Coffee...and for July 22, 2006 We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/628839/

Okay tell us what Saturday has in store for you. Is it still a work day for some, are you going to be out gardening, or will you have the day to do what you will? Does anybody try to hit the yard sales on the weekends?

Well, I'm hoping Ernie still has some Berry pie left and I will make a trip out. I'll take a look see to see if I think there are actually 799 cherries in those pies. I'm missing those sweet doggies too!:) Can they have treats? Or do they just have to eat what you grow, like cherries? If Maria would like to take a boat ride around Lake Whatcom or out in the Bay DH would be happy to do that. He's going crabbing in the morning. Do you guys like Dungeoness Crab?? I had crab and cherries for lunch. More crab at dinner, then came home to pit cherries for the neighbor guy. He bought them, I'll pit them, we'll both dry them. What a time to have the dehydrator going..it's soooo hot! It's in the spare room. Went to a garage sale, found some cool planting and watering items...I have some things for you Ernie, plus the 8 ft tomato poles. I also went back and got rosemary, sage and some others things to start making potpouri. I really need dried (the big ones that look like nuts) poppy seed pods and chinese lanterns. I seem to be making gardening friends all throughout the county!! I love it. My Aunt's nurse has a lavender farm...we went out there...I LOVE lavendar. Now I'm searching all over to find things to dry. Hollyhock (sp?) dries wonderful! Give me any ideas you might have! Off to bed...have a great day!!!

Good Saturday Morning! We are at 80 again but looking forward to rain (whatever that is) and a cool front this evening. Watermelon is iced down, chunked up and on the counter. Help yourself, spoons in the spooner. Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Off to work for me...

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Looks like rain here but it's cooled down some...hooray.
Not much going on, maybe try to plant some more trees up at the farm. I want to put a line of maples in along the road front.
Lots of stuff blooming, and I picked my first maters. Of course, the tags are lost, so I'm not sure which variety.. So much for my keeping track

defoe, how big is your veggie garden? Like, acres? I'd love to see a picture of it I just dream of all the great food you're putting away. I know it's brutal work;

And I envy all those cherries. Next year, maybe I'll have pie cherries. This year I had about 50 (the trees are young) SO I guess I need 749 more to be in business. LOL.

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

Well, Im up but barely. Coffee is on now and boy I wish it would hurry up. Man is it good to sleep in on a Saturday! Okay, got to go get me a cup and will check in here in a few.

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning! How is everyone this fine day? Sun is out and high of 82 today so will be wonderful.
Got a treat this morning. About 20 hot air balloons going over the house. the Waukesha County fair is running this weekend and they have 3 launches throughout today and tomorrow. They're just beautiful colors so bright and vibrant. Its was nice to watch them.
DH and I are going to meet my DD & DM there later on this afternoon. It will be another treat for me for I didn't get to spend all that much time with my folks.
Right now I've got to get some laundry washed and hung outside and some deadheading. I wanted to say good morning first and hope everyone has a wonderful and productive day. BL Cherie

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Cherie, I love the hot air balloons! There's a factory near Statesville, NC that makes them, and Greenville, SC has a huge hot air balloon weekend every year.

Dmc... maples grow fast, should do good for you. I want a fiery red maple when the one in the front yard dies.

I certainly hope Gracie is not carrying kittens because I have no time to deal with kittens! Haven't picked her up even to see if she's been spayed. She needs a Vet visit as soon as I can afford it.

Bringing her in the house is out of the question. My cat, Bazha, was at the porch door last evening when I fed Gracie and they really had a hissing contest. Bazha used to try and eat the female cat that belonged to my last housemate although she tolerates male cats reasonably well.

My agenda for today is to put up 2 more shop shelving units and get some of the crap up off the LR floor so I can de-staple, prime and paint it. Then get my futon bed made back into a couch and some more furniture set up in the Library so it looks less like I used it for a bedroom. Sure wish I had some of my books here to put on the bookshelves... it looks so naked. Bud (a very dear old friend) told me last night not to do anything about my oriental rug until he comes up Labor Day. I wonder if he is gifting me one of his rugs?

