Well hope everyone got here safely, may have a "hitch in the getalong" don't know. Anyway, there are more ways to get here than the link, so hope you find us. Geez, and last night, I just bragged about how I was enjoying this. The next time I volunteer, would someone please jerk my hand back down, and let someone else do this that has more brain cells than I do?

Anyway, what are you doing today? Me, I am freezing corn again. Glad to have it, but I need a full day outside, to rescue my flowers from the weeds that are gradually encroaching upon them. The bad thing is, I am having a church group here in less than a week, and want everything to look nice. Can some of youall, come help me for a day? I will gladly repay the favor. On top of that, have made some daylily trades with a friend, and she wants to do that tomorrow. Yikes, what have I got myself into? Well, DH does have some lights he uses for hunting occasionally, so if you see some unidentified lights from your bedroom, don't worry, it will probably be me, trying to get the weeds.

Night all.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 8a)

Mannn...everyone had a full day! I'll bet Deception Pass and area were gorgeous for Maria's trip. Hopefully I can get out before Friday...that would mean tomorrow, I mean today.
Arianna is so cute:)
We're hoping to get grandbabies some day. Our daughter had 2 miscarriages this past 6 months. We have plenty of nieces and nephews...we don't lack in the children department. We are only mid 40s, plenty of time.....right??? Brandon.. unmarried..26, Jennifer, married, lives in Vegas(where her DH was born and raised):(( and Cody who will be 21 in Oct...Yes, we did get an early start. We live with my Aunt..72..who had a stroke 4 years ago. She gets around and is mostly independent...life is crazy most of the time. We have a ShiTsu named Bo, my son's LARGE yellow cat, Duke and my Auntie's kitty CC (Claire's Cat) I'm waiting for Mr. Duke to get home right now! He is out past curfew again and I am TIRED! I don't usually get tired but I'm there tonight! My DH works in Forestry running Heavy Equipment. Most of the time he loads the logs on the log trucks. When someone asks where does he work? I look up to the hills and say, "somewhere thatawway."
Ann~ When you fly into Vancouver maybe we could all meet really quick off the freeway. I'm sure SOMEONE..cough,coughAnncough,cough, will need to use the restroom ASAP! What do you think Ernie?

Boy I'm sure glad we don't have to worry about kittens any longer...2 mommas and 13 babies once! Didn't know cats could have 8 in a litter. Our youngest boy has always LOVED cats. Hoping I'm following the story correctly...A Gracie expecting? A cat right? I should go back and make sure it's not someone's child...no, I'm too tired.....sure Gracie is a cat. And there is a Mr. B who thinks he's in love but really it's just lust??? Dog.......I do know that Arianna is a beautiful little girl:) Enjoy!!!

Ran some errands at 7am, took my Mom to physical therapy.....we came back to my place, snapped beans, I froze mine...too hot to can. Worked on some beets, sent them with my Mom to can tomorrow. Watered plants, went to the grocery for crab baite and went crabbing. It was a wonderful evening as far as the catch went but it was a bit choppy in our little 15' boat. Came home cleaned them, my twin nieces(10) wanted to spend the night...we talked about how wonderful it was for 2 little girls to be up eating crab at 11:00pm. Ahhhh..the Pacific Northwest. I have a couple pics to share...Just have to share the one of DH & DCuz and their "bag" of goodies. Someone and NO it was NOT me...forgot to grab the ice chest. Good thing we got our limits fast and weren't out far...I was so surprised how fast we limited this evening. Yack at ya'll later, K~

I think it was my beautifully decorated buoy that attracted the crab so quickly...I know it should have red, but I had to make due when due was needed.

Two days in a row?? Since somermoone was writing late, late at night in her time zone, I think I'm the first REAL morning person again if I don't type too long.

Got to 3 concerts yesterday - worked at noon, took twins at five and worked at an 8 pm.
Good concerts all, though I wasn't as happy with the children's concert as I expected. The noon concert was in a new venue - not far from where I live, but an older church which I think has some mold problems. I'll try to avoid it in the future - at least for working there because you have to be there longer. I actually signed up thinking about a different church that brass often use.

Today will be a full one. I'm working again at noon and 8 but would also like to get to as much of the 10am as I can before I have to leave for the noon (have to be there around 11). And if there is space, I'll slip into the 2 pm, but probably a bit late by the time I finish up at noon. There's another kids' concerts at 6 but we've decided that it's too difficult to arrange the transportation. DD has a committment requiring her vehicle and DH has a flight to Vancouver for a couple of day.

Anyway, I'll try to check back later. Have a good day everyone.

Well I guess I'm the second morning person since the skeeters drove me in early from the gardens. Got the horses fed and watered, time to douse with bug spray and go out again if it doesn't storm. It's thick haze and humidty and dark. Weird weather for the Adirondacks.

