Beautiful blooms AND pics Christina!
Hey Karen....way up at the top pic I noticed something...why is it that you have saucers on all your other plants but not on the lacunosa? Also, what is that long leafed one hanging above it? Just got curious about that.

Thanks for the comments!

Karen, you just send me a ticket and I'll come take photos of your hoyas any time!

Thanks for the nice comments!
Ann - the lacunosa does sit in a saucer, I just moved it to takes it's pic! The plant with the long leaves above it is h. sp. Kunming Kina...from QP, and I LOVE IT!! The leaves are fantastic - good thing I like leaves, 'cuz I don't see alot of blooms!!
Christina...soooo tempting, sooo tempting!!! Would the ticket also include photography lessons??? LOL

Carol, we all know Karens photo is good, but don't spoil my chances of going to Illionois!!! (Karen, photo lessons would be included.)

I really like the color on H. clorantha var. tutuilensis, I love the dainty leaves on her as well. Can't, wait for mine to bloom. I'm anxious to see the blooms on dimorpha too, I purchased a cutting of it from David and it seems to be taking it's time to grow, so Christina I will just admire yours from afar.

Karen your cv. Sunrise is really pretty. And a great photo, I like the coloring on your leaves too.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Karen, your photo is really good - I especially like how you captured the pretty redness in the leaves. However, I think Christina would make an excellent visiting photography instructor! (just trying not to ruin her chances of getting a trip down south - lol).

Christina those pics are just beautiful! OK....here is a pic of the obscura seed pods http://community.webshots.com/photo/63951853/2832525320044472573nfcMGI ....not sure how long I should wait before I mail one out? Carol....any ideas?

Kim

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OH BOY...they kinda look like they are getting ready to be mature...is that a bit of brown at the ends of the pod?

You could pick them now and send them...they will ripen off the vine in the pod... Do you want some H. australis seeds? to trade.

Oh goody...I can't wait!!!

Carol

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Ann

Priest River, ID

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Carol....so sorry I haven't gotten on here....got a stats final today. The pods are a bit brown on the ends, so if you think it's ok I can pick one and send it out to you tomorrow. Should I package it any certain way? Also, the australis seeds sound great. I can already hear the pitter-patter of baby hoyas....lol.

H. wayettii....(I think, LOL!) finally bloomed for me early this summer, and has been doing so off and on.

I like this shot because it also shows the foliage in the background.

And speaking of *finally*.....we were discussing H. obscura a while back....a few people had lovely blooms and a few of us were envious and wishing/hoping ours would do the same.

I hung mine outdoors on the branch of an apple tree (with many friends!) and it's not only grown like crazy, but has two of these!

I like that shot of wayetii, Nan! Those colours together makes "perfect".

I find that a lot of mine bloomed better once I put them outside. One time I got one of those light meters, and walked around trying to measure the amount of light in the various parts of the house. I also walked out onto the patio with it. It was AMAZING the difference in the light meters from just on the other side of the door into the outside. Even at the window, the difference between the INSIDE of the house and then taking the meter outside the window was a big difference in LIGHT. So I am sure that has something to do with why they bloom better outside when all other factors are the same.

Nan...what gorgeous flowers.

Kim...just stick the pod in an envelope...roll it losely and then stick it in another envelope...shoot it in the mail. GREAT!!! I can't wait. I am growing out some H. obovata seeds a friend gave me...it is so much fun!!!

Carol

Prescott, AZ

Oh Christina I love the dimorpha !!! She is a little cutie pie.

Nan congrats on H. obscura. Mine has been outside hanging to and has put lots of wonderful new growth on, but no peduncles in sight. I'm happy just to see her grow.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Nan, your photo of H. wayettii is glorious!!! Congrats on a beautiful bloom and an excellent picture!!

Oh, SandyC, you are as bad as me - hee hee - I love it when my blooms come premade!

Ann

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks all!
I recently got a new/better camera....and I'm learning.

One thing that drives me batty when I look at hoya photos is that it's almost *always* a photo of the blooms, only. I like to see a photo of both foliage and blooms, together...though I know the plants don't always cooperate.
I had to hold the bloom up a bit....luckily I had a steady hand at that moment.

Though I covet some hoyas for their unique blooms....it's foliage that 'sells' me.

I totally agree w/you Marcy.....for many of my plants, it's only *after* they've spent a summer outdoors that they bloom.
The wayetti (is that the correct spelling?) has never been outdoors, however....so I'm especially happy to see her bloom!

Tami....keep checking (well, I know you will even without my urging!) because I said the same just a few short weeks ago.
Obscura was growing nicely with no sign of blooms....then one day, there were peduncles!
I checked again yesterday....it's getting closer to blooming, and I found a new peduncle forming! woohoo! LOL!

Agreed, too, Sandy/Ann....premade is good!
I have never seen a blooming hoya for sale, however!

Prescott, AZ

Nan, thanks for the words of encouragement, I have already checked her this morning.. twice......LOL. But I will keep a close eye on her.

Nan--Have you ordered from our Carol ?????

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh yeah!
Couple, few times, LOL!
Why do you ask, Sandy? Ü

Priest River, ID

Well if you hit her just rite you sometimes get flowers ...............HEEEE-HEEEE

Carol- Nan needs flowers on her next order....

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Well, harumph!!! LOL!!!!

Seriously, though...I've probably simply ordered the ones which were out-of-season for blooming!

I'll have to remember that...order the ones that C has recently posted blooming photos of! Ü

Thanks for encouraging her for me, Sandy!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Just had to strut and brag here.... This is my big H. deykei now almost in full flush. I counted 27 umbels, front and back in all stages of opening. The hoop is 24"... The umbels are about the size of pingpong balls.

Oh, sure...you just *had* to go and post a photo right here, right now, of one on my WANT LIST that is blooming.......din't ya?!
LOL!!

Absolutely lovely, as usual Carol. Sigh. My "must have" list grows daily. If only "Hawaii's climate" could be on the list too.....
Christine

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Carol, you should strut! That is FABUUUUUUULOUS!! I don't think it is easy to get that plant to bloom, so it is awesome that you did. I wonder if anybody else, in more "different" climates has managed to get it to bloom. Christiana, perhaps???
