was floating! I've set a timer this time, so maybe I won't drown the others. LOL
Maria, Mary's right you know. There comes a point and time when you have to realize that the best you can do is find the very best care you can ... even if that care isn't you. If you are exhausted then that's not the best for either party concerned ... not counting the special medical needs that need to be addressed. No one needs to feel ashamed of needing help.
Gosh, it's time to move the hose again.
Just popped in for a minute to say....
Happy Birthday!!! To 9kittymom
Judy
Oh I am SOOOOO steamed.....DM called and wanted DH/DS to pick up a tv chesty thing she found at an estate sale - I had things all worked out....DIL would get the old tv chest (she was thrilled) and DM would get the new one (not really new, but new to her) It was a big piece of furniture, so DS had to help. Had all the blankets rounded up, bungie cords etc. Called her and she said 'oh I decided I didn't want to bother you with it' BOTHER ME!! I had everything all set!!! Now DIL is disappointed, DH is mad at me because he had to round everything up, and I am royally pi***d at DM.
Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed.....
Since I am really ticked, I usually do my best cleaning/throwing stuff away. Maybe good will come out of it anyway.
Hope everyone elses day was better than mine.
Quick post before i head for the movies....photo is for Dmcd....Sammi and Olivia killing a present they got in the mail yesterday!! They really are two of a kind!!
Glad Breezy's owie isn't a bad one, Mary. They are just like kids aren't they? Always getting into trouble, and come running to mom...or in this case, limping.
Yes, IO1, I do at least on eight of my fingers. The ones that suffer the most are the index and middle on my right hand, which are the ones used for poking, scraping, and picking at things, thread, knots, etc. The rest have done pretty well by using an oil type treatment, every night. Wearing gloves helps a lot, and that's been a hard adjustment to make but I got some good ones; Fox gloves, and Mudgloves, both found on line.
Cherie, that's too bad about your exSIL's husband. My cousin had the same thing, and he said the only good thing about it was that while he was on chemo, his severe rheumatism eased up. He had an unbelievably good attitude towards it, and survived for quite a while. He was our favorite cousin, and it was hard to lose him.
Oh my I better get going, have to hit the P.O., I sold those drapes on Ebay and need to mail them today. Actually squeezed them into the large flat rate Priority Mail box..... !
Later! running out the doooooooor
Sheila
Happy bday 9kittymom!!! :)
I am at work now and am so sleepy I can hardly hold my head up! I was on the phone last night with an old dear friend from high school and boy was it fun catching up. We are planning to meet for lunch next time she is in the area.
Tomorrow is the first day of 2nd grade for my DS and he is very excited. He already has his clothes picked out and everything. I will go in with him tomorrow since its the 1st day and help him find his class, meet the teacher, etc. Always a fun time, the 1st day of school is.
Will check back in later after I get home. Try to stay cool everyone!
Katy
Happy Birthday Susan (9kitty)! Hope you are having a wonderful day. Hope you get some rain for your birthday.
Don't have time for more. Just a ~~~~and see ya later!
Oh M5 what adorable little killers you have. My cats have never played with a toy like that. Must be that siamese.
Hi katym. always nice to visit with an old friend. Especiallly all the trouble we got into back then. Weren't we just tough in school!!1
Your son is starting school already? Ours don't start until just before Labor Day. Glad it's such a fun time for you. Those are the things he's going to remember.
sarv it sounds like you were dealing with my mother. She does that all the time. Frustrating when it happens.
101- I do that with my pond all the time when I'm topping it off.
Your kids go back to school tomorrow katym? Oh I wish........Mine are driving me absolutely insane. Get me this get me that, you'd never know they're just 18 and 15. Couldn't find their way out of a paper bag if their lives depended on it. My older two turned out so well............what did I do wrong with these two?