Went to see An Inconvenient Truth last night, I thought it was amazing. Extremely well done and thought provoking. Gore even explains why the issue seems confusing. I've often heard that "no one really agrees" among scientists about global warming (or in fact, oil depletion) but in reading the scientific studies, I've never found anything that does not agree. There is a disconnect between what the scientists are saying and what we are hearing....I'll let you figure out whether you want to seek the truth. Studies in the polar ice cap demonstrate that we are far beyond the normal fluctuations of the last 650,000 years. Wouldn't it be great if everyone did something? Even a litte something? Okay, off the soap box.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

groggy morning here - didn't sleep worth a toot, then fell into a deep sleep about the time I should have gotten up and with my mouth open...probably snored loud enough to wake the dead. Anyhow, fell cotton headed now.

Weather is foggy and humid/hot already. Just wait until the sun comes out!! I may just shut the house up and crank on the AC

Nice to read about you sommer - crabbing- now that sounds fun!! Sorry to hear about the miscariages - such a tough thing to handle. Sailboat looks beautiful...never been on one going full tilt- I'd be screaming my head off!!

Kat- fake bake is that tanless sun stuff. I always use it on my legs in the summer - got the 'no-ad' kind and it works slick. I always think I'll get out of bed and find yellow streaks, but so far it hasn't come off on anything.

Well, time to try to tame the hair (went to bed with it wet again....when will I learn!)

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Morning All!! WOW! It took me a bit to catch up from yesterday afternoon. I figured everybody was busy.

hope What a terrible thing to happen.Hope today goes much better for you and take care. We had a bit of a break with the heat/humidity. Nothing like what you get though. Your part of the country needs a break.

Katym my DH's pretties have either 4 wheels or 4 legs[hunting]He's also restoring a '67 mustang convertible. He works slow on it because he has so many other projects he works on. That way he keeps busy. I'd love to take some of that money and spend it on garden stuff.Have a good day!

defoecat My day is deadheading,picking beans and cukes, Maybe work on my bomb site if it's not to wet. The soil there is very heavy with some clay in part of it.So all in all not a very exciting day. But that's okay had enough of that when I was younger.

somermoone What a nice family.I've lived in Wi. all my life and hearing about some of what you guys do[ that live on or near the water] sounds like a fairytale to me.Not that I don't know about the other,but I'm reading about it and it makes it real. I know I sound simple!!

It's after 7. Suppose to be hot and humid today. Better go and see what I can get done before it's melting time.

Hope everybody gets the weather they need.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Morning all! Gonna be a scorcher and high humidity. No rain. LOL Told ya!
Off the the tooth cleaning shortly. Probably won't be home til around noon, as long as I'm way over that side of the county, I might as well stop at some of my favorite stores.

Ves, if your DH is looking for Mustang parts, my DH is a pro at hunting them down for other car fanatics. He's restored several, sold one to a guy in England, (said his wife would be real surprised...she was, she divorced him!!) and has a good line on hard to find parts, NOS, and some originals. I think we have enough spare parts to do another car, but he still keeps up with his contacts for others. His website is sewimustangs.com, and there are all kinds of photos of the house, cats, etc. as well as his cars.

