Another vine I'm lusting for seeds of. =)

Kay-
I'd love to swap with you, if you get some rooted. I'd love to replace the one I lost. We've traded so many times, hopefully I can find something new to entice you still, lol...

Donna, yes, look at the close-up in my pics above, and you can see what is happening at the center of the flower. If it gets pollinated, a seed pod will form from there at the center. The two petals covering the ball now will open, turn purple, and grow bigger. The stem will probably grow some too so those leaves will be behind the flower, I would imagine.
Judy/Taylor, I tried several times to get cuttings to root without success. The vines are very thin and do not root easily. I'm sure if anyone can root them, Kay can;-) Seedpods also don't seem to come very often. I think they have to be pollinated by bees in order to set seed. I don't see any forming on mine.
Thanks, Clare. I just hope I can keep it going outside or inside to see it turn purple.

Taylor, 'good hearing from you! I've got your wisterias growing away in a pot. I need to go ahead and cut that brug you are going to trial for me, but it has a new set of buds right now. I'll get it rooted right after that. If I can get the sandpaper vine to root you know one has your name on it.
Clare, I'm going to have to try your trick with the envelope on the seed. I knew my seeds did not look like the ones you sent me. Now I know why. I did not let them ripen.

I'll trade for seeds too. =)
So...is it open, yet??...I wanna see!
Sorry, guys. I don't trade seeds or plants any longer, but Logee's has it for sale for $10: http://www.logees.com/prodinfo.asp?number=R1900-2 This vine is hard to root anyway and is best grown from seed.
I do believe my little cuttings are rooting.
Yay!
Congratulations
Fingers cross, T! I almost always think cuttings are superior to seedlings because you are sure what you are going to get.
On the other hand, some plants just seem to sort of wear out, so in that case I guess seeds might be better.
Just my thoughts.
Kay
Ohhhhhhhh if anyone does get some seeds, I would love some too...
Connie
Kay, how did you root your cuttings?
Connie I know that seeds are very hard to find and can be very expensive.

Just a note about this vine for those of you with sensitive skin like me, I spent a few minutes tucking in some vines the other day that were sticking out into the walkway. I let the vines brush across my arms and tucked them in so they wouldn't get pruned off by DH. That evening, I had a terrible rash on both arms. This happened before when I held a bloom up to my neck just for fun. I think the vines have little prickly hairs or something that causes this. I had another vine do this that I got rid of, and that one was Thunbergia greggii. This Bow Tie Vine is also a fairly aggressive grower and needs a lot of room or constant pruning in time. Vines like that don't get to live very long in my yard so this one might be coming out soon. It is beautiful though.
Donna-
ahw...how cute! Ü
(...did you see my latest post (to you) on the tacca thread?)
Thanks, Taylor. I'll go and check.
Donna, they are not fully rooted yet. I just took off the leaves except for the very top one and left at least one node to go into the potting medium. I put them in pure perlite in a plastic shoe box with holes poked in the bottom. I put it in the heaviest shade I have (which isn't saying much after Katrina's handwork), under a tree. It gets sprinkled once daily by a timed whirly type sprinkler.
'Didn't use any rooting powder. I honestly can't tell that it makes much difference, although other people swear by it.
Cross all fingers and toes that I get some good roots.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
:) Donna
Donna, How are your blooms doing? Are they opened fully yet? Do post an updated picture. They are so pretty. When I brought mine inside, all of them fell off. They are starting to send out new buds though. I guess it was just the stress of moving it.
Clare, I harvested a couple of seed pods a couple of weeks ago. The pods have still not exploded, I've tried to open one of the pods. It's so hard that I'm afraid if I do manage to open it, I might damage the seed. There's only one seed in each pod so I don't want to take a chance.
Kathy, I have one seed pod too and havent even tried to check it out yet...keep me posted on how yours does....and how are the plants doing inside?..some of mine are still outside and doing ok..I have to get the rest either cut or dragged in today or tomorrow...Judy
I bought 2 plants and both are doing great. I have one at work in a west window and I gave one to my chiropractor and they put it in a south window. Both plants have adjusted well to the inside. I brought both of them in about three weeks ago so they wouldn't be too stressed out with the move and change in temps. I know that you don't get as cold as I do being so close to the lake. Good luck with yours. Is your winter storage area full yet with all those new plants you got this year? Where are you going to put them all?
Kathy
They are pretty blooms Donna. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do. Your plant looking happy in it's winter home. I took Clare's advice and started to give my plant a little more water and it does look a lot better. I've had very few yellow leaves since. Looks like like you have an Abutilon in the background. I'm hooked on those too. Does it ever stop? I keep on seeing more plants that just have to have.
Thanks, Kathy! I know what you mean about always needing something else. Yes that is a Abutilon. I luv them.
:) Donna
Thanks for the reply Clare. I guess that patience just isn't one of my greatest virtues.
