2nd Attempt to start Coffee...and for July 20, 2006 We came from over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/628152/

Sorry about the OOPS!!! But come on in, pull up a chair, and tell us what you plan to do today. There is some peach cobbler left, and a few cup cakes, of course coffee, tea, or the beverage of your choice. Jammies are appropriate attire, just lounge a bit, but if you are in a hurry to get out to start the day, we will excuse you.

Well, it is officially July 20, 2006.

I still think that there is some kind of gremlin that resides in this computer. Tonight when I started the thread, and did it the same, the hyperlink wouldn't work. Oh, well, we got here anyway.

Darius, glad to hear that you got the beans canned. How many quarts, pints did you have?

katyn, did you make that cherry cobbler?

Viann, have I made you self conscious about the proof reading? Didn't mean to. I guess I am from the old school. It gets my goat when words are improperly used. A for instance: their for there, you know what I mean. I saw a letter to the editor of our paper this week that had an improper use of words, and evidently got by the proofer, don't they every use the grammar function on their computers?

McCool, DTS (Sue, or Connie) which ever she was introduced to you as,says to tell you hello. She brought the necklace with her, and gosh it is gorgeous. You did a great job.

Well, it is getting late, and the bed is calling softly to me.

See you later this morning.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Well I have a problem.....With working 10 hour days and driving 1&1/2 hours to and from work, the yard, the gardens, blah, blah you get the picture....I have run out of quick taste good ideas for dinner.........Anybody have any thoughts. I swear if I eat another hamburger I will scream...Oh and I am married to a meat and potatoes kind of guy but he will eat what I fix or starve so long as it's not too far out there...:-) Well it's 2:26 going to read some of yesterdays posts and then hit the shower and off to work.....Thanks all. Have a great day and nobody work too hard in the heat...Hugs...Lauri

Good Morning Sleepyheads! We were blessed with 1/3 inch of rain in an angry popup storm last nite and a cooler 73 degrees at 5am. No peach cobbler here. Thank you. I've got a countertop full of canteloupe, tomatoes and watermelon. Y'all are welcome to join in. Right now, I'm eating melon and waiting on daylite to see how the plants liked some water from above. Hope everyone has the day of their dreams. pod

Good morning,
Yes. Allowd myself to sleep in this morning - but I stayed up way too late.

Bonnie - self conscious about proof-reading - NEVER! (not that I do it all the time) I'm also old school and had a high school English teacher who had a list of sins that were automatically -10 from whatever mark she had given us. I also edit the Canadian Viola Society newsletter twcie a year - it varies from 28 - 36 pages in length. fortunately, I have access to a professional to do the bulk of the proofing; but he still misses things. Better stop. I do though that when I've just gotten up I can't type worth beans.

defoe- nope, didnt make that cherry pie yet. I put it off last night cause the bed was calling me but I did get all the ingredients and such ready on the counter so I will definately be doing so when I get home from work this afternoon. I'll call you guys for a little cyber pie when its ready :)

Just finishing up this coffee and getting ready for work. Cant wait for the weekend and some off days (almost here)! LOL

We have been getting a lot more much needed rain lately (were in the drought area) and boy have my gardens noticed! Not to mention such a relief not having to water constantly.

Okay I've stayed too long. Got to get up and outta here. Hope you all have a good one!

Katy

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Hello all. We got RAIN!!!!! Not sur ehow much but it was coming down in buckets at around 3:00am There was this loud boom sat me straight up in bed and it was pouring. Its beautiful outside a nice cool 60 something I didn't go out and look, just read it feom the window. Needless to say I've been up since. On my 2nd pot of coffee. Didn't dare boot up with all the thunder and lightening but its been gone awhile so took a chance to read some and catchup, to put a liitle post in

Hope everyone has a good day. I think I'll go lie down and read, maybe I'll fall asleep for a short nap if I don't I'll be the proverbial witch with a capital B by the time DH gets home. ~~~~~~~~~~~to all Cherie

Morning everyone
Ann, so glad to see you are feeling better today. ... ah well, actually I guess it was yesterday ... so that means today also. LOL Hope you get your car fixed.

