I was going to mention that, Al. Actually, the lily was from Walmart, but the Echinacea was from Adam's Nursery. (Need I remind you, that was two years before your helenium was invented?)
What's growing - Part 5
That's a head scratcher alright. Tags get mixed up on plants sometimes - I go and do that when I'm bored.
Helenium are great - my other ones are starting to open.
Your card looks nice.
You'll know by the end of the season if your yard is too shady for your dahlia, they would either get mildew or wane.
nap ~ Im no expert! It just looked alot like my "Tom". I know that people make mistakes when labeling the plants, I've got one right now that I am trying to find out what it is. It had 2 names on it and the plant looks nothing like either of them! One is supposed to me small and orange/melon color and the other one is small yellow/beige with a light red eye. This is what the flower looked like when it bloomed....no where's near yellow or melon! Ughhhh!
nap ~ thats beautiful, and how creative!
Great picture of the butterfly!
Huh - I was up in the middle of the night with my senile cat who decided it was important I get him a drink of water at 3:15 am and wandered onto this thread. I think I spent an hour at the B& D Lilies site and sent a big ol' message to you that apparently never posted. Anyway - I like the lilies you picked Pixie - no way to pick a fav but thanks. My this board has been active today!
nap, love the card
Al, I've never seen a chain link fence look that good! looking forward to seeing your helenium. I know I'm going to have to try one.
My Dad bought a Saturn Peach from a local (California) Nursery last Fall. When I was visiting this summer - we ate the first peach from the tree and I swear it was a Babcock. So do we think there might be a "random name tag generator" making all the name tags?
Very nice Nap - you only have 1! - I can fix that ;)
nap--Nice cards. Have you ever connected with Anita (anitabryk2)? She makes special invitations and other cards.
Pixie, If you only know the lilies you grow, you are quite the expert! I was deadheading and removing wet willies today. I thought of when I suggested a wet willy contest. Now I certainly understand why you would not have time to consider it! I might get over 100 near my peak time (like now). but I can't imagine what you have.
If any one doesn't know, wet willy is a name for the day old, mushy daylily blossom.

Hi all, I made a post yesterday, But I guess it didn't go through, Anyways, Loved all the great photo's!!
Pixie, Great Dl's and other plants, I just love Dream Legacy!!
Nap, Beautiful Rose!! And Nice cards!!
bigcityal, "Akita" is just totally awsome!! If I had a choice of a variety of Dahlia's, Akita would be the one I'd want!! Just gorgeous!!
Hi, Iris. sorry your post got lost. Dave's is there twice...he must have hi-jacked yours ;-). pretty, pretty, pretty. think I need.......ummmm...Strawberry Hill (can't get me away from the pinks) I love the pic of the moth on the blazing star
I was picking off my 'wet willies' (Dave, did you make that up? gram asks innocently) yesterday, and the color on my hand's from the one dark red is exactly what you get from ripe bing cherries. I'm pretty sure it is 'Red Volunteer'. what do you guys think? this is the closest I can get to the true color. the blooms and scapes match the size listed
Iris ~ Welcome back! I was wondering what had happened to you! I'm with gram...that Strawberry Hill is amazing! But I have always been partial to Seminole Wind too!
Dave ~ I don't know the lilies I grow...just some of them. I have lost tags thanks to playful little squirrels, chipmunks and 2 grandaughters! Can't yell these faces...could you?
Sweet looking kids, really. They look like they are always happy. And pretty.
And Dave47, were there 46 Dave's before you? Or did you want to be 47? Actually, Anita and I did exhange some cards last winter. She does them differently than I do. Her's seem much more complicated than mine, with much more unique results. I loved them.
Al, I do have a few other dahlia plants that just aren't growing. They range from 4 inches tall, but looking healthy, to about 16 inches tall, with no buds. There is one with a bud, but it hasn't changed in about two weeks. It's called jack-o-lantern. Cornel is the tallest and fullest, but no buds. It's almost August. Is there any hope?

Nap - there is hope yet, as long as they don't get more shaded as the summer goes on. I had one I put in real late that bloomed in November last year. I thought you would have more than 1.
I grew a pack of Giant Hybrids Mix seeds from T&M, they will all be a little different and tall.
Here is the first one open