Oh sarv ... you poor thing ... don't you just *hate* it when all your good intentions go awry like that?? {{{ }}}
ves the kids started to school Monday here. I remember when school started just after Labor Day. :-) Thank goodness I don't have kids. Oh they're sweet ... especially when they're someone elses. LOL
We had sweet and sour chicken served on brown rice with a salad tonight. Got left overs for the DH's lunch. Now the poor thing won't have to eat sandwiches tomorrow. :-)
Got to go clean up the messy kitchen, though. :-(
~~~
101- Please don't mention clean the kitchen. Did it once today so I could freeze corn. Now it needs done again.
We had spanish rice for supper. I always try to make enough so DH gets it for his lunch the next day.
Aren't we good little wifies????
I always appreciate someone else's kids. They go home or I do.
I tell people I went to work to get away from my kids....but it was really so they would stop whining "I'm hungry...I'm cold.... my shoes have holes in them"
I like children until they smell bad, throw up, or get loud.
Ves, siamese are playful all their lives, and are very smart. They have kind of a doggy personality without the walking outdoors with plastic bags for poo. I like dogs, especially other peoples, and my DD's. She breeds Golden Retrievers, adorable puppies but by the time she sells the 8th or ninth of a litter, she's happy to see them go.
Reminder: I live on NOPUPPY LANE, just in case anyone forgot. By anyone, I mean anyone named Bonnie whose Mr. B couldn't contain his urges and got a young lady in trouble. Ahhhh, the shame of it all.
I'm getting loopy, I should go to bed ....I know its early ...but my brain is like swiss cheese and I'm tired. By the way, don't take any little kids to see Monster House, it'll scare the bejeebers out of them. PG rated but I'm telling you, some people are asking for their money back because their kids were screaming and crying in the first fifteen minutes! I didn't scream. I am fearless. Only in theatres though.
Good night.
Sheila
Took a shower and got my nightie and sat down at the computer and my cell phone rings. DS calling asking me to go to their house and feed their cats, get their mail and water their plants. They are still cleaning DGP's house. DS said they have filled 2 dumpsters that are 23 ft long, 8ft wide and 5 ft deep. Can you imagine that much junk!! They have another dumpster coming tomorrow.
So I got dressed and drove over there...what a good mom I am!!!
They passed a law that the school can't start here until after Labor Day. They thought it was taking away from the tourism of the state. Good luck tomorrow Katym...Don't they have the 'meet the teacher' before the first day of school? We always did..
cece - count yourself lucky that two turned out so well! Mine were pistals during the dreaded teen years, but as adult they are pretty good. Much better than DB's!! His make mine look like saints!!
Tomorrow I'm gonna clean some more...sure feels good to toss stuff out. We have three typewriters that I need to pitch. Who in the world uses them anymore? Also have old ataris and a couple of other game things that are going. Will I be sorry??? Hope not!
Went outside for a bit and watched the bats overhead. They sure put on a show -swooping and such. Wish they'd pig out on the mosquitoes.
Here's hoping I have a whole nights sleep!!
I'm off work tomorrow. I have a long list of chores. Mostly boring stuff like vacuuming, and weeding. I have to collect some rose campion seeds, though and move some carnations that are not getting enough sun. I moved my cardinal flowers last year and this year they are spectacular. So I'll try to find a happier home for the carnations too. Now if I could just get cleome to grow again - had a good year with them about 3 years ago but none since. I know, I know, they're supposed to be so easy to grow that they can become almost invasive, but they're not working for me.
M5-----you could send her one but the could not use it she is an old girl also.
Susan----- watch the heat. I went over to help out and neighbor lady( very old girl) with a broken steel pole on her dock. I welded it and before I knew it the heat got me and they had to kind of help me up the steps. I sat on her sun porch for about 30 minutes and drank about a quart of water before I could go home. Thank god her grandkids were there I would never have carried that welder back up those 15 or 20 steep steps. I came on so fast it took me by surprise. I have a heat stroke in Port Said Egypt when I was in the navy from standing guard on a flight deck in 119 degree weather but it was not so fast as this got to me. This time one minute I was sweaty and the next minute I stood up and about went to my knees.
sarv, I hope DS is aware that old photos and documents can be a part of the history of his DGP's county or town. He should at least hold on to them and let the local history group or the archives at the library take a look at them. So many things are lost that tell a story when older folks' houses are cleaned out.