I threw the rest of the apples into the compost pile. More were spoiled than decent. They were in the root cellar and I guess I need a vent in there for air circulation. There is a boarded up window, I guess I should see what condition it is in.

Supposed to be thunderstorms all weekend, but cooler. It's after 10 am and not up to 70º yet, a big change from the 90's all week.

Have a great day!

Hi all
Just checking in to say hello and see how Casy's DH is doing?
Wanted to wave at everyone. It's hot and humid here. Will check back later.

So far weather is same as yesterday. Sprinkles then one shower to wet everything down. Someone else most need it more. I can keep watering.

Got some pictures back that I took. Some from last year and then this year. Wish I could share them. [Some of them turned out so good} For me that's amazing.

Cherie what a sight to see in the morning. That should perk a person up.

Hi and ~~~~~to everyone else. Hope you get the weather you need today.

Later Vicki

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

finished up all the coffee and been out watering and feeding all the critters. I have to start getting ready in a little while to go to a bridal shower for a cousin's fiance. I have never seen her so this should be interesting. Anyway, I am excited to see some other family, cousins, aunts, etc that I havent seen in some time.

I cooked a dinner last night that could have sold in a restaurant. Baked some chicken with some fresh herbs (covered in foil so it steamed and didnt get dry) . Also made a pasta salad with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, celery and some italian dressing. DH and I had a nice meal by ourselves, since both of the kids fell asleep before dinner was ready (they were worn out from a busy week).

Cherie and Darius - Hot air balloons are indeed beautiful! We used to see them constantly in Colorado, but they arent such a popular thing here I guess (dont see any).

My husband spilled a glass of kool-aid next to the computer last night and some of it splashed onto the keyboard. Now the shift key on the right side is sticking. Any ideas on what to do about this? I dont want to buy a new keyboard- this computer is brand new/ :(

Must go do laundry.

Katy

Katy, unplug the keyboard, gently pry off the sticking key and clean that area with a damp Q-tip. Let dry, re-install the key and plug the keyboard back in.

(M5, ending a sentence with a pronoun? LOL)

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Morning all. I couldn't get on last night either. Tried several times and got dumped so I finally gave up.

Not much planned for the day, but should tackle the inside of the house, dust bunnies are starting to take over.

Elaine, I called the 800# that was on the jar of vidalia onion relish, what a nice company! Their minimum order is four jars, so I'm doing early Christmas shopping, but the price was very reasonable and so was the shipping! Maybe I can get some other folks addicted to it and increase their business. The woman who took the order said "We'll send it out today" I asked if they didn't want a credit card number or anything, and she said no, they'd pack an invoice in with the order!! Imagine that!! I thank you for introducing me to that yummy relish! I used the last bits on a hot dog for lunch!

Somermoone, the pic is from two little French Lavender plants that I started last year. It has self seeded along this sidewalk, to the point that I've had to take some up and give it away. Does the French have as much scent as the English? This doesn't seem to be very fragrant. Also, I definitely would count the cherries in that pie, Ernie sometimes tries to put one over on us, and there could be only 750, and how would we know?

Darius, I think Gracie does look a wee bit preggers, can you palpate her tummy and see if anything is kicking inside there? She's a lovely color gray, and has a sweet face. I don't imagine your cat thinks much of her. We've had a sea change since Olivia joined us, Souky has begun to play with her, which is a first as she's been aloof from the others since we got her. Hasn't quite reached the point where she'll sleep in a heap with the crew but just playing is a big step for her.

Bonnie, whether I call it dinner or supper depends on what I make! If I do the works, and not just a pizza or a light meal, it becomes dinner. If it's thrown together or leftovers or such, it's just supper. I think there's a difference between the rural and urban names for it, when I was a child it was always supper. Sunday midday was dinner, and we lived mostly among farmers, so I suspect that's where that came from.

It's cool and bright here this morning, and I hope it stays that way. I like having doors and windows open in spite of the pollen or whatever is making me clog up.