Ooops,gotta hit the road. See what's going on later when I get home.
~~~~ as I run for the door!!
G'Morning everyone...
I'm in less of a snit today. Over the telephone I have hired a man and his wife to do odd jobs starting tomorrow. He will put down the boards in the attic and put the boxes from the porch up there. His wife will wash these nasty windows and screens while he's doing that. Then we'll start moving the remaining boxes out of the storage unit.
I hope they work out. He has some construction experience and I'd like to start on my building inside the barn next week. It will be 10 x 24, used for storage. I had thought to wrap it in 1/8 inch hardware cloth to keep mice out but that much hardware cloth would cost more than all the lumber. Instead I'll put up sheetrock and just caulk all the seams rather than finishing the seams. The outside will be wrapped in plastic because there are a few small holes in the metal roofing. If the man is agile I may get him up on the roof with patching compound.
I really would rather re-side the barn and put a floor in half of it but we don't have enough money this year. That still wouldn't give me a storage area to keep mice out though.
I have a whole list of errands to run today but I'm not ready to get started. Might be another lazy day, LOL. I seem to have a lot of those lately.
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Sheila - you can have our rain. Don't need it with Chamber music line-ups and hiking from one downtown church to another all day.
Ann
Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)
m5 Thanks much for the info. Probably make my DH feel like he's flying!~~~~~~~~~
darius we all deserve as many days off as we need when we work that hard. Hope the couple you hired works out. You've got alot ofwork to do.
Yes I'm still in tne house.I think I'm putting it off.
OOPS!!
Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Good morning!
Out watering and putting miracle gro on everything. Its 78 in the shade and its only 7:41 am. Humid too. I'll go back out after I'm done dripping and deadhead awhile.
Sarv did I say 1001 bulbs???? Oh gosh no, I'm not that ambitious. 101 bulbs. If I'd ordered 1001 bulbs I would be in divorce court by the end of the week lol.
Thank you everybody who commented on my DGB as adorable, beautiful etc. She's my first so that makes her so special to me. She is exhausting though and only 10 months. She's gonna be something else wqhen she hits the terrible twos. She's her mothers daughter through and through. Seeing as DH is my second marriage, he's never had any kids (57yo) My kids have been quite a transition for him. Arianna loves her papa though and he's in 7th heaven. Had a fit that I turned our living room into a nursery. Play pens walkers swings baby toys the lot. I bought all over the course of a year. He said I was being ridiculous. Your not having the baby. Why have her drag stuff over here when she already has it here. DD is the oldest of 4. I'm sure I'll have more than one grandchild over the course of the next 20 years. I still need to get a car seat and stroller though. I even bought her a childs picnic table and a Dora table and chair set. Still in box all of it. For next summer but they were on sale at HOBO and I just couldn't pass it up. Oh well. No boring every one about my DGB any more
Somermoon Lots of time yet. I'm 50 almost 51. I made DD promise not to make me a grandma too early and she just turned 25. I didn't want to be a grams at 50 it just worked out that way, and now I wouldn't trade the the title for all the money in the world.
Well I must ~~~~~~~~~~~~to everybody else. I've cooled off and time to get back out while its still early. Have a good day all. BBL Cherie
Well, I've been up awhile, and went out to sweep the front portch, there is a nice breeze blowing, so gonna take advantage of that and get out and work in the flowers, the corn can wait one more day.
No time to comment, as I have 2 people coming to pick up some things for church, and I don't want them to find me in my gown and robe.
Yep, still inside. I've gotten lazy. Its cool in here with the a/c on and its getting cloudy any way. News said that there was a chance of scatered showers. They even explained that as meaning out of 7 southeastern counties 2 might see some rain this fine day. Whopeee I've already watered so go ahead rain. Its just I don't feel energetic any more. Maybe I'll go read a book or something. Hope all has a wonderful day. As soon as unlazy hits I'll be off outside I guess. ~~~~~~~~~~Cherie
DH finally went back to work this morning. Half day and light duty. I am so happy to have him out of the house.
I have been trying to keep up with reading the posts but I usually only get a couple read at a time before something needed to be done.
Maria, I hope you have a safe trip home. Glad that you had such a wonderful time with Ernie and Linda.
Cece, I agree your DGD is adorable. I can wait to have the grandbabies. My best friends daughter is 19 and due in November. Life is so hard on her and her DH right now and adding a baby to the mixture is going to really put them to the test. I hope they make it. My oldest is not quite 19 and I am hoping for another 10 years before I hold the title of Grandma.
Somermoone, so glad to get to know you better. I would be in hog heaven being able to go crabbing daily. My DH and kids dont care for seafood at all so it would be all for me. LOL What high school did your DH graduate from. I went to Rancho class of 1981.
Darius, glad you found some extra help to give you a hand around there. You are making such strides in getting things done now while the weather is still allowing. Do you know if that area get alot of snow in the winter? months?
Sarv, doesn't the fake bake come off in the shower? I remember kids using it when I was in high school. With having to clean the pool I get enough sun to not need it here.
Today is my youngest son's 12th birthday. We are having a BBQ/pool party for him at 3 on Saturday. You all are welcome to come. He has requested for chicken caccitore for dinner so we will be having just finger foods and snacks for the party.
Hope all that are in the garden get all the weeding and deadheading done before the heat takes ahold of you. I need to get off here and get the pool cleaned and gardens watered. ~~~~ to all I missed, have a great day all.
This was edited to correct my bad spelling. It had said "I would be in hog heaven being able to go crapping all day" instead of crabbing. Had to change that since I do enough crapping around here to get my daily dose in.
LOL, Casey... being able to go "crapping" all day??
Somer, I crabbed a lot when I lived in Maryland. Different crabs (Blue Crabs), but tasty!
My neighbor came and plowed a fall garden area for me this morning! Now just have to get someone to till it when it dries a little. My yard man showed up, put some of the boards and boxes in the attic while waiting for the grass to dry more. Life is good some days!