Katy, will come back later to see if that pie is done. I do so love cherries. Mmmmm. Hope you have a good day at work. :-)

Defoe, you're doing a great job on the thread starting. That pie sure sounded good. I think I'll give that recipe a try after all. How did it go with your DTS and the kids? Those burgers sure sounded great. I had a wonderful mental image of all y'all outside last night grilling and the kids having a ball in the pool! :-)

Hi Pod, I'll join you for breakfast this morning as I'm sitting here with a bowl of fruit. I love fresh fruit, also. This is one of those little combinations from the grocery, though ... you know with the diff mellons, grapes and pineapple. Not as good as a fresh melon, but I like having the variety.

Hi Maria ... missed speaking to you yesterday. So glad you are having a good time and the weather is holding. It must be a welcomed relief from the horrid humidity of the eastern coast. Am ~~~ at y'all.

McCool, so glad to hear your DH is recuping nicely and he was able to get out a bit yesterday. He continues to be in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

oz, that is such a distressing situation, and yes you are right ... sometimes I think the laws seem to protect the guilty instead of the other way around. No one who works in law enforcement will tell you that they haven't seen some things that break their heart. I hope everything works out. It's always hard when a child is involved. I hope the truth comes out.

Well, I've got two appointments ... one at 11 and then PT at 4. Need to get out and water and do some picking up. I apparently have someone who comes in and dirties up the place at night ... throws clothes in the hamper, etc because every time I turn around there's always something else to do. :-) Need more coffee before I can function. LOL Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

~Elaine~

edited to say ... Hi Cece we posted at the same time. Hope you get a nap! Don't want you to be ill when the DH gets home. ;)

G' Morning!

Just have a few minutes before I need to leave to meet the adjuster for the insurance company. He said on the phone that unless there's evidence of standing water in the storage unit I probably will not have a claim. I may contest it as the water came UP from the floor, not down through the roof.

Then I need a quick run to town to the grocery store. This new stray cat eats like a horse. Probably has worms but I cannot take her to the Vet until August's social security check.

Bonnie, I got just 8 pints of beans but enough added work I didn't expect to do yesterday. The apples are still cooking down in the oven. Went down over 2 inches overnight and still far to go. Someone use the 2x4 on me if I ever again use too much cider in making apple butter! I probably should have thrown that batch away but I hate to waste food. Hmmm, maybe I'll just make this batch into applesauce and start over after I get back home.

I could hear thunder in the night but no additional rain. My backyard is still soggy from the night before, some standing water up by the back deck. Looks like we'll have to get a backhoe and re-do the drainage lines. I'm sure they are clogged up with silt. WHY can't these men who do this work learn to use a silt sleeve over the pipe instead of just a gravel covering?

It is supposed to cool off this weekend, just in time for my AC to be installed on Monday, LOL.

Have a great day, BBL.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Last night it started out warm for sleeping but eventually got down to 60 by daylight. Just as the sun was going down I finally got on Patch and went for a short ride at a walk, just out to the mailbox and back, it is a mile each way. That's all he needs for the next few days. When I was going out the sky ahead of me was a peachy color, and coming home the clouds were pink. There was a breeze and even though it was still about 80 it was quite pleasant.

McCool, I'm glad your husband is healing up and hope that the doctor thinks he is making good progress. Inactivity is probably the worst part for him, and of course that effects you as well, so you will be doubly glad when things are normal again.

Elaine, I have that gremlin too, he dirties dishes, leaves shirts hanging on chair backs, shoes and coffee mugs in odd places. And is a clutter bug, newspapers, mail, magazines on the table, etc. I've been trying to keep up with him all my life and he is still ahead of me.

There are still a lot of weeds to pull, I worked at it most of the day in the heat, trying to get them pulled and out of the vegie garden before they go to seed. I'm dumping them on the burn pile to try to keep the seeds from spreading. What a job. It really got ahead of me when I was gone so many weekends.

Now I had better make use of the cool morning. See you later when it gets hot. Bye ~~~.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good morning all. We have been up for awhile, we made the omelets in a bag this morning, sure good. DTS and grandkids are still here, they will be leaving this afternoon. So it will again be an abbreviated check in, until they are gone.

Have a great day.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

morning all! i came in to cool down even though it feels cool outside. last night we dug up the ditch lilies. love that name that someone else called them. took about 90 min. if DH had't helped me i couldn't of done it myself. the root system was incredible!!!! they liked that home well now they found a new one on the brush pile.

since he dug i told him i would clean up in the morning. mission accomplished.

