rain chains

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

any of you make your own rain chain? They are so expensive to purchase. $80 for one is too much for me.

Okay, now a question, what is a rain chain?

Wimberley, TX(Zone 8a)

A rain chain hangs from your gutter spout. They're rings made of copper that are linked together and when it rains, the water "adheres" to the rings as it flows down the chain. Prettier than a downspout! Wind and Weather carries them.

Badseed, they are fantastic but the $ is too much for me to justify.

I had never heard of them but had to look them up. I agree that $80 on sale, is a lot for a pretty 'gutter'. I thought others would like to see them. Some of the cone shaped, square ones, etc probably wouldn't be that hard to make with some type of form. Sheet metal of any type is pretty expensive though. I wanted to make copper lotus leaves last year for a water feature for my pond and it would have cost me more for the metal than buying a fountain ready made. LOL I am thinking 1' x 1', maybe 2' sheets of copper, was around $35 each.

I work in steel plate sales and the price of steel has gone up dramatically in the last few years to say nothing of copper and other metals. Maybe copper is not the only way to go altho I love the look of weathered copper. thanks for the link.
