Radioactive fertilizer!?!? Does Al Gore know about that?
What's growing - Part 5
Radioactive Fertilizer....I hear it'll light up your life!
mmmm...pixie, so what variety of blueberries? I tried them once in 1/2 whiskey barrels. another fun experiment that didn't go too far. when I was a child we used to have a camp in the Adirondack Mtns and there was a tiny island with wild blueberries. if we timed our vacation right we could pick buckets of them.

gram ~ Some are Northlands, and Northcountry are the only 2 I can recall right now. I have approx. 10-12 in all, some have been there for over 50 years!!!
I also have (wild) red raspberries, black berries and strawberries growing on our land.

Oh no Kayellen, don't make yourself comfortable, we are definitely throwing you out.
Oh wait a minute - you're from OH too.
Well, LOL - join in and lets hear from you

Maybe "Northeast" is really just a state of mind. And I certainly don't mind if we add Ohio!
Yank, I like that...'Northeast is really a state of mind'...should embroider it into a sampler...I certainly feel northeaster-ly
I want Merle Streep and Al Pacino to do the movie.
Pixie I have been wanting that Muscadet and the other want I crave it Party Girl. I love those freckles

"Rose Sonnet" http://bdlilies.com/l7070.html
I'm jealous of everyone who is picking fresh berries....what a treat!
pixie, my fav from yesterday has to be 'Longlesson Caprice'. where do they get these names, sounds like a show dog ;-) so what's the scoop on B&D Lilies? good place to order? I don't have any asiatics and I think it would help my anxiety while I am waiting for the orientals to bloom, so could be considered therapeutic (any IRS agents here?)
btw, the background on the 'Northeast' post from yesterday is my 'Elfin' thyme. the stuff just fascinates me. I think it gets prettier all the time (thyme?)
feeling better about the buddleia. thanks, everyone. I may give it a try again sometime, but probably not right away. think I'm going to fill in my fairy garden with Joe Pye weed and asclepsias and maybe another weigela which I am absolutely in love with, new mini rose just bloomed in this bed for the first time yesterday 'Ivory Palace'

morning, pix
Morning Gram ~ Ivory Palace is lovely!
This will be my first time ordering from B&D Lilies but I have heard nothing but great things about them.
Longlesson Caprice was taken this morning actually and it comes from a farm in Buskirk, NY .
It's funny you would say it sounded like a dog show, I believe it is actually a cow! They raise cows and daylilies...how's that for a combo??!!!
This is some of her flowers if you want to take a look. http://www.northcountrydaylilies.com/previous_intros_pg2.html
I like buying from them because they are winter hardy here in New England.
A few more pictures of different flowers.
pixie, got my pink&purple fix for today from your collage...thanks. I like to order from nurseries in the northeast as much as possible. plants are winterhardy, they don't spend as much time in shipping, just seems like a better idea. I do the same thing with orchids. I'd much rather order on the east coast.
pretty silly name for a cow, too :-) whatever happened to Bessie or Elsie? my mother's middle name was Elsie and we teased her unmercifully about it. I bookmarked them and think I will e-mail for next year's catalog. (I will not buy Custard Candy, I will not buy Custard Candy, I will not....well, maybe I'll buy 1 Custard Candy and put it in the back where nobody but me will see it LOL)

Gram ~ My Mother name was Constance Anita Boudreau, when she and Dad got married they made a deal: He would name any boys they had and she would name the girls.
Mom got the screw....I have 6 OLDER brothers and no sisters! So she named ne with her initials C.A.B., Celeste Ann Boudreau....at least it wasn't Constance!!
Gram, I stand corrected! But I think it was rude to cut NY state into two regions. Not to mention adding parts of Canada! (Not that I don't love our neighbors to the north, BUT for them this is the SouthEast) ;^)
Pixie, I'm glad you are ordering lilies because you have so few! (My God, I've never seen a catalogue or nursery with half of what you have. You are amazing!!!)
Dave ~ Im an addict....and I admit it. But you see I have this strip of land that is just sooooo bare and longing for some color. I am going to take your last sentence as a compliment, as you could of said "nuts" instead! LOL
nap~ Is that "Tom Pounce"? It's beautiful! Don't you just love the smell? But a whole vase of them is a bit over-powering, one or two in the house is perfect.
That rose is gorgeous! I like the dahlia too.
Gram ~ Your thyme is really pretty, it is one plant I have never grown....guess im gonna have to try my hand at it!
Pixie, the Oriental is Mona Lisa. It doesn't seem as pretty this year as it was last year, but that's ok with me. It's nice enough, and anyway I bought it for the fragrance.
While I have your attention, do you want some of those lupine seeds?
Gram, I love the T-shirt design! Anita certainly concocted a great slogan!
Nap` No thank you on the lupine seeds, purples grow wild here! Thats why I had to buy the red and now some bright lemon yellow ones, they are unique to me. Lavenders, purples, blues, and even some light pink ones grow wild in the field at the end of my road. But thank you any way.
Al ~ That dahlia's color reminds me of a freshly picked and dipped candy apple! My mouth is watering!!!!
Anita,
Your lilies are beautiful!!
I am just realizing how many varieties there are. I started with 3 kinds, separated them twice, now I want more>
That's so pretty, Al.
You know, I have been afraid of fussing with flowers that require too much attention. I've heard that dahlias need too much special care. I put stuff in the ground and leave it there, or I put it into pots and carry them into the garage over the winter. But digging up tubers and keeping them at the right temperature and hoping they don't rot and where should I put them? In a shoebox or a plastic bag? In the attic or in the basement? Don't plant too early, or too deep, or too shallow. Sideways or straight up? I've read or been told all kinds of things to do and don't do. Raising dahlias seems to be a big responsibility that I never felt worthy of. So I admired from afar.
But all these beautiful photos are so intriguing. They show dahlias to be a very complicated flower, with an extreme amount of depth. And the colors blend into other shades so gently that I am truly amazed by them. They are an addiction I think I'm ready to face.
But I do have a problem with not enough sun. My garden is dinky, and between houses so there's a lot of shade. Well, I guess I'll see what happens. Meanwhile, thanks to you, Al, and Poochella and a few other special "dahlia enablers" for your wonderful photos and encouragement.
nap~ I don't want to discourage you but that lily is not Mona Lisa see here: http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/5396/
Looks more like "Tom Pouce" to me. http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/6042/
I also own both and that looks like my "Tom"
nap, I was going to welcome you to my 'lazy gardener's club'...motto 'put stuff in the ground and leave it there', but they are converting you. I can feel Al luring you away with those luscious dahlia photos. oh, well, another will come along
your first...ever...is beautiful. and your rose looks like it is made of porcelain. it's exquisite.
Al, the color on Akita is wonderful
Hey - weren't you that lady that had that tag wrong on that other plant ;)
What kind of places do you buy plants at LOL