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
LOL at the crapping too - I do that daily and I'm proud of it LOL
Darius- how do you find these 'handy men'? I'd love someone to come over and do all the little chores around here that I can't do. DH doesn't seem intersted - maybe he would be if I hired someone to do them....
It is SO humid here today...and I went to coffee with the girls and forgot my deodorant. There were ten of us and we were squished together. Much too big a group to listen to everyone. I had to call my friend who was sitting at the other end of the table just to hear what that end talked about..
One of the gals with the new Mc Mansion did something so rude. She invited two of the gals/husands to dinnner - the rest of us just sat there...She is into 'money' and obviously we don't meet her criteria. I really like her, but this fault of hers is trying sometimes. Each of us has faults, so I try and overlook hers, unless my nose is rubbed in it... Oh well.. my other best friend wasn't invited. We decided to go to instead and have lunch. She's poorer than a church mouse,but has a heart as big as the moon.
Just heard from ornery DIL. Wonder of all wonders, they are going with us out to my brothers boat tomorrow. I can't believe it- they never do anything with the family. But I think I know why. She is expecting and I mentioned once that they never do anything with the family and I was uncomfortable about asking family to come to showers in her honor. (didn't tell this to her- just DS) She wants a shower.... Oh well....
Well, time to look in the frig for something for lunch.
carat- glad DH is back to work, but he likes getting out of the house too!!
cc_ I have more toys in my house than when I had kids!! Mine are all boy toys, so if the new one is a girl, I'll have to go back out garage saleing. I don't have a car seat or swing anymore, so I'm on the lookout for those.
BBL
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Okay, in for a bit of lunch, yogurt and a cool drink. I have been out weeding 1 flower bed in front of the house, and I have dumped one wheelbarrow full, and have almost another one full. Honestly, it didn't look that bad. There was a nice breeze blowing earlier, it still is, but the sun has come out, and it is heating up. I still need about another 2 hours weeding, and it will be presentable for company inspection.
Darius, glad you are getting some help. How in the world do you find these people? What currency are you paying in? hehe
Sarv, that is the rudest thing I have ever heard. If I was gonna invite some and not others, I would give them a call at home, instead of with the group. Sounds like money is all she has, sure doesn't have any manners or tact.
Casey, glad that your DH is back to work, more importantly for you both, that he is out of the house for awhile. DS's birthday dinner sounds good. However, I will have to pass on the invite, cause by the time I got there, it would be pretty crispy, just sitting there.
cc, I was wondering what kind of idiot you were planting the 1001 bulbs, glad to hear it was 100. I just love your "unlazy"term, by the way, how do you know when it has passed? The desire to move again?
ves, did you say bomb site? A real bomb shelter, please explain, do you think the rest of us need to be doing the same?
Sommermoone, great pictures, and crabbing to boot. Wish I had access to fresh seafood, just love it.
dmc, to me that kind of movie is too much. When I go to a movie, I want to be entertained, not given a dose of something that I have to chew on for awhile.
Viann, hope you have good concerts today, great parking, and good weather.
hope, I just hate it when I see an animal killed on the road. Some idiot pet owners, evidently don't care enough for their pets to keep them safe. Maybe this was a feral though, and not much can be done there.
Mr B has decided he is not in love anymore. He finally came in this morning, and is now sprawled across my foot as I type. He has lost weight, and is exhausted. Guess that's what love does to most of us!! Bet he will sleep for a week, but I will give him today, and then he gets the dreaded "bath". He is so dirty, from running through the flower bed that is right in front of that dog run.
Okay, lunch break is over, and I need to get back outside for a couple of hours. ~~~ to those who I might have missed.
Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)
defoecat The bomb site is where we dug out all the ditch lilies. When we were done I went back out and looked at it. "BOMB SITE" came to mind. I'm redigging it for roots,rocks glass and metals. Which we should of done from the start. Live and learn. So you're safe . No bomb site for you or the rest.
Well morning all have watered and staked a few tomatoes , Harvested the second wheel barrow of onions and now I am Taking Maria for a ride up the Mount Baker national forest way . The ride will or if the road is open include a stop at the Nooksack river falls.
Karen me thinks that bouy belongs on a boat not a crab pot lol but hey whatever works to get bart right I have even used milk jugs in a pinch and to stop or at least slow the pot robbers used drift wood , Ernie
defoe,
Yes I become unlzy when the deire to get up and do gets too strong. Usually I can't sit still for longer than 15 minutes at a time and doing something. I think it had to do with having the 4 kids each one wanting or doing something so I had no peace of mind til 2 am. After the divorce I had not only housework, laundry and kis but also a job plus going to school with hoemwork. I was always busy. After Kohls foods closed DH (wasn'thubby at time) paid for me to go back to school, take refresher courses for what I'd already had and 2 years later I graduate at 49yo as a Medical assistant. Got certified in June of 2005 and have been looking for a job ever since. ONly..............I getting to like the lazy part and when I get the sudden urge to move......unlazy begins.
Its amazing how fast weeds can grow and were they get into, isn't it? I'm learning now that I was crazy to want 13 beds. Nah...................I want more to weed. If I can't get a job might as well enjoy flowers.....
Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)
Hi everyone,
I was just too tired to post yesterday. After coming home, getting supper ready and packing up that candle order, I had had it!
darius, thanks for the tip on the Rescue Remedy. I'd heard of it, but had never tried it and would never even have thought of giving it to the cats. I wouldn't think that it would cause any problems if the cat is going to be given anesthesia, but do you know for sure? One of the reasons (besides the insane cost!) I've been reluctant to have their teeth cleaned is that they have to be put under in order to have it done and I'm afraid that's kind of risky for the older ones.