Who asked about garage sales? Here it seems they are starting them on Thursday and then run through the weekend. By Saturday the items are pretty well picked over. I stopped at one a couple weeks ago on my way home from golf, and the woman must have sold Avon because there was two tables full of product. Some very old. I paid fifty cents for a tube of Silicone Glove hand cream which I used to use and can't get any more, and it was still good. Most of what you see in the subdivisions are kid's toys and clothing. I'd rather hit the estate sales, except the ones run by professionals where you have to take a number, stand in line, and wait to go in. Some people, who I think are dealers, line up for those hours before they open. I think they buy to resell the items in their stores.

Tried to post this earlier but DG was doing weird stuff and I quick copied it so all was not lost, so I'm picking up where I left off.

No idea what to do with a sticky keyboard, one of my kids spilled coke on an electric typewriter years ago, and had to take it in to have it cleaned up. Any thing that would dissolve the sugar would probably not be good for the keyboard.

Cherie, when we were the first house built in the subdivision, a hot air balloon came down here, and I got pictures! I haven't even been outside this morning but doubt we could see them from here.

Hope, whatever pie is just out of the oven is my favorite! Since I've made breakfast and cleaned up the kitchen already, it's time to go see what's been growing overnight. ~~~ to all, have a great day, and I'll see you all later.

I did?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

No, me... Silly!

Alcohol is the best thing for cleaning electronics with. I keep those alcohol pads around, and they work great. You can use it to wipe off your phone keypads and handsets, also. They do this at my DH's work.

Meezers, glad you liked the relish and can order it. We buy it at our local farmer's market. They have a Vidalia onion dressing also.

Clinton, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi, all. We were camping for a week, so I haven't been able to talk to you for awhile. Nice to be back and see everybody doing well. It's also nice to sleep in a real bed again.

Darius-I'll get some nigella seed sent out to you as soon as it dries out enough here to collect some more. We had two solid days of rain, so everything is damp, including all my camping gear.

If anyone else wants some, let me know and I'll get it sent.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I am on a "sleeping in" role. I didn't get up until 9:30 this morning. That is probably a first for me. Evidently all this canning, entertaining, and caring for DGD got to me. I feel rested now. Went to a friend's house to take a fry daddy she wanted to borrow, came home and stopped at one garden. DH was there, and we picked beans, beets, corn, peppers and tomatoes. dmc, we have 3 gardens, each one about a 1/2 acre. I pulled enough corn that I am freezing some of it. It is cleaned, silked and on the stove blanching.

We had rain last night, about 8/10 inch, but it really soaked in. We had thunder and lightening, and some wind, but all in all not a bad storm.

Well, to all, no time to comment, just a big hearty~~~ to all. Will come back after the corn is done and ready for the freezer.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

LOL That was a preposition! (and I had to look it up !! I need a refresher in parts of speech)

Elaine, I get vinaigarette (sp.?) vidalia onion dressing, a big jug, at Sam's. I couldn't believe they would send an order without getting paid first!! I enjoyed yours so much, and now I have to have it.

Hmmm think I need a spelling lesson too. LOL

Sheila

Gosh, y'all got me scared of posting. I've been out of school to long to remember English and I sure can't spell. :-)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi folks,

It will be hit and miss for the next two weeks. Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival
http://www.chamberfest.com/english/festival/2006/schedule2006.html
kicks off this evening - well actually, sort of, last evening with a free concert in a parking lot where they hope a new community concert hall will be built by New York based (but founded by two Ottawans) East Village Opera Company which does opera with a rock twist.
http://www.chamberfest.com/english/festival/2006/evoc.html

Opening concert is this evening. I'll be volunteering at it. My schedule for the next two weeks includes nearly 50 concerts that I hope to get to now that I'm not working at the food cupboard. I'm signed up to volunteer at 21 of them - usually helping at 2 each day and 3 on several occasions. And in between volunteer commitments, I'll squeeze in as many more as I can get to. This is the largest Chamber Music Festival in the world with 120 concerts over 2 weeks. And all but about 13 of them can be attended with the $80 passes. People come dressed very casually and the line-ups, which go round the blocks by the churches, are legendary. Most of the churches are not air-conditioned; so we all hope for moderate summer weather.