Mornin all! Quiet day at work today. Not many people in the office.

ViAnn - So glad your feeling better.

Pod - I'll have a slice of that watermelon. Just love fresh melon. Yum!

Darius - Good luck with the adjuster.

Elaine - That person who dirties your house at night visits mine also. I can have the kitchen cleaned when I go to bed and the next morning it looks like someone had a party. Must be the cats, Lol.

Gotta go for now. ~~~~~to all, bbl.

Just wanted to add a happy birthday to tgif! Hope you are having a wonderful day!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Missed tgif's birthday posted on my home page. Sorry, but a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Starkville, MS

Thanks. So far, its great. Out for my morning walk earlier with fresh 70 degree temp. Rain hit all around us yesterday evening, but none here. Glad we got a short break in the heat though. "They" are still saying chances of rain over the next several days (fingers crossed!).

DH is making me some cedar slat baskets for my orchids. I can't wait to get them in use! I have 1/2 a dozen orchids that need repotting 'last week' and others that need it *now*. A few more need to divided and repotted, but will have to wait as they have put out bloom stems.

Then this afternoon we're off to see me mither for a visit and grocery shopping trip. She is so much fun, I just love spending time with her.

Oooops - hummer feeder is empty *again*!

Ya'll have a good day. BBL

HELLO friends. Oh how I have missed you all. TGIF, happiest of all Birthdays to ya. I am not even going to try and catch up on the past month. Hope all the were sick are well, and any negative or sad issues have a silver lining to them now. DH was amazed that I only called Elaine a couple of times for updates and my DG fix.

Had to come home a bit earlier then planned. DH finally went to the doctors and allowed the tests on his back. He has three bad discs. One is completely destroyed, one is ruptured and will also need to be replaced and a third is bulging due to the increased stress on it from the upper two. I am taking him in for blood work today, tomorrow he has a discagram 9sp?), and then they are going to schedule the actual surgery. From where it stands right now they are going to replace two, repair one and wrap all three areas with some sort of mesh and fuse it to his spine. I will find out the whole story and more specific info at today’s appointment.

Loved being in SC. The weather was wonderful. Had a few thunderstorms roll through that gave some beautiful light shows in the night sky. Worked outside most of the time. The dark coloring of my arms and shoulders is nice, but since wearing shorts while trimming out brush is not wise I still have snow white legs. I managed to tame back the wild black berry patch. Took me four days to do it. What was once a mass of thickets in a 50X50 foot patch is now trellised to a 10 foot high and 25 feet long fence and spreads about 2 feet out on both sides of the fence. I discovered a pair of gloves while at the Daniel Stowes Botanical Gardens that held out the thorns. Made the job so much easier. While pruning and trimming I also gathered about 6 pounds of berries that I ate quite a few of and the rest are sitting in my friend’s freezer waiting to be put in one of her pies. I love the fact that I am allowed to burn the pile instead of having to haul it to the dump and unloading it there. What a time and back saver that is. Burning is a good way to see the inside of the local jail here.

The asparagus plants are about 3 feet tall now. I didn't realize that they would get that big the first year. I planted 25 1 year roots and they are all up and thriving. Now to find out how to treat them for the winter. I read somewhere that you are suppose to cut them back to about 3 inches above the soil, fertilize and mulch heavily in October. Then somewhere else I saw that for the first 2 years that you are to just let them go on there own until the fall before you want to harvest and then thin them out leaving a couple stalks tall and cover the rest with mulch but no winter fertilization. So if any one knows please let me in on the techniques. Thanks.

My gardens here are in sad shape. With DH's back messed up they really got the brunt of the neglect. So after the doctors appointment and the his blood work I hope to come back here and get some weeding done.

I will be back later. Gosh its good to be back on DG again....

Starkville, MS

Ah, CARAT - it is so good to hear from you, though it sounds like you put the time to good use. T&P for DH.

I wish *everyone as wonderful a day as I'm having!

Waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Happy birthday tgif! Lots and Lots more, too.
Elaine - I think that little gremlin comes to everyones houses at night. I have neither dog nor cat but I've gotta DS & DD. No-one in this house knows how to open a dishwasher and put their things in....... Its a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. Dirty a dish, wash it or turn around and open the door.
Hi lo1 - didn't get nap between phones ringing and worrying about what is waiting for me outside. Didn't happen. I checked my bee balm earlier because its gotten so tall I was afraid it was beat down. Nope it wasn't. Took a walk outside though and found a hangig pot of petunias upside down on the ground, my alaska shastas and my dwarf delphinimums are beat down. My patio's a mess with sticks and leaves. The yards, front and back have small tree limbs laying around. DH won't trim trees....says who does it in the forests? Mother nature. so let her come here. W ell she did. Nothing major in size, just a lot of them. Sun is supposed to be this pm so...........I'll do what I can till DGB comes. Thenafter she goes home about 7 I can go back out.

I'm on my 3rd pot of coffee and in case you can't noticed wired and motor mouth. I'll let some energy out on the treadmill.

You know I try and check everything before I send. Proofread. Makes feel like I'm in school again and marked off because I spelled a word wrong. BL Cherie

Cherie - don't you wish DG had spell check? I get used to those little red underlines.

TGIF - happy birthday. Have a great day.

Well I've done the final work (for now) on the Hosta site. Split my two pages into three to download faster for people with dial-up and got all the individual pages done. I hope all the links work. Let me know if you find any that don't. I know there are some inconsistencies in size listings, but I'll get to them eventually.
I invite you all to proof-read it for ma and let me know what errors you find. LOL

Got my car back this morning. Steers better. Never did steer awfully bad - compared to what I learned to drive on, it was probably easy, but compared to what it should have been, it was hard. And I'm not 20 any more. I like my power steering assist. Had already started to avoid getting into situations that would required hard steering to get out of.

Welcome back, Casey. Glad you had a good trip.

Does anyone know where Maria is? Still out west, I hope. I hear storm warnings for Eastern MA. How about you, McCool? Are you affected?

Darius, good luck with the adjuster - don't you just love how they weasel out of paying for things sometimes.

Hi everyone else. I'll probably BBL, but have some things that need doing this afternoon.

Ann

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Welcome back, Casey! Sorry about DH's back though. I was dismayed at reading about clearing the blackberries until I read further and saw you trellised some. Wild blackberries are SO much better than the tame hybred ones. The wineberries and blackberries are ripening here just off the verges but it's too hot to pick them.

May have a slight chance at an insurance claim. Depends partly if the units on either side of me got any water damage inside when we did. The "flood" designation is very iffy.

Tasted the apple mush... forgot I added too much apple cider vinegar not just cider. So with lots of sugar I will have some sweet and sour applesauce. Good thing I like savories! Had to go buy more pint jars. I still have 5 cases empty but all are wide mouth and I haven't found the box with lids and rings yet.