Geez Oz, take it easy- you're not a spring chicken anymore!! LOL Have a cold one and put your feet up- we want you around for a bit more...I'll send over a jar of peanut butter if that would help you recover!
wood, they are throwing away newspapers, groceries, and just plain junk (4 old style mixers ) get the picture!! Both daughters are there making sure that nothing of value gets tossed. GM was a real pack rat. DS said they had 10 big jugs of white vinegar!! And enough zip lock baggies to last a lifetime!
Okay, finally back from TN and the visit with my lung doctor.
Good News, Iffy News, and Uncertain News.
The Good News is that the last CT Scan didn't show the nodules on my lungs at all. Guess they just disappeared, LOL. However, my doc is suspicious and wants another one done at a different hospital just to make sure. Hey, it's not her 20% of $2,000+ I have to pay!
Uncertain news, the CT Scan showed some skin lesions on my back that need biopsys. I used to be a strawberry blonde, which is a true semi-albino and subject to skin lesions.
Also, the CT Scan showed some cysts in my liver so I have to see a Gastroenterologist.
Iffy News: I do have sleep apnea. The tests show I stopped breathing 7 times in 6 hours, and also have RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). So, I have a bunch of prescriptions to fill, and an Order for a CPAP machine for sleeping. May get that ordered tomorrow, but I need to look into how Medicare will pay and buying vs. renting per month.
The other good news is that it was a beautiful day for a drive to TN!
Okay guys,
You really think that I can remember who all said what in FIFTY posts today?? I can pretty much guarantee that I'm going to forget something or (worse) someone. Apologies in advance.
First off, Happy Birthday 9kitty and I sure hope you feel a lot better soon! Don't blame you for not wanting to kill the poor sparrow. I love to see the bluebirds when they visit in the Spring but I'm kind of glad that our yard isn't their prime habitat (too many trees and bushes, not enough open ground) so that I don't even have to think about putting up houses and nesting boxes for them and killing sparrows to keep them out. I kind of like to watch and listen to the sparrow tribes that visit our yard.
Sheila, loved the kitty picture and especially the caption you provided.
sarv, what a pain in the patootie. I don't suppose it would have done any good to try to explain to your DM that "not bothering" at that point would be a whole lot more bother than just going ahead and getting the stand?
Mary, sorry about Breezy's newest injury --- hope it heals quickly. Will this mean that you have to sit out another ride?
Maria, thanks for posting the directions for the roasted tomatoes. That sounds really good. If and when I have enough ripe ones, I'll have to try it. Thanks too for the update on Babs. Given her mother's age and precarious health, I figured that her absence was probably caused by something like that. I hope that my mother will never have to go into a nursing home, but we're all well aware that if she falls prey to the Alzheimer's that runs so strongly in her family, there may finally be no other choice.
darius, your land looks beautiful to me, long grass or no. I have quite a few coreopsis, nasturtium, and calendula in the back of the veggie garden and would be glad to try to gather some seeds for you if you'd like. Just previewed and saw all your latest news. All I can say is that I hope that it all turns out to be good news (but also that I 'd hate to have to go to all those various doctors!)
So sorry about the aches and pains and much worse conditions that many of you or your friends or relations (and even ex-relations) are suffering.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day here. The humidity that's been an almost constant scourge took a vacation. We slept without the airconditioner last night and this morning was delightfully cool. Wish I'd been able to stay home and do some outdoors work, but it just wasn't to be. The store doesn't run itself. Dmcd, glad that you had great weather as well. I imagine it was nice in your area also, Maria. Fall is my favorite time of year. Despite the lack of a garden, I find Winter easier to deal with than Summer. The only thing about Winter that really gets me is the ice storms, and I wouldn't even mind those so much if I didn't have to get out and go to work when the roads are like skating rinks. (Actually, when it's THAT bad these days I just declare it a vacation day generally.
