very slight slope causes run off

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

my garden in the front next to the street has a very slight slope but a run off non the less. what do you do to catch the water and keep long enuf to quench the roses and perennials?

Some kind of edging might help.

You could place some medium boulders here and there, that might slow it a bit.

I read an idea many years ago in a book and I can't remember what the book was now. Their idea was for both erosion control and catching water run off. Basically you dig a hole behind the plant that matches the slope of the hill, instead of straight down, at an angle if that makes sense. You then fill that hole with something porous like sand and peat that will collect water but also release it slowly. You would make the hole the same for erosion control but put the plant in the hole and use a plant that has roots close to the surface.

Using rocks in front of the plant or to the rear sides of the plant would do the same, as mentioned above. Dig a small hole just to situate the rock causing the water to have to zig zag some rather than run straight off.

thanks. I kept thinking of edging but the rocks, slightly 'buried' would do that too. thank you.