I'm having one of those days. Besides dealing with the horrid weather along with many of you, I had to get an early start so that I could get to my store, finish taping and addressing the box, run the credit card for the order, then go back out to the Post Office and get the thing shipped. Got that done, came back to the store and started getting ready to open. A customer appeared at the door a few minutes early so I let him in then proceeded to hit the cash drawer with my head as I was transferring the change fund into it. Crash! Coins everywhere! After picking all that up and dealing with the customer, I went on about my business for quite awhile. I did kind of wonder what about not hearing from one of my suppliers who calls in for my order on Thursday mornings, but thought they just might be extra busy. Then I happened to glance at the page pertaining to the order I'd just sent out and suddenly realized that I had addressed it to the billing address, not the shipping address. Aaaauuuuuggghhh! Tried to find the number for the Post Office, picked up the phone ------ phone was dead. I finally found the problem, one of my line splitters had come loose. Fixed that and discovered that the number I had for the P.O. was no longer valid. Got the call from my supplier who'd been trying to call all morning and was worried that my DH had taken a turn for the worse or something along those lines, as nobody was answering my phone (it still seemed to be ringing on the caller's end of the line). Said DH hit the door just about then having come flying back here since he couldn't get an answer here either. He said he was envisioning me in a heap at the bottom of the cellar stairs or something equally exciting, as he knew I was here, having dropped me off earlier. The only GOOD thing about this whole comedy of errors was that DH was then able to return to the Post Office with a new address label before the package was sent out. Phew!
V-ann, hope your weather cooperates with all that running around that you're doing presently. At least it sounds as though you're enjoying most of the concerts.
Bonnie, I'm glad that Mr. B has decided he's had enough of "unrequited love"! Poor thing is probably totally exhausted.
Casey, wow, I'm amazed that your DH is back to work so soon after back surgery! Has the pain eased off? I sure hope that he didn't go through all that for nothing if it wasn't the cause after all. I think someone said that you were going to find out more from the doctor tomorrow ---- is that right? Please let us all know how things are going.
That reminds me, my DH won't be seeing the podiatrist until August 9th. We've got our fingers crossed that he'll be able to go back to work very soon thereafter. One bit of good news on that front. Trader Joe's carries temporary disability insurance for their workers and we were just informed that DH's claim was approved and that we'll be getting a check from the insurance company. That sure will help some!
Hi somermoone, nice paint job on the buoy! The bay looks gorgeous, but I think I could do without a ride on that boat.
sarv, do you think that your friend meant to put you all down or was she just oblivious? I can't see why she couldn't have waited and called those she wished to invite.
Hi to everyone I didn't address by name. I'll try to get back later. Try to stay cool!
Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)
Hey Mc Cool-sounds like a crazy day for you already, hope that's past and it's gotten better. The heat's getting to me, may be time for a siesta by the fan!
Home again, half an hour to clean my teeth and the other half to catchup with family doings and such. Nan is such a sweetie, and her DD is now working in the same office until she goes off to college in PA in a few weeks. Nan says she's looking forward to being an empty nester!
Cece, woohoo, another HOBO customer. One of my favorite stops. We did all our ceramic tile with tile we got there, Two bathrooms, foyer, laundry room, and had enough left over for my DS to do his bathroom. And we did it ourselves! We could not have afforded the $5000 it would have cost to have a mason do the work, and I have to say, we did a good job. "You never know what you will find there but you will always find it for less" LOL
Caught a cloudburst going through New Berlin on my way home, but not a drop here.
Sarv, that really is the max in rudeness, just goes to show you money can't buy class. I don't know if I could have kept my mouth shut, but then you are a nicer person than I. LOL I might have said, after the limited invitation was made, "Since the rest of us are free that night, why don't we get together and have a potluck dinner at my house?". No point in being subtle with anyone that insensitive. I bought some fakebake today too,,,,legs don't match arms, and it does look odd. I hope it isn't the stuff that looks orangey.
And I got nuts and scheduled a perm. I' m prepared for failure, but this gal thinks she can give me a "natural" wave. If it doesn't work out I'll just get it cut real short. If you hear a loud shriek from the Midwest next week Tuesday about 4 p.m. CDT, it's me and it didn't work out.
DGS is now a Vidalia Onion Relish addict, Elaine....he saw the jars on the counter so I took out a spoonful and gave him a sample, and he loved it. So, then he insisted on buying a jar from me....so I made him a couple of hot dogs to put some on....he left here a happy guy.
Ernie you reminded me I need to put up trellises to stake up my tomato plants before they start growing sideways. There's green tomatos but far far from being ripe. Glad you had such a nice visit with Maria. I'm picturing her reunion with Samson.....she better grab a hold of something so he doesn't knock her over!
Darius, you are a genius at finding handy helpers, around here you are lucky if they even answer the phone, let alone show up to do the work. Is tomorrow Gracie's visit to the vetspital? I'm hoping she just has a belly full of worms and not kittens. Poor little girl.
Well, I've wasted a half a day so far, so I should do something useful. Maybe go tackle the trellis chore. water. weed. Whatever.
Hello to all the people I didn't address by name, and any lurkers who are too timid to jump in a make a comment.....
McCool, he didn't have the actual surgery yet. Last Friday they stuck needles into the disc's, to both extract some fluid for testing and to inject a dye for an MRI or cat scan (cant remember which one right now). Then they cut two small incision on either side of the injured discs to put a camera on a wire in there to video tape the damage so when the surgeons do go in there will be less surprises. We go to the surgeon tomorrow and he should have the results of all the tests and will be able to tell us exactly what the plan of attack is and when.
Darius, I had to go back and read the post to find out what you were talking about. I do enough crapping around here so I am not to jealous of that feat. I will go back and edit when I am done here. LOL
What the heck is a HOBO store????
Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)