Cherie, congrats on winning the battle of the pond. You'll have to post some pics when you get it functioning. We all need to see the famous froggie fountain.
Almost forgot to mention our news here. My DH saw the podiatrist today and was told that he needs to stay mostly off his feet for ANOTHER three weeks, so no going back to work yet. Hopefully, the disability insurance will still cover him even though he no longer has his job. That would surely be a big help. DH might not be able to go back to Trader Joe's at all since the doc said that ideally he should try to find a job that wouldn't require so much standing. Easier said than done. DH plans to check out the temp agencies to see if they have anything that was suitable and he's heard from one of the places that refer consultants to businesses, so we'll have to wait and see.
Hi to V-ann, Bonnie, ves, somermoone, katy, I01, woodspirit, Twyla, suzieq, tgif, judycooksey, and oz. I hope I didn't leave anyone out. Goodnight to you all.
Oz, good grief!! What do you think you're doin'???
Givin' us old gals advice and then doin' that to yourself.
I had a good day overall. I went to eat Chinese and had Velvet Chicken. Very very good. Then we went by WalMart and bought a new gas grill. We needed one that was just plain jane, we don't need the 20 foot with a cooktop on the side. I can still cook that stuff in the house for goodness sake. Came with a gas tank, but when we were planning to grill tomorrow night, we realized it is an EMPTY tank. LOL So now we will have to go back into town to get the propane. Sheesh
Then I went out to do my watering and DD called and I had to water with one hand and talk. That was difficult. Then it was 9pm and I went out to do my walking and had done one round and my sister called so I just went back in and sat down. It was too hot outside anyway, not any air moving at all and it's still 95. We were 107 today and supposed to be hotter tomorrow.
Now I need to do the SPCA bills and pack one ebay item which probably won't get done until tomorrow. The packing, I will try to do the bills if I can ever pull myself away from DG. LOL
~~~~~~~to everyone and thanks again for the BD wishes!!
Susan
=^..^=
Wow, Darius, that is a mixed bag of medical news. I'm glad that none of it appears to be really bad. Nice day for a drive, that was good. I was thinking that your new teenage helper is working out very well, and it looks like a good partnership, he provides the muscle and you have the knowhow.
Oz, good thing you weren't by yourself when the heat got to you. It can come on very fast. Drink lots of water even if you don't think you need it, and take salt tablets.
We sure have a lot of hummers zipping around. I was watching about 6 fighting over one of the feeders and then realized there were 3 more in the background having their own party. I don't know what might have been happening on the other side of the house at the same time. We will sure miss them when they go south for the winter. They must fly like little bullets!
When I went for my ride on Patch we checked to be sure that the neighbor's animals are in the right pastures. They were, but I had to do some looking for one bunch of yearling cattle, they had all gone down by the water hole and bedded down there for the day. I think they eat all night, or maybe evening and morning when it is cool. After that we went out in the hills on the jeep roads and cow trails for about an hour. He got grain when we got home and I had ice cream. To each his own.
Now I need to go feed the neighbor's cats, doctor Breezy's foot and then it will be time to sit out on the front porch in the breeze with a glass of wine and watch the hummers again. Goodnight, sleep well.
MaCool, the weather today was just heavenly, I am with you all the way about what we like and don't like about our New England weather, just hope it will stay like this for a while.
