Hard water, white spots

Wimberley, TX(Zone 8a)

We have very hard water here and it leaves behind white spots on any parts of the plants it may get on. How can I make my water softer? This is for hand watering only. Seems I've heard vinegar helps, but don't know how much. Any advice would be great!

Suffer the same problem here and I don't know the answer. If it is a pretty potted plant, I am try to keep water off the plant. I wonder what vinegar would do to a plant? In the house, I use lemon juice to dissolve mineral deposits from shower heads, faucets, commodes. It seems to work (and smell ) better than vinegar. I do use vinegar in the coffee maker tho... I have been watching this thread and hope you get an answer. pod

I, too, try to keep the water off the plants, but sometimes I HAVE to use the hose to get everything watered. Funny thing is, the grass my husband is so proud of is GREEN, not speckled white! I also try to use rainwater as much as possible, but still, sometimes I have to settle for spots. My red polka plants look a lot like my white polka dot plants!!

Funny! I actually bought green/white polka dot plants. Mine just haven't grown at all. Do you think the grass doesn't show water spots because it is mowed? Maybe we need to mow plants... hummmm. pod