SARV---- Tell her to take a long hike. People who got a lot of money and think that they are somehow better make me angry. Life is a throw of the dice. I do not care how hard you work and how many smart moves you think you make. Your never safe. I do not have money. but I have friends who have enough to buy and sell some of these uppity people. Let me give you a couple of examples.
One couple are so down to earth you would think they were native hillbillies. Well they are, but you see he moved to the big city as a young lad and learned something about metals and heat treating working in a foundry. He owned the foundry before he was done as a part of his overall bussiness. Every month they allow so much money for fun allowance to blow on stuff. The allowance is $3600.00 a month.
Another couple are real nice people and if you met them you would never suspect they had any money. But if you went to the $800k + home they have here for as a part time home you would. They owned 14 Mac Donalds in a chain up in IL and Wisc.
And my last couple of friends I will not say what they do because they still do it. The company they own is the nations largest and leading in that field. They are real involved in helping people and they do it so quietly you never know it. They are not above dirty hands either.
I appreciate people like that. I come from the Coal miner stock in IL. My father went down in those mines at at the age of 9. He had to, since the whole family working down there working could not pay the company store. It was just like Tennesse earnie Sang in the song 16 tons. Terrible things went on in coal mine comunities.
So if she is uppity just cut her off so she knows her place.
Holy Cow, we just had a thunderboomer move through here that blew like a tornado, moved the pots on my deck, and dropped pea sized hail. Shut off the big tv, the computer power strips, and kept an eye out the window! It's calmed down now but it's still raining a little. I had called DH at work to ask if it was raining there, he's miles west/south, and he said it had been raining for about a half hour. Then the emergency sirens went off there, and they all had to leave for the shelters, so I knew we were likely to get something big.
Our rain gutter on the upper garage drains down through a pipe in the ground, and comes out below the rock wall next to the lower driveway. Here's what the water looked like spouting upwards from the deluge!!
Hi everyone. I spent the morning sorting and herding some of your steaks down the road. We started at 5:30 and had the job done by 10, before it got hot. All but one cow was cooperative, one we were leaving with the cows and calves, she thought we were taking her calf with the part of the herd that was going down the road, jumped through a gate (needs repair but the cow is ok, tough hide) and after she checked and was sure we didn't have her calf she turned around and went back. I continued down the road with the yearlings while the owner went to get her back where she belonged, with her calf who was there all the time, and repair the gate well enough to keep the rest of the herd where they belonged. After all of that it was easy.
Compared to people relations cows are easy. Whoever said that money can't buy class is absolutely right. And Oz, I also know some very nice rich people, the kind that help people and are pleasant to be around. One fellow owned a construction company in Alaska, he had to learn the business really fast when his father passed away and he inherited it. I think I knew him a couple of years before I realized he was at least a millionare! My husband's family were coal miners. His granddad came out west in the middle 1920's and his mom and dad followed in 1929. They had a small dairy farm, made it through the depression because they grew a garden, fished and canned anything they could get their hands on, had milk, cream and eggs to trade for other things, patched clothes, darned socks, and made it through! All those kids have a good work ethic. None of them ever wanted to go back to the coal fields. My husband came along after the depression, the youngest of the 4 kids, and the only one not born in Va or West Va.
Darius, I hope your helpers get a lot done and turn out to be the kind of people you will want to hire again.
Somermoone, I can almost smell the salt water looking at those pictures. Oh, fresh dungeness crab, very tasty, my favorite kind. I tasted the east coast blue ones, didn't care for them at all, and I like the dungeness better than snow crab or kings. The east coast oysters didn't taste right either, I grew up in the Puget Sound area and I guess my tastes are pretty well set. Except for lobster, I could eat a lot of them. Also have had shrimp from Louisiana, they were cooked Cajun style, ummm, those were good!
McCool, what a wild morning you had. I hope the rest of the day was nice and tame.
The air is a bit hazy and I can smell smoke from a forest fire that is about 40 miles southeast of us. It was almost 9000 acres last night, I haven't checked the status today.
I'd better get out to the garden for another session of weeding and watering. I filled and dumped a contractor size wheelbarrow and still have enough weeds to fill it a few more times! Making progress tho. My corn is making tassles and I see little ears with silk, and I saw (but didn't check) a red tomato. I was out there for about an hour, came inside to cool off, got Patch his ride for the day and came in to cool off with ice cream and read all the posts here. So, off I go again. ~~~
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
McCool, really a wild day... I'm sure you will laugh about it later!
M5, Gracie goes in a week from tomorrow, doesn't seem to be increasing in size that I can tell.
Sarv, there's a weekly paper here called Trade Times. It's free to advertise in it, and costs 95¢ to buy. Lots of ads in many categories, but most of the "Services Offered" are for baby sitting or elder sitting or lawn mowing, seldom more for odd jobs. I'm looking at a couple of ads now for sawmill lumber, and a roll-up door.
Tomorrow might be a nightmare. Mike (my yard man) told me his wife was laid off today and would come help him tomorrow afternoon with the attic stuff and emptying the storage unit. Since I already hired another couple for the same work, it could get dicey.
Like most folks, my family had it rough during the depression. No coal miners, just midwest farmers who couldn't grow anything in the dust bowl. My grandaddy, who had been a county ag agent, worked as a scab on the railroad in Idaho to feed his family of 6 kids. South Florida, where they went in 1925, must have seemed like Paradise where anything would grow. I have a great photo of him as a young man when he coached the basketball team in Dodge City.
Casey, when I took the Bach Flower classes they emphasised that the remedies either have a positive effect or none at all. No negative effects reported for 80+ years.
~~~ at everyone else!