V Ann, looks like Maria's area will get the tropical storm brewing. That area sure has been hit hard this year.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Good morning to all of you!!! Beautiful day again bit warmer then usual..
Linda just picked a big bowl of pie cherries, these are very tart but refreshng to eat on a warm day.
Happy Birthday tgif, enjoy!
Casey how wonderful to hear from you but so sorry about DH, my son also had three disc problems, removed two of them, the third was not as bad it was left alone , he has been fine ever since

~~~~~~~ to every one
Edited to say, yes Ann, I am still here with Ernie and Linda and all of next week too, feel so fortunate to be here.
I'm back just checking in to see what's been going on Thought y'all had been mighty quiet and then realized once again I hadn't put this on my watched list. Can't seem to remember since starting last month's daily. LOL
Happy birthday Genni!!! Hope your day is a blessed one. :-)
Darius, sorry about the apple butter ... but mostly hope you are able to get that insurance adjuster to pay up! LOL
Hi Ann, glad you got your car back.
Oh CAROT ... I told the DH *just* last night that I needed to call you. Isn't it funny how you can just get that feeling and know you need to give someone a call and check on them? I'm so glad to see you back ... but so so sorry to hear about your DH's back. Please do let us know how things go for him. Both of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Well, I'm getting hungry and need to find something to eat, so I'll wave at everyone else for now.
Hi Casey Glad to see you back! Keep us posted on DH's back. My DH has had 2 back surgeries for herniated disks. The second was much simpler because they had improved the mothod of doing the procedure so much. Hope all goes well for yours as well. We finalized the dates that we are coming to Vegas. We will be coming in on Sept. 14 and leaving on the 18th. SIL got us a free room at Cesars. She spends a whole lot more gambling than I do and was able to transfer a comp room from Atlantic City to Vegas. Hope we can meet sometime while I'm out there.
Darius - Will keep my fingers crossed that the insurance works out.
Maria - Glad you are having such a good time.
Bel Air, MD(Zone 6a)
To day is our 40th wedding anniversary.
Our darling children sent this beautiful flower arrangement and this very large fruit basket.
We will be going out to dinner later.
We will need someone to help us eat the fruit, crackers and cheese.
sgtdot - CONGRATULATIONS! Well done to get to 40. Have a good dinner and enjoy the fruit, crackers and cheese. I expect it will keep if you don't eat it all today.
Maria - glad you're still out west and having a good time.
Ann
Happy anniversary Sgtdot! That's just wonderful ... wow 40 years!
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Yay, SgtDot!!!! Congrats.
Ladies (and our few men) I'm well past the 'glistening' point of ladies breaking out in a mild sweat... more like a convict who is breaking rocks in the hot sun. Not a dry spot on my head, body nor clothes. At least the tart applesauce is now canned although I won't tackle kitchen cleanup until it cools off some.
Then I will start a better batch for apple butter. Should be finished by 2007.
God, in His/Her Infinite Wisdom, made vegetables and fruits ripen in the heat of summer. I guess home canning wasn't invented by then, LOL.
Bel Air, MD(Zone 6a)
This was in the basket. Looks Good.
Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)
Congratulations Sgt. Dot! Yummi looking fruit basket and pretty flowers.
Darius - When we do corn for the freezer, we blanch it outside using the pot and burner to the turkey fryer. Can do larger batches and doesn't heat the house up so much. Keep cool and take it easy for a while.
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Suzie, I definitely plan a "summer kitchen" for next year!
Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)
Just finished 20 pints of tomatoes, how's that for the first batch. There have been summers when I have done 120 pints so you never know.
It is 105 and not done yet. ugh
Had to take Pepper Girl to the vet this morning. Thought it was an abscess but found out it is a severe skin infection. Shaved off the area to see if they could find puncture wounds, couldn't, but the entire area started to bleed. It was already oozing pussie stuff, and since we don't have a place in the house where she can stay away from the flies, we had her hospitalized. She will at least be cool for awhile and get some treatment. I got her a belly cooler and paid extra for express shipping. Ordered it Wednesday, it came yesterday, we used it one day and now she's in the hospital. Figures...but she did enjoy it the one day. Actually it was by putting that on her that I noticed her face. It was hidden underneath her ear so I feel very guilty for not noticing it sooner. I am always checking on her, and didn't see that.
Went outside to water a bit more, got a stomach ache, and decided to wait until later. If the heat doesn;'t break, I am going to be sick I fear. LOL
I have been putting trays of ice cubes in the dog bowls. I don't want them to have to drink hot water.
I even give my birds ice in their water, doesn't last long, but cools it off for awhile.
Well, I better go check on my last pot of maters, should be about done.
Susan
I need to shut down for a while... strong thunderstorms approaching.
KittyMom, sorry about Pepp]erGirl, hope she will be okay. We spend a fortune on our babies, don't we?