Anyway, I'll drop in when I can, but won't have time to say much for awhile.

Keep well.

Ann

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL Sheila... I knew it was a preposition, just got the wrong word off the hard drive I sometimes call a brain! My Daddy always said "behind the at" if one of us ended a sentence like "where's it at?"

IO1, don't shy from posting. We are just having fun with grammar... mostly forgotten, LOL.

I've been plugging away at some organization off and on all day. Mike and his son came and moved my big (8 foot) tabletop to the barn so that cleared a space to set up my baking center-rack in the kitchen. Still dreadfully shy of counter space, much is taken up by my sister's microwave. I have an over the stove microwave with a vent and light but we'd need to take out the upper cabinet to make it fit. Besides, it's black and the other appliances are white.

I almost have a sitting room (in the library) now! Couch, chair, end tables and coffee table set up on the oriental rug. Have to find the remaining parts to my torchiere... the weights for the base. The glass top is too heavy without the weights and I'm afraid it would tip over. I need to find a decent stand for a small TV in there for now... my sister's 1950's metal deco cart doesn't go with the look I want.

Don't ask me the look I want! So far, it's an eclectic mish-mash of Mission style and contemporary, LOL.

Looks like the AC stuff won't happen until Wednesday. The Carrier unit hasn't come in yet. Pooh. Got my first full month's electric bill today, a whopping $26.41. I'm sure that will jump once there's AC here!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Gosh Viann, you are sure gonna be busy the next 2 weeks. All that volunteering, getting to meet new folks, and lots of good music.

Well, finished with the veggies from the garden. Froze 13 pints of corn, and chopped and froze 3 pints of green peppers. I have some beets to do, but think I will take a break, and do them later.

M5, used to know all the speech parts, but it has been too long to remember most. I try to use each properly, but I know that I don't always do it. Had a very strict, stern english teacher in high school, and she was known to bop kids on the head if they got something wrong. Gosh couldn't get by with that today. I was always afraid to speak up in her class, for fear of being wrong and getting swatted.

The weather here today, has been overcast, and cool. Suits me, as the heat was almost too much to bear.

Mr. B. has been busy this past week. DH has a beagle who is in heat, securely held by a fence. Mr. B. sits on the porch about 5 minutes then runs out to check on her. All of today, he has just lain outside the fence, watching her. He has been so busy, that he hasn't even been in to eat today. Poor little boy, so frustrated. Be glad when this is over. He has a prearranged date next week. So maybe that will distract him for awhile.

Well, gonna go do some other things, then a session with a book and the easy chair is in order.

Salina, KS(Zone 6a)

My Mother was the one that was telling us 'behind the at'. She worked hard at teaching us good grammer. Also, 'can't never did anything' when we'd say 'I can't do that' or 'I don't know how'
Was thinking just recently about diagraming sentences. Used to just love doing such, but don't believe I know where to start anymore.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Petra, I doubt they even teach diagramming sentences anymore. I also doubt I could still do it, LOL.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Just got done hailing and raining. Someone must of decided we needed it . Haven't gone out to see if there's any damage. About 1/2 size hail. I know nothing like some of you get!!!

I just came in the house a little before from cleaning in my shed. Between me and the birds we have made quite a mess. Hope to go back out later when it is a little cooler.

You ladies really scared me about my grammar so I'm trying to clean up my act a bit.

petra i hated sentence structuring in school. Even told the teacher.

We just had our 1st vidallia onion the other night. Otherwise I've been buying sweet spanish.

Oh the sun is out again. Maybe I'll go check things out.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well after the book and recliner break, went out and cleaned the pool. After a rain, it really gets the chemistry messed up, so swept and vacuumed. Somehow, doing it in the pool is much more fun than sweeping and vacuuming in the house!! Just had a shower and waiting for DH to get showered and dressed,to go out to eat. There is a new restaurant in the small town nearest us, and they say it is very good, so gonna give that a whirl tonight. I will do some cooking for tomorrow, when we get back home.

