pony tire swing pattern

Nye, MT

Help! I have been searching for a pony tire swing pattern and have met with many frustrating dead ends. Is there one out there? There are plenty of net sites that sell the completed swings but that does nothing to deplete my supply of used tires on hand. I would really appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks

The easiest way to make a swing is to drill a hole in the tire and send an eye-bolt through it. Put as large (and thick) a washer as you can fit on the underside and bolt it on. Attach a chain to the eye-bolt. A fairly large washer on the top wouldn't hurt, either.

To make a 'tripod' attached swing, wrap a rope around the tire so that it holds it up from 3 points. Adjust until the tie is level, and drill your holes in the top of the tire in line with where the rope is. Attach eye-bolts and chain as above.

The most important thing about tire swings is distributing the weight over as much of the tire as possible - so the largest-diameter washer you can find is best. Otherwise, the weight & swinging will 'tear' the tire at the bolt-hole. Eventually, it will anyway, so check it pretty regularly. A thicker washer will not bend with excess weight as soon as a thinner washer.

Also make sure you check the tire for spots where the steel belting might be showing. The steel wires can really hurt if they scratch you and I have even had a steel splinter from them - check them carefully 'cause the buggers HURT.

Oh, yeah - and don't forget a couple of holes in what will be the bottom of the swing - to let rain water out.

I also found alternate plans here - http://www.ehow.com/how_17381_hang-tire-swing.html

I don't know if you found a pattern, but I got a picture of one so that I can try to build myself because I thought It was so cute. Maybe you could figure it out by looking at a picture.