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Happy birthday tgif, and happy anniversary to Sgt Dot, just put that big old basket on the counter and we'll take care of all those perishables for you.
And WELCOME BACK to Carat! We sure missed you! The new place really kept you busy, are we going to see pictures? Hope the exam and surgery go well for your DH, they have such improved techniques and approaches now that I hear lots of success stories.
Susan (Elaine) sort of kept us up to date but its so nice to hear from you in person! How does your DD like her apartment living?
That little bitty rainfall we got early this a.m. didn't do much here, maybe a half inch or less. Must have gone all around us! ( That's all right Cece, next winter when you get 12" of snow and we don't get any, it will all balance out nicely. ) The last time we had a good downpour I had to prop up the Valerian, which had gotten almost five feet tall. Now, I've pulled out the old one that were done blooming and replaced them with a row of cheap geraniums. No need to worry about next year, they self seed like crazy.
I'm pretty good on proof reading too, having examined legal documents for several years. Even writing here, I find my own errors if I remember to preview before I send it, and sometimes stuff just slips through. Some of the things I find bothersome are their/there, a lot written as one word, alot, (do you go out for alunch, take abus?) hugh instead of huge, etc. but even more aggravating is lack of punctuation and capitalization. You can't convey a clear message without it. And it's hard to read. I hate to admit it but sometimes I just skip over it and don't even try.
It's icky and hot here and the humidity is awful. Whatever blew through last night didn't cool things off at all.
Darius, I think that applesauce will be delicious with pork chops or a roast tenderloin! I love savories, much more than DH does. Who, by the way, cancelled his outing and showed up at home in time for dinner, which there wasn't any of. Haha, did I just dangle a participle? And I wasn't about to make dinner either, as I had a late and hearty lunch. Didn't call or email that he was coming home.
He went out and cut the grass and then finally he foraged in the 'frig for last night's leftover chicken salad.
I see handwritten signs all the time, with misspelled words, and wish I had my black marker in my purse so I could fix them!! That's a little anal, but really!! Wouldn't you think the supervisor or the boss or somebody would check it before they hang up a sign?
Maria, so glad you are enjoying your visit! And that Linda hasn't beaned Ernie for his remarks!! Won't your Samson be overjoyed when you get home!! Cats are never overjoyed when you get home, first they have to ignore you to let you know that you are not that important, and had no business abandoning them. Samson will wag his tail so hard, he'll bruise every leg in the vicinity! Are your DDs keeping an eye on your garden?
V'ann, glad you got your car back. I feel very confined if I don't have access to wheels. Considering the number of cars we are harboring, it's annoying not to have a spare for back up. Plus, I'm so used to driving mine, don't like the little Honda, would be in a panic driving the truck, and most of the others need "something" in order to be operable. He just sold the one he was storing off site, which was drivable, but not here. He didn't make one red cent off that car but that's not the way he tells it. I'm just glad we are down one.
If I catch that little gremlin that messes up our houses, I promise to shoot him. He's supposed to dust when he's here but he doesn't do that either. Just takes shoes out of the closet and strews them all over, opens our mail and leaves it on the counter, except for the pieces he throws away and misses the trash, and we won't even talk about the clothes he leaves everywhere. DH blames it all on the cats.
Guess I better get myself into the kitchen and start dinner..can't let the poor guy eat chicken salad three nights in a row. I had lunch out and was gone all day, so nothing is started. Here's a ~~~~ for everyone I haven't mentioned, you know you are in my thoughts .
Later
Sheila
Edited to say, sorry Peppergirl is in the vetspital, hope she'll be all right. This heat is very hard on our pets. Not to mention people without A/C. Those tomatos will taste good next winter Susan, just keep telling yourself that! If I get a good crop, I'll probably roast them and then freeze them, they take up less room that way.
defoecat what are omelets in a bag?
sgtdot congrats on your 40th anniversary!!!!!!!!
9kittymom sorry about Pepper Girl. What a nasty thing to have. Hope it gets cooler for you soon. I remember when I used to raise rabbits and had to ice them to keep them cooler in the shed. A lot of work and worry.
Okay I didn't work on the rock wall today. H ad to clean up the ditch lilies. Part of the backhill looks like it was bombed. Told DH to leave it so I can dig out all the pieces of root,glass,rocks and metal. Then improve the soil which I didn't know alot about when I started. Then i'm not planting anything until next year so I can keep cleaning it out.. Nice summer project . I can't believe how much nicer it looks. I keep looking back there.
Sheila, you have a good attitude... both for the written word and DH's. LOL. My pet peeve is run-on paragraphs. SO hard to read so I skip them.