Mr. B is still on his vigil, hope to lure him in for something to eat and bed later.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

defoe... I make it a rule never to eat out on a Friday or a Saturday night if I can avoid it. The restaurants are always crowded and the chef's overworked, resulting in a less than standard meal. I hope your new restaurant fares better! Of course, eating out is always better than having to cook.

No restaurants in my new town (just fast food) but may have some in nearby towns. The town 25 miles south of me (Abingdon) has a famous theater, the Barter Theater, and draws tourists from all over. I suspect a decent restaurant or three there. Probably more than I can afford, LOL.

Cloudy and threats of T'storms all day but nothing has come of it. At least it's cooler.

I'm really pleased with myself for what got done today. First time there is a noticeable visual improvement, but miles and miles yet to go.

My shower was just okay but afterwards I tried to take out the plug that keeps the water to a dribble rather than full force. It wouldn't come out so I drilled the hole larger. We'll soon see if that worked!

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 8a)

Crabbing was great! I didn't get up and go at 6:00 am tooo lazy...Did a little garage saling then met DH when he dropped my cousin off at the boat ramp. We all brought in our limits of Dungeoness Crab...mmmmmm! Lived around here all my life and today was my first time out on Bellingham Bay. It was sooo beautiful! Looked behind me and there was Mt Baker looking back:) I realized it does rain a lot here, but that's what makes it so beautiful.
Just watered everything..Now off to inspect DH's job on cleaning the boat. I don't want it to smell like a fishy boat when we're out cruisin' Lake Whatcom.

M5...that is the same lavender I have. I did get something yesterday (already dried) that has a much stronger smell. I do want to get some different varieties to plant. I'll have all winter to study up.

I didn't get out for pie:(((( So I can't report back on the actuall number of cherries used, darn! Sorry guys!

We too, have hot air balloons in Whatcom County. Seems to me they come out Aug/Sept. We had one land in our back yard once...they kept it teathered(sp?) and let us all go up for a few minutes. The kids were little and LOVED it!

I can't remember anything from grammar teaching days... I used to be very good. All I remember is... i before e except after c. Still comes in handy. Most of the time I'm on here in the middle of the night so who knows what ya'll get??:)) Better get something done inside this HOT house, then over to DM's for a little crab feed..mmmmmm..again!

Your all welcome to come for dinner. You can stay over for breakfast too! I could whip something up. I'll have to run to the store for coffee as I don't drink it.....How did I get to this spot without drinking coffee, you ask? Just darn lucky in the people I've met through DG!!

Have a great evening and keep cool.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, back from out outing at the new restaurant. It was very good. Darius, this is a small town, and there were probably 25 customers. We had petite sirloin, salad and baked potato. The steaks were cooked just right, a good meal at a reasonable price. These are local people, and I sure hope they are successful.

I made a meatloaf, and cooked some green beans after we got home. This is the start of tomorrow's meal for after church. I hate to have to cook a full meal after I get home, so usually have something cooked, and can just add some sides to it.

Sommermoone, tell us how you cook the crab. I love crab, but being inland, have never had it fresh. Tell me step by step, as I am always interested in new things.

Have looked at the lodging for the September KyRU. DH and DGD are going with me this year. Will be making the reservations next week.

Well off to do a few more things, and look at other forums.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone,
I'm earlier than usual since I have to wait for some sausage to thaw before proceeding with supper. (Oh yeah, I'd forgotten ---- to answer your question, Bonnie, around here supper and dinner seem to be interchangeable. Sometimes I'll use one, sometimes the other with no particular rhyme nor reason.)

I guess it's cooled down a bit, but still extremely humid. I hate it when it's so sticky! Since August is usually the worst month (as in "Dog Days") I dread to think what we're in for with this July as a prelude! My garden looks even worse than usual this year. I'm about to give up on it and we haven't even had a ripe tomato yet. Couldn't afford the predatory nematodes this year so we're plagued with Oriental beetles along with the usual cucumber beetles. I've been trying to keep the most vulnerable plants sprayed with Neem but the excess rain has just been washing it off faster than I can apply it. Nobody else here quite understands what the garden means --- DH calls it my "hobby" and my mother keeps asking why I bother with it as I have more to do than I really have time for. (ungrammatical, I know) Neither of them seem to have a clue (despite my trying to tell them) that it's the only way I can figure to give a little back to the earth and that I'm trying to maintain some sort of a life despite the many hours that have to be decicated to business. Okay, sorry, that's my whine for today!

