Raise your hand if you have a forgotten large pot of plants somewhere that you never really see untill you stub your toe on it and it's been around for a couple of years? Well I stubbed my toe on one this morning. Inside are 4 red glads, 3 cactus, a rose bush and a weed that is about 6 feet tall and full of buds. This pot has been in the same place three years running. It started out as a containered climbing yellow rose. Some glad bulbs got added around it a year later, then the following year I put 3 cactus in pots in there because the rose wasn't doing very well and I was sick of it. So far the cactus managed to survive zone 8 and numerous hard freezes and the glads and roses bloom. I'm waiting for the cactus to flower one of these years.
Actually, its My Zone Project .. I'm testing weather roses, glads, cactus and a giant weed can coexist together peacfully in a communal pot in zone 8. :-)

Pot of Shame or It's My Zone Project.
Now that is just plant abuse! Of course NO one else does that! snicker snicker giggle. LOL
Very good X--you should see my 'pot ghetto'. ;)
Well trot it out for us dmj! I don't want to be the only plant abuser.

My "pot ghettos" are just do to my interest in invasive plants. I'm always facinated to see what made it into my containers on the second floor. I ended up with a pretty cool one in my Spider plant. It's a low flowering spring plant, that has jumping seeds. I'll see if I can get a picture of the dead plants tommorow and figure out what it is. I have several trees that made it up as well. I'm going to let my future step-daughter transplant those into the forest. The rest this year were weeds in my opinion.
I call it the Indurance test- how long can portulaca stay alive in a six-pack without water to reseed the following spring? I told my neighbor about a pot full of leftover's: It's the test pot; No you can't have it, results would be inconclusive. I have to ignore it, all this flower gardening stuff isn't just for fun. It's scienctific. ;)
I'm still waiting for the weed buds to open .. getting excited!!! LOL

zhinu, sounds like you may have Shotweed...it's in the PF...pretty little weed till it comes to getting rid of it and all of it's many friends.
Looks about right, but, it seems like mine was flater. I'll take a look next time I go out.
I was given some daylily plants about a year ago. I put them in a plastic yard barrow and forgot them there. They are now starting to grow. They aren't as pretty as when I put them in, but believe me, I am going to plant them soon. They have survived cold, drought and neglect. They deserve a break.
X, I think your weed is a goldenrod, lovely, but way too enthuuastic.
X, last spring we were having a tree removed and there were these daylilies right beside the trunk of the tree. I didn't want them to get stepped on or damaged so I dug up this large clump and put it aside on top of the soil in a protected spot until I could seperate and replant them. Welllllllllll, they are still sitting in the same place, unplanted, and blooming better than they did when they were in the ground. Go figure.
X-love the zone project idea and I certainly want to hear the conclusion............as soon as my cactus blooms again, I'll send you a few pics. I have one that has bright yellow blooms and the other one has a peach/orange bloom, both are beautiful! I've found the tip to a blooming cactus is to do nothing! lol :-)

Whew .. I don't feel so low rent now! Lol .. glad there are others out there with novel excuses for neglect .. seriously though, I am astonished that the cactus has survived and that everything in the pot seems to essentially be healthy and happy!

melody - I did take a look at what's still in my spider plant and I think you are right about the shotweed. At least it's in a container, and one that is way larger than the spiderplant needs, it actually looked way better when the weed was green than it did before the weed, I need to cut all the dead stuff away, but I've been sick, busy or way too stressed a lot recently and haven't been doing more than is required to keep my plants alive. I randomly lost a primrose and an onion, and my future step-daughter took out my garlic, but other than that my garden is still healthy. Any clue why it appears only in my various spider plants?