I am mostly a lurker, though I read everyones post I keep forgetting who said what sorry to say, just cannot keep track any more must be my senior brain, lol
Hi Mary, posted at the same time
Gosh ... and now I know why they say gettin old ain't for sissies! LOL I think we're all fallin apart!! I sure have felt like it the past 6 weeks. My sympathies to everyone tonight. If you need to eat away your sorrows I've got a good recipe for you to try. Hey sarv ... you *really need to listen up on this one. I found it in the recipe forum. It's mango sorbit, and boy is it ever good! I've never had anything like it before. Okay, I've got to go to bed before I eat the entire churn full. Between that and Pati's carimal cashew icecream I'm going to look like the Good Year Blimp. :-(
nighty night
~Elaine~
Hi folks,
Been catching up with financial records and trying to sort out junk. House hasn't been organized and cleaned in way too long. All of a sudden it's after 11. So I'll take a stab at catching up, but probably will miss a lot.
Sarv - two dumpsters is a LOT of stuff. When we cleaned out my mother's place, we put out a lot of garbage the first week, then got a dumpster. But we managed to get the stuff into one, gave a lot away to charity and had two garage sales and a house sale.
The French schools here start the last week of August, but the English schools never start till the Tuesday after Labour Day. But they also go to the very end of June.
Do you have many bats to watch? I've only seen them in a couple of the local churches and the National Arts Centre during concerts. How to distract an audience. LOL
OZ - glad you are OK. It's real important to keep up lots of fluids in the hot weather.
Woodspirit - you are right about old documents. When we cleaned out my mother's house, we sold quite a few post cards from early in the 20th century and were astounded how much we got for them. We through out many pictures because there was no labelling of any kind and since Mom was showing signs of dementia, she couldn't really tell us anything. So we could also make this a reminder to try to label pictures. Of course, nowday, we all have them digital. Wonder how long those will last? Anyway, we had limited time to clean out the house. My sister came from Alaska and I had a 5 hour drive to get home. We had two weeks before we had a specialist coming to pack up Mom's Heisey glass collection and we needed every bit of that time. Didn't have a lot of time to run around with items. I hope that some of the things we sold at the garage sales had good value for people.
Darius - hard to know what to say about the medical news. I guess sleep-wise, it's good to have a diagnosis. Glad you had a good day for a drive. I have similar coloring to yours and keep watch over my skin like a hawk. The good thing is that trying to get a tan when I was young was so useless that I never spent much time in the sun.
How is the tooth? Several of us are pooling together to help you with the expenses of a dentist. (Anyone else interested, D-mail me).
McCool - sorry to hear that DH still needs to stay off his feet. Sure hope the insurance continues for awhile.
Susan - nice that you had a good day for your birthday.
Mary - hope Breezy's foot is doing OK. Nice to see the hummers.
Elaine - glad you got a chance to post a few times today. Sorry you feel that you're falling apart and hope your ills improve soon.
Hi to anyone I've not mentioned - which is most of you. I'll be back in a few moments with the thread for tomorrow and I'll try to spell it right tonight.
Have a good night.
Ann
The thread for Thursday is up at http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/637498/
I always thought that when I saw McCool post that it was truly day's end, but I am the one now who brings up the rear. I got so throroughly engrossed today,that I didn't check in once. Had my grocery/errand day, came home and put a batch of tomatoes in the oven to roast, did some odd jobs, then it was supper time, then church Bible study time, and then ordering a few daylilies from a neighbor, bedtime for DGD, and then me trying to catch up. Whew, lot going on today.
The tomatoes turned out nicely, made a chunky spaghetti sauce, and even cooked the spaghetti to try it out on. Delish!! Gonna do another batch tomorrow.
Won't even try to comment to each individually, except to say, Hurrah to cece, got what you wanted, Darius, still trying to figure out good news/bad news, M5, still know where you are going, Woodspirit, sorry about missed dinner, probably was the standard rubber chicken. Thanks for the news about Babs, Oz what in the devil are you thinking about?, Get thee out of the sun, "ole man", I01, sorry about the hose running, and the drowned hosta. That's all I can remember. CRS-BIG TIME.
Tomorrow is cleaning/weeding day. Both are bad, Sarv, come and help me please.
Well gonna go seek the refuge of my bed, so goodnight all.