Cece, Twenty hot air balloons? Wow! I've never seen more than two overhead at any one time. That must have been breathtaking! Nice way to start off the day.

V-ann, sounds like you're busier now that you're "retired" than when you were working. I do hope you enjoy it all.

Bonnie, I definitely do not envy you all the canning and preserving that you are doing in this dreadful heat! I'm glad that at least you now have the pool if you get to feeling over-heated. I imagine that you must get a great feeling of satisfaction when you look at the results of all your labor, though. On another note, I hope that poor Mr. B gets over his unrequited "love" long enough to at least have some supper and a night's sleep!

darius, glad that you have gotten a lot accomplished. You've certainly been working hard enough --- nice to see that the results are starting to show. Sorry that you don't have AC yet. I'm sure that you need it more than we do since you're further south. We managed without it for many, many years, but I sure wouldn't give up the AC unit in the bedroom without a fight, now!

Sheila, your post reminded me of a little wooden sign that I have hanging on the doorknob of the access door to the upstairs where DH and I dwell. I says "This house is protected by killer dustballs!" I don't remember where I picked up the sign, but I just couldn't resist it as it was so appropriate.

D.K. is growing into a lanky feline adolescent. I had to laugh today though as I was digging through my purse looking for something. I found a marble. Now who do you think put that in there? We have vet appointments for three of the critters this Monday. I don't even wan't to thing about what the bill will be for that!

I01, how are you managing down there? I was really glad to hear that you did get some much needed rain, but what is the heat like? I kind of envy you those lovely cukes. They're my favorite and I don't know if we'll get any this year. I planted them three or four times, but the weather just hasn't cooperated. (not to mention that rotten ^$%# striped cucumber beetle!)

If anyone would like some candytuft seeds, please let me know. They are mostly purple ones. They made a really nice display earlier this year, but there were so many that I think I need to rip some out and keep them from re-seeding in the garden so that some other flowers can grow as well.

Casey, I sure hope that your DH is doing well. Please let us know how things are going with you as soon as you can.

Hi Twyla, wherever you are!

Hi and goodnight to petra, vicki, dmcd, somermoone (think I've "seen" you over in the Herb forum), pod, and katy. I wish you all a cool night!

Deatsville, AL(Zone 8a)

Well I have been dropping in a couple of times today, but havent posted lately.

Darius- I tried the advice you gave on cleaning under the keys with a damp q tip and it really worked great! Thanks so much for the advice. And to think, I was dreading having to replace the whole keyboard! LOL

Went to the bridal shower this afternoon and it was really lovely. Such a nice girl and she will make a beautiful bride. They are already talking about starting a family !!! IMO that's moving a little too fast, but not my business.

Went to KMart this afternoon after the shower and bought DS all of the necessary school supplies. Still have to go back probably next weekend and get him some school clothes as he is referring to all of his jeans as "Tom Sawyer pants" LOL! (They stop about 4 inches above his ankles he has grown so over the summer) Even as I am typing this he is saying he is starving. We just ate dinner an hour ago. DH keeps telling me "just wait until they are teenagers - the grocery bill will skyrocket"

We got a good rain this afternoon and I was so glad to get it. Finally catching up on the rain after such a dry summer. Hope you all are cooling off some.

Katy

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Still no rain here, but it cooled off so nicely. Just for today and maybe tomorrow though. Supposed to be 100 again by next weekend. And never any chance of rain. :(

While out doing my daily watering, I noticed a wren fly out when I watered a begonia. so I had to check in there and here is what I found...

FOUR little eggs. I don't know why they like my hanging basket and pots so well, they just destroy the plant but I can't do anything about it they are so cute!! I have them in the hanging baskets all the time, but this time they chose a large pot. LOL

Well, I am going to go out and do a walk about since it is actually only 82, it feels cool. Amazing what 107 108 can do for your heat perception.