m5- your rain just arrived here!! I just finished giving all my gardens a shot of mighty plant!! Oh well, it went from the leaves to the ground - hopefully it will still do them good. It was so hot here today that "I" went in the pool!! Now it wasn't a pretty sight, but man oh man, did that water feel great!!! I did find out that the elastic on the top of my suit is shot, so I am tossing it in the trash after I get out of it. DH joined me in the pool -he had some goopy looking stuff in his hair - ended up it was shampoo - he was taking his bath in the pool. Laughed at that one.

I'm laughing now about not being invited out for the 'dinner'!! I don't think this girl realizes how rude she is sometimes- but she's really a social climber and I'm not. I could care less. She does have a big heart in many ways, but to her 'money' talks.

Now let me tell you about another of my so called 'friend' and the baby shower. This 'friend' and I have been friends(using the word friend loosely here!) for years - our children were born the same month and she lived next to me for 20 yrs. However, she is the most bigoted person I know. She professess to be a 'Christian", but she is the lousiest "Christian' I have ever known. She is so judgemental of others - and she is always the best in everything (she says...) and her children are perfect (she says) She has always said unkind things about my DH, and my DS's, but I've always just dismissed it knowing how she is. You can't be better than 'best' anyhow!!! LOL

My DIL had her first child 9 yrs ago and didn't marry my DS until last summer (it was his child too) It never would have worked out earlier, so it was a blessing they didn't jump into it. This friend told me how awful it was that we were having a bridal shower for this girl (she was a sinner you know) and since she didn't have any shower or anything with our first DGS, I am sure we will have one for this baby. She told me 'people won't want to come to the shower because she has a child already.' (another sin) I replied (and you would have been proud of me) that my REAL friends would come to a shower because they know that life throws you some curves sometimes. I promptly decided to terminate the conversation before I told her what a creep she was...I sometimes wonder why I continue this friendship !!!

My very best friend is extremely wealthy, but she is the dearest, most thoughtful, generous person I've ever met. She's my true friend, unlike the other one above.

Oz -I'd tell her to take a long hike, but she has bad feet LOLLOL

I may have to get some of the vidalia relish - where did you get it M5?

DH just hollared that brats are done, so I better sign off and eat. Oh here's a good one for you. I thawed out a package of brats in the microwave and he thawed out another pkg in the sink! Ten brats for the two of us - come on over everyone!!!

hey there all!
I spent the afternoon slaving over a whirring food processor! My basil plants are just huge so it's time to start chopping. I made 4 cups of pesto so far (2 batches) and I'm not finished with the first plant yet! I freeze it in ice cube trays, then pop the cubes into freezer bags. Two or three cubes and a can of tomatoes and you have wonderful sauce. My whole family is big on pesto.

I picked whole bowl of cherry and plum tomatoes! Not enough for sauce but I think I'll make a pot of pasta and toss it with pesto and cubed fresh tomatoes. No one home but my 15 year old vegetarian daughter and me.

WE also had our first cukes today, long gone sorry (I ate one before I got out of the garden).

What is a HOBO Store? Did I miss it twice???

sarv-lots of great comments above about your insecure friend. She's not about money, she's about insecurity and desperately trying to grab an image she envies. People who actually have real money are usually pretty low key about it. Well, there are always louts, but all the stories of everyone's coal miner dads and the hardships, well, those are people with character, and most of them probably would have had enough to share despite their poverty. I got tired of having to tippy toe around fragile egos with their spotless McMansions and size 2 designer wardrobes. Pretty shallow!

darius-fingers crossed your day works out tomorrow. It would not be good to have a spat between your workers....I think it's so great you are actually getting people to work!

Hope Maria, Elaine, Twyla, suzieq and the others who didn't post today are doing well.