Jo (RoadRunner) sent me a Kool-Tie, and a pattern, wasn't that sweet? I need to copy the pattern and send it to V-Ann. Just a piece of scrap fabric folded to about 1-1/2 inches wide and 36-45 inches long sewn with an opening in the center to add some Water-Sorb crystals. Then hand-whip the opening. Soak and then freeze if you want, and tie around the forehead. Amazing how cool it feels and how quickly it cools you off.
T'Storms still in the evening's offering although thankfully we missed the first round. Apples still await me (tomorrow!) but I did get the kitchen KP'd.
I have decided to name my new outside cat Gracie. I had thought some variation of Gato (CAT in Spanish), for my last grey stray, and she's very grey. I put a litter box out for her tonight, don't know that she knows how to use one. Tomorrow will tell if she's ever been an inside cat, LOL.
TV awaits, and maybe back here for a Goodnight if I don't fall asleep!
It's ice cream time. Vanilla with chocolate sauce and (to make it somewhat healthy) sunflower seeds. I'm gaining on the weeds, but they'll be back, not this year though since all the watering will be done by ditches and not sprinkler.
Congratulations on 40 years, Sgtdot. A real milestone, especially with today's merrygoround marriages. A few years ago our pastor said the next thing you know they would be renting wedding rings, and in the years since he said that it has almost come true.
Happy Birthday, Ginny, I hope you had a really great day.
Darius, it's gonna take a lot of pork loin to use up all that applesauce. Want some help? I was wondering if you happened to take a picture of the storage unit damage before you removed boxes, or or of individual boxes, or if that would make any difference in a claim. Will they contact the renters of the units on both sides of yours, or will the owner of the business, or is that left up to you to persue if you want to add some weight to your claim? Have you given the kitty a name yet? or do we get to help?
9kitty, I hope your Pepper Girl recovers quickly. How long will she be in the hospital? Do you have any idea what happened to her?
Since I have come in from the garden I've picked two crawlies off of me, and now every little tickle has legs! There are lots of ant nests out there in the weed forest called my vegie garden. I'm still hauling weeds out of there by the wheelbarrow load, but now they are from the unplanted part. It's time to change the water to the next row, see you later.
Thanks to all who wished my DH luck with the procedure tomorrow. The doctor told me that it is a very painful procedure but a necessary one. It has been so weird seeing him just lying around the house. He is usually up and going by 5 am and doesn't drop until late. I hope this gives him some relief from the pain.
Suzie, I would love to meet up while you are here. That is awesome that they allowed her to transfer the comp and for it to be in Sept. Usually that is when our tourism does a spike because of the temp drops in the evening.
Lauri, no recipes for you but I did learn while I was still going to school, working full time with a DH and three kids that if I cooked up some chicken breasts and pieces, a few pork chops, and a flank steak on my day off it was a real time saver when trying to put together a meal. I would also, diced slice and prep then freeze as much of the veggies as possible to help. I depended so much on my freezer during that time. I would cook double batches of things and freeze half.
Sgtdot, I am on that fruit basket. I love the butterflies on the balloon. Congratulations to you both on 40 years.
Kittymom, I hope Peppergirl is home to use that belly cooler soon.
Maria, welcome to the west. I am glad that its the northwest and not the southwest because of the heat right now. I hope you are really enjoying yourself.
Meezer, Sorry only got a couple pictures of the property. DD lost the charger for the camera and I didn't find it until I was packing to come home. I haven't really had the chance to talk to DD about how she likes apartment life but I love it and so do the guys in this house. They all made mention of how calm things were while I was gone, and I have noticed the calm even though it has only been a day of it.
Mary, I am in the same position with the weeds. Wish my veggies and the plants I want would grow half as fast as the weeds do. Only been gone a month and it looks as though I came home just in time to save the place from being overtaken. Hope you get to the end of yours soon. I was going to try and get to mine today but we took longer at the blood sucker office and then a visit to the salon for a quick color to cover the grey. I about to the point of stopping this fight and just going grey completely. The plants I could buy with the money I will save.
Darius, I hope that the insurance company covers your losses and within a reasonable amount of time. It is so hard to loss belongings because of events you could not control. I lost quite a bit of stuff in a storage unit when the unit next to it caught on fire because the idiot stored a can of gasoline. Most of my damage was water from the fire department putting out the fire since it was a completely steel and metal building. The storage place claimed they were not at fault and the idiot that left the gas was unemployed and living on the streets. Finally after fighting with them for almost a year we managed to get a very small check to help recover some of the replacement cost. No where near what it really cost us to replace everything.
Well its time for dinner. DH made sausage with peppers and onions in a red sauce over penne pasta. Yummy. Laurie, this would be a quick meal if you had the veggies all ready to go in the pan. Hope all have a wonderful night.
Casey
