Well lots of us know right from wrong it would seem.

Sarv----- Why would you want to go out to dinner anyway if they were not serving some health bread loaded with fat filled peanut butter.

Hi Folks,

Well i got away about 9:15 this morning. Had to time it just right because we have this summer tourist show called the "Changing of the Guard" on Parliament Hill. Every day in the summer at 10:00 am. The guardsmen (members of two real military regiments - my SIL was a member when a student) march from the drill hall with a band. (The band is a plum summer job for university music students). Anyway, if you time it wrong, you'll be sitting there waiting for them to pass and their route takes them by all the entrances to the National Arts Centre parking garage. So, allowing 12-15 minutes to walk to the church, and timing it so I neither got stopped nor had to stand in line for the concert was interesting.

First concert was all Mozart. A couple of short pieces for strings - a violin and cello duo and a two violin and cello trio. Then the "meat" of the program, a reduction of the Symphony #40 for piano, flute, violin and cello. Interesting! Concert followed by coffee, but I had to be at another church in 10 minutes and it was a 12 minute walk; so I downed a fast one and hit the sidewalk.

Worked stage at noon at a concert of tubas and piano. Various arrangements of musicians - tuab quartet, tuba duet with narrator and piano, several solos, tuba trio and back to tuba quartet. The stage people had to adjust something EVERY number - a music stand or the microphone. We were kept hopping. But I like working brass concerts. I know most of the musicians from Ottawa Symphony, except for 4 tubas a couple were from out of town. But brass players don't take themselves too seriously and they aren't afraid to move a music stand a bit like some musicians are prima donnas.

Downed a meal replacement bar and hiked to another church which, surprise, turned out to be newly air-conditioned. But the concert was boring. It was entirely of Haydn Baryton trios. From Wikipedia - "The baryton is an obsolete bowed stringed instrument, in regular use up until the end of the 18th century. Its size is comparable to that of a violoncello; it has seven or sometimes six bowed strings of gut, plus from nine to twenty-four sympathetic wire strings (most often twelve). It is rarely played today.

Joseph Haydn wrote 175 compositions featuring the baryton. These were for his patron, Prince Nicholas Esterhazy, who could play the baryton. They are mainly trios for viola, cello and baryton and have a dark silvery tone and a refined, restrained air." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baryton

I was surprised to see that this concert had an intermission because most daytime concerts don't and are about an hour long. I listened to the first two trios. Very fine instrumentalists all, but I don't know why the violist and cellis didn't use baroque instruments or at least bows to blend with the baryton. I stayed for the first two trios and decided I'd heard enough. Came home and hit Seniors' Thursday at the local drug store (20% off all regularly priced items).

This evening I was working stage at a small, wonderful sounding, but very WARM church. Great concert of a Faure Piano quartet and the Dvorak Piano Quintet. Love the Dvorak and once started to work on it with a group just before I had a freak shoulder injury about 5 years ago. Great concert.

I acquired a small pedometer last month, but had never gotten it set up. I decided it was time I did so. It takes me about 1538 steps to a kilometre. I covered 14725 steps or 9.6 km (nearly 6 miles today). I noticed the noon concert was nearly 2000 steps. The evening one was quite a bit more because the lights are at the other end of the church from where the musicians' green room is.

Tomorrow I'm not working unless they let me know that they need someone. Planning to do aquafit at 8am and go to concerts at noon, two and eight pm.

Better get a bath and get to bed.

Have a good night.

Ann

Viann you have a fery interesting life, I'm in awe. Sounds like you had a wonderful time and that is really all that matters not isn't it?

Interesting night here. I walked around all my gardens.........there's so many things beat down. Hoping they'll survive and spring back up. 4" of rain in 40 mins. They were showing home videos on the news and there were some cars with water up to their windows. It wasn't that bad on this side of town but bad enough. I could just cry to see may beautiful flwers beat down like that. Especially my bee balm. Tomorrows another day so I guess I shoud go. Talk to all in the morning. Cherie

Ann, I just lost 5 pounds reading your post! LOL Honestly you must be *tiny* ... staying at that pase all the time.

Hello again all. This day has been a long and productive one. I went out and weeded, and weeded and weeded. Got all the flower beds done except 2. I have corn to freeze tomorrow, it is shucked, silked and sitting here ready to be put into the boiling water first thing in the morning. DH mowed late this afternoon, and everything is looking great. So maybe the church group will enjoy being here looking at flowers instead of weeds next Thursday.

Sorry about those who got too much rain/storms today/tonight. Plants are really resiliant ? and will probably bounce right back, but sometimes it does take a couple of days, so don't give up, if they are not upright in the morning.

Viann, you put us all to shame with the way you dash around. I haven't worn my pedometer recently, but some days, i walk 5-6 miles, and that is just a normal day.

I01, hurray, for the splint adjustment, if it still bothers you, take it off and do your own adjusting. You know when it "feels good" and you have more freedom. shhh they will never know it.

Well, can't respond to all, my brain is beginning to fog, so ~~ to all I have not called by name.

McCool, you sure took the prize for today's comedy of errors. Hope tomorrow is a lot better.

Now going to get the daily up, be back shortly.

Meezer, I did a search and unfortunately for me HOBO are only in WI and IL. Lucky for you that they are though.
I must have visited the Habitat for Humanity store in Charlotte at least 10 times while I was there. I am going to be spending alot of time there I think.

Vann, I told DD about all the concerts and stuff you are going to and she is going to look into maybe going to Canada in the next couple of years to see it herself. I am so glad that you are enjoying yourself so much. Did I read that you are taking the twins to some of the concerts also. That is wonderful. I think the reason that the three of my kids love all types of music is because we made sure they heard it all in our home. That is, all but Rap. I have limits.

Sarv, I also have alot of friends that are well off and not hurting for money. None of them would ever have treated a person the way your co-luncher did. I worked in the school area that we here call snob hill. It is home to Celine Dion, David Cassidy, Gladys Knight and many more celeb's and at no time being around them as parents and grandparents did they ever treat a person cruelly and boy, do they have money. I also have worked in several other areas and one in particular is an area that the residents seem to think they are richer then they really are. Sure they have the big Mc Mansions and the fancy cars but they also have the max'd out credit cards and the interest only mortgages. I think your co luncher falls in with the latter crowd. Those that have money really dont have a need to prove anything and hate being noticed for it.

Well I need to get a load of laundry out and folded and the dinner dishes washed. Hope all enjoyed their day today. McCool, I am hoping that the evening went better then the morning and I am sure that tomorrow will be a great day for you.
~~~~~~ to all I didn't mention. You are all in my thoughts.