McCool, like your sign. Think I need one for our house.

Albuquerque has a very large balloon festival every year. Have been thru there many times during the festival. Sat on the hill on the west side of Alb at the truckstop & watched them going ascending. Really fun. Then driving thru Alb. a very large balloon in the shape of a locomotive was flying very close to the interstate and very low. Thought for a little while we might have a collision.

Hello, the day is almost over. I think is is just plain hot everywhere. This morning I got an early start to get a lot done before the heat. At about 9:30 I took Patch for his theraputic ride, it takes 40 minutes to walk to the mailbox and back home. When I got home my neighbor who owns the sheep was here and just about to leave, but when I told him that about 50 of them had been in my horse pasture the evening before and again earlier that morning, and suggested a quick fix for the problem, he and I went to extend the hot fence all along the barbed wire fence that separates the two pastures. Before he left another neighbor came to get some zucchini and summer squash. She got enough beets for dinner too. By then it was about noon and I needed to go to town. When I'm out of milk the kitties just don't understand, and I needed a few other things too.

Our town has a festival called Miner's Jubilee and it is this weekend. Lots and lots of extra people in town. I was glad I did all my shopping on the near end of town and didn't have to drive past all the activity. In the morning there will be church in the park again, I am thinking of going if I can get Patch ridden early enough and have time to get cleaned up and drive half an hour. Going half an hour before I usually would go should give me time to find a place to park and walk a few blocks carrying a folding chair.

When I was coming home from town the digital thermometer in the pickup said 106. It was 99 under the elm tree where I parked the truck. While unloading my things from the truck I couldn't find my glasses, so drove back to the mailbox to see if they fell out when I got out to get the mail. Nope, I must have lost them in town. I had them in my hand the last time I got into the truck, but another 40 mile trip was too much to try to find drug store glasses, so I am using my spare pair out of the trailer. I'll tell you, I'm glad our humidity is low, I'm sweating anyhow but I think I would melt in the hot and humid places.

Cute little nest full of eggs, 9kitty. Now you have to be very careful when you water.

McCool, funny dustbunny sign. I spent some time rounding some of those up yesterday. I moved the hideabed and found a lot of the missing kitty toys. She hasn't missed them because she is busy chasing bugs. The grasshoppers are keeping her entertained. Your kitty is turning in to a lanky adolecent and mine is short and dumpy, almost looks pregnant but that is not possible unless the vet missed something in there.

Katym, I remember when my kids were growing like yours. The older got a pair of pants for band and the younger one had outgrown them before the school year was over.

Breezy is still coughing a bit, but when I heard him coughing he had just rolled in the dust. He is better but I need to ride him to see how much. My neighbor wants me to help him sort and move cattle about Wednesday. He has to put up some hot fences and then we will have to work slowly and carefully to keep the animals in them. Some of the heifers and all of the steers will be sold soon and they need to be on better pasture for a while, so once we get them sorted then we will have to move them home 5 miles to the harvested hayfields that have some regrowth, without the cows and calves coming along. Hopefully they will all cooperate. After that day I will know if I am going to take Breezy to the ride the next weekend.

It's time to go give Breezy his medicine and feed him and Patch. No sheep in their pasture tonight! The sun is almost down, but it is still almost 90. Sleep well, everyone, ~~~ see you tomorrow.

Been missing all day but didn't do any real work, went out to a local flea market this afternoon with DH and DIL (DS said they wouldn't have anything he would want to buy) They used to have some nice things, it was like a gigantic garage sale, everything from antique furniture and old household items, dishes, etc. but now it's just a big junk sale. Lots of imported kitschy pictures, cheap clothing, plastic gewgaws and junk. DH, who was lukewarm about going but was being a good sport bought a $10 pair of tennies, and a bunch of socks. I picked up one of those lighter things for candles, charcoal, cost a buck and when we got it out of the childproof packaging, it didn't work! Oh, and I had a chocolate mint ice cream cone. One scoop...Sarv better get back soon, I can't keep this up....Hadn't made the trip out there in 40 years, and it will probably be another forty. Oh NO, I'll be 110 yrs old...LOL!!! Maybe all the good stuff is on Ebay now.

