It's my 1st and only bloom - so far (I hope) Guess I'll be bringing this one inside this fall, also... :)

Mine bloomed more last year as it got later in the summer and into fall--and it even continued all the way until about December (although may stop a little earlier for you if it gets cold!) Mine really surprised me last year--it was a little tiny thing I had just gotten from Logee's or Kartuz or someplace like that in a teensy pot, it was only ~6-8" tall, and it still got a number of blooms on it. So hopefully this is the first of many!

Piggy, I saw that at MVG in the spring, I picked one up at Tera's in Phoenix, it's small, but it's alive and growing! Easterly exposure, very protected, trying very hard not to keep it too wet and still get it through it's first AZ summer.
Hmmmm. I don't think I would have a spot for that, then. Easterly exposure (now don't you laugh), meaning..facing East, right? If so..I have an extremely, very small space for anything there, and it's taken by my Bats, and my Pink jasmine.
Easterly is such a primo space, believe me I know! I'm working to add more easterly spots for planting because it is. It may be to handle more, there are a couple others that have it in Phx, but I don't know where they have it planted. I'll try and find a link to a thread and dmail it to you.
I had ordered one online--year before last, they ran out and sent me pink black-eyed susan... I got mine at a nursery south of here this spring. It too was only about 6-8 in. I will be bringing it inside this fall and try to grow it inside... I like the weird stuff, I guess. I have it in part shade and the same pot I bought it in, I'll pot up soon. I thought it liked moisture..
Aw, now who doesn't just love the weird stuff, AuntB! I know I do :-) I actually think it tends to prefer the dry side of things, though, maybe someone will pop up and know for sure.

I have this one in a north exposure does not get a lot of sun. Is growing great and I have had a few blooms already.
Very pretty, marieortiz!! I love that color. LOL I need to be careful, or everything in my garden will end up being purple.
I am partial to purple too.
I'll cut back on the water once we're rid of these triple digit temps. AND pot it up, too. I like them all, purple, pink, red, yellow, orange, white, blue, green and all colors in between. Can just be foliage, too! I'm a holic! HELP

It all started as a child... that's it, it's heredity, it's in my blood... mom loved flowers, grandmas on both sides had flower gardens.... it's not MY fault... really, I'll admit it, (with right hand raised) "My name is Bonnie (AuntB to some) and I AM a plantaholic." THEN we have the internet ....gardening websites and forums..... on every plant & growing technique imagineable...(I didn't know brugmansia existed till a few years ago searching for info on a passion vine, now I have 10!) google it, ask geeves, answers.com, they'll find info and at least half a dozen sites you can buy that "gotta have" plant from.....I can justify ANY plant purchase.. I can even help you justify your addiction feeding purchases. AND then we just keep enabling one another. . . . you're right, no cure, no hope, no more fighting it ... oh well
I have no clue how I became addicted. Not in my family genes that I know of. But I definetly can blame the internet and a unamed garden forum :o)
Mine is in a pot in morning sun and afternoon shade. It's been blooming continuously quite heavily all summer. It gets watered by my overhead sprinkler every day for 45 minutes. Perhaps it's handling that much water because it's in a small pot.
'Got this one from Donna B, but I grew one earlier from a seed, then gave it away. Now I can't seem to get the seeds to grow.
They are truly a neat little flower....magenta colored.
Yeah, if it's root bound and well draining, it would certainly need that much water. Good job! But where's your pic LOL

Here's a pic of mine. It got pruned heavily when I took out the Passiflora and Bougainvillea that it was growing with, but it is coming back nicely now.
I grew this one from seed, and it is a fairly large vine now. It is a good grower and is getting huge.
I liked it with the Bougainvillea Vine, but the Bougainvillea got too large for that space and required a lot of pruning and had to be taken out.
Wow Clare! What a little monster......it seems so innocent (mine is still pretty small LOL) I love this vine.

It is Dalechampia, Paul. In the plant files.. The flowers are actually bracts. Very different.

Awesome vine, AuntB! Did you take a picture of what the bud looks like before it blooms? I just got this plant from a friend in a trade. It's been growing but I don't think I see any buds. I'll definitely have to bring it in for the winter.

Thanks Clare, now I know what to look for. Is that passiflora mixed in? I don't think the dalechampia has tri-lobed leaves....?
Congratulations AuntB on your first flower. Clare your Dalechampia is beautiful too. It's so big and full of flowers.
Mine is in a 10" pot. I already brought it in for the winter. It's starting to slow down on flowering. I think that I'm getting seed pods growing. I checked the plant files and it has seed collecting - unknown. Has anyone collected seed from this plant. What do they look like when they're ready to harvest? Also, some of the leaves are starting to yellow and fall off. I'm letting the soil dry a bit before watering so I don't believe it from overwater. Any ideas? I really like this plant and don't want to loose. Help!!
Aunt B., yes, I mentioned the Passiflora in my first post on this thread. The Passiflora "Lavender Lady" was growing together with my Delachampia vine on a Bougainvillea until I took out both the Passiflora and the Bougainvillea. The Delachampia vine was pruned at the same time. A lavender trumpet vine is still growing with it also.
Thanks, Kathy! Yes, I've collected seeds. Here is a photo with the seedpod. When the seedpod starts to turn brown, pick it and put it in a sealed envelope. It will explode when it is fully ripe. Your sealed envelope should keep the seeds enclosed the envelope; otherwise, they would fly a great distance. The seedpod is very hard but will explode open when the seeds are ready. The yellow leaves are probably from underwatering.
Thanks Clare for the warning. Now that I've brought it in the house, I'd hate to be sitting, quietly reading, only to be attacked by exploding seed pods. No attacks yet, I haven't seen any of them turn brown yet. Do you know how long they will take to flower when planted from seed?
Kathy, I also forgot to mention that the vine can be irratating to one's skin if you have sensitive skin. Someone else mentioned this, but the vines never bothered me before until I held a flower up to my neck to show my husband why it is named "Bow Tie Vine." My neck got a rash after that little demonstration.
The seedpods take a little while to develop and turn brown. They make a loud noise too when they explode. I'll be sitting in the office, and one will explode in an envelope and scare me to death. I don't collect them anymore, and they get pruned off now. It seems to me that my vine put on growth the first year and flowered a little in the second year and put on a good show in the third and subsequent years.
Clare thanks for posting pictures of the seed pods. I will have to go home and look and see if mine has any or not. :o)

Ive been away from the vine forum and here I am seeing my vine that I bought this last spring....I do not want to lose it so Im bringing it in now...can you take cuttings ?...I didnt take care of this like I should have and maybe thats why it bloomed so nicely....Im sure if I had babied it it would have died on me....I dont think Ive seen seed pods yet...Judy
No seed pods on mine. Judy I have the same affliction as you. Things live in my garden as long as I forget they are there. :o)
i've taken some cuttings of mine. I'm not yet sure they will make it, but they are staying alive thus far. If so, I should have some for trade a little later on if anybody wants one.