Carat-Glad the DH got back to work.

McCool- Hope your day got better!

m5-Thanks for the story about the foundation building with your stepfather. Just amazing. I always remember things like that when things seem tough, and the coal miner stories, etc. We are truly blessed.

Hi everyone
Gosh I just finished reading everything and sounds like everyone has had an exciting day. However I do think McCool has won the prize! LOL

McCool, I'm so sorry you've had such a trying day. I hope you'll be able to sit down and prop your feet up for a minute when you get home. So glad to hear about the insurance for your DH. :-) I *know* that's a relief to hear.

Wow Meezers, I never expected that relish to be such a hit. Of course we sure did enjoy the cheese curds and sausage. I put a pack of them in the freezer and pulled them out not long ago. It was *really* nice to have them stuck back to munch along on. We can't get them way down south. Go figure! LOL

Darius, glad to hear you're making progress still.

Ooops, got to go. Weather is *bad!

Quick, I've got meat on the grill
HOBO is the Homeowners Bargain Outlet, they have overstock, obsolete, close outs kind of like Big Lots, only it's all house stuff, flooring, rugs, marble and ceramic tile, paint, cleaning supplies, mops brooms, cabinets, hardware, miscelleneous junk . It's like a scavenger hunt but sometimes really good buys.

Hey m5. That thunderboomer wreaked havoc on my gardens. My phlox are flattened, part of my coneflowers too. My coreopsis is flatened and the rest look somewhat forlorn as well. So depressed. 4 inches here in Wauikesha city with flooded roads and some power lines down. Sunset (the road I live on) was closed from West Ave to 59 bypass for limbs and water in the streets. Fox river is still flowing over so they're warning people to stay away from downtown. Birght side???? if established plants only need a inch of water per week.... I don't have to water for 4 weeks, right? Right. lol I'm really depressed because my gardens were looking okay, ya know???? Least I didn't lose tree limbs like next door. My maple are strong characters, I guess. Bye

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

cece, what a mess! But, gardens usually rebound.

I heard on the news tonight that there's yet another overturned tractor trailer on the interstate in my town, blocking all lanes again. That makes FOUR in 3 weeks, and the road is not treacherous!

Idiots on the roads. I worried about that all the way to Bristol and back, esp. with light rain. My trip was uneventful; I got more floor paint to finish up, some odds and ends and then some groceries.

Insecure friends and/or biased friends don't deserve the nomenclature.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Someone asked about the Vidalia Onion relish, and due to my total lack of brainpower I can't remember who....they have an 800 number and a sweet young lady will answer the phone and tell you what they have, prices and shipping. You have to order at least 4 things, and shipping is for western states is $6, others are $4. If anyone is super interested I'll scan the sheet they sent me and dmail it to you. I tell ya, it's a treat!!

Dorothy, we saw An Inconvenient Truth too and thought it was extremely well done, all facts, backed up by photos of the shrinking snow caps on mountains, and melting icebergs in the polar regions, and agree we are in big trouble if it continues at the accelerated rate shown.

It's late, I don't know how this day got away from me but it sure did, and I'm off early tomorrow morning too. My schedule is interfering with my DG time!

Have a good night everyone, see you tomorrow some time....
Sheila

Whew! It must be the night for storms! Cece I'm sure mine didn't reek the havic on my garden that yours did ... but gosh it sure was a pretty bad one. I won't know what damage was done until tomorrow when the baby and I can get out and take a look around. I'm sure I heard a bit of hail, though. Oh yeah ... and it rained cats and dogs too! LOL

dmc, that pesto sure sounds good to me. I didn't have any luck with my basil this year. Not sure why ... but it just didn't seem to be my year for it.

Went to PT today and was promptly fussed at for not wearing my splint and when I explained I couldn't type with the $&#% thing on ... they commenced to whittling and bending the thing, so now I'm actually doing a passible job although be it slow. After leaving there, I went out with my in-laws for lunch. Then had coffee with some friends this afternoon. Didn't have to worry about supper.

Casy, just want you to know I'll be thinking about your DH and of course you too tomorrow as y'all find out what will be facing you with his back surgery.

Defoe, so glad Mr. B didn't lose toooo much weight while being in love. LOL

Hi Ann, hope you didn't get any of this nasty weather way up your way while you're flying from concert to concert. :-)

Maria, I don't have to ask you how your day was ... cause I know it was lovely and you're hating to have to say those good-bye's tonight. Oh but I can just see that great big smile on Samson's face when you get home. I guess you know you're gonna get a bath! LOL

Well, I've just got to say thanks to Mary for shipping those steaks out my way! It helps to put things in perspective when I see what all you go through. Although my Grandparents had a farm, and I still have memories of it ... it's from a child's view and I always enjoy your postings so much. I can just picture that poor Mama jumping that fence calling out for her baby. Don't you know she was all stressed out thinking her baby was gone. :-(

Well, think I'd better get up and move around a bit. Sorry if I didn't speak to everyone but I'm ~~~~ !!