Darius, I was pretty sure it was a prepostion so I googled parts of speech to check....how ever did I learn that stuff in the first place!!! I used to love it, I couldn't diagram a sentence now if you held a gun to my head. Checked out the living room on the Out of Limbo thread, looks more and more like home. I'm sure when DS gets there she will rearrange the whole thing just to mark her territory!!! But that's YOUR room isn't it? Plants are looking good for the short time they've been in the ground.

Olivia had a vet visit Friday for a shot, and came home with a flea, AGAIN. They all had flea treatment on 6/29 so now I am convinced she is picking them up at the vet's The first time it could have come from the mouse she caught, or ? but I hadn't seen any since then, and now there was another one minutes after she came out of the carrier. I called the office and told them I think they have a problem but I haven't heard anything back. I'm expecting they will deny she got it there (as they did the last time) and if they do, I'm going back to my old vet even though it is much farther to travel.

Ann, your schedule would kill a lesser person! I visualize a smoking trail behind you and Bonnie, as you speed through all your commitments! Makes me appreciate my well honed ability to procrastinate.

McCool, I'm sure DK is growing like Sammi did...he's over 9 lbs. already, and you sure can tell when you pick him up. Olivia will probably be the same size as Souky or even smaller. Her mother was very slender and light weight. Souky is about 6 lbs. You're lucky you only found a marble, we've found stuffed mice, glitter balls, jingle bells....mostly in shoes or slippers. That must be the cat equivalent of a "safe place" ...

Aww, 9kitty mom, look at the precious little eggs! When I went through my wreath making mania I'd go out and collect old nests to incorporate into the grape vines. I made and sold so many it was beginning to feel like work, so I quit doing it! .

Katy, feeding teenagers is like pounding sand down a rat hole, there's no end to it. I always felt lucky if I could get the groceries put away before they started foraging through the bags.

Ves, the silver lining to the hail is it has lots of nitrogen in it, and the plants like that so they recover well. Glad Darius fixed your keyboard.

Who did I not speak to? Brain dead and should go to bed. Good idea. Going. Night Gracie. (meow?)

Sheila

Just stopping by before bed. Have to be at church early as I'm ON for summer music. A friend and I are playing viola duets.

Sheila, I'd got to many of these concerts anyway, but I really like volunteering at them. You sometimes get to talk to the musicians. And if the churches are hot, sometimes the pew at the very back is the coolest place to be (or in one church if I work stage, there are some seats out in the hall with a breeze from the street). So it's not all selfless.

Diagramming sentences - well I don't think they taught it regularly when I was in school, but I had one teacher to gave us some of it.

I'm skimming the messages, but won't be able to take the time to respond to many.

Have a good night.

Ann

Evening all. Just wanted to check in and let you know that DH is at home resting semi-comfortable. We really wont know much until next Friday, but the surgeon that did this procedure said that he doesn't believe that all of DH's pain is coming from the ruptured discs. The condition of the worst disc is not a severe as what was assumed, and instead of two ruptured and one bulging he has two buldging and one ruptured. DH's pain has increased two fold. He has a high threshold for pain so I know it really bad when he would rather sit and watch a chick flick instead of getting up to get the remote from the other table. He said he remembers the doctor saying something about nerves but DH was really groggy and I wasn't in the room during the conversation.

I spent my day running between the livingroom waiting on DH and cleaning up the house. I have been cleaning for three days and feel as though I am getting no where. This is one of those times that OCD can be a big down fall in life. I know for a fact that the vacuum never left the closet during the entire month I was gone and I have vacuumed enough hair and dirt to require me emptying the canister three times already. Remind me of this the next time I think of leaving 3 boys, DH included, alone for an extended amount of time.

Sorry I haven't address all of you, I skimmed over some of the posts but DH is starting to stir and I need to get him something ready to eat so he can take some more pain meds. Poor thing.

~~~~~ 's to all.
